So I took a look through a few Samsung Vibrant demos and apparently the Vibrant gets its own version of the Sims 3. The one that comes preloaded on the Vibrant is nothing like the one currently on the Android Market and it looks amazing. You can see a demo of the Sims 3 for the Vibrant here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9xUdHUMCIQ
Now would there be a way we can get it onto our phones? I've tried just pulling the apk from the Vibrant dump, courtesy of Wes, but after I install it and open it I get a message saying "There is a problem parsing the package". I don't really understand it all, but I'm guessing we can't actually play the game because our device isn't the Vibrant. So how hard would it be to try and get it to work on our phones?
Im not sure either i did the same exact thing. Try Signing it or pushing it though adb XD idk it probly has something to do inside the apk maybe the screen size plays a roll in this?
pretty sure that things got the humming bird 1g in it and weve only got a 600 mhz. im pretty sure this game wont work on our phones because of the difference in proccesors
edit: it may also be for android 2.2 not 2.1
Fyi The vibrant is running 2.1
sent from my rooted slide running cm6
Please upload the game! I want to try it, if it work on me. I have acer liquid running android 2.2.
i got it to install..i'm using a evo though..but it's unplayable all the environments and background is black..anyway to fix that??
how did you guys find this? i downloaded the dump but didn't find anything other than the launcher.

Only if you had the game source code or the source code for your graphics chip. This sims game is optimized for the galaxy s's very fast gpu so don't expect much help even if you had access to all of that

the evo is just as powerful as the galaxy 2. the reason everything is black is because the textures are missing.
Same thing happens in sims 3 on the PC.
and thats whats so confusing about this because wes said that sims 3 was included, but theres no sims3 apk big enough to be the actual game. so as far as i can tell, the game is NOT in the dump.

Not GPU wise. Look at the statistics of the Galaxy S's Gpu and the Evo's and you will see how much of a wimp the evo is in the gpu department.

In regards to the Evo

Ya that humming bird is no joke. I was watchin theunlockr.com and they were doing a copmairison of the n1 and the galaxy s next to eachother both running the ported quake 2. And the n1 was all choppy and the galaxy was smooth as butter. Needless to say I was thinking of getting an n1 or evo but I'm thinkin of goin with the galaxy now

Actually, that was the Desire vs Vibrant, but close enough lol.
I think the problem is that the game engine, etc. are in the dump but the actual files needed to play (textures, etc.) come on the SD card.
can you send me the file?
I'd like the file as well if at all possible.
I Have it, and all I could say is that it runs really well on the slide.

Do we have video proof or could we possibly have video proof?
Wouldn't the screen resolution be a problem as I'm sure that the vibrant has a 4.something screen and the slide sits at 3 and some change. I would also like this version of The Sims as opposed to the crappy version that has been on the market.
Here's your proof buddy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfOla7wjdjk
How did you get it to install and work? Whatever version i've been finding installed but stayed on a black screen.
I had the same problem at first, the only way I could get it to work is to put the 3 Files in Titanium backup and restoring them from there.

looks promising and dev is offering beta testing for those who donate over $3. I dont have a paypal account, anyone test this yet?
thanks
WOW!
from what i saw that looked great!
i love first person shooters and will sooooo drain a battery if they get games like this on our android os!
Just donated five dollars, I'll post up a quick run down once I get my grubby paws on an apk
I won't risk donating for this one
The guy is the infamous Valdimir Silva - with the worst and sloppiest ports of games like Doom and Quake. I seriously doubt this one will be an exception, but we'll see. Please give us feedback if you get the app. I hope he actually sends you an apk and doesn't take donations for some vaporware or a doom WAD for Quake 2, which I remember exists. I bet his next "port" will be CS 1.6 - there's a doom WAD for De dust too

let us know how it is
i want quake3 arena so i can play some instaunlagged on my phone
Force closing after one one run, however, during that one run, it's pretty smooth.
where do i get the pak0.pak? i'm having trouble downloaing in my area and it tells me to get the pak0.pak and move it over using cpu?
Unreal Tournament being ported to Linux is almost impossible because it uses the Unreal Game Engine, which is created by Epic Games and is NOT open source... I mean, you could get the code off some shady torrent site, but there's no possible legal way of porting Unreal Engine to anything other than Windows, Mac OS X, PSP, PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox 360, Gamecube, Wii, etc...
The Quake engine's source code was released, so it is possible to run Quake now on a PSP, iPhone, ANDROID, etc.
P.S.
If there was an HTC Android phone with a full keyboard, a VERY FAST CPU, a high-res display, 512 MB RAM and some really good GPU, we'd be running Quake 3 and going to WLAN parties by now
Back to evaluating the game.
Pretty choppy on my phone. Not surprised, though.

what ROM are you on? and what phone? i'm on the HTC dream xROM 1.5r4 with about 40 apps (apps2sd of course) and my sdcard specs are in my sig. things runs smooth as hell with NO sound. WITH sound it runs a bit choppy.
G1 with the latest CM rom. I'll try it with no sound and see if that helps.
Thanks.
How do you enable sound
How do you huys enable sound. I saw there was a setting toggle while you are in game and use the menu of the application - toggle sound and toggle onscreen controls and I toggle the sound but nothing happens. Do you have to restart the game to get sound to work? A pretty damn good port btw - I regret saying bad things about the dev...

UT is probably not the best example for a difficult linux port. "Porting" Unreal Tournament to Linux consists of installing it with the Linux installer provided by Epic themselves.

Well, I was 'till recently.
Seems only to be F/Cing for CM Donut users. I've been using XRom for a while, works perfectly (excellent port, no lag with sound disabled)
Has anyone tried something like N.O.V.A. by gameloft and how was it? Looks good but im not sure if i want to buy it yet. Would really like a fuctioning BT controller first but im impatient lol
Dude, NOVA barely pushes the captivate to its potential. It runs full framerate, all the time, no lags. First-hand experience.
The iPhone 3gs can run it fine and we have a faster processor and twice the GPU and so does the droid.
i play that game. if you ever run into systox in multiplayer, beware!
lol yeah game looks delicious. i say its gonna be like a year b4 android apps start pushin this phone. especially with the overclock potential.
Thx for the feedback guys. Yeah I knew it would run great just wasnt sure if it was the game play was that great. I cant wait to see what games can take full advantage of our gfx. Ive read that its more than twice as fast as the 530 which I believe the 3gs has
All the gameloft games run super silky smooth. Although the games are super optimized for speed. The iPhone4 runs them just the same. I personally like the controls of NOVA better, but I like Sandstorm better as a game.
Under the whatever 3D test thats standard for these phones, it nearly doubles the rest of the phones on the market in FPS. Best part is that it seems to be quite damn efficient at it too!
How do you guys get N.O.V.A.?? I don't see it in the market.

Yeah you have to view the gameloft website on a desktop/laptop. Not from the phone. Although you may have luck browsing the site from dolphin broswer hd, just change the default.mode from android to desktop in settings. Also when you buy the game, you can either buy the snapdragon version or the droid version. I've heard the snapdragon(evo, incredible) versions are crippled in graphics compared to the droid version.

It is a decent game and pretty fun. Controls are intuitive. Only complaint is that the monsters are too easy to kill even on hard.
Guess i need to go ahead and root my phone. They have the compatability for the vibrant listed on their site so its non-sense that they dont have it for the captivate
I'm guessing none of you guys purchased the game in order to try it out, especially considering the Gameloft website doesn't yet have AT&T listed for purchase of the game, much less the Captivate itself.
Why they don't support credit purchases is beyond me.
+1 I cant find them in the market?
As already stated in the thread, see the GameLoft websitegameloft.com/android-games/nova/?adid=101966
I checked the site out, when I go to buy it which carrier should I select? It only lists t-mo, vzw and sprint.
I bought NOVA and Dungeon Hunter from Gameloft, I picked tmobile and I9000 for the phone and gave it my number, and it plays both flawlessly, and looks great.
the thing with gameloft is interesting.
For example, Asphalt5 ...it works awesome on our phones but only up to version 3.1.3...any version after that and it is like is no longer using hardware mode...just not as smooth like running software mode.
I contacted them and they are going to "look" into it.
Good thing is that I got my refund immediately after I uninstall the program from google so thats cool but I do want to pay for the game though.
i have most of the gameloft games on my captivate and so far I'm very impressed they work great so far the games I have been playing a lot are hawx, dugeon hunter and N.O.V.A its crazy how far cell phone gaming has come....ps1 graphics on a cell phone
So I downloaded and installed Modern Combat 2 on my Captivate running Cog 4.1 which allows side loading. I chose T-mobile as my carrier (no att) and selected the Galaxy S i9000. Everything installed perfect and game runs excellent.
Only thing I noticed is no option for gyro in game which I know the game has. I researched it a little more and apparently the i9000 has no gyro, maybe I downloaded wrong game version? I probably should have downloaded the Vibrant version as that phone has a gyro like the Captivate.
Can anyone else running modern combat 2 on their Captivate confirm if they do or do not have the gyro option and what phone version of the game they downloaded?
Thanks!!!!!!
NVM 10char
Maybe this got put in the wrong forum, would I be better served asking this in the Apps forum? I know I can't be the only one with Modern Combat 2 on my Captivate. I just want to know if others playing this have the gyroscope feature working or not and what Galaxy phone version they selected when downloading it (as anyone with game knows selecting Captivate will say not supported due to it being AT&T).
Guess I am the only one playing Modern Combat 2 on the Captivate .
For any who care I got a response back from Gameloft with a new link to download the version for Vibrant. So I uninstalled game, deleted file folder on SD card and reinstalled Vibrant version. Same thing no Gyro support. Appears they just shafted the Galaxy line on that feature or maybe all Android phones in general. Oh well still very fun game, multiplayer is addictive highly recommend it!!

I'm not requesting this or anything; I'm just curious. Would it be possible to make Netflix work on our phone? Or what is it about our phones that makes it not work?
Thanks.
Whoa. Is netflix even on the android yet? Because that would be sweet.
Yeah it is, you can find the apk on XDA, but videos won't play on the Hero...you can browse the instant play queue, but that's it. I am trying a few of the widely talked about edits to spoof it into playing but no go on the Hero yet.
Tried:
ro.product.model=HTC Vision
ro.product.manufacturer=HTC
and
ro.product.model=Nexus S
ro.product.manufacturer=samsung
Neither worked for me...I get to where the video will appear to be loading, then the app kicks back to the main screen.
you would need flash 10 for netflix to dont u or do they have it mobile formated now.
I believe it's mobile formatted...it plays fine on my iPod Touch...

^^^^^DOES NOT WORK^^^^^
im pretty confident it will not work on the hero ever same reason as flash, i know they said they would only be supporting new snapdragon processors due to some sort of DRM compliance
i am also pretty sure that it needs an ARMv7 processor for some sort of hardware acceleration much the same way flash does, so its going to be more than just some build prop edits
best chance of it working
drm.apk from evo
build.prop edit
alot of luck

That's what I've gotten so far. I only used the method in the description, and I posted above.
It just uploaded, so I don't know if it's public yet.
i almost wonder if it has something to do with it not really having a GPU thats all excuses though i honestly thought it was cause by what i posted so this is awesome proof of concept guys keep up the good work
Trying the Optimus' way now. Hopefully it'll work. I'd love to have this on my phone, even though it will overheat the heck out of my battery .
By the way, I'm on AOSPCMOD 4/29, and it worked with AOSP's other ROM for the Optimus V. But then again, they have a working screen on-off animation, and we don't .
That I am pretty sure is because of the gpu esp for how choppy they were when they do work

anyone gets it working let us know..
I bought it, but I have not been able to get it to run yet. Starts downloading data for the game, downloads one of 4 files, and then exits to home screen.
I was really looking forward to playing this, too.
what ROM are you on? please.. for reference.. thanks
Stock Android 2.2.2 T-Mobile 4G
downloaded 4 data files over 3G in under 10-15 minutes. I only played it for about a minute or so.. but this definetly looks like a keeper. Very nice animations. Graphics arent exactly gameloft quality.. but good enough.
Im on 2.2.2 streakdroid 1.3 GPU edition. Will prob go to honeycomb after I complete this game...
probably post back final thoughts after Im done..
Did you do anything special to get it to load the other three? I cleared the data on mine and still only got the first packet downloaded.
try mobile data instead of wifi...(if its not too much data use..)
no loaded tight up and really fast..
I have had any other game data download issues before, that was when I was on honeystreak and wi-fi.
went really fast actually. I think the data files are somewhere on the internet if you search.. hint hint..
I tried both WIFI and Data. Hmmmm.... I can take a hint..... Thank you.
this game is rocking.. im on like level 3..
my only issue so far is some of the aiming and touch, you can change the sensitivity, but I think its due to limited multi-touch screen support on streak.. paid for this one and well worth it..
I can't get it working it just closes after I start the game... WTF?
