Going from CM6 back to CM5.0.8 my battery life plummeted something awful. The only thing different between the two roms was obviously froyo vs eclair but i didnt have trackball wake on the froyo build. After checking battery usage my screen was chewing most of it. Even at work when i cannot use the phone. Im guessing that my phone is waking up in my pocket.
Is there any way to mod the trackball wake so that its double tap trackball rather than single?

That really should not drain that much battery...
I don't have the answer to your question, except (I'm sure you know): disable Wake.
dude there is trackball wake in cm6 im using it right now! go yo cyanogen settings then to input settings and its right there...if you are havign battery issues task manager and use set cpu and set profiles so your cpu doesnt eat your battery the whole time and dim your screen to 0 percent or leave it on automatic thats what i do...if anything i think my battery has imporved from 5.0.8
Yeah I disabled it today. battery was still ready to die by the time I got home. About 11 hours of battery life with minimal usage. Doesn't seem right to me. Don't remember it being that bad when I was using it before.
Am running today's nightly building of CM6 so will see what happens with this build and track ball wake.
Good luck mang

+1 on this ... especially if you came from a completely different framework, like a Sense rom.

Just a heads up (and this won't make any huge difference, just a small one for future notice), automatic backlight uses the most battery because it is constantly needing to reconfigure the backlight depending on the conditions the phone is seen in. This means that a sensor is constantly active, CPU is processing the change in backlighting, and the screen is (at times) brighter than it needs to be. Setting the backlighting to a pretty low manual setting is sufficient for pretty much any lighting scenario, and will save on battery.
I'm not completely a noob..lol.. and its not a sleep problem as I checked spare parts and deleted the stock messaging app.. ill try calibrateing my battery.. THANKS TO ALL

So i got the G1 rooted running sparmod 1.15 and its just horrible on my battery would you recomend i buy a stronger battery and btw its not oced so idk what it is its like when it on sleep mode or what ever it destroys my battery
Try a stable system image rather than.... sparmod? whatever that is...
even i am facing the same issue. the battery is causing a major concern for me. need to keep it plugged in through out the day.
can anyone suggest what can be done?
What would u prefer?
It depends on a few things, included background processes that load the cpu, whether the antenna is trying to gain a 3g signal when its far from one, gps, and battery health. Use 2g networks and turn off gps. That should at least double your battery life. You can also underclock the cpu with a profile in setcpu. Lower brightness as well. Otherwise, get a new battery. After a while, a battery loses charge and will need to be replaced.

Same thing happen when i used to have my G1. Overnight charge and in literally 30-60 minutes it would die.. Do you leave wifi, Bluetooth, Use wireless networks, etc on?
This happened to me when i got mine. Now I can manage to run it for at mot 16 hours (Yes! 16!) The way is get a good ROM. I use SuperBad 2.1 And use the power controls widget. I use Extended Controls. I have everything off when not using. You gotta learn to manage your phone. And the active widgets too.
I do manage my phone GPS wifi there always off brightness is the lowest possible no updates from email no background data or anything

It could be one bad apk. Check settings/applications/running processes!
Mines was Application protection.
Another thing could be to check the physical condition of your battery. Mine's currently looking like () I'm waiting to hear a fizz pop *smoke* then a small fire. Hopefully it's not in my pocket when it happens. I've already ordered a new battery, hopefully it arrives in time.

3 thinks you can do
1)check for a better rom and\or verify if your gps, wi fi and on while this happens
2)Recalibrate your battery
2A Discharge it until it shuts itself off.
2B) Recharge it back to full and then leave it charging for another few hours even after it says it is full
2C)repeat if needed
3)buy a new one...
Okay im going to check out that 2.1 rom and ill check the battery if that doesnt help ill buy a new one
Hello Everyone,
I am new to the forum, but not totally new to rooting and flashing ROMs. I have a MT3G (second android phone to come to the market...yes I'm old school ), rooted and flashed CM7-Gingerbread 2.3.3 and it's working very well.
I also managed to buy a NookColor, immediately rooted it and flashed phiremod nook v5.1. and everything is very good. My Quadrant Score is 1485
However, what I've noticed is that if I compare the battery usage on mytouch 3g vs the nookcolor I see something interesting and I think it might have to do with the overall battery drain I've noticed on the nook....I'm hoping someone here can shed some light.
When I go to my settings > about tablet > battery use, I can see a graph on the top. If I click it, it shows a nice relationship between time (x-axis), battery % (y-axis) and underneath it are 5 variables (Phone Signal, Wi-fi, Awake, Screen on, Charging). These variables are key because you can see what is really draining a battery.
See the two attached images. One is from mytouch 3g and the other is the nook. What you can see is that when my nook is sleep, it drains a lot faster than MT3G and in fact what you see is that the PHONE SIGNAL is constantly on, where when my MT3G is sleep, the PHONE SIGNAL IS NOT....
Is there a way to completely remove this 'phone signal'...I suspect we can get more battery life out of our nook if we can just remove this!!!
Thanks for reading.
easy to do if you have adb.. otherwise use terminal.
rename the following files in /system/app
Mms.apk
TelephonyProvider.apk
Phone.apk (phone will keep forceclosing.
reboot.
If you are not using adb, just force power off using the power button.
When it comes up, you will have much better battery life.
Yeah, I saw that posted somewhere, and I've done that. So does the phone signal still appear on yours after you renamed it?
I wonder if this procedure is enough.....

Enough to remove Phone from being listed in Spare Parts? Yep. It won't change anything.
CM7 is really bad with the battery. It doesn't sleep properly. The phone or lack of phone has nothing to do with it. It doesn't have a cell radio after all ;-)
Apparently there is a bug and it crashes or something? when it sleeps. I read that the devs just disabled sleep until they can get it fixed. I think that will probably happen after video is all working.
It still easily lasts through the day with a fair bit of use though. I just charge every night instead of every third ;-)

Okay, so it's safe to assume that the devs are working on this for future ROMs/Kernals? I really like my nook even though I just got the wifi-xoom today.
There's already been a 20+ page thread on this, where comparitive testing found no actual diference in battery life by removing those functions. The result is a purely cosmetic change where the power consumed under "cell standby" is shifted to "phone idle" or something else, I forget exactly. Any perceived improvements in battery life are a placebo effect and/or simply the result of the variables in different day-to-day usage.
Removing them also causes Market problems with certain apps not showing up due to "incompatibility" with devices lacking those functions, which I suspect is why they are not removed in the first place.
The NC's "high" power drain on CM7 is because it's not allowed to actually sleep due too a kernal bug which prevents it from reliably waking up. This will get fixed eventually. Right now, "sleep" simply turns off the screen.
hey guys, having troubles with my cappy here. running CyanogenMod RC1 rom. i needed to use my GPS this morning, used it for navigation for about 15 minutes and turned it off. from 7:30 AM this morning when i woke up and unplugged my phone, it's already down to 7% battery left. when i turned off my GPS it was at 56%, that was 9:30ish. so from 9:30 - 12:15ish, it's down from 56% to 7%
that is without any apps running, wallpaper disable, it's been sitting in my pocket sleeping
is there a way i can undervolt it? i know you need a compatible kernel, is there a compatible kernel for CM7 RC1 than i can load so i can UV?
any help appreciated, thanks
Bad battery is one of the known bugs in CM/MIUI. Right now, it's a fact of life every CM/MIUI user deals with.
hm that's a bummer, i'm loving CM7, but now i've got to resort the old fashioned way to find my way back, as my phone is now dead, rofl
gonna have to stop and ask for directions lol
so, is there a kernel i could load that would allow me to undervolt my cappy with CM7?
You know, nothing about CM7 is a batt hog IMO. Only weird thing I can find is that my voice calls use about 27 percent of my battery per hour. I've tried flashing different modems and all, but it could also be that I have a year old battery.
I've been reading on this as well and followed this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=806211
Was a great help doing the jump charge as I was flashing many ROM/kernels. Hope it helps you too.
What's eating up the battery? If its the OS at like 40% I'd do the following
1. Shutoff GPS
2. Wifi sleep policy to when screen turns off
3. Determine which apps are keeping the phone awake(use spare parts)
4. I've been using jk4 modem, as far as I know because the developers don't have the Samsung source code there is a problem with the modem that will keep the phone waking
5. Run the battery down to 20%, plug phone in, power off, because of the source code it'll reboot immediately and you'll have around 46%, let charge to 100% unplug, that always eliminates my wake problem so I repeat the process every time my phone stays awake and let it chrage overnight afterwards and I've been getting between 1 and 2% battery drain/hour

Just manually force close battery eating apps. In manage apps. ( not running apps) cm7 doesn't have the closed sauce needed to improve its batt Life just yet. Only use data or wifi when needed. GPS when needed. Turn off auto sync. Turn off location. Anything that runs constant that you don't need. You can get an app autostarts, people have suggested it working for them.
For kernels there are three awesome ones: escapist, tkglitch or platypus neo10
Please read through their OP before playing with them. good luck

Hi There OB Users,
Just curious about your battery life.
Please post how long your battery can last.
What ROM and apps you using.
Mine can last roughly 20 hours on low usage (3G ON)
With Wifi ON, it's about 10 hours.
I'm using an app called "2X Battery" (can be found on market)
I'm running NOVA 4.5 ROM
Really appreciate it.
NOVA 4.5
Last three days I didn't use that much my phone so I could test how long does it go without charging.
Calling ~3min
WiFi - 5min
Camera - 10 photos
Winamp - 2h
Display was on about 1.5h
Other apps (no games) that don't use internet - 20min
At 5% I had to charge it for next day. So 95% = 2 days 18 hours. It would be 3 days if I didn't look what time is that often.
But for "normal" every day use, it's 1.5 days. I don't use internet because it's slow in my city (and it's optional for my plan). And at this moment I don't have WiFi router at home (I broke antenna).
Hey there.
here: NOVA v4.5
I use my phone a lot, like 2 hours of 3G network (lot of whatsapp, and quick web search). 3G aways ON
1 hour of calling
3 hours of music
The battery life is about 10 hours.
It would be great if i have at least a day, using it like i do.
Maybe undervolting?

I JUST SLEEP and something use my battery %32
so, i delete setcpu and stop all activity of taskiller, but nothing change, battery keep going down :/

Check if you have apps which refreshes between intervals (or even push notifications) and avoid them.. the best solution is to disable Wi-fi and, if you are not a demanding person by others, switch to airplane mode while you sleep!
EDIT: If it doesn't work, just go to recovery and clear dalvik cache

Unfortunately, along with many of the downsides of CyanogenMOD, battery life is an absolute joke. I think you'd be lucky to get over 24h of usage on that ROM. I have no idea why, but it seems that it sucks the life from your phone WAY too quickly.
For those having battery life issues, I'm on Zeus 6.11o and i've increased my battery life by just:
Using a good governor (smartassv2) to control CPU usage when screen off.
Recharging from dead to 100% seems to increase battery life.
And after using playerpro for an hour, surfing the net, using NBA.tv, 3G always on, an hour or so of Kairosoft gaming and i'm currently at 73%.
So life's good under the hood.
wait for ics. im using L7 right now, the battery life is way better than gingerbread.
