I'm getting a tilt this saturday(christmas money) but i have some questions.
1. Is a Kaiser worth the extra money in stead of a tilt? I tried a few comparisons, all i noticed was a little less usable memory and a front camera.
2. I've read about ROM but i don't really get it. i think it is like your operating system on a PC. if i want to take off the at&t rom and have the HTC rom is that an upgrade ?
3. What is flashing? is that like reformating a pc?
Will Someone Help Me Please?
With a new rom you can add more features, sure this can be done by installing applications. But if you see the rom of dutty, its tweaked they make the phone faster, that is all wat we want.
Yeah you can say that the rom is the same as your operating system on your pc.
I have no experience with the AT&T so i can't help you on that point.
^^THANKS^^
If you haven't read the Wiki yet, you will find a lot of info there. This community can be very helpful, but as a point of ettitquite, people are generally more apt to help if you have done some homework first including reading through the Wiki and Searching (use google search here).

Also check out the upgrading section of the Kaiser folder. There are now a whole slew of ROMs and choosing the right one is really a matter of taste. In this respect, it help a lot to first discover all the little things tat annoy you about the ROM you have and there's a good chance it annoyed some else too and they changed it in the form of a ROM customization.
hi all
this is going to sound stupid to many of you, but please, give me the time.
i have had the kaiser for a while now and been a member of modaco. but today was the first time i flashed my T2 to 6.1 using H-SPL. (link from modaco, the one with the modaco splash screen). anywho after seeing who easy it was to flash [ thanks hard spl devs ] i wanted to see what other roms there are.
however after browsing this site i just get confused with lots of releses with similar names, like throttle launcer...
i just dont know which to choose.
anywho i was wondering whether some could point me in the direction of a good 6.1 ROM which resemble the HTC diamond interface as much as possible (preferablly actually 6.1, not 6 with a theme, as 6.1 feel's much faster to me) because the diamond interface is much slicker than my current. also i would like it to have as little Non-stock software as possible.
many thanks, sorry for the stupid questions, it's a new world to me.
sorry for any spelling mistakes, ie the one in the title, i cant change that now.
I think you will either get 5 different replies or mods will close your thread... so, why don't you try each and every ones that you think you will like, and keep the one you like the most...
http://www.throttlelauncher.com/portal/
but it's real slow since kaiser don't have any graphic acceleration at all...
is throttle laucher based one 6.1? and what are your experience with?
oh hang is throttle launcher a CAB or a ROM that website you linked want me to download some cabs?
you say that TL is slow, and i am aware theat the T2 is slow as there are no drivers, i have installed the action class drivers will that help?
also mods plaese dont close/delete this, i'm completely serious, i just want some good advice.

Throttle Launcher is just an application, it's not an OS. However some cooks (such as L26) have integrated the program into their ROM. You should go out and try all the ROMs out there and decide which one best fits your needs.
ok, but can you reccomend some, one of my issues is that i cant find, them all, as they are spread all over forum over many pages,
which do you use?
I personally use my own ROM (RevROM v3.33), however the popular ones are Garmin, ROMeOS, and Dutty's (a bit outdated but still popular).

Definitive Answer... sort of.....
Howdy™
Out of curiosity, what will you be using your T2 for? Multimedia, classic PDA use, IT tool, navigational aide, etc...?
The reason why I ask is because, depending on your answer, there would be several ROMs to consider that carry both the basic functionality, as well as advanced functionality(with the help of additional programs) for each type of use you may want.
So the definitive answer would be, try em all!! Take time to read what each ROM contains or does not contain, as in the case of ROMs marked "Lite" or "No Thrillls". Make sure to read through the threads as well for any potential problem that a particular ROM may be having with a program or any bugs that may be found.

Only thing I would say to that is that you need to do the legwork and hunt down exactly what you are looking for. The forum search is an excellent (as well as the preferred way) of finding those "must have" programs for your T2. Also, check out some of the senior members signatures for links to file sharing sites, as they often host mirrors for popular programs as they become available. This is how I got my T2 to be EXACTLY the way that I wanted it to be.
So there you have it, the definitive answer. I do appologize if this sounds alot like **BEFORE YOU POST START HERE** FAQ, Wiki, Stickies & Tutorials - Suggestions Welcome! , but that was posted for a reason and should be adhered to as everyone here is donating their time and energy, so lets not waste it .

Wow, man, Really what could you have read if you can't find these answers? They are all here. They are all listed in google. Hell I just did a google search for; tilt 6.1 update and came up 1st to this site..... http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=tilt+6.1+update
That said;
1. If I was you, I would just install the ATT rom for your phone. No hassels, and since you have a hard time figuring stuff out on our own there ain't much to worry about. Get it here. http://www.htc.com/us/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=67&cat=all
You want the : AT&T Tilt Update - Version 3.57.502.2
This will run Manilla 2d without any issues that I have seen.
2. Other than that man you are on your own. What applications are must haves is a personal choice. What I must have and what you must have are really two different things.
3. As for flash 7 I just use skyfire. It plays everything. Google it and sign up. Its really just that easy.
4. I might have suggested a rom or two for ya, but you don't even list if your phone is unlocked which leads me to believe that it isn't, at least not by your hands, so I steared clear of the thought
Good Luck. Do alot more reading. Alot, and then read it all again.
thnx for the reply in the link of yours i cant find a cab or download file i have found one today but i need to connect it with my pc which crashed last week so i will do it somewhere today on work
skyfire is only for usa and i live in europe
i don't think its unlocked at least not by me
Recently got myself a HD (in the UK on Orange), works fine, it's as it came out of the box.....
Would I benifit by upgrading the software/ROM on the device, there seems to be alot of info on this site about this subject but im new to this device and rather confused by it all at the moment.
Does upgrading the ROM improve the use of the phone and if so could anyone recommend a version to upgrade too and if possible point me in the direction of info on how to go about upgrading etc.
I know this is probably covered a lot on here, there are lots of threads regarding ROM's etc but they all seem to be people who already know what they are doing??
Any help much appreciated

Ahhh, yes, there is a lot of info here... I can't believe I am doing this, but I am bored stiff at work, so, rather than just sending you off to read up on the wiki, I will try to answer your question, or at least preface my statement that you should go and read up on the wiki
An upgraded version of an official ROM is intended to improve upon the performance (i.e., speed and stability) previous versions and incorporate new technology/features, etc. Sometimes upgraded official ROMs are quite an improvement over earlier version. However, a good cooked ROM (a custom ROM made by a developer on this site, for instance) makes a HUGE difference for Windows Mobile devices. These ROMS generally are mush faster, more stable, more innovative and more user friendly than shipped ROMs. In fact, there usually is no comparison between an official ROM and a good cooked ROM, IMHO.
Beware though, flashing cooked ROMs is also addictive, and you may find yourself flashing a new ROM onto your device way too often (seriously).
In terms of pointing you to where you can upgrade and how to do it, unfortunately, you cannot upgrade to a cooked ROM on the HD yet, as something called "Hard SPL," which allows you to safely (i.e., without ruining your device) flash non-official ROMs onto your device, has not been released yet. You apparently can change official ROMs, but as you are new, I would suggest you wait on that. If you want to take a look anyway, see the last several posts on the stickied "Hard SPL...Placeholder" thread above (this thread will also alert you on the status of Hard SPL).
Until Hard SPL comes out, you can take a look at the Wiki pages (link is in brown bar near top of screen) for previous HTC phones (Diamond, Kaiser, polaris, etc.), as there are quite a few "Upgrading Guides for Beginners" that explain what Hard SPL and all of the other confusing stuff in these posts means. Here is an example for the Diamond: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416211
Anyway, I hope this was at least somewhat helpful and I hope you stay interested and start flashing when Hard SPL and some cooked ROMs become available.
Good luck!
I am so glad someone asked this.

No problem. Although I am sure it is clear from the guide itself, just want to be sure that I state that this guide was prepared by Tnyynt (thanks!), not me.
i`m not sure if i`m breaking any rules by posting this but i`m new on this forum and i have only one problem .. when i`m trying to search for a rom i have ten's of results and onlyt 10 % of them give me what i want .. and sometimes not even thoes... i found a thread in the themes and app section whit known apps working on the touch hd etc ..
could someone make something like this for the roms ..
it`s a nightmare to search for a rom ..
this could be verry helpfull .. just "stick" the thread to the top of the forum and there a moderator or anyone who wants the job could post every existing rom and the link to it ..
no description .. just something like this :
name(dutty`s r4),(miri`s etc) win 6.5 .. build 2****
link (or something close to this)
the reason for wanting this is because whenever i`m trying to search for something i`m spending literaly hours trying to find the rom, app etc ..
thank`s for the answer .. what ever that is
first, let me welcome you to xda! what information are you searching for? your best bet is to read the 1st-10th posts of each ROM thread for details on the the ROM. reading the first few posts of each thread and then posts after the posted ROM release date (usually in the thread title) is the approach i use to get feedback.

Its not a bad idea, but it would also be very time consuming. You have to remember that a benchmark thread already exists which gives some information on each rom already, but not to the extent your seeking. Why not have a go at creating this thread yourself and add to this site. I'm sure a lot of people would appreciate your effort.

Good luck

I am willing to give this a try.
I would first like to hear how it would be best to do it because it could quickly get messy.
So feel free to post your suggestions.
I would then be able to asess if i can really manage it.

I would suggest making a google documents account, and setting up a spreadsheet. Make it open access to all, and arrange with ROMs down the side and details along the top. You could have sections for different authors with their ROMs all in one place. Once you have a bare bones structure, invite people to contribute and publish the address of the spreadsheet.
Good luck, it's a great idea. I would also invite proposals for what column headings you have (eg it would be good to have votes so particularly successful ROMs could be identified.)
I'm also lost in the world of rom's
for a start:
what should be in the spreadsheet?
Name of the rom
Language
Version
On what WM is it based
Date of release
programs installed
Known problems and if they're solved

Will post back on updates
Jay
Hello
ok Here is a barebone first try. Please view and suggest improvements. If you would like access to edit and add roms please post here or Pm me.

There was a page on the Wiki that was kept up to date:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blackstone_cookedroms
This doesn't seem to have been updated for some time.
Surely this is the best solution, a sticky in the forum which links to the Wiki, and that page is kept up to date.
Maybe the Wiki main page should have details and links to the latest ROM version for each ROM out there, and each one has a link to a page which has previous links in there. These ROMs could be grouped by Chef, and give the Chef an oppotunity to write something brief if they wish.
I do agree that is it very annoying that new threads are not started when a new version of a ROM appears as all the comments relate to when the thread was first started.
I would be happy to be in a group of people to keep the Wiki up to date...
Maybe we need to make it easy as well for the Chefs to notify moderators of the Wiki cooked ROMs page they have release a new version.
Jason
I wouldn't mind allowing someone access to editing Wingster and adding a Touch HD section to my website. I need someone who is dedicated and has time to keep it updated though.
Any takers? The website is (www.thewingster.com)

Hmm indeed the wiki seems to be the most logical solution.
Jay
I had just picked up on this thread and was about to comment on the spreadsheet and the fact that I'm sure a Wiki page was updated once upon a time and low and behold, it's been posted!
The fact is whilst many people are fluent with cooked ROM's, there are MANY more that have a number of valid reasons for being sceptical and wanting specific information before trying.
My personal belief is that the Wiki would be the best solution for this as it can be edited by all.
However I think a mandatory standard should be introduced. Something along the lines of:
ROM Name|OS Ver|Win Release|Manila Ver & Build|Features (top 5?)|Known Bugs (Cooker) | Community common issues|
Just something like this to get some sort of understanding.
For instance, in most of the recent ROMs there seems to be an issue with MMS but the cooker doesn't necessarily agree that it's a ROM issue, hence the community common issues section.
I'm working off my own experiences here however. I personally want to know what device it will work on, what the OS and Manila versions are, what the features are but what the tradeoff to known bugs are if I flash this ROM.
One last thing - Whilst I understand that many of the cookers have other things that are ongoing and therefore get to their ROM's as and when they can and again provide support where they can, I have seen very little support for their ROM's as they know there is another around the corner. That to me is the biggest issue for people wishing to jump into the world of cooked ROMS - the ability to know exactly what they are and aren't getting. Standard ROMs provide that and hence the comfort it brings.
Comments & thoughts?

Hello
A mandatory standard is definitly needed for the Wiki.
I guess we now need to form a team/group of people who are willing to invest some time in updating the wiki.
As for what you say on rom support, the rom thread gives you a lot of info it would also add a lot of work on an already ambitious project.
The main goal here is to provide a single place where you can see and find all available roms.

Well count me in - I'm willing to be a part of this. I really feel that for the "average user" there is very little that they can get at quickly and effectively. If you are a power user you can go through the whole "editing of manila files" and the other titbits in the threads but the fact is most people don't expect "normal" functions to be interrupted by new ROMs...they expect enhancements with no reduction in usability. I understand that there is a trade-off, but i think that trade-off should be immediately understood and available for all users to see.
Same here....
I have started tonight compiling some of the ROM details...
I could add a new table into the Cooked ROMs Wiki page with where I am up to and so people can get an idea of the layout I am proposing?
Personally I think there should be a table per WM version, and also per language, although I have concentrated efforts firstly on WWE.
I also would group in the table by Chef, listing their variants next to each other, each on a different line, but light, standard, heavy builds of the same variant that are usually on the same thread should be on one line, I think we can span the lines in the table on the Wiki so it looks right. The main table should only have latest links, and maybe another Wiki page with previous links, that we move when a new one comes out, so a record is kept where possible.
The column where the name of the ROM series is will link to the thread, with the download links having its own column if possible (maybe with light, standard, heavy if applicable)
Mods: Can you advise on posting links to other sites, i.e. with Dutty etc going to HTCPedia. Some of these Chefs generate a lot of interest, dont really want to exclude these...
Thanks
Jason
EDIT::
I have updated the cooked ROMs page, added a new table near the top, only WM6.5 ROMs WWE versions.
Not an extensive list yet, and some missing information as threads dont have some detail:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blackstone_cookedroms
Need to decide on whether the columns are suitable and whether there is more information that would be handy, and/or any other revisions to the layout. If anyone is aware of any of the missing information, that would be great, just go ahead and fill it in...
MODS: Could do with a new thread with a sticky, pointing to the cooked ROM Wiki page once we have sorted it out please.
Chaps,
Now I have put an example table on the cooked roms wiki page, can everyone who is interested take a look and see if we can make this wiki useful...
Thanks
Hello
Nice work! but as you might have noticed there is allready a wm 6.5 section so now we have two.
altough anyone can edit the wiki i was advised by the Mods to first compile the data and then when we have most of the info edit the wiki .
so i suppose we should focus on editing the google spreadsheet i set up.
If anyone wants access please post here.
P.S Jason and Wiggz please PM me a google username so i can add you to the list.
