Copy Protected SD cards? - Off-topic

anyone have experience with them? I want to back up a Navionics maps sd card, but i believe it has some encryption to be put on another card, the data can be copied to another card but I believe the Navionics card itself has some serial embedded in it. Any thoughts?

BlueBrush Not Detecting SD Card

Well I just installed Bluebrush onto my G1 today. Anyways, whenever I start it it says, "You must insert an SD Card before using BlueBrush."
I have my SD card inserted and it has two partitions, Primary FAT32 and Secondary EXT2. This was for moving apps to the SD card. From this you can know it is rooted. I have only moved the app folder but not the data folder, should I also move the data folder?
Anyone else having a problem with this on their rooted G1?

New SD Card

So my 4GB microSD card didn't last, and I knew it wouldn't. What does it take for me to put a new card in? Should I save everything off the SDCard to my computer, then copy all the data to the new card? Aren't my purchases from the Market tied to the SDCard?
You will probably have alot of hidden folders and files on that SD card so make sure to copy those over too.
And no, purchases are linked to your Google account.... durr ;-p

[Q] Question about SDHC Card

I just bought a new SDHC Card, a 32 gb Class 10 Kingston, and i have two questions about the use of it.
1) What is the best way to format it?
2) Can you just copy all the content of the old SD Card to the new one, by mounting the phone to the PC and insert the new SD Card to the reader in the PC and copy the content from the old card in the phone to the new card, and use it. Does alle the programs, games and photos installed on it then work?
1) Format on the phone using the format option, or on the PC to FAT or FAT32.
2) A physical copy is not possible as far as my knowledge goes, as some of the folders are protected and won't allow to be copied.
Best bet is to use a backup software which practically backsup everything - sms, contacts, apps, settings etc to your memory card.. and restore back to your new one.

Click to collapse
Assuming your existing SD card holds only FAT/FAT32 partition, then all you have to do is unmount your SD card and remove it from your phone. Then copy all files into the new card using a PC and then insert the new card to the phone.
Okay, il'l try and se how it goes when i get then new card tomorrow - thanks guys ;-)

Downloads not saving to SD card..

everytime i download a file or anything from the web, instead of creating a download folder in the root of the SD card, it created one under the Internal Storage....how can i make the SD card to be my Default storage?
SDcard is internal, SDcard-ext is the external card. Haven't seen anyway to default downloads to the external card.
there has to be a way to make the Micro SD card to be the default for downloads and what not. All my other phones have created subfolders under the MicroSD card.
I do not want to use my internal 8gb to save PDF files when i download them from the internet. I want to use my 32GB MicroSD card like it does on other phones...
This has been a NIGHTMARE. I just realized sdcard is internal and sdcard-ext is my actual SD Card. I just assumed sdcard was my flash memory card as this was the case with my Droid X. I changed ES File to the ext location as my default, and my browser's DL section to the ext location as well as Titanium backup. I can't figure out how to save my E-Mail attachments to the ext directory though and I have to continually move them manually, not to mention every app is using the sdcard directory (internal memory) and thinking it is my actual Micro SDHC card. This is a NIGHTMARE and I have read it is not a Motorola problem as new Samsung and HTC phones have the same problem, it is an Android problem. Why the heck would Google change the naming scheme of the SD Card when it worked fine before? Anyway if ANYONE has any solutions suggestions, I would really appreciate it. Thanks
I totally agree. There had to be a way to make all downloads, etc save to sd c
ard-ext.
It's probably going to take a custom Rom to fix.

Apps on SD card - what happens when card is replaced?

I have moved some of my apps to an external SD card. I want to replace my SD card with a larger one, but don't want to break the apps that I've migrated to the SD card. If I copy all of the files from the old SD card to the new one, is there any way that I can retain access to the apps on the SD card without having to re-install them?
The reason I don't want to re-install the apps is that one of them (an e-reader app) has a large number of readable documents. These take a long time to download, and need to be done one at a time. Hence it would literally take hours to restore it.
All apps data should be in the Android folder of the SD card. So, just copy the whole Android folder to the new SD card. But make sure all apps that have been moved to SD card proir are not running while you swap SD cards.
Thanks. My concern is the name assigned to external SD cards seems to be different for each card. For example, my current card is listed as "4575-5888". If I replace it with a different card I assume that name/number will be different for the new card. If the apps installed on the old SD card refer to "4575-5888" then would they be broken when I put the new SD card in, even if I have copied over the /Android folder?
The name of the SD card makes no matter for sdcard1 is always sdcard1 = SD card slot.
