I just flashed the CM6-RC1 on phone yesterday, everything looks nice except for the launcher situation. I am used to using panda home on my regular froyo, and didn't like the ADW launcher that much, so i decided to install panda home. However, it seems like the home screen will keep rebooting every couple seconds when running panda home. But when i switched to ADW the flashing stopped. I tried to keep panda home installed on phone instead on SD, but the flashing still continues. Does anyone have any idea what's going on? I would really like to keep panda home, because it's very cute.
Cute launcher, I wouldn't use that word to describe a launcher lol.
You should post in the Cyan thread just to keep it organized because this is a rom specific question.
Also, email the developer of the application and see what he has to say and give him a logcat of what is going on.
Yeah, you should talk to the developer and see if he can help you. Definitely send him the logcat so he can see any errors.
And don't put any launcher on the SD card if you're using the built in FroYo Apps2SD, or CM6.0. Really not a good idea.
Thank you guys for your great suggestions. I will write the developer first and then ask the question on CM rom thread. Can you teach me how to get the logcat? Sorry, i know this is a very dumb question, but i don't know how to do it.

I've had this happen more than a few times and seemingly at random intervals with both stock and custom (Cyanogen) firmware using normal Home and Open Home. I'll go from an app to Home and the screen will flick to the Home screen but with only the app drawer followed two or three seconds later by what is actually on that screen loading then appearing. I thought it would be a RAM issue that would vanish when I started using the linux swap file on custom firmware but no, I still get it. Once or twice a day I could tolerate but not once or twice every four or more app launches.
I've used Task Killer free to close those programs that forget to close / don't want to close but it still happens. Is it something I'm going to have to live with? I've used the Hero ROM floating around quite a lot and that doesn't suffer from this issue half as much.
Cyan's latest (3.9.7) has advanced launcher which need more ram that's why it's happening. Also, openhome is a resource hog, I don't know why would you be using it anyway. How many widgets are you running? Widgets contribute to the problem greatly. All in all, I have that same problem too.. it's just something we have to live with for the time being... I'm sure Cyan will fix it in his next release or two. n If you're inclined to do so... you can push regular launcher.apk from stable rom... that may sort things out.

It sounds like a combination of 3.9.7, widgets and open home. I run around six widgets, three of those are photo frames. With regards to Open Home... I was young and naive (pre-root) and couldn't stand the dull look of normal Android. Hero has a much nicer look to me. I know it's odd but on a Hero ROM I run around seven widgets although two of those are to toggle WiFi and GPS. Still, at least I've got some idea of what to check now. Thanks for the heads-up!
I searched and did not find anything...sorry if i missed something...
Alright so I am looking at rooting and only thing that worries me is if i have to send the phone in. How can i make it look like I did not root it. Is there any downside to rooting and what can I do with a rooted phone. Thanks everyone
It's really simple to make it go back to stock, just use the Sprint RUU in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=608434
Downside to rooting might be if you don't have a permissions manager installed you could give root access to malicious program. Haven't heard of it happening yet, but it can.
As for what can be done with a rooted phone, the possibilities are endless...
once you root and flash a recovery rom your all set to go...also do a backup in case. there are a couple really good roms out there, i recommend fresh 1.1 and gumbo kernel. there are some really great themes out there as well. as the above poster said the possibilities are endless and in time we will have as many new roms and themes as the gsm users have.
most important, have fun!
Where can I get the ROMs? I can't seem to find them....and with my luck they are in some place obvious.
There is a sticky at the top of these forums which gives a nice link.
To make it easy, it takes you here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=CDMA Hero ROMs
there is a sticky at the top of the forum that has all of the ROMs in a Wiki site. look there
haha just like I thought...It was in plain sight. Well after trying a couple of ROMs i fell with Fresh....but i've noticed that my clock does not display the weather anymore...whats up with that?

Go into menu, weather, update and then give it a min. If it still doesnt refresh, put your phone in stand by and come back.

Nothing. The weather widget has no problems and syncs just fine and shows the correct weather but the clock refuses to. I think everything is set correctly yet it does not want to show.

Did you try soft resetting your phone or even removing the widget and adding it back to the homescreen?
both. Neither worked oddly. I dont know...ill mess with the GPS and wifi settings also and see if that fixes it. that isnt the biggest problem ever. If you have any idea on whats wrong though let me know.
I have rooted my phone and I am an addict. I am here everyday for about an hour. You will have fun with it. I recommend that before once you root it and get your first rom installed play with it for a while but dont get comfortable. I have used all the roms available for the hero except one of them. My advice to you is install one play with it them switch and use them all before you start installing all of your apps and customizing it. I have put three hours into customizing my phone with a rom and then Im like ooh a and install another rom and I have to start over LOL. You will have fun if you like to tinker I guarantee it. Have fun and good luck.
While I am thinking about it....can I make my lock screen any more useful. I find this so plain
sorry for the double post but I wanted this to bump up. Clock will not show the weather anymore...anyone have a fix? also any way to put something on the lock screen?
Where the hell is my Home button. Running Htcclays Superfly 2.2. Can not get my home button to work. ADW settings-System Preferences-Home button binding- various options come up. No matter which I try I can't get it working. I also looked in CyanogenMod settings for an option, none that I could see.
This happened once before, with the same Rom, between flashes, and magically started working after awhile and a few reboots. Tried rebooting a few times, checked various setting, checked/un-checked stuff, nothing. None of settings have any effect.
It is a pain in my ass using the back button.
Anyone know if this is an issue with the launcher or the Rom ?
Have the same problem when using dxtop also, so I'm guessing it's the rom.
Was using dxtop but had issues with home screen reloading.
Help, suggestions ?
Thanks,
I don't know exactly what the problem is. But I can tell you one thing. If one of these devs that work so hard to throw out a nice rom saw you putting dxtop or openhome or anything of the sort on top of there nice rom. They would probably kick you in your jaw. Try doing a nand restore or wipe and reflash. And leave dxtop in the market!!!!! Tell me how it goes...... can you even get into recovery or no?
Hope this helped a bit

I'm not sure what causes is it, but I've experienced it on multiple roms (CM5 and SuperD to name a few). If you wipe and reflash it should be fine.
Yeah, I wiped and re-flashed, got my home button back, but lost my end key-blank screen. Weird. Oh well, I'll live with that. Strictly using ADW, which came with the rom, only tried dxtop since I already paid/had it. Nice to know it's not just me.
This is a killa rom, 44MB internal left (89MB) w/108 apps. Had 234 on it @ 1 time but it really slowed things waiting for all those to just re-load the icons. Just wanted to see how she behaved. Thx Clay.........

The only thing else I can think of is you might be putting to many apps to much data on it. But what you got left seems good to me. Glad to see you got it somewhat working for ya again.

No doubt to many apps, slimmed down and running good.
Oh yeah, luvin it....
I'm running 3.0, preview 4, and I had a question about the long press. On every video online, the long press on the home screen allows you to go into a screen that has apps on the bottom, and a display of all your home pages on top. In addition, there's a while boarder around each home page (that you can see when you scroll). Not only do I not have the thin white line boarder around the pages, but when I long press, it acts like 2.2 where it gives you a menu for widgets, shortcuts, etc.
What do I need to do to get the long press option everyone else has? Is that launcher pro, or am I just simply overlooking a simple setting?
Thanks everyone.
Nobody knows?
It's a feature of whatever launcher is being used...

Does anyone know the launcher everyone is using then with 3.0 on Nooks? I want to guess it's Launcher Pro Plus, but I don't want to buy it until I know that's what I need.
Thanks for the reply btw.

Sounds like you are describing the stock launcher, which I use. I am not sure if it is different with deeper blues build, if that is what you are running. I am running HC on emmc version 2. I thought the two were basically the same, however.

What's weird is I have the same version as this guy:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CEC0fcfbpM
...and yet, I don't have the +apps button on the top right, nor the boxes around each home screen which can be seen when he swipes between them, or the long press widget screen. It almost feels like mine acts more like Froyo with a pretty layer of HC on top. To confirm, mine is Deeper Blue's Preview V04.

Same stock launcher that I have. You may try to reinstall the Rom with a new image.
Do you know good instructions here to download a version of 3.0 that installs internally and that's over clocked but has the launcher shown above? (IE: yours)?
Thanks man.

So, if I read your post correctly, are you saying you now want to go with Honeycomb with an internal build, to the eMMC?
If so, then you need to check out samuelhalff's thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=947071
I have been running that build since it first came out and loving it.
Sam's build will give you the stock launcher you see in the YouTube video you posted earlier. You should have also gotten that with the SD build from deeper-blue, but I have never run that version of HC, so cannot verify with certainty.
If any issues, you can always PM me and I will help you where I can (from a user perspective, not dev).
Good luck!
Quick question. I'm trying to over clock my 3.0 HC system, and in the instructions on Androidtablets.net says I need to find a program called Rom Manager to boot from. Where is this? I can't find it.
EDIT: Ok I'm dumb, it's an app... just trying to get it to install successfully. Thanks for dealing with a noob .
Ok, I'm trying to put clockwork recovery on there (since I didn't understand I needed to do that.. duuuhhrrrrrr). I downloaded the zip file, and put it on my SD card. I booted up Rom Manager, and hit Flash Clockworkmod recover. Then clicked Nook (old). However, it says 'An error occurred when attempting to run privileged commands!'.
Did I miss a step somewhere? Hopefully this is a slightly less embarrassing question . Thanks!
New launcher I been using this morning on my tablet, it uses adw coding so that means adw themes can be used from the market.

Great launcher. It says its not ready for Honeycomb but it runs fine on mine with Tiamat 2.2.1 rom.

Xoom now wont boot after install of VTL
Hi, installed this launcher earlier.. had a play then turned off xoom. Now when I turn it on, it hangs at the flashing m logo. Any ideas? Even to just boot would be nice!

You my sir are going to have to wipe (or restore your backup)! Boot into recovery by rebooting device and 3 seconds after red M shows up hold volume down button until lettering is displayed on top left of screen. Navigate with volume down button until Android Recovery is displayed then hit volume up. Navigate to wipe date/factory reset.
This launcher is for the most part ADW, but its missing the screen switcher under custom shortcuts. It has all other features but that, and thats the one I want.
Also on the far left screen and far right, the screen freezes and won't fully turn to the screen until I scroll back. Rather annoying. Back to ADW. And no swipe up/down to open/hide ANY dock bar.
There are some nice features though and am sure someone will enjoy it.
I tried that but as soon as i go into Android Recovery i get the green android with a triangle (From desire work i know thats not right - not rooted as yet!)
I cant believe that i have to wipe simply after installing an apk! - Not impressed and wife is gonna go ballistic when she finds out that she will lose 2 months of "My Country" work!
I dont think VTL launcher will be on her shopping list! Will start a new thread in Q&A as might as well root now if gonna lose everything! Cheers
I have rebooted many times with it instaled and have no issues... I didnt set it as the default launcher because its not completely readt for honeycomb devices. but other than that it shouldnt have had anything to do with the boot process of the tablet.. im just as confused as you are on that. ... What rom are you running? I have tiamatt 2.2.1 hammerhead..

I used this launcher a few months ago and ran into the same bootloop issue. As strange as it may sound I was able to pull it out of the bootloop by giving it time to boot up and then repeatedly tapping the screen (boot xoom, wait until you feel it should be operational, start tapping screen, uninstall vtl). Worth a shot before wiping, hope it works for you. I dont know what caused it, dont know why tapping fixed it, DO know it hasnt happened again!

Was thinking about trying this...any issues with it? Are you still using it? Comments/thoughts?
I used it for a month or so and really liked it, but it wouldn't work after the 3.2 update, as I recall. Tried for a long time to reach the dev, but it seems he disappeared. The website he/she setup for it was (maybe still is) totally stagnant for a long time. Its a shame, because I really liked the VTL launcher, but I think it is dead (at least for now). Was hopeful when I saw this thread it had been resurrected, but I guess not.
To bad, I was a little leery of trying it after hearing about the boot loop issues. Really want a decent launcher for the Xoom, launcher pro looks to big for me.
