Read the FAQ first please. I'm pretty sure there is a solution for you there!
PS: Weird things can happen on CustomROMs because the result of removing/changing certain components of the f/w is not completely predictable!

I read that a few days ago,
Ive already done a factory reset via vol up + home and I can see the original background but there are all these errors popping up
Sorry the process android process. acore has stopped please try again. force close
there are dozens of them, touchwiz is broken everything...
I cant do anything there are errors coming up.. how do I put a safe update.zip onto my USB??

I cant even mount my USB due to the errors coming up and coming up everytime I force close on the last error
Please help me with some ideas.
I cant go into USB debug mode, I cant mount USB drive. I cant access anything on the phone.. what can I do?

In between all the errors popping up I managed to mount my USB and put SamSet 1.1 update on there, I vol up + home and loaded the update..
It restarted and the notification bar looks diff but all the errors are still coming on..
logsprovider
gallery
twlauncher
media..
I force close them all but they keep coming around..
Going into download mode enables debug mode yeah? If it doesnt I am screwed..
The phone was working beautifully for 2 days, nothing has changed for all this to go stupid I hate when tech goes wrong and you have changed nothing...

The laptop needed a reboot Flashed JG5 via odin and its all happy now
Please be cautious when applying custom ROM's is the lesson here. phew!

[Q] Drivers Problem With Boot-Loop Phone!

On My XP computer i was able to flash mine and my fiancées phone's in the correct way then when i went to do my friend's in the exact same way it KDZ updater crashed near the end so now the phone is stuck in boot loop. All i can get up on it now is DOWNLOAD MODE but every time i try 2 re-flash it the computer loses connection with it. I've tried every possible way available here and over at Modaco but haven't had any joy. Does anyone have any idea what could possibly be wrong?
I haven't a clue how i got it working but think it was somewhere along the line's of taking everything out of the phone and plugging the USB in so it turned on itself. Instead of the phone booting up it came up showing a pic of the phone to show to put the back cover back on and was able to get the drivers to work then. Hopefully this will help[ other ppl!
try to set it in download mode and reflash
Hey thanks for the reply but i had already edited the bottom of the post to say how i got round it so hopefully it would help others. Thx anyway.

help rooted samsung captivate wont fully boot

Hi,
I want to say that everyone is very helpful in this forum and you all rock. I'm having some problems with my rooted samsung captivate. I installed the I9000 Full rom, and it was running fine for a few days then I notice it was very sluggish, so I did a factory restore, but data and apps didn't delete. So I then when in to recovery (R2) and deleted cache and all user data files, then it did a factory restore, and it went in boot up pass the att and samsung S i9000 screen and when to the lock screen, but once I unlock the phone, its just in the black screen, when I click and hold on to the home button it goes to recent, no recnet application and under Task Manager, I have 0 active applications. It won't load any programs or apps. I tried restoring the phone by holding the down volume key and power on button, it goes to R2 recovery and then reinstall package, but it can't find the package. I have it on the memory card, but I guess I deleted it from the internal memory when I did a factory restore. Am I screw, or can someone guide me through this and fix my fone. Thanks in advance. XDA Rules.
Odin one click back to stock, assuming you can get into download mode. Also do a master clear just to be sure. A fresh start might be just what your Captivate needs.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
The same thing happened to me yesterday. Phone was on, battery fully charged. I got on my flight and left it on (forgot I guess) and when I got off the flight, the screen was black. I'll also add, that over the past 3 days the phone was starting to get extremely sluggish (for no reason that I can think of). But back to the rest of the story...
I couldn't get it to turn on, so I pulled the battery and tried again. This time I got the AT&T logo and the Samsung animation. Once the animation was completed the screen goes black.
The phone is still on. How do I know? If I touch any of the bottom buttons they light up.... and stay lit up until I do a battery pull.
Deleted/cleared everything, same behaviour.
I tried reflashing JI6, it works but fails to reinstall the packages, otherwise same behaviour.
I tried reflashing JF6, same behaviour.
The flashes always succeed, but always end up in failure.
Now for the interesting part. I went into recovery mode on JI6. I try to format the internal /sdcard, I get a message that it cannot mount /sdcard /dev... not found.
So to recap, phone not working, recovery mode available, download mode available. adb doesn't seem to be working, but if someone can tell me how to access the phone with "adb shell" while in recovery mode, I might be able to diagnose why /dev... is not mounting... Or at least how I could fix it using adb.
Any help would be appreciated. I'm traveling and needless to say, this is a huge inconvenience, I'm lucky I had my backup phone to at least be able to get online and be able to make calls.
HI,
thanks for quick response. I can get to the recovery mode, where the android holding the shovel. But when I load Odin one click, it don't seem to detect and do anything. o success 0 failed. I installed the samsung captivate windows 7 drivers, the funny thing is when I plug my brink phone in the usb port, it say unrecongize usb. Any other suggestions. Thanks

the shovel is NOT recovery mode, it is download mode.
have ODIN running BEFORE you get your phone in download mode

[Q] Phone won't display home screen.

So I was looking through the topics in this part of the forum today, and I saw "[Q] What is causing "Communication Failed" error?" (It won't let me post the link to it?) I followed the link in that topic and did what that guy said would help, and after doing that I restarted my phone. It did all of the startup animations correctly, I can still access the recovery menu out of it, but when I get past the startup animations, I'm just greeted with a black screen. The buttons on the bottom of the phone are lit up, but the screen gives no response. I can't turn it off without taking out the battery, and that doesn't help. If possible I'd like to try to fix this without sending my phone in, or without deleting the user data. Any fixes for this?
I would try re-downloading the ROM you want to use and then re-install it. But maybe there's a better fix, that's just what I've done whenever I encounter something strange.

I can't exactly put anything onto my phone with this problem. I can't access the screen at all past the startup animations. It's just black.
Not Bricked!
You have a few options as it seems your phone is "on" and should be recognized by your computer still.
What was it you were doing to the phone before it started doing this behavior.. wasn't quite clear on that....
If it was a mod to change your framework-res.apk. You can find the "stock" one in the ROM you originally downloaded and revert back to stock by doing an ADB Push to your /system/media folder.
Or... you will need to flash your phone back to stock - which means you will need to go here and download Odin and run it.
Always helps to have that "plan b". Bottom line though - your phone isn't bricked and you should be able to restore it and continue on. But... please note that ODIN will wipe your phone and anything you had on it will go bye bye.

I followed the advice on how to fix that problem in the second post in that topic. When I restarted my phone the screen just ended up going black. I'm going to try that Odin thing, I hope it works.
e. It's kinda annoying how I can't post links.
Ok Edit again, I've tried the Odin thing, and it just isn't working. Now whenever I try to put my Simcard back in, It doesn't even do the startup things, it just goes to that Phone Caution symbol PC picture thing. I'm worried that I'd have to go get a replacement.
Can you please provide us with a list of everything you have done to your phone and how you tried to use Odin? That will help us help you. Please be specific, this will get you the help you need. I read the link, did you use ADB or the first method in that thread? Sounds like you messed up while trying to fix your device manager. I am not sure how it is you tried to use Odin, try using a rear usb port, Odin can be a pain, make sure you have the drivers installed.
Ok, Here's a list of what I've done to my phone over the past few days.
1. I rooted it.
2. I kinda sorta half-assed the process of allowing me to put on Non-Market apps onto my phone, I made it so that the settings.db file had the permissions all set up, but I never replaced the first settings.db file. (It's just sitting on my phone's interal SD card.)
3. I tried to do that Non-ADB method listed in that topic I linked to. After that I started having these problems.
4. I accidently ended up clearing the Data cache through the recovery menu thing. Just an accidental moving of the buttons. It didn't seem to effect anything.
5. I booted the phone into recovery mode and tried the Odin thing. It got stuck at File Analysis, and I tried again. It still got stuck, and I let it continue trying it while I was eating dinner. After I got back it was still on that, so I took out the USB cord and phone battery and put the Sim card back in. When I try to boot it up it goes to that PC error phone thing. (I can't exactly get an image of it, I hope you know what I'm talking about.)
And that's all I've done to it. I'd try a different USB port, but I don't have any more. I'd try my other computer, but that's a Linux machine, and Odin is a Windows/DOS executable file. I'm pretty sure the drivers are installed correctly, as I had been doing stuff with the phone via USB just yesterday.
I hope that's enough detail to help figure out something.
I'd hate to doulbe post, but I really really do need the help with this. If any of you have any advice for it all, please, feel free to contribute. If there is no fix for this, and my phone is actually bricked, just let me know so I can go get a replacement.
Did you make sure you had odin started up BEFORE you put your phone in download mode? Odin is very touchy and you have to do things exactly right or it won't work.
Yes, I've made sure to follow all of the steps right to the last peroid. I'm probably just going to have to go get a replacement anyway.

USB/Charger reboot the phone, download mode lost, vibrant rom on i9000

OK guys I really badly need some help. My phone is in a non-workable state and I am starting to run out of options.
I did some mistakes but I will try to take out the details to list mostly the fact, hoping someone will take the time to give me directions.
- I have a galaxy s I9000 (switzerland/orange)
- I had upgraded to 2.2 via Kies.
- I got tired of the phone becoming increasingly slow. I found out about voodoo lag fix. I read 3000 forum posts, documentation and stuff, and when everything seemd easy enough, I installed voodoo via Odin.
- Here problems started. After installing voodoo, the phone booted, but the robot voice said "convert data partition. Not enough space on partition". Then again. And again. It was stuck in a boot loop. This problem doesn't seem to be documented anywhere i could find. The only instructions I could find on how to disable voodoo were to create some files on the disk, not very helpful when you can't boot the phone.
- I found a couple of threads with people who had the same message, and the advice their were given was to flash another rom.
- So I went to samfirmware.com and downloaded 2.2.1 for I9000 (JS8). I installed it through Odin. The phone booted, showed me the Galaxy S screen, then went black. Then it would vibrate every 20 seconds or so. Once, then 3 times in a row. I waited 30 minutes because in some places it said that may take long, but the situation didn't change. I rebooted, tried again after taking about the battery, wiped data, reset factory settings etc. The phone state wouldn't change, and I started to get a little desperate, because this was a stock rom, and if that didn't work...
- I read 3000 more threads, and phone a guy who had been in this situation, and got out of it by first installing "Eugene's JK2 froyo that never bricks" and then after wards reinstalling the stock rom.
- So I installed Eugene's rom. I knew it was trouble that it was a vibrant's rom, but I figured, I had read everywhere that as long as your phone supported download mode you could still always re-flash a new rom, so I decided give it a try.
- And the phone booted. Asked my pin, loaded stock android and all. I was happy at first, but then new trouble came. Now, whenever I plug in the USB, the phone's screen goes black after 4-5 seconds. When I unplug it, phone reboots. No charging battery appears when I plug the turned off phone on the charger.
- And worst of all, the buttons got mixed up. Vol up is vol down now. But more of a problem, 3 button recovery and 3 button download mode don't work anymore. I couldn't find a way to get them back. So I can't flash a new rom with Odin :-/.
- My latest was to install rom manager since I can access the market. I downloaded the tedgy rom. Installed the "clockwork recovery mode" from Rom Manager. It asked me if I had I9000 or vibrant, wasn't sure what it expected since I have now a vibrant rom on an I9000, but I put in I9000. Then I reboot telling rom manager to install Tedgy. I get a recovery mode screen which offers to reboot/reinstall packages/wipe data, then does a couple of operations, and finally gets stuck on :
can't open /cache/update.zip
(bad)
installation aborted
So there I go, with a vibrant rom on my I9000 (rooted, at least), a phone that can boot a half-functionnal android, but with a useless cable plug, an unchargeable battery, and a download mode I couldn't find... And waiting for my wife to get back with her phone so I can charge my battery again...
Any help or lead to help me get another rom installed on this phone again would be *greatly* appreciated. What other ways do I have to access download mode ? Or is there a way to get to it despite my buttons being messed up ? Maybe the rom manager issue can be fixed ?
OK well I got out of it somehow.
In case someone else had this same issue, here's how I got out of it :
1) Install ADB.
2) launch Odin
3) go to adb folder in command line and type "adb reboot download" but no enter just yet.
4) plug the usb cable on the phone.
5) type enter in the adb shell in the small window of opportunity you have before the screen goes blank. This reboots the download mode and allows new flashing via odin.
Any answer for this thread?
Did you fix the problem?
I'm stuck with the same case...

[Q] Possibly Bricked my s5830 HELP PLEASE

I managed to sort it ..Phone all back to factory setting ...now I just have to redo the root and install Link2SD again and I've learned my lesson I won't be going wild with the delete /uninstall features
Hi all,
I have spent over 10 hours messing about with rooting and partitioning SD in order to get an ACE that can hold a few apps ...Unfortunately after all the Iink2SD moving around I got ahead of myself and started deleting/uninstalling stuff I don't use like 'yahoo finance' Memo Email client etc and as i still only had 18mb available and the low memory can't install problem, I decided to delete some more stuff from the system apps using Link2SD and Root explorer lite ,

I have since downloaded new firmware from Samfirmware.com ...2.3.5 gingerbread and have opened Odin
I have connected my phone to the computer and it reads in yellow 1 com16 but I'm totally stuck now, have searched and searched for hours now and cannot find anything that help me ...(the phone still has the little box in the top left after many resets)
I added the firmware to the boot on ODIN but when i hit start i get an ERROR message X an unnamed file was not found ...message ticker reads ..destroyed instant ...killed timeer
