Best Rom for 3d Gaming or Gaming period. - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just as the title says im looking for the best rom for gaming on the g1 3d and 2d. i used my g1 as a spare so that i dont kill my daily phone playing games. all opinions and responses are appreciated thank you

SuperD without the RAM hack or Enomther's

From my experience rom does not make that much of a difference, but the kernel does. Whenever I want to play a game, I use this:
-CM based 2.6.34 kernel with BFS
-Cyanogen 5.0.8 test4
-No sound
-All tasks killed before the game starts (by menu-> applications->running processes)
-Overclocked at 691 min/max (Universal overclock, and always plugged in)
I've also heard that HTC 1.5 roms are very good but I am more then happy with with the frame rates I get on RT2. The above set up get 30.2 FPS on neocore. I need to try some froyo gaming to see if the official git helps it some (its supposed to help with big applications like browser so I'm assuming it will help with 3D performance too). I've found that you can overclock higher/stable-er when plugged in then on battery alone.

[Q]Plants vs Zombies - ROM

Hi
i have a question im want to play plants vs zombies and other good games on android - Xperia X8 but i didn't figure out which rom is the best i wanted a rom with bravia hack[yes i know its pretty much nothing but i like to have it] and xLoud but cant find good right now im on LinuXperia Escha Arch 3.5 it is pretty good but i have major difficulities trying to play PVZ the thing is it's starts but very randomly[not all the time quite often it just crashes at loading] and when it starts i cant write my nickname in game and without you cant play and why i cant write my name? becuse keyboard just dont shows up so i tried others keyboards and none of them worked
So my question is on which gingerbread rom with bravia hack and xloud[and there need to be dsp manager becuse without it i cant use playerpro] i will be able to play Plants vs Zombies
and Yes im using chainfire 3D with powervr plugin
GingerCruzt maybe? It has both xLoud and Bravia engine. Try it and check does PvZ work.
Sent from my X8 using XDA App
i tried and it doesnt even start to load crash after pop cap logo
on a froyo rom this game works, not on cm7..cm6 have more compatibility with apps
This game crash because we have low RAM.
This can be solved by using Chainfire especially in Android 2.2.
For Android 2.3, you must use a ROM which is very lite and have much free RAM to play it, and the result is not very good and will cause random pop out in the loading or during the game. A temporary solution is restart the phone and play the game with "fresh" condition.
For Android 2.3, the best solution is use a custom kernel which is support SWAP, create a swap file/partition which is minimum 96mb, then you can play the game without any problem.
PvZ also crash before I enable swap on my phone, and now it works even without chainfire
If you don't want swap, you can:
either write your nick in messaging for example, copy it and paste in PvZ, this will allow you to create profile without popping out the keyboard
or use a froyo rom as suggested
ok so my question is which froyo rom is the best is it froyopro?
update
tried froyopro still crashes before loading
Try minicm6, I am using it and it is very fast and smooth for gaming...
i'll tell you mate i tried most of roms on our forum pvz is always going to crash if free ram isnt enough the only way is swap.
well i have a class 2 sdcard so swap isnt going to be usefull i guess so i always restart my phone use a task killer and enjoy the game
u have to face the fact that we've got low ram
cheers
i tried MINICM6 it is really fast i can get by just killing app in GO launcher EX like a ~95 MB of ram but Plants vs Zombies still dont work
OMG why tell me why on minicm7 and nAa kernel STILL dont work there need to be other way for this freaking game
for play this game you need a froyo rom ( for me for games minicm 6 it's better or froyobread 12, i never test froyo pro)
you need chainfire pro, and plugins. you need instal a plugin like powervr.. i see somewhere that you need nvidia plugin but i think that with powervr it works too.
this game only works on a froyo rom and you need chainfire pro and plugins test and you see
i know that you need a chainfire i wrote that but anyway somehow i make game to work it probably has something to do with cyanogenmod performance settings and game started
MINICM7 with nAa i could probably get this game to work with froyo but it's good rom and ginger so im stick to it
I played PVZ with chainfire without plugin, and it should not needed plugin neither.
That was chainfire 1.8?(i forget), and Floyo 2.0
But still, very recommended to unlock bootloader and flash custom kernel.
plants vs zombies on my phone gingerdx
working way 1
install chainfire3d and enable 16bit
( no plugins ) (some lag if more zombies are coming and eat your brain )
or
working way 2
use swap ,
you do not need install chainfire3d (no lags )
you can use keyboard here

GTA

Hey guys, y'know the gta 3 special edition or whatever it's called off the market, has anyone tried it on the hd2? Before I download it.. is it slow, or does it run okay?
Regards,
Sent from my NexusHD2 using xda premium
Hi gta 3 runs good if you follow those settings:
my configuration:
last dorimanx rom high end with zram and swap enabled
kernel dorimanx 6.4
[email protected] 1612 Mhz
gta3 1.3
video settings:
draw distance 31%
resolution 35%
visual effects low
dynamic shadows off
frame limiter off
you have to delete those files from the audio folder to make the game smoother (those are the radio station, slow down the cpu)
HEAD.nfx
CLASS.nfx
KJAH.nfx
RISE.nfx
LIPS.nfx
GAME.nfx
MSX.nfx
FLASH.nfx
CHAT.nfx
I play this game sometimes with no problems,if you have slowdowns try to set a low resolution anddraw distance...Consider the fact that dorimanx rom+ his last kernel is extremely tweaked with cpu @ 1,6Ghz.Before I changed the rom to dorimanx one,I was on thyphoon cyanogenmod and I could get only 5/8 fps
Thanks Axel85 for the info. Now I hope I can enjoy Gta3 on my phone.
Installed it yesterday and it's very very slow, even after removing the radio files.
How do I change the video settings? There's no option ingame within the settings.
Regards
Sent from my HTC HD2 using xda premium
you can find video settings onlysince version 1.3 of the game
Sorry to hijack. The Play Market wont let me install this on my HD2. Isn't there something I need to edit to get the Market to think my device is compatible?

[Q] minicm7 + supercharger game mode

I'm wondering if how i can set my phone to "game mode".
I observed that when I upgraded from 2.1.6 to 2.1.9 then to 2.2.0, there is caching of program. the caching is not done (I think) in 2.1.6 or lower versions. And does supercharger has something to do with this?
I think caching has something to do with processor performance for games, and it makes games somewhat choppy. What I want to do, is when I start a game, all support and background checking/ precaching services for other apps (even for messaging) is disabled so that the game will have most of the resources. It would be even better if i can set this for individual apps so that only cpu/gpou intensive games will do this. Now, is there anyway to do this?
naahh...there is no such settings for now

[Q] Noticeable lag when playing games

I have a nook color running phiremod 7.2
I have noticed a lag while playing games like Angry Birds. Angry bird space is unplayable it lags so much.
Is there a setting I should change? CPU speed? Or do I need to change ROMS?
Thanks
Ryan
I would start by updating to cyanogenmod 7.2 stable. How old is the ROM you are using right now? Sometimes its best to do a data and a cache wipe once and awhile just in case you corrupted your kernel base through updates. You will need to do this if you want to go from CM7 to CM9.
You can do this with the options in ROM manager along with clockworkmod. A nandroid backup first is recommended.
I use the built in overclocking with these cyanogenmod builds, I got mine overclocked to 1200 mhz. Any higher and you start running into problems with stability. I use the "on demand' governor within those options.
I have had no lag whatsoever on my nook playing all of the angrybirds apps. Might want to add a speed script you can find here after you update. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508481
The only time I notice any lag is through the Opera browser I am using when trying to watch HD video on youtube, I just chalk that up to the processor bogging down.
Test the ram if this is an issue, by killing with task manager all that is running, before you start the game.
It's not right to use task manager like this, but at least you could check if this is the trouble maker.
Unleashed from my Revolutionized Desire HD
I checked the ram ant it was not the issue. Iended up installing cm7.2 and everything is working much faster and smoother
Thanks for the help!

Recommendations for low latency custom ROM for S5 for use with midi synth

I have dedicated my S5 to use as a midi synth player, together with a midi keyboard connected to the phone via an OTG adapter, outputting either through the built in audio out or perhaps a separate sound interface.
I have a newer phone (Xiaomi Redmi Note 7) but I'm going to try with the S5 as well, as a I read that of all the Android manufacturers Samsung has the best rep with audio latency.
I've also heard that a big leap was made with Android 9 and 10 on latency, some recent ROMs for the S5 based on android 9 and 10 are rather basic in terms of the features they support. So, I'm looking for recommendations for stock or custom ROM which support low audio latency use.
Thanks for your suggestions.
Hi,
I haven't tried using my s5 for midi, but in general, I would think the latency would depend as much on your kernel, CPU governor & especially I/O scheduler as the firmware.
Obviously, if you have a super-bloated rom there would be more background tasks by default to clog up the processor.
I would go for one of the debloated ones that support custom kernels and have a look around for the right kernel & I/O scheduler.
Another option would be to see if turning on the developer option to kill background processes affects the latency when in the midi app.
Looking forward to hear your results.

Highly recommend using the Tuned kernel if you're not using it. It works on various ROMs like LOS:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...d-los-kernel-s5-performance-battery-t3893954/
You can configure the kernel with the Boeffla app. Just for fun I increased the max CPU speed to ~2.9 GHz and enabled the Tuned performance governor. The phone became hilariously responsive. I tried it out for a few days but it didn't really benefit me. It might benefit you though! Performance settings make it much harder for the phone to idle. In fact if you've ever had music stuttering it's from the phone playing a music codec the hardware can't accelerate while the CPU cores are in an idle state or turned off.
Having some success with this. By setting the CPU min frequency to be maxed out continuously at 2.457Ghz using and setting the Android task scheduler profile to 'deadline' using Kernel Adiutor, and assigning maximum priority to the task in question using 3C Toolbox, I was able to get one app (microphone pro) to go from 48000Hz + 480 frames per buffer, to 48000Hz + 240 frames per buffer. Not quite stable yet, but shows that tweaks are having an effect. Feels like a total latency (from key press to ear) of around 40 ms.
In the end the trouble I am having is finding applications that have latency configuration options with enough granularity to test out whether any system tweaks are making a useful difference. For example Caustic (synth app for android) only has five possible latency settings, the lowest being called 'lowest' (funnily enough), which was actually already stable before I got the tweaks going. Not like audio apps in Windows and Linux where you can choose different latency settings (sample rate, buffer size, etc.) with high granularity. Perhaps there are some apps out there that have this though, although I know Android does have a minimum system latency (20 ms I think I read) which apps can't go beyond currently. 20 ms whilst playing something on keyboard is a bit distracting for some, though probably would be possible to get used to it (latency when playing keyboard becomes unnoticable to me around <7ms personally, and I could probably learn to ignore greater values).
CPU tweaking apps tried so far actually only allow setting the minimum frequency of the CPU, so you can have it maxed out all the time, which is making a difference, but the ideal would be being able to experiment with proper overclocking. OS is LineageOS 16 (comes with it's own custom kernel). Modem and bootloader not sure but they are either those that come with LineageOS or the Marshmallow latest ones installed prior to LineageOS install (not sure if LineageOS installs any or leaves the modem and bootloader previously installed).

System wouldn't boot when I tried that Kernel. Not sure if I did something wrong. I went back to the LineageOS built in kernel and unfortunately it doesn't support Boeffla.
