Hey guys I just recieved the OFFICIAL HTC HD2 Extended Battery with Kickstand from Taiwan (currently in Australia) and here are a few quick images and first impressions.

Official Name: HTC HD2 Extended Battery w/Cover
Product Designation: BP E400
Compatibility: Only HTC HD2 (of course)
Rated Voltage: 3.7V
Battery Capacity: 2300mAh
Designed by: HTC Corporation in Taoyuan, Taiwan
Manufactured in: China
Now there are plenty of video reviews on the net such as here and here (both Youtube), so I thought I'd focus more on the smaller details and impressions.
[ Packaging ]
I don't know about you, but I found the general shape of the packaging hilarious. I would of expected food inside rather than a battery! I guess its awesome in its own way.
There is nothing else inside, just the cover and the battery.
[ Physical Battery Comparison ]
Left is the extended, right is the standard stock battery. Nothing much to see here..
[ Physical Battery Cover Comparison ]
Once again, left is stock extended, right is stock standard (ignore the decal I put on it, the extended will soon look like that anyway).
[ Underside of Cover ]
Notice how there is a soft central pad just like the standard stock cover, to hold down the battery.
One thing I must mention though, the cover is made of this good-quality plastic. Yes its made of plastic, not like the metal standard one. I was expecting it to be metal as well, but the feel and texture of the cover does not disappoint. It feels sturdy and slightly grainy, like the top and bottom halves of the back of the HD2.
[ Holding with the Larger Cover ]
I've found no noticable discomfort in holding the phone with the bigger cover. In fact it feels quite comfortable as there are now ledges for the fingers to grip on the top and bottom.
[ Phone + Extended Cover ]
Now to the selling point: The Kickstand
The kickstand itself is made of metal, yes metal. There's that horizontal streaked-effect on it, much like the keys on the front. The spring that pops it open feels VERY sturdy, and does not wobble either in the open or closed position. You probably need a small amount of fingernails to get it to open though.
The kickstand only works in landscape (I don't know if it was common sense but I always thought it would work perfectly well in portrait too). Turns out the spring propping up the phone is not strong enough to hold it up in portrait. I guess if you jam something in-between the prop and cover you could hold it up (such as Blutac or something).
[ EXTRA - External Battery Charger ]
(Not included)
Now I use an external battery charger (I rotate between two standard batteries), and I was curious if the new, bigger battery would fit and charge in there..
.. lo and behold it does, and quite a snug fit too. If you have this or something simillar, be on the lookout for which direction the charge port on the battery is orientated. It took me about two jams before I realised I was putting it in the wrong way.
[ Other Comments ]
Overall, a very satisfied customer (I'm still not over the packaging design ). Now there will probably be comparisons between this and the other one by Momax, or something, not sure what its called.
Notice how the other one is rated at 2400mAh, and this stock one at 2300mAh. Remember there was a thread measuring the performance of the stock 1230mAh to a third-party 1600mAh the same size as the stock. The result? Identical if not reduced battery life. I just don't think there really is a 100mAh difference between these two. It doesn't make sense that a third-party could squeeze in a higher capacity yet HTC couldn't, and it just smells like upscale marketing. Regardless, I haven't done the tests so I can't make any judgement on that.
Thats it! Thats all I have really. Not sure if this is out in other countries yet, but I would not shrug off the recommendation of getting an extended battery when the time comes to have a little extra juice for our beloved HD2.
p.s. Did you know it says 'Printed with Soy Ink' on the bottom right corner of the back of the packaging. This just further supports my theory HTC was planning to sell me food instead of a battery .
No I don't work for HTC, nor am I affiliated with any of their company standings. Just another satisfied HTC customer!
Nice review. How much run time are you getting out of this new battery?
I have seen a lot of reviews of this battery and I don't know why I opened this thread as I'm fed up of reading about it. BUT, this was an awesome review of a battery I thought I knew all about, bravo.
since the battery is now bigger and heavier, do you think that it can slip out and make the back battery cover fall off?
and do you think you can take a picture of it next to a ruler or something? I just want to get an idea of how much bigger that cover makes it.
your review is great! thanks!

Hi,
I got my 1340mah battery today and thought about making some pics to compare both batteries and back covers.
First of all, GPS receiving is just as good as with the original cover.
The new back cover isnt glossy anymore. I didn't clean my original back cover to show what the biiiiig plus for the new cover is.

Compared from the front
Here you can see that the new back cover is about 2,5mm thicker than the old one.
And this is what the phone looks like with the new back cover
I am up to some battery conditioning the next days and then hope that I will get 50% more battery life. Would make sense, though.
Let us know how long the battery life is!
Very nice pics. Thanks.
Does any e-store sells only the back 'non-glossy' cover?
Nice shots, thanks
How is the camera thru the deeper back cover?
Are there any cases or other protections devices that fit Diamond with bigger battery?
Have not seen any yet?
Camera Quality is about the same though the camera opening is bigger now. I will post my experiences with the battery life here when I unloaded and reloaded it some times. With 900mah battery and 15-20min phone, some sms and some playing around a day I got about 2,5 days with shutting the phone off at night. I expect about four days lifetime now and I would be very satisfied with this.
Where did you buy the battery and the case?
lets hope they make a ignito version!
yea dude..let us know where ya bought the battery and case!
I am from germany and they are available here now. I got it from cyberport.de for about 32 Euros including shipping.
very nice, is this htc pro original battery or another one?
You can get them from expansys in your country. Look for BP E270.
They really are good. It feels like a lot more than 50% extra power too - it's tough to make it go flat now, lol. For me the biggest plus is to be able to take it out all weekend and it makes the distance. The little bit extra size on the cover is nothing much at the end of the day and you get used to it quickly. Also as pointed out the material feels much better and doesn't leave prints everywhere.
Single best additional purchase I've made for my Diamond and I recommend it to all!

Oh yes it is. This third party batteries are real crap, they double the size of your phone and it's NOT possible to receive any GPS signal with these. Forget that crap.
And yes, this 1340mah is the original HTC battery - no problems with GPS
It's really tough to get the battery dead now, wasnt able to get it to shut off automatically yesterday evening, I got the battery very weak message and left GPS on, half an hour later I decided to go to bed and load it anyways because it didnt shut off from itself.
And about the weight? Is the difference noticeable?
well others say its noticeable... don't know maybe 20 grams?
would the non-gps 1800mah batter fit into this htc cover?
or any other ultra powerfull non-htc batter?
i really like the cover, but it can still be much better, there's still wasted space
I just got an extended 1800mah battery yesterday and as mentioned GPS is not available when using 1800mah battery, the signal seem to be not available with the 1800mah battery.
After I observe and try, i notice that the original 900mah battery can lost the signal too when we take off the back cover (you can see the signal drop in the GPS signal page) but when I put back the back cover the signal seem to be recovered. So conclusion is there must be something stick to the original back cover to enhance the signal reception strength for the GPS data. So I need some expert to help to solve the problem. I just wonder if we can just stick a piece of similar material in the 1800mah back cover and that will make the 1800mah battery function close to perfect (except the size).
Greattttt
Thanks fBx.. Very nice images and greaattt comparison.
I would like to know, do you feel battery life is increased by 50%?
Thanks a lot
While searching for a suitable spare battery for my hd2, I came across the official extended battery from HTC - hadn't seen any feedback from the forums so thought I'd post it here.
Search for it on the HTC accessory store (sorry, I can't post links as a newbie).
2300 mAh [good]
Has a stand [probably good]
Not due till 5th April [bad]
Costs 50 british pounds!!! [bad]
It sure is ugly [really bad]
I dunno if I'm gonna bother waiting - for that price, I can buy about 10 cheapy standard batteries on ebay.
Too expensive for what it is... why don't you simply buy 2 other extra batteries on ebay for 10 USD for one... much more better alternative no ?
well standerd is 1230mAH and i just bought a 1600mAH battery from ebay for £5.99... will see how it goes when it arrives but imo its not worth £50 for the official extended although it does include the back panel (pictures of it are in another thread)
I emailed HTC about the official battery as I need a decent extended battery with 2x capacity rather than a 1600mah or so (although I ordered one of them of ebay the other day!).
They said they still can't confirm when it'll be ready - most sites are expecting it in April just now.
There will be an HD3 before it arrives!!
i bought the extended 2680mah with back extended battery from my vodafone (germany) shop...normally it costs 69,90 euro - we will see if its worth
Photos! And we need a proper review!
dang, thats one expensive battery.

I would rather carry one of those portable AA battery extender/chargers to add more juice if flying coach.... on business, I can charge.... worst case scenario, I can charge off my laptop...
release date april fool
i found a quiet good alternative in the neofree 4400 mAh battery . when i need the extra power i put the usb cable to my hd2 and thats it. the neofree is the reason why i stoped buying extra batteries for my devices. no more nonfitting cover/cases and blown up pockets .
regards mad
This is way bigger than i thought at first...Damn that is HUGE !! I am not as concerned about the form factor of the phone as i am of dropping the phone with that huge extra mass on it...broken screen for sure (i don.t expect to fit in any case - other than a tent )

Thats a shocking price for a battery, though i would certainly be interested in a kick stand battery cover for the standard battery.

That's an interesting alternative that I didn't even think of.
I don't care the size of the extra batterry. It's uglier, yes, but it's more funcional.
+1
I ordered it, waiting April for delivery.
I prefered an ugly back phone that to be constantly wired to something and get stressed by that!
I too find they've done a great job with the extended battery and cover.
Stop dreaming, an extended battery will always be bigger and thus will stick out, no way around that... there's no point in offering an extended battery with 20% more capacity that fits in the normal volume. If you want an extended battery it's to have at least twice the capacity...
But at least they keeped it quite stylish with a suitable metal cover and not some cheapo piece of plastic. The stand is awesome for video/GPS, which are the main reasons you'd use an extended battery for...
On no phone is an extended battery an accessory meant to be nice looking and/or for everyday use. You put it in when you expect you'll need a lot of juice, like travelling...
For everyday use I just keep a second standard battery in my bag, in case I need it, which normally doesn't happen.

I got my HTC 2150mAH battery today from VZW. It's HUGE, but I've been thinking about how to make it more streamlined since I heard about it. Enter my dremel work.
Dremel out the rear of the VZW snap case to match the bulge on the new battery door. Sand it down smooth, and here you have it. It's pretty nice feeling, and it doesn't bulge out too much. It's still bulkier than before, however if you had a protective case already it isn't much of a difference.
Now, my phone looks good and holds a charge longer.

NOTE:
Decided to meet some of the demand and offer my modding to you guys.
I will do this on a per request basis for $45 including the case, and $25 if you mail me the case yourself. This includes shipping the case to you (you pay for shipping to me). If I grab the case myself, I simply run to the VZW store and pick on up, and this saves you on shipping to me.
PM me if you want me to do this. Just give me about 5 days or so turnaround time, as I have full time obligations elsewhere.
where did you order this battery? i want one?
Best looking one I've seen yet. You should buy a bunch of those cases and modify them for sale.
At $20-$30 per case, plus the time to modify them it wouldn't be worth it to both buyer and myself. If anyone wants, send me the money and I can do it on a need basis, but I'm not going to stock these.
nice work man!
I did something very similar with mine!!!! I just cut the back out of the black silicone case so the battery sticks through the back...it looks 10x better now and I will be keeping my 2150 because of it. If people want pics of this let me know.

Could you post up some pictures? The red case looks good but I'm wondering if the black case looks even better since the the phone is already black and it might blend in better.
Could you post pics I have the same case, but I'm iffy about getting the battery.
What happens to the antenna in the modified case?
I was told after checking the original back casing that the antenna is part of the backing. Now that the case has been altered did anyone think to look where the antenna is laying now. You have to look very close at the inside of the back of the case to see that the antenna was embedded and camouflaged. How is the reception?
I noticed that there are cheap Dremels on sale online. Is it ok to use a crappy cordless one for this task, since there really isn't much material to remove?
I don't have my other camera at work so I had to use the camera on the phone using a mirror. I'll try to remember to take a better pictures or pictures sometime. It looks nice though, it doesn't look silly anymore.

Verizon is accepting phone orders of the battery. I recieved mine yesterday it feels great not having to run to a charge 49% battery ( 6:57am last charge to now 11:13pm )
that's 16 hours of moderate use and still no urgency to plug it in lmao
No takers on the Antenna question.
Got the new battery and case backing yesterday. Sure enough the antenna is mounted covertly in the center of the back of the case on the inside as is the standard one. So if the stylish have decided to cut away this area what trick was employed to replace the Antenna? How is the reception? Also, the idea of shaving down the power button is neat. Does it have a height limitation? It should have been done in the original design since it can be bumped when inside of a case which will keep initiating the screen power. Battery drain!!!!
that looks badass!!!!

As you can see it came with an Instructions Manual, the 2100mAH battery, warranty card, case and belt clip holder, and yes, even a PET film-type screen protector, all packaged inside the bag on the left.
Instructions, which were fairly detailed:
The case:
It is made out of TPU, which feels a little cheaper than I would expect for a "premium" case. (My Otterbox Defender's rubber feels MUCH nicer) Despite the "cheap" feeling, it holds together very well and actually doesnt detract from the overall feel too much. All in all, I'd say I like it. It holds the phone securely and there isn't any rattling or loose feeling.
I'm impressed with how rugged it feels.
Putting it together is fairly straight forward although there are some extra steps outside of your normal layered case.
Size comparison to Otterbox Defender:
A view of the battery port and included cable:
Assembled:
Charging Port:
So far, it has charged the phone like it should and when plugged in, charges the phone FIRST, and the external battery SECOND.
The one issue I've encountered, is the phone detects the lower amperage as a charging problem/slow charge:
It also fits well with my .33mm thick tempered glass screen protector.
The physical buttons feel fantastic! They have a great tactile feel which is very rare in a case.
Overall, it's a great case, but I think $49 is the MAX I'd pay for this case.
**NOTE: This case covers the IR emitter.**
Thanks for the review, very helpful. Can you please post a pic of the headphone jack? Will it need an extender to connect the headphones? Thanks
It looks like it depends on the shape and size of the connector. It will need to be thin. Like a Bose or Apple sized connector. I'll get pictures soon!
Also about the charging alert, it seems to charge with similar speed to the stock HTC charger (both are 5v/1amp, so it may detect some voltage fluctuation, giving the alert)

Cool story bro
How's the battery case been so far?
Well i have never been a fan of cases or so, i always normally used my phones naked, because i think im paying the design more than the inner stuff (nobody thinks of it hehehe), but this phone seems to be a bit more delicate than any other so i`ve been searching for cases or bumpers for this beauty and obviously keeping the design and elegance.
i own 3 cases and this, by far, the most that i liked. I´ll give you my opinion and a mini-review, also the link for anyone who is interested on buying it
First, as title says, its an aluminium bumper, but what a quality, its extremely well done and very esthetic.
This is how it comes in, from here you can tell the great quality product

It comes in two parts, and see the cutouts for the speaker grill, usb porting charge, and 3.5mm jack
and now, mounted on the phone, look the details
I picked up this color for a reason, as you can see my phone is the gold one so the bumper red, so i made a waaaaaay cheaper IRON MAN version
PROS:
-well done design made by high quality materials
-inner side has a protective layer to prevent of scratching the phone
-keeps the width phone and the thin edge line
-even i have no tested it yet, i think it will provide a bit of protection to the sides of the phone
CONS:
-to be very aesthetic, does not provide greater protection to the screen or the back, it comes flush
-maybe the headphone jack cut out won't fit all of you, it depends on each one (at least its not a problem to me)
In general, this is and excellent accessory for those how likes to brag the design and at the same time adding a bit of protection, buttons fells very straight, great assembly, nice painting, very sharp lines mimicking design`s phone this "effect" could be achieved even more picking up the same color as your phone, but the red one makes mine the Iron man hehe, but this is not for those how wants to extremely protect your phone
here the link, the price is nice, 10 bucks, free shipping and arrived in about 3 weeks

It is for me, although the sides seems sharp, they are not so, grip is a bit better due to a wider sides, maybe if you hold the phone by placing your pinky finger at the bottom you could feel discomfort only if it's on the headphone jack cutout

Thanks for that, id have to get a protector for the back, obviously for protection and also to make the back a bit less slippy. Thanks.
I can confirm its a great case !

ive had this case but immediately threw it out because i had to bend the left side to get it in and when its all put together its all warped because you have to bend it. and it scratched my phone as well. do not recommend this case at all.
What a pity. Someone recommended this case to me. When I applied this case on my phone. I followed the installation steps listed on their website. So I do not meet your issue.

I had similar experience. Even worse than the scratches, GPS signal is degraded, still functional...but takes longer to get a lock.
