Hi all,
long time reader/poster but in the WinMo forums.
Have passed to Android but im afraid im getting really frustrated at the moment. I have tried searching but there's way too much material here..
I have a couple of questions that I would really like someone to answer for me:
- I am trying to understand the different JF versions around.. how does this work? is there a post somewhere that explains?
- I am on UK RC9 stock, for the moment not rooted but planning to. if I do, what update should i install after rooting.. as in.. what version is newer than RC9? (RC33 is for US only..)
- my G1 is unlocked and im using a Vodafone SIM card (stock RC9).. will I get OTA updates as well or only if I am on TMobile?
- if I get OTA updates, should I maybe wait for a cupcake OTA before rooting?
Sorry if this sounds over-noobish, I still havent adapted to the android mentality hopefully soon tho.
I have read all the stickys (how to root etc) and I am technical enough to understand telnet etc but i miss the basics apparently.
Any help is HIGHLY appreciated.
Thanks for your help!

There are 3 JF versions. RC33 v1.42, RC9 v1.43 and ADP1.1h v1.43.
Since you state that you are on UK RC9 stock I would use the RC9 version if you decide to root.
Yes you will get OTA updates. Currently RC 9 is the latest for UK (RC33 is for USA).
If you are rooted you will probably be able to upgrade to cupcake/new update before you would get it OTA. There will be no advantage to waiting for a new update to root.
Thanks
Thanks very much for your help mate,
things are becoming much clearer the more I read into it.. but there's tons of it all over the place!

I recently bought an HD7 (Still have my HD2) and had to unlock with Chevron, and then do the Feb update and Nodo. Issue for us Tmobile users is unless it's an unbranded ROM we can't get 4G. Ansar, maybe you have tackled this already. Any help would be appreciated. I could cook from my current ROM if someone knows how to open up the 4G.

With HBOOT 1.13 you can go straight to the http://Revolutionary.io and gain true S-OFF on your phone. Read the documentation carefully and you shouldn't have any trouble at all.
Hi
Firstly welcome to xda
You're in a good position, as your hboot version is able to be s offed without downgrading
You can go straight to revolutionary.io and s off from there.
Here is the link to the video tutorial I used back in the day
http://theunlockr.com/2011/08/02/ho...android-phone-using-the-revolutionary-method/
Make sure you're using the correct files for our device because in the video they use a HTC sensation (same procedure)
S off is better than htcdev because it allows you more permissions to flash things like radios and kernels easily
Good luck, if you have questions them Google is your friend, if Google doesn't know then ask here

When have you received the incs OTA update from Bell? Me and all the people I know, who have got Bell INCS phones, have yet to receive this update from Bell.

The OP didn't received the OTA. He was asking how to root his current ROM.
If you really want the ICS ROM for your Bell IncS, HTC has released the ICS RUU on the HTCDEV.com/devcenter/downloads site. There you will find a NAM/Canadian version that you can use to upgrade.
Thanks tplblake, but I already knew this. It's just that, I have reread the op post, and see that I had misread his post. I was reading "has" while the op had written "hasnt". I gueas that the missing quote in "hasnt", got me confused.

Woah, I came here to find out what was going on with ICS and it looks like this was posted a month ago! :good:
I take it this wouldn't have bell's bloatware also?
It's the Canadian rom without the Bell bloatware. If you need part or all the Bell bloatware, it is available on the playstore.
I updated my Bell IncS to the RUU listed on the HTCdev website and it is great. Superuser also works perfectly to give you root access.

hello maybe is a easy one for someone with more knowledge than me,
can i flash another variant on the phone??
i just bought one from nook and tomorrow will arrive i bought the nook version since its cheaper and i only will use it to read and maybe one or two photos,
but i was wondering if i could flash another rom since the model is also SM-T710 i was hoping i could flash the rom from the united states one to enable more languages
i also have octoplus if needed ,thanks i hope someone can help me
Yes from what I understand the nook is the exact same other than a few pre loaded apps and stuff but essentially the same tablet after stripped from its nook branding. So yes you should be able to flash custom roms for that model.
Thanks for the reply ,I already did it and is working totally fine, thanks and have a nice day
No worries, enjoy
Hey there fellows, I'm new here, thanks for having me! I've got a question and would appreciate if someone could help me! I've bought a Note 8 in the UK with an EE contract and tried to use Samsung Pay but the app doesn't work. After that, I've checked that the phone is from Germany (SM-N950FZKADBT) so I would like to know you if I can flash an UK firmware via Odin without having any problems and keep on using my EE plan. Hope you understand my English! Many thanks!
