this is just a poll to see what rom is being used the most. sorry if i missed anyones. i just put down the ones that look like people still use. if you would like to share which one you use you could also add which version.

Nfinite mostly but I nandroid over to froyo every so often to tweak it. I am ready to give up and wait for something stable though.
Aloysius I think I was lured by the pretty screens and constant updates.
I normally use Damage 2.09.01, but I'm trying froyo for the moment. Extremely fast, and very stable, but it doesn't play wma audio, and you cant delete multiple text threads without deleting every thread...Not deal breakers by any means, and the battery life is waaaaaay better.

This is the first time I have ever been near or used an Android phone. I got my i9000 a few days ago and have started messing about with widgets etc. I have been reading this forum for a few months prior to owning an Android phone as technology interests me. I was following a home screen thread and realized I had to root my Galaxy S to be able to take screenshots. Then I found the One Click Lag Fix app that was on the Android market. The lag was something that was really bothering me and now its running really smooth.
So now I have root what else should I do to my phone?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
A couple apps I use that need root access: mybackup pro and root explorer.
Have fun

Flash roms, overclock cpu, clear app caches. Modify system apps (eg make browser fullscreen).
Anything really.
Clocksync - if cell-network time sync sucks.
MarketAccess - if you can't purchase apps on market
Autokiller or Minfree manager - to keep memory tidy (less necessary on the most recent firmwares)
Screenshot - should be obvious.

Hi everybody,
I gave my nexus one to my wife and started using wildfire. I tried Cyanogen but it is very slow. Cyanogen was my rom on nexus one. I tried wildpuzzle and open fire. Then i came with this rome. It is similar to wildpuzzle but (for me it feels) more stable and snapier.
You can download the rom from their web page. I recommend you to give a chance.

Thanks
And why is this faster? I see the last Screenshot on this Site and there are only 2.000 MFLOPS in Linpack. This is not very much.
It is not overclocked and i think it have the same Problems with GPS like the WildPuzzle and Cyanogen-Mod.
What is better in this Rom as the other ones?

First of all, bogo mips it not a good criteria as it is stated in its name.
Second i feel it is snapier, compared to others beside openfire. It is a subjective opinion and i can not have any proof for that.

But hey, this is my wish. ))
Am I the only one that remembers why this ROM is not featured on XDA? Despite it's excitable release, pushing it as a bugless super ROM, it was later proved (and admitted) to be nothing more than a repack of DanneJo's WildPuzzle. There is nothing this ROM gives that Wildpuzzle does not, with the difference that Wildpuzzle is actively developed.
This is not a dispute of opinions; VillianROM is basically Wildpuzzle.
On an aside, although mega FLOPS are not a steadfast mark of a ROM's quality or speed, they are a good benchmark.

Nobody is pushing. I am not aware of the history or anything. I started using wildfire for one week and tried most of the roms. For me this rom suited best for me. I just wanted to share. Thats all
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
It was originally pushed quite heavily, with a lot of hype. It was promoted as having no flaws and being unaffected by the location bugs. However, this was obviously incorrect.
I just thought it was important to correct your topic; the ROM was pulled from this site, and it shouldn't be raised as a potential new ROM or good recommendation, when it is for many reasons, not. After all, it is pretty much just old Wildpuzzle.

Okey.
How can i change the topic then ?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
You can edit the topic from the first post if I remember correctly, else contact a mod/admin to edit it for you. To be fair though, there is no need to delete the topic; it is just important for people to know that VillianROM should not be considered over Wildpuzzle, being that it is little but (originally) a vastly uncredited repack.
I have a Captivate for my wife for Christmas. She is not electronically deficient, but is not the type that is going to want to keep tweaking and changing ROMs. I do stuff like this all the time, for myself and for her, but just do not have the time to learn it all on this particular platform. I am hoping just to get a push in the right direction, not necessarily newb handholding.
So, are there any good recommendations for a "one-time good-enough tons-better-than-stock" ROM that I can get on this phone and have her be happy with it? Thanks!
Tough one
Cognition had some stable 2.1 roms that are nice.
also has 2.2 roms
Axura is great 2.2 but you will have to use google voice for voice mail notifications to work.

I'd wait till' they officialy release froyo for cappy and people start making roms with it. At least it's what I'm gonna do since most 2.2 roms have problems.

Thanks. Cognition looked like the best option. I looked through that and Perception, and it seemed like they were both good...but there seems like there is always some underlying little issue. Stuff like having to work around getting voicemail, or a wired headset not working like it should.
I think I will just run with the latest Cognition, and if she finds something squirrely it can go back to stock until 2.2 is released. Any recommendations for working with Cognition?

Voodoo changes the filing system on the phone from rfs.to ext 4. The utility you use to flash themes, clockwork recovery does not always play nice with ext 4. It is safest to disable the lagfix to apply changes like themes then once applied turn it back on

Well this guy is really good at making a rom. im downloading his 1.3 version (should be equal too, if not better), but the 1.2, FREAKING AWESOME! Its my go to rom when i have issues with other roms. Definitely easy to use. only problem was one app was funky, but its the apps fault, others complained about it (on the games website). has the muli touch keyboard and has some great lagfix options. can even overclock IF you really need too. Well hope this helped, if not, best of luck and Merry Christmas!
Bumping up my own ancient thread. My wife has been happily running her Captivate with Cognition for over a year and a half now. It is starting to get a bit long-in-the-tooth and glitchy. With all of the changes over this time, I certainly would like to update it. For daily, average use it looks like CM9 is a safe bet. Are there any JB roms that are worth it and stable? Is there much to be gained from JB over ICS?
Also, I have never had to restore before. I have done some searching and some googling, but nothing seems too clear to me. What all do I need to do to save everything (contacts, calls, messages, applications, app data, pictures, etc.) so that it can be seamlessly transitioned to a new ROM?

In my opinion CM10 is a great improvement! The current installs all seem to factory reset, so you loose all your apps.
If you stick with CM9 you can flash right over top of what's there. Of course wiping the dalvik and flashing gapps too.

agreed 100%. FYI in the interest of not misleading the OP by accident, you should edit that to say stock 2.1 (i.e. "eclair"). I know it's built from 2.31.xxxx, just sayin. Also, the "best" sense ROM - although I never really run them - was NFX hero, just my 2 pennies.
I was going to try nfx when the hero was mine but never got around to trying it out. I think I'll give it a test run for my son and see how he likes it. Quick ?, I was going to flash aospcmod, do you have any thoughts on it, is it stable enough for a daily driver for a 12 yr old. Well, aospCMod (gingerbread) has been my daily for months. So yeah it's stable, and FAST, but it does have some minor glitches, really minor. Like some people have GPS reboots, but I would guess a 12yr old isn't in need of a nav app. Also randomly the screen will dim and become unresponsive (very rarely) and a reboot fixes it. There might be couple other things, but they're minor enough that I don't remember them. If you're looking for a no-bugs daily, aospmod (froyo) is solid, and again FAST, as is CM6.1 final. Good luck.
Thanks duce, I think I'll give aospmod a run. I really appreciate your help.

Just so you know, and I'm sure you do, those ROMs are not sense based, they AOSP and CM based. They are killer ROMs though.
Yeah, I've ran aosp before. I don't much care for sense myself, was just looking for my son but I think he will enjoy this Rom. I run vaelpak on my evo, its sense but has all aosp mods available for download through his settings app. I also never run the sense launcher either, I've always preferred adw ex myself and that's what I run as my daily. The only thing he may need that from the looks of it is Sprint vvm, I think I can figure out how to set his voicemail up thru Google voice though.

Yes, I'm working very closely with root and joelz until I get on my feet. Trust me. I've learned a great deal during the making of this ROM. It took a whole week of trial and error, but its finally here. Now on to getting those fixes.
I still need feedback on anything you find. I'm using it right now and I actually used this rom to upload this rom. So far it has been pretty stable. Especially after second boot. Although it is still loaded with Sprintware.

Also I'm always up for helping testing this rom its what I've been wanting

I don't like sense3.0 so this Rom will stay just like it is

Same for me. The only problem so far besides the ones already mentioned is YouTube videos won't play. For a first release this is real smooth

Hey Wild, Ive been playing with this since you posted it up. I must say this is a sweet ROM, its so smooth and fast. Keep up the good work, your making great strides here!! The only issues I ran into is that on the initial set up my Email (aol) kept failing. It did however link up after i got out of the setup and turned on WiFi. Most of the Sprint bloat doesnt work, or if it does work requires a monthly subscription(TeleNav). I was having problems with the pandora widget freezing when trying to skip songs, i dont however know it is a bug with the ROM or Pandora? Youtube i can confirm doesnt work, it wont go into landscape mode when instructed to be able to watch the videos (sensor maybe?). Thats all i found besides your mentioned bugs. As i said this ROM is sweet keep up the good work, this will be a good daily someday!
