GSM frequency currently in use - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know if there is an app or a way of figuring out what frequency the phone is connected to (like GSM 850 or UMTS1700)?

how can i change diamond‘s UMTS frequencies?

I have a diamond with umts 850/1900,but I need to go to ASIA to work some days later, how can I change the UMTS frequencies to UMTS 2100
It is very unlikely this is possible as the the UMTS frequency is set in the GSM stack as far as I know. So, in less technical terms: it's baked in your hardware, no way to change it. Correct me if I'm wrong
as i know that no matter what vision the diamond is,the hardware is same.so,if i change some chips, maybe can let it work.have someone the experence?
There are a lot of different version of diamonds floating around. I have one which doesn't have 3G

no 3g signal

I hope someone can help me or at least point me in the right direction.
Im in the Philippines and my g1 is unlocked/rooted with the latest cyanogen rom 4.2.6.
The network im connecting to is smart communications with according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_network_code has:
515 03 Smart Gold Smart Communications Inc Operational GSM 900 / 1800; UMTS 850 / 2100
our phones have Modes GSM 850 / GSM 900 / GSM 1800 / GSM 1900
WCDMA 1700 / WCDMA 2100
So i should be getting a 3g signal or something but im not, my phone is not even making an attempt to connect to 3g. I have checked the settings and i cant find where to enable 3g. Use only 2g network is not checked. my apn settings seems to be correct but its not even getting to the point where it tries to connect to 3g. I have no 3g symble or edge symbol. please help..
help someone pls

Change rogers radio frequency to 3G

Hello everyone,
I bought a G1 from Rogers in canada, but now I live in germany.
I don't know how it actually works, but I have been unable to get 3G connections here (only GPRS and normal cell phone), using the O2 company. After doing some research I realized that the radio frequencies are different (according to http://www.gsmarena.com/network-bands.php3?sCountry=GERMANY, then go to canada to check it out).
Are there any possibilities to change the radio frequencies of UMTS? My phone is rooted.
Thanks a lot!
Dial:
*#*#4636#*#*
Then goto phone info
Scrool down list
Change preffered network to WCDMA only for 3G only
Exit
Edit: O2 doesnt use the same 3G freq as Rogers, so you must stay with EDGE.
if memory serves correctly - o2 and tmobile work on the same frequencies in germany
if this is the case there is nothing you can do as the radio frequency is a hardware thing
Thanks for the reply!
I did that, but after a while it changes back to 'WCDMA preferred'.
I went to the O2 store, and the guy tested the chip with a Palm Pre, and it worked fine.. but with my G1 it didn't, only GPRS.
rogers use different frequencies to most other providers worldwide
rogers, atnt and some south african one use one set for 3G but everyone else uses another
you WILL NOT get 3G on the rogers dream on frequencies not used by rogers

will this work with any phone? Sorry NTT. i have just bought a htc touch 3g but it won't work in the bush. the phone supports HSDPA/WCDMA:
900/2100 MHz and out here we have 850/2100 mhz wcdma.

All I know is that it allows you to force a specific phone freq, im not sure if all HTC phones have test mode which that number brings up. It doesnt allow you to change the freq only force one type. So a quad-band phone can be forced to use 2G only instead of 3G.It doesnt give access to unsupported bands cause thats a hardware thing.
I am discussing this very subject here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15461093&posted=1#post15461093 would appreciate any comments or suggestions.

[Q] UMTS 900Mhz

European Diamonds support WCDMA on 2100 and 900.
But is there any way to use only 900?
I'd like to check if I'm 900mhz covered.
In phone options only alone 2100 or both (9&2.1) can be selected.
And if there is a option to turn off GSM 900 and left only 1800?

Make phone work on 2G 900Mhz instead of 2G 850Mhz

Hi. Can anybody help me on how can i achieve this? the problem is in my country 2g 850 has limited range but for some reason my phone uses this band instead of using the more spread 900. Sorry for my english.
