How can i totally wipe my phone - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have tried everything that i know off but my apps come back to hunt me like a ghosts. I've gone to recovery and wipe everything in th list, reformat my SD card, and repartition it. Everytime I wipe and flash a new rom after a couple of minutes all my old apps get load up on my phone with out me doing nothing. I've been having some problems with my phone and i truly want to wipe it. any help will be appreciated.

As of Eclair, your apps are automatically re-installed when you sign-in after flashing a rom. I'm guessing it's the "Back up my data" option under Settings>Privacy settings that's handling the restore.

so if i don't want all my apps to restore on my next wipe & flash i should turn off both "back up my data" and "Automatic Restore"

I'm not entirely sure if that'll work or not because I really like my apps being restored.
Have you tried uninstalling the apps and forcing a google sync?
Hopefully I can be of some help for you, hit me up on gtalk if you need any more help.

I recall there being on-screen instructions during Google login....
Where it asks to backup your settings on Google don't check it.. then it won't backup or restore settings. (Including installed market apps)

I went ahead and uninstall all my apps, also unchecked "back up My data" and "Automatic Restore" and used Factory data Reset under Privacy Settings. Phone said it needed to reboot... it did.. all my apps loaded again

Nandroid Restore - applications missing/half there

Hi guys,
I wanted to check out android 2.1 flan, so I installed the rom after making a nandroid backup.
It was fun to check out, but in order to load it I had to wipe my phone and my cache.
After restoring my nandroid, all the applications I had installed but wiped with the cache are acting funny. Basically they still show up in manage applications, but they really arent there, and if I try to reinstall them through market it doesnt let me click install OR uninstall as both are greyed out.
Basically, I will have to wait for all my applications to get "updates" before I can use them again.
Is there a way to clean up these ghost programs... without doing a complete wipe (and loosing text messages and other things)?
I didnt think Nandroid did application backups (what you are seeing are in the ext3 partition)
You need Switchrom or BART to do full backups including apps
I may be (and no dount will be) wrong though.

As mentioned above, nandroid *does not* back up your external apps. It will ONLY backup your *INTERNAL* storage.
If you make a clean restore of your nandroid backup and then run the fix_permissions script from recovery, it *might* be able to fix (some/most of) your external apps. Might try that.
If it doesn't work, then it is a tedious business of reinstalling each application individually and then restoring *ITS* home directory. Either that or a total wipe (internal and external).
The problem is that the database file that keeps track of which apps you have installed/removed is out of sync with the apps that you have installed.
I am uncertain how to fix this (I have the same problem myself).
If you perform a factory wipe, you'll lose that database entirely. All your apps will be installed, but your phone will think that none of them are.
UPDATE:
OK...apparently this is a more widespread issue impacting people running the stock/OEM ROMs as well as those of us with rooted phones.
Read up on this thread:
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Android+Market/thread?tid=096ef069db2788e9&hl=en
I followed the suggestion near the bottom of the page and copied over the /data/data/com.andriod.vending/databases/assets.db to a new filename (basically I renamed it).
I then launched the market app and then it would let me install (reinstall) the missing apps.
Then I ran into a problem. I deleted the new assets.db that was created and copied the old one (the one I renamed) back to assets.db.
Then the market app would force close. I noticed the UID of the assets.db file was wrong.
I ran the fix_permissions script from RA's recovery image. This fixed the UID problem, including the assets.db file. But now the market app only shows the apps that I've paid for......none of the others that I have installed.
Not sure what's going on there. It may sort itself out within 24 hours.

App backup and restore issue

Hello.
I wanted to start my N1 from scratch in terms of apps and such, so I did a factory reset, but after signing in with m google account, it started to restore my previous apps. Is there anyway to stop that from downloading the apps again?
Thanks in advance.

When you first sign in, after the push the droid, there should be a few check boxes that say something about backup and restore.
You could also test out if you uninstall the applications before you wipe the phone and leave the download tab in the market (could take a day or so) your account will no longer remember those applications and not try to reinstall any of them.
The method evilkorn describes does not always work, at least not for me.
Here is what I do, which works every time:
1. When you are first given the option to enter your google account, click skip.
2. Leave the syncing and backup options enabled if you wish, they won't affect the auto-restore for this session.
3. Once you get to your homescreen, launch Gmail and enter in your Google account information.
Now you should be good to go without any restored applications.
Settings --> privacy --> uncheck "backup..."

[Q] Restored dictionary, now "Android keyboard has stopped"

Hey im on ICS 4.0.3
I updated my rom from an earlier beta of the same rom after wiping (I didn't need to, it was my choice ). So after a few days i got tired of not have all my abbreviated words and names etc (FB sync is not currently working on this rom) so decided to restore the data from TB.. It said all went well and a reboot is usually required. So reboot. Soon as i reboot i get "Unfortunately Android keyboard has stopped working". Keep getting this every so often.
My attempted solutions
- Used TB to restore data + app
- Clear data from dictionary provider, android keyboard and User dictionary
- Reflash rom without wipe
- Clear cache (from CWM) and Dalvik and fix permissions
- Reflash again
- Use logcat to find the file and delete the problem file (didn't understand it and couldn't find the files )
- Can't even go into settings > language & input every time i try i get "Unfortunately Settings has stopped"
I disabled android keyboard and the pop up stopped appearing (when the other two were disabled the error still appeared).
I have now installed swiftkey X trial and it works but i would very much like the stock android keyboard back. I still cannot access language & input
Thanks for reading and replying
P.S. I have tried searching a few keywords and i haven't found anything. I have not changed language, and as said i have cleared the data from the above system apps.
*BUMP*
One bump then ill accept no-one has an answer..
Generally clearing data from android keyboard and dictionary should have worked..
you can try clearing data of both using titanium backup..
if that also isn't working, I saw that you have written reflash rom and reflash rom without wipe in steps taken.. did you try to reflash rom with wipe?
that should definitely work, right
Have no idea how it worked but clearing the data from TB instead of from the individual apps via manage apps has worked!! I always thought that option would delete the backup but then i looked at it properly and saw the delete button beneath it.
Now ill try restore dictionary one more time as i know how to fix the problem should it arise again.
Btw I didn't want to try with wipe because I couldnt be bothered to back up everything again, I think there are going to be some updates in the next week and just seems too much effort
I am having the same problem

TB = Titanium backup. Root is required as far as I know. And you clear the data by finding the app under the backup/restore tab pressing on keyboard app and the dictionary app and press on wipe data. Let us known if it goes well.

no, the problem still persists,
m using htc hd2 ICS cwm
problem solved
i had to reset\erase factory setting from CWM,
So basically everything was erased from phone
note
when i restored backup from sd card, i started getting back error msg,
advance restoring system also gets problem back,
only restoring Sd ext3 or mounted restore doesnt creates any error on keyboard error.
on my case TB didnt helped

Clearing the cache and data with Titanium backup worked for me. I guess the titanium backup of the user dictionary does not work.

[Q] Googlemail account references within Droid3

Hey all,
I created and added a secondary Googlemail account onto my Droid3 and would like to remove completely my old(first one). Unfortunately my Droid3 doesn't allow that to me, because it says I have to do a factory reset which I don't want. I manually switched within various applications from my old Gmail-Account to my new one through the applications settings menu. I also cleared data of all GoogleApps I found under Settings-->Applications-->Manage Apps-->All. I cleared data of all GApps, YouTube, PlayStore, etc...
I rebooted the phone, but I'm still not able to remove my first old Gmail account. Why? How can I check which applications my old account is assigned to?
any help appreciated

nanbackup

Then you will bein ask to creat gmail accunt or login to existing one, choose the one you prefer...

But I don't want to factory reset my current stock ROM with all my apps and settings on it. I just want to clear and remove this old Gmail account. Do I miss something?

you can't,
you have to re-registration your D3 on google servers
for keeping yours app. download titanium backup apk (free) from the market.
install, than backup ALL (yours) apps,
after wiping and re-registration your D3, download titanium backup (again), and restore your's apps
Sorry unfortunately he's correct. What's nice however is the Play store will download all your apps for you when you first boot your phone after a hard reset. If you do that or Titanium Backup you should be fine.

[Q] Question: Zeus settings

I have have Zeus 6.28 rom. If I will flash to 6.3 rom with cwm and do "'wipe cache" all settings from rom 6.28 (like programs, account settings, contacts and etc) will be deleted or survive? Because I tired every time reinstall all programs and re-enter setting, paswords and etc. Titanium backup or My backup do not do everything.
First things first, before applying any new ROM make a Nandroid backup (the "Backup" option from the recovery), that way, if you do something wrong you can always go back to how it was before applying the new ROM.
Second, if you do ONLY a "wipe cache" then your settings should not be deleted, but only if the upgrade you apply is an upgrade and not a full ROM.
If i remember well, the 6.30 Zeus is a full ROM as in it contains the entire System (apps/settings), so if you have apps/settings that are system apps, they will be overwritten by the 6.30 ROM, but the user apps/settings will be left alone.
If you don't have the habit to use Titanium Backup's "Convert to system app" feature then you should be safe since the system apps are the same in 6.28 and 6.30.
P.S. as I stated at the beginning, if you make a backup you can always go back to that version in case something goes wrong. To go back to a backup version, boot into recovery, wipe the cache and the dalvic cache too (don't know if it's needed, but it's safer), select "Backup & restore", select "Restore" and then select the backup that you want to restore, wait for it to finish, then reboot the phone and you should be at the version you had (with apps/settings) when you made the backup.
P.S.2 When i upgraded to Zeus 6.30 I've lost many apps since i usually convert my mostly used apps to system apps, but the user apps where all left unchanged. The Contacts, SMS and call log were also unharmed.
maybe somebody could write fastest way how prepare system (backup and etc) for fast settings, apks bring back after re-flashing rom, because now it's took for me about ~2 hours for re-installing programs, entering passwords and etc. I do everything with titanium backup or My backup, but maybe I do something wrong.
i have problems with 6.35.. i was from 6.11, did wipe data/factory reset, then installed 6.3, then installed 6.35.. since then my phone is laggy.. do i have to go to 6.33b, then 6.35 to fix the lag on zeus?
=====================
nevermind, for some unknown issue, lag disappeared after few reboots..
