AndroidCentral release Windows Program allowing of sideloadig apps. - HTC Aria Themes and Apps

Like the title says. Jerry Hildenbrand over at AC has made an open source program for windows which allows for the sideloading of apps.
Thought I'd inform the Aria users since AT&T removed this ability from the stock rom.
Incase anyone here hasn't rooted yet, Works with non roted devices aswell.

Would love to hear feedback from anyone who uses this! I'll admit it, I'm too chicken-sh*t to be the first one.

I tried it on my xp computer, it didn't work properly. You have to install v4 .net framework. It did start up cmd window and brought it all the way to where I could install apk's adb style. HTC sync works well for htc phones. I think the Android Cental tool could work for other brands like Samsung, Motorola etc.

I never used it myself. I don't use Windows so I never tested it out. There is also a port for Linux and OS X. I may try it later, tho I've really no need for it honestly.
Sent from my hTC Magic using Tapatalk

It worked for me on my non-rooted Aria installed Swype.

htc sync 3.0. something works on my wifes aria, but for the life of me can't get it to work with mine, so i been using that droid explorer.

Works Great
I rooted my Aria but didn't figure out the sideloading. Then came across this little "wonder machine". Its great for those who dont want to get to complicated; i.e. SDK tools

just use droidexplorer.

Im a complete Noob to Rooting and Sideloading and i've gotta say this little program made things very easy. i did just like another post and loaded swype....sweet....

Great app bit of a pain to figure out but by after getting it going it is very easy to use!
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App

Installing Wonder Machine on xp
1. Install the latest version of HTC Sync, do not run it but install it for the drivers (htc.com/us/support/aria-att/downloads/)
2. Restart
3. Update Adobe AIR
4. Install .Net framework 4 (microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9cfb2d51-5ff4-4491-b0e5-b386f32c0992&displaylang=en)
Restart
5.Open and unpack ASW
6. Install to C drive (I ran this on a XP emulator and my desktop was a shared folder not sure if this is needed for all)
7. Place file to be installed in the same folder as the Wonder Machine app.
8. Set phone to charge only and turn on debugging mode
9. in ASW select file to be installed
10. Click go
Takes about 30 seconds to install and all is good works rooted or not

Noob To droid with new Aria, Am I correct in reading with this program I can install swype and swype will work without being rooted?
If so what version of swype do I need? and if not to big a pain where can I get it?
Ok with a little more reading figured out where to get swype sorry about my laziness,

sideloading
adb install <anything_you_want>.apk
no windoze app needed

The whole constant chatter about sideloading itself is too complicated... I mean, isn't it just a boolean value in a sqlite3 flat-file database that you flip?
no big deal

AdbTool: The Automated Life

Ok so this started out as a small project to make my day to day phone functions easier and quicker but I thought I might share it incase anyone thought my AdbTool was helpful or just nice to have.
Functions so far:
1. Check for device
2. Push or Pull a File
3. Install .apk
4. Reboot
5. Root your Droid X
6. Change bootanimation
7. Push framework (specifically for framework)
8. issue whatever adb command you need to with out the extra typing
9. Set project
10. Error log
11. Clean up folder
There are more functions to come in the future so let me know if you like this script and what you wanna see added. There is no install just unzip and open the .bat file.
This sounds great! Though I'm on Linux machine, so I don't think ill be able to use it :/

No sorry, I should have specified. It is a Windows script... Just wait though, because Sunday I will be getting a desktop that is already running linux. If you really want I will take the time to make a script to run for linux?

This looks like a really useful program! I might do some work this weekend on it and see if I can get it working for the DROID 2 and port it over to UNIX machines.
If I set it up for unix I will add an SBF option too.
Woa just realized this is a really old thread

Yeah, this thread is quite old (almost a year) and I am sure the program/script needs to be updated to work.

Just open the .apk with a file manager on your phone and install it.
It will replace the old Market.
Nice looking market BTW
Update doesn't work on mine...

why need update? the current market is working well on cyanogens 6.1, or no?

Oh, god no. My phone and pushing are not a good combination.
Can't connect my phone using ADB.
When I want to start up my pc and my phone is connected, it just freezes at the Splash screne until I pull my phone out. Then it boots normally.
Yeah that's probably because it's odex'd. I don't really remember on wich one I tried. If I'm not mistaken it was on Clemsyn's Final Froyo Build.
Downloaded it somewhere off Megaupload. Got the link from some video on YouTube.
I've managed to odex the updated market, and use Terminal Emulator to transfer it to my /system partition overwriting my original market, and it seems to work. Granted I had a gapps FC at boot, but restarted without a hitch.
So far no other FCs, and Market is fully working. Though not sure how many apps I still have available. :-/

I did similar, got the file, sent it to the kaiser, odexed it, sent it back to pc.
Edited my androidinstall.tar, replace old market with new one.
Its working so well, that it detected a gmail update and installed it perfectly (no manual input).
the old market gave me errors doing that, had to manual update.
Nice
Great work
could one of you post the odexed new market?

same here on polaris with scoot's Kernel With Separate Cache Partition.
also no dialog to choose between charge only/hard drive/etc when connecting to booted pc via usb.
adb does work though, just make sure the drivers are installed on your pc, connect and wait for >120s before calling "adb wait-for-device". once your prompt reappears you are connected and ready for e.g. "adb shell".
use "adb kill-server" and "adb wait-for-device" when you get disconnected (not exactly stable) - i use WiFi Keyboard and WiFi File Explorer from market instead.

Super One click Root How To guide.

confirmed not working, guide removed till update is available
un root works.
will unroot work if the phone was rooted using the manual method?

I used psneuter for the root method inside s1c (should be default). I heard prior to using s1c that gingerbreak wasn't working on this phone.
Well after breaking the command prompt on my laptop(vista...) I got it on my old desktop. Problem was computer sucked. So if anyone has a crappy computer. When it freezes. On your phone endebug. Wait about twenty seconds. It'll freeze again. Debug it. It'll freeze again. Undebug again. Itll process about half of the information. Then this time it wont freeze but it'll wait for you to debug it again. Then it'll install superuser and test it. So Gingerbreak. Freeze. Undebug. Freeze. Debug. Freeze. Undebug. Ask for root. Debug.
Hey not everyone has good computers now

The original was not a real zip, it's a rar. Rename it to .rar and open it with 7-zip. If not, re-download it. Preferably here: http://shortfuse.org/?page_id=2. Supposedly that one's a bonafied zip.

Yeah, this is the complete set of drivers for this device (nothing omitted). It will go through the process of setting up the drivers one more time, and then never again (it should find everything).
Ok so I used the drivers from that page and when I use S1C it gets to running psnsuter (or gingerbreak both do the same thing) it never gets any further.. I even waited like 15mins.. I have usb debug on and internet connection mode. I tried the manual adv method and when I run the. rage command in adb shell adb restarts but my phone never shows back online doing the adb devices command... I am at a loss.... have used both win 7 and win XP.

Locations offline navigation by HTC

Locations is now available for HTC WP7 devices for offline navigation. You can use Wi-Fi to download maps for many (most) regions around the world. You must connect to a charger to download.
The description is "Find your way with directions or voice guidance. You can download maps to your phone for offline use, or search and browse online maps when you're connected."
Current version is Locations_v2.1.0.0.xap
Rename files to:
Locations_v2.1.0.0.7z.001
Locations_v2.1.0.0.7z.002
ie take .7z from end of filename
.002 is giving me a 404 File not found...can you re-up?

if you have HTC device, or dont know how to handle with attachments, no need to download this, simple go to marketplace, HTC Apps and download from there
or for other devices, use wAppStore for PC or WP7

Extract with WinRAR or similar on PC then deploy. Id suggest you take dxdy's suggestions above instead though.

Yes, extra with a compression program WinRar, Winzip, 7-zip
Then deploy using a .xap deployer such as XAPDeploy
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016766
Connect USB, fire up Zune, then deployer and load xap
Having a free GPS app like the one in Lumia phones, was my only reason to have an unlocked ROM. Now i think i'll keep my actual ROM (XBmod-Yuki). Congrats to HTC for having this app available to all.
As dxdy said if you have HTC device the easiest way is to go to market.

Depends I what you want.
I prefer to have an .xap that I can load if/when I change to a different rom. I don't always want all .xap apps installed right away.
Downloading a file this each time from the marketplace would take considerable time.
That's why I went to the effort of making it available
is many tools to download xap from marketplace to PC....
i also suggest one...
It works, just need to decompress to get the .xap.

why not install xap file with XAPDeployX? XAP install via IE is only for HTC devices with DFT custom ROM....
did your phone unlocked (Chevron or interop)? did you have .net Framework 4 and WP SDK installed on PC?
did your Zune running and synced with phone when try run wAppStore on PC?
P.S.
my advice: use Nokia Drive 2.0 if you can use this app.... is much better than Locations....

Thank you for the detailed reply. I just got the phone a week ago, so I am not familiar with all these apps and ways to install xap files. The phone is not unlocked.
I guess I will have to do a research on the apps that you mention, hoping that they would work (for example Nokia maps is bot available for my Optimus 7 through the marketplace).

Hassle sideloading, please help!

Hello all,
I have been creeping these forums for quite some time, but this will be my first post since I can't seem to get sideloading to work on my Galaxy Gear.
First of all, it was very hard to find the apk file i wanted (fat finger calculator), so I settled with an apk file for a calculator another helpful member developed himself. It was very easy to download, compared to other popular free apps. I don't understand why people can't upload the apks of other apps just liek he did.
I went through the steps to be able to sideload, but immediately hit a snag because my gear didnt have the usb debug option. I managed to find a solution by tapping my version number seven times (?). Everywhere else I didn't see people having this problem, or describing it in how to guides, very strange indeed..
Sideloading apps to the gear is described as "very easy", but as I finally got to the step to sideload the apk file in cmd after the above procedures I get an error that nobody has brought up as a potential problem, nor a fix for it. Hence this post.
I use the command: adb install C:\Users\SP Gaming I\Desktop\samsung\calculator.apk
and I get the error: too many files specified; only takes APK file and verifier file
Sideloading isnt as easy as it is described in countless sources, and there isn't a good, accessible step by step guide. Not that I could find anyway. I dont want to use any third party applications, and would really like to sideload through cmd and adb.
Can someone help me with this last obstacle i ran into? I can't find any information on what I am doing wrong. The app should be able to install with this command, no? I have the drivers and ADB. What am I doing wrong?
I really need a simple calculator on my gear, it would be so nifty in my everyday work/life. Please someone, help me!
-edit lol, before posting this, I wanted to try to install it from a simpler path: c:\calculator.apk
this actually did the trick and I managed to install the app! however, maybe someone will have use for my post since I encountered so mnay snags..
It is not easy....it is EXTREMELY easy. If you are running Null rom just use usb cable tu put the apk on you gear and then with any file manager install. Or I have also used the Google Play store on my PC and sent it directly to my Gear.
Do you have gapps?
Are you running null?

For the uninitiated, you are jumping over a few steps that may seem easy and obvious to you, but not for the first timer. Did you read my thread?
First of all, how would one get a hold of the apk file one would need for the installation process? All links i can find routes me to the google play store. If i press install there, it asks me which device I want it on, and can only find my mobile phones in that drop down list. It doesn't give me a raw .apk file. After some googling there seem to be some plugin for chrome to do it, but I run Firefox and I don't want to install chrome on my machines for various reasons. ALso by looking on the guide to fetch the apk with that plugin, it doesnt seem as easy as using any other plugin, I have to input my device id and things like that. Atleast a few steps only there to get the desired apk file downloaded.
I want to quote you again: "It is not easy....it is EXTREMELY easy. If you are running Null rom just use usb cable tu put the apk on you gear and then with any file manager install. Or I have also used the Google Play store on my PC and sent it directly to my Gear."
Oh lawdy, if it was this easy I would have had my calculator on my gear one hour ago, the moment I started researching if I could get a calculator. "Just use USB cable". On you it sounds like it would find the apk, download it, install it on my gear, all this automatically, only by plugging my gear into my computer with an USB cable. Maybe you missed that I didn't even have the USB debug option under "more info", under settings. Nowhere I read initially, it said that I had to go to dev mode by tapping my version number 7 times in order to get the USB debug option.
Maybe by judging by my first post and the process I had while doing this "extremely" easy thing, you would notice that I am a very novice user when it comes to these things. I am sorry if I upset you by reaching out for help. Get real man.
Easiest method that I have been using is Wonder share on a PC. My computer recognized my Note 3 and installed drivers before this. To get APPS I put on phone using app store, then Export to PC folder, then Install to Gear. with both look up by USB is very fast and easy to get from the phone to the gear you can also load music files and movies this way and put programs on your gear like the Apollo player or mX Video Player I'm able to watch movies and podcast on the gear this way and listen to music that is on the gear.

Can I have my gear recognized as usb drive so I can just drag and drop the files i needed to put into the gear internal memory instead of using adb to push the file?

It's exactly like using your phone. Enable MTP under storage settings.

Ive googled it and I think enabling mtp on gear only works if the gear has custom rom and rooted. Mine still on stock.

I use the command: adb install C:\Users\SP Gaming I\Desktop\samsung\calculator.apk
and I get the error: too many files specified; only takes APK file and verifier file

The reason is that your path has spaces in it. Command line tools treat spaces as delimiters between arguments. In other words, It thinks you want to adb install "C:\Users\SP", "Gaming", and "I\Desktop\samsung\calculator.apk". The fix for this is, like you did, either move it to another directory, or (even easier) simply put quotes around the file name. So, your full command would be
adb install "C:\Users\SP Gaming I\Desktop\samsung\calculator.apk"
As a tip for command line stuff in the future, do this.
cd "C:\Users\SP Gaming I\Desktop\samsung"
adb install calculator.apk
You can also use the Tab key to autocomplete file names when in cmd.exe on Windows, which will auto-add the quotes if they are needed.
As you mentioned in your other post, acquiring APK files in the first place isn't immediately obvious. You can use:
http://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/
and just paste the Google Play link in and download, even without the extension. However, once set up, the Chrome extension is extremely easy to use; just click the button and you're done. If you really really don't want to install Chrome for your untold reasons, you can always set up a virtual machine, or use a program like Sandboxie to make sure it doesn't touch the rest of your system.
It does seem odd that none of the guides say that you had to hit the version number 7 times; that's actually been a part of Android since 4.2. All USB Debugging options are disabled until you do that, on any device.

If you're on stock, then I think that enabling usb debugging under settings->gear info can allow for usb transfer of files.

My gear still won't show as usb on my computer, but installing apks through adb is working I just couldn't get the push file from adb to work.
