connecting Wing to dial up directly - HTC Wings

The bottom line, I would like to know how to connect via dial-up, my wing, accessing the world-wide web. Please be very specific, don't assume I know anything. Second, I have WinCe 6.1. Third, I am NOT wanting to tether a laptop.
A search of the web, seems to imply that this can be done, but much of the advice is vague at best, with each so-called techie disagreeing with the others. So, my criteria is ARE YOU SUCCESSFULLY CONNECTING through your mobile phone to a dial-up and using the internet. That's simple. If you are theorizing or speculating, you advice won't help me.
If I need to connect only by GSM, please tell me how. If I need a Mobile 6.1 DUN, please tell me where I can download the DUN.
As I said initially, Please reply if you are a successful user of a dial-up through the WING. My model is an 8525.
Thanks for your Help,
Jack

MDA III VPN problems

Hi there!
I have a t-mobile mda III for two months. It had the original latest rom released by t-mobile (TMUK 1.42 1.12 1.13.00). I tried to connect to my university's network with wlan, but i have to connect there by VPN too (Connections->My work network->VPN). It worked really good without any problem. But I downloaded the Helmi's wm5.0 rom and i upgraded it. My phone didn't work, so i downgraded back the official TMUK rom, but since that i can't connect to VPN. Everything else is okwith the pda, but i can't use the internet in the university (that connects to the network, but i can't use it without VPN). I think the upgrade and downgrade deleted or changed something in registry or something, i don't know, so please help me!!!!
Really thanks!
It won't be the registry, as the hard resets during the upgrade/downgrade should zap the registry.
VPN has a million things that can go wrong. Access to the server logs would likely point you in the correct direction. I actually gave up on the ipsec/l2tp implementation and switched to using OpenVPN. Far easier to set up, but probably not much use to you as you are limited to what the uni has.
Really thanks for OpenVPN, but i can't use this. I don't know how to use this exactly. In the uni is PPTP vpn, not IPSec, so could you give me some advice about programs to use it.
THX
Personally, I use a Linux server and this page (and others on the site) has been invaluable:
http://www.jacco2.dds.nl/networking/openswan-pocketpc.html
The built-in client on the PPC supports L2TP/IPsec and PPTP. OpenVPN is completely different and incompatible with either. This page contains info on all of the varieties of VPN:
http://www.natecarlson.com/linux/linux-vpn.php
As you are using PPTP, you should be able to follow guidelines for OpenSWAN, as I believe it supports PPTP. The first link I posted has info for the pocket pc.
These pages should help you out somewhat. I'd recommend setting it up on a desktop first as you will be able to see the client logs. Once you get it working, you may have figured out something specific to your university that you need to set.

Network Sharing Program (easy question for anyone with a Kaiser...)

With many other HTC phones, i know that they have a program called 'Network Sharing' which very easily enables you to use the phone to connect to the internet via bluetooth or usb on a computer. The latest one i've seen would be the Cavalier, which when connected via usb would show as a network connection in Vista, per this program.
I am wondering if the Kaiser has this, I would assume that it does (when bought directly from HTC, as i know AT&T would disable something as user friendly as this).
Anyone who has this phone currently, would you be able to help me with this?
Thanks,
elbweb
P.S. I am picking this phone up tomorrow, so hopefully the answer to this question won't cause any regrets beforehand...
yes
enjoy!

Well this was something I already assumed would be included and happy to hear I was right in my assumption. In regard to AT&T removing such a user friendly option, they did in the original shipped wm5 rom but the update wm5 did include "Internet sharing" just a comment for those that would be worried at&t wouldn't include this.

Tethering Programs

Hi everyone. I hope that someone can help me.
I used to use PDANet for tethering with my 8525 and my laptop; which was awesome. Since upgrading to the Tilt (WM6), I can't tether because PDANet is not compatible with WM6. When I communicated with them I was told that they currently have no plans to offer their program for WM6.
I do not tether enough to pay a hefty $30 per month to tether through AT&T. But every Saturday and Sunday I really need it for my travel.
Does anyone know of a program that is compatible with WM6 that I can use to tether as PDANet allowed without indicating my tethering to AT&T?
Any and all help is greatly and humbly appreciated.
The latest version of WM5 and in WM6 there is a "internet sharing" ability that tethers to both Vista and XP extremely nicely. Call AT&T, they for some reason hid this on the Tilt, but it's there (in the Windows directory if you want to find it with file explorer), but AT&T's PDA group should be able to help you. It's really really easy.
I flashed my Tilt to the HTC ROM and could tether fine. You can do a forum search for detailed instructions on retrieving the Internet Connection Sharing program from the Windows directory as the previous poster had mentioned for the Tilt's ROM. The Tilt is capable of natively tethering, but AT&T made it a bit harder to find the function.

I found the file info on another site. It's called "Internet Sharing" and it's in the Windows directory. I tried to set it up, but am not saavy enough to make it work.
I can't afford to pay AT&T another $70 a month to get my laptop onto the internet when I'm out in the boonies. I used "Modem Link" on my 2125, but can't seem to make anything work on my new "Tilt".
If anyone knows how to make it work, I'd appreciate the help. Since I'm pretty new at this, step by step instructions would sure help.
Thanks,
This will add the link back in for you:

Download the cab file, copy it to your phone, and use file explorer on your phone to run the cab file. From there just go to Programs, Internet Sharing and tether away.
Thanks! I'll give it a try tomorrow.
Thanks!
It works great! Faster than the old dialup I used to have.

Never thought about that. I have MS Pocket Streets and Trips on the PC and laptop. I'll try it when I get a chance.
Are you out of your mind?

MR. scottwilkins ;;;; Are you out of your mind ???????
If any one call AT&T they will tell you that you have to pay for a more expensive PLAN in order to TETHER.
AT&T DON'T WANT YOU TO TETHER if YOU DON'T HAVE a PLAN that LET'S YOU TETHERING, and believe ME it's not going to be $30 for the plan, its going to be $50 and I think up to $80 JUST so you can TETHER.
SO DON'T EXPOSE YOURSELVES to AT&T........
...... They WILL REAP YOU APART.
DON'T be !##!&^$&*[email protected]#$^*&#, If you understood that
NOW, how do I KNOW THIS!!!!!! Because IIIIIIIIIII CALLED.
Of course they are not going to know if you are doing it (using Internet Sharing) (I'm not sure about using Dial UP) unless you start playing from your computer an online game that you CAN'T OBVIOUSLY install in YOUR PPC.
When it was cingular it was OK with THEM, just as long you DIDN'T abuse.
Soooooo.....DOOOOOOOOOOOOON'T CALL THEM.

Macbook Leopard and Bluetooth GPRS

Has anyone managed to browse the net using their Wizard with the Macbook Leopard via their Bluetooth? I know its possible but I am just not managing. Any help/pointers? Thanks in advance.
Figured it out.
No worries I figured it all out...
How?? Can you share?
Followed this guide..
Well I followed this guide I found after a little googling:
http://justinblanton.com/2006/01/mac-os-x-windows-mobile-bluetooth-modem
One has to download certain drivers available here (as the wonderful article above will explain):
http://www.taniwha.org.uk/
The issue I was having was trying to dial *9***1# (which my service provider had given)
Whereas I changed it to *99# (as the article suggested)
and entered username as [email protected]
and password: yourserviceprovider.
And it worked!
All the best to you, let me know if you succeeded.
doesn't that end up making you pay to connect? I want to do the same thing but dial my local ISP (407.896.XXXX, a local dial up number)
another question I have been trying to solve is how to use a 4gig micro SD chip on a Cingular 8125(Wizard)

Well the configuration that I have mentioned is for GPRS for which you are anyway paying according to your mobile service provider's plan. Connecting via bluetooth you only access your mobile GPRS on the Mac, you pay whatever your mobile service charges you for accessing GPRS via mobile phone. As regards the dial up, I guess you would have to buy the Mac USB modem, then you can dial-in to your ISP.

This answer I do not know since I use a 2gig card which at the moment is more than sufficient.
I've got an easier method that doesn't involve needing to mess with the Mac's bluetooth settings very much...IF you have Internet Sharing on your phone
(which seems to be included in most of the roms I see kicking around this place...)
You also don't need to install any scripts or do much other mucking about...
1. Pair your devices through the usual methods
2. launch internet sharing, select "bluetooh PAN" for PC Connection and hit connect
3. go to the mac's bluetooth settings and select your phone, then hit the 'gear' at the bottom of that menu; click 'connect to network.'
Viola! Internet access without much work!
I feel like I may have oversimplified or missed a step, let me know if you have problems!
BTW--this was done using a VERY recent macbook and dferria's WM5 Touch Rom v 5.0 w/AT&T USA. Your results may vary!
Thanks for adding that information, I guess the method I found is for ROMs which don't have the PAN sharing option. Like mine. At least I couldn't find it.

using tytn II as modem in vista

Hi!
I'm having trouble using my tytn II as a modem in windows vista. I had no problems in windows xp but since i installed windows vista and use internet sharing application this is what happens:
I get connected and a new networkadapter (NDIS) is detected
I recieve a local ip-adress of 169.xxx...
This is making me crazy and i've searched the forum without beeing able to find anyone with the same problem...what am i doing wrong??
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
I understand, you use it with USB cable, may be using it with Bluetooth will be better, because in this case Windows will recognize it as a modem.
Please provide some more information about how did you make the configuration.
Did you make it as it was described in the user guide?
Hi!
I did make the configuration exactly as the manual describes it and my device is syncing correctly and everything. It even installs as a network driver when i use the internet sharing application. But it just wont give me an ip-address...
I've had this issue for over a month now and it feels like vista is blocking the service or something, but i just cant figure it out...
PLEASE advise!
I have the same Problem as you !
As a matter of fact, I have an ip but vista says that I'm connected to local network but not to the Internet.
But at the same time I have an illimited data plan that runs perfectly when using Pocket ie...
Still searching for a solution...
But i'm sure it comes from vista...
megaman
No problems!
Hi guys.
Ive used this feature with vista with no problems at all..
Just turned internet sharing on and it connected to the network connection then vista aked me what kind of network it was (Home, Work Place etc) and hey presto it worked.
Mine is a T-Mobile Vario iii btw.
Never really had a problem either though it's much too slow compared to a "real" USB-3G/HDSPA-modem. (I max out at 1.2-1.8 mbit/s but when I use my dedicated modem I easilly reach 4 mbit/s)

Yeah this is killing me! I get the same as you, i get a IP-address but its a local one 169.xxx.xxx.xxx and vista says its a local ip-address...
I've started looking for services that may be stopped and such in Vista, but i still cant get it to work
I also can't get it to work, so if my WiFi goes out and i need internet, i just reboot to XP... Obviously not a solution, it's very annoying. I'd love to figure this out. I think my friend said he got it working, i should get details from him!

Guys, this is not the solution, BUT, until someone finds it, this is a awesome way to get around the problem! Just install the application, start it and tap connect. Now on your computer you'll find a new adhoc network using wifi, connect to it and your ready to go!
