Hello all,
I currently have N1 rooted, but curretly still using FRF91 STOCK ROM.
I am a little bit confused on how to modify my N1.
Actually I am planning to flash it with CyanogenMod when the Full Version is out and then instal Metamorphs.
But when I saw the metamoprphs, all are modification bit by bit, it's kinda tiring to find the cool combination of the theme.
any suggestion for the best ROM and the UI modification?
thx before
Do you want sense? It not I'd just go with cm6.
so CM 6 is the answer eh?
is the RC1 stable enough?

There are some quirks here a there but they are isolated problems I think. Its been stable for me so far without any problems.
Now I'm on CM 6 RC1
what next?
I would like to use themes or modify UI. SHould I use metamorph?

there are plenty of different themes, some require flashing from the recovery while others are easier and you can just do it through metamorph. go to the themes and app section and browse around for a theme you like
I've just installed LauncherPro. It brought a new touch to my phone
I'm going to try themes next
great, I've flashed a theme and I got a boot loop!

Hey guys so ive got one of the Rogers dream phones,.I was wondering if it is possible to flash one of the themes (meteamorph)? The reason I ask is that these phones are EBI1 not EBI0 like the tmobile ones.
Being ebi1 makes it so that not everything is compatible, an example of this is the cyanogen rom, it is not compatible with out a special kernel for our phones.
Once again, are the metamorphosis themes compatible with our ebi1 phones?
I am in the exact same boat lol my provider is fido and I use the latest cyanogen on my rooted ebi1 rogers dream I jus thought that this was a funny coincidence oh and obviously I'm in canada ps . I reall would like it if brian the god who makes our cyanogen port files, ported the 10mb ram hack
Themes are all good. I've used the ones from the cm updater with no issues. I also tried some meteamorphs a while ago with no issues. I think there is an issue with meteamorph on the latest cyanogen thoe. not 100% sure
To the first poster, yeah that would be great because we can't get dwangs fast rom on ebi1. Do you know if anyone has asked him to port it?

Where can I get cm updater from? I didn't find it on the market. And am I correct in thinking that the cm updater does more than just update cyanogen roms?
EDIT ive found it and see that it can update the cm aswell as use themes. I still need an answer to my post after this one.
I am wondering if it is safe to use cm updater to update our phones because we require the special kernal to use cm. Do we need to apply a kernal everytime, does it do it for us, or do we do it ourselves. (This is regarding updating the cm itself not the theme)
Hey guys, so I am still waiting for a response regarding my above post but in addition I would like to say that I now have a theme using cm updater. I downloased the first one in the recommened list. I was wondering what the difference between advance and regular launcher. There where two options for this theme one with regular other with advanced. I chose regular because I don't know what a lanucher is.
i have heard that people have asked him but he hasnet responded with a definitive answer

You just need to add the bcrook Kernel as a theme. Follow the directions in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=592377
To Update:
1. Themes > Menu > Check Now
2. Select the newest bc-ebi1 file from the theme section
3. Click on it and download it, choose Apply Later when finished.
4. Download the newest Cyanogen ROM from the ROM section. Choose Apply Now.
This will reboot to recovery and flash the newest cyanogenmod. Then apply the previously downloaded port file.
Enjoy!
Thanks for the link andanswer, that will come in handy.
Another question I have is what's the difference between advanced and regular launcher?
You can look at the thread for advanced laucher and see the differences. Folders, change the number of home screens and more.
hmm i have a rogers dream and ive never had problems with themes, cm updater or anything. also ive never had to install any "special" kernel for any rom ive put on my phone.
im pretty sure i used the "rogers one touch root" guide in the dev forum when i originally rooted my phone.
is there a difference between the old and new rogers dreams? or are all this ebi1??
I use the enoch theme and it works great and looks even better. I think that most roms don't touch the kernel so they should be fine.

There is a difference but it isn't with the radio (ebi1 vs ebi0) its with the spl. It just requires the one click root to get around. You must have used haykuro's method to root which switches your radio to EBI0 making it compatible with any rom for the G1.

ahh makes sense, i used haykuro's method. thanks for the clarification.
hey i am using the binary something theme. When on the old Cyanogen rom it had the same theme but with the lockscreen, when updating to the latest CM rom i dont see the lock screen version anymore. (i am using CM updater)
Ok so I am now using the enoch theme, I like the blue accent and the transparent design to show more background. One thing that I miss is the lock screen, CM updater doesn't show any option for installing a enoch lockscreen. Is there any way to get a lockscreen? Also can I use any lockscreen even if it is not enoch? (Cm updater shows no lockscreens anyway)
Does the latest CM rom 12.2 not support any lockscreens yet? Or do I just need to add more sorces for themes in cm updater? If so could someone guide me into doing that.
could someone please answer as to can I use any lockscreen? and how can i get this done with cm updater?
Hi,
to make long story short, I'd like to have HTC/Sense on Vanilla 2.1 ROM.
Vannilla Eclair 5.0 to be precise.
Something like this: http://androidforums.com/roms-droid/118201-htc-status-bar-theme-motaboy.html would be perfect.
Anything like that already made? Or could I just pull files from another 2.1 ROM with Sense?

all depends on what ROM you are using...
You have a lot of themes for the CM´s several versions in Android Themes section.Just make sure they are MDPI´s
what do you mean?

Yeah I checked them but nothing I need. I think I'll check some tutorials and swap a few PNGs by myself. I'm using Vanilla Eclair, it's based on CM 5.0.8, so 5.0.8 themes should be compatible with it?
i cant link my contacts to fb? i go to contacts page and press mene but dont have the link function? unlike the sense people

So I finally decided to root my N1 after owning it for about 7 months now, I'm sick of using the stock theme, I want to black out my status bar and have a cool theme on it, so any suggestions?
Complete newb.
Should I flash a new rom? Any fast roms that look almost stock but with more of a galaxy vibrant look to it?
All newbies should start with Cyanogen. I did it and it was worth it. Try Cyanogen Mod v6.0.0. If you are feeling adventurous then try one of the MIUI based roms... its different.
Eh I wouldn't say that since cyanogen doesn't come with gApps. Start with something like leofroyo or something with a blackbar mod and move from there. Once you've flashed a few times and are confident in your abilities, move on to cyanogen and learn2play.
Why not start out with Geo's ROM ? Almost stock but has a black bar add on
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714184
Can anyone provide instructions on how to flash a new rom? Should I just download the rom file, rename it to update.zip and do it from recovery? How would I go about flashing Geo's ROM?
Do I also need to unlock bootloader?
You don't need to unlock the bootloader (I haven't), but you will need a custom recovery.

Any recommendations on ROMs? How does the Evil Desire HD rom run? Smooth? Fast?
def. recommend enom's with the galaxy theme
Hi,
I've never tried a gb rom (in fact any rom), but I'm rooted and ready to go. But which one? So many choices.
What's the most reliable and complete gb 2.3 rom? Recommendations?

You want everything for granted? Test and see which is good enough for you. Maybe someone has other tastes...
Hi Andy,
I've been using MicroMod's ASOP for a while now with no issues (other than those listed, mainly no Video Camera). Getting around 2 days battery life with moderate use, which is better than other roms I've tried.
It's mainly stock, which works for me. Best bet is to try a few and see what you like. Nandroid is your friend!
Matt
Micromod's GB ROM is pretty stable for everyday use.
If you want features than the CyanogenMod 7nightlies is stable enough for me to use everyday but it's still a work in progress.
...........
I like Micromod's GingerBread Rom (unfortunately just announced that he will be leaving the building for another device).
The CM nightlies are plenty stable.

Hi guys,
Thanks to all who replied. Seems like a fairly good consensus of opinion, that micromods rom might be s good starting point.
Once I've started (probably with micromods), who knows where it will lead? (Hopefully not to a brick..
)
Just don't want my first ever flash to be something known to be incomplete or unstable.
Ta!

MicroMod's latest version of 2.3 .. and flash redstar's kernel for an awesome battery life.
hi Deekay, are you referring to this redstart kernel: RedStar 925mV Kernel?

Don't worry so much man. As long as you're not flashing an HBOOT, radio, or maybe a recovery, it's very hard to brick a phone. I would recommend trying a leaner, cleaner GB ROM before trying MicroMods, just so you can get a feel for pure GB without all of the extra apps and funky screen transitions. Straight CM7 nightly is what I'd suggest. Check imfloflo's thread.

CM7 GB is more stock than MM AOSP GB? I find CM to be one of the most modded ROMs out there, not that that's a bad thing.

CM7 has a lot of options built in, but so does MM's GB ROM. Both are excellent, but of the two, CM doesn't have any fancy screen transitions and extra apps installed aside from the basics.
Hi all,
Thanks for all the suggestions. Unsure of the "wonkyness" of cm7, I flashed micromods aosp gb rom last night. Did multiple titanium and nandroid backups, bit my lip and went for it.
Superb! Running it now, no regrets so far... all done within about an hour, everything working.
Thanks for all your comments.

Just to make it clear for others as I think there is a little confusion. Micromod777 has released two gingerbread ROM's. His original GB ROM was one of the first good stable builds after the AOSP was released, this finished on v.20 which can be found here:
Gingerbread v.20
He then began working on a new ROM based on Cyanogenmod 7, which is now discontinued as he's a busy man:
MicroMod's Gingerbread CM7 Custom ROM v1.4-FINAL
hello all,
i have recently bought a nexus one and wondering wht i should flash? I like sense but they appearantly are all very slow. I hate miui. I like cm7 but hate its ui. What should i flash?
Sense !
I'm using the lastest sebastiaan's ROM , witha class 10 and it's perfect, the A2SD is AWESOME , no lag in game
If you have a class 10 , install now the seb's ROM , but the dowloading is very long (50 min )
Thanks
PS : you must install 4ext recovery , to use the touch installer !!!!
Depends what you like/use your phone for? I wanted ICS so I went with TexasICS, looks very nice but still has some bugs.
You should wait for stable ICS

Same here, I hate cm7's ADW stuff they use. Stock gingerbread UI is much better compared to ADW.
You can go with BuglessBeast which is mostly stock gingerbread with few additions like over clocking support.
If you want to stay bleeding edge then install MeDroid or TexasIce ICS ROMs. They both have camera and gallery issues, missing hardware acceleration and calendar sync issue.

In my opinion the GUI is nicer in ICS, but it is not yet stable enough for full time use. I haven't tried games like Angry Birds yet, but I suspect they wouldn't run well, because graphics aren't properly fixed in the port yet.
First of all ROM basically is ur choice how u wanna use ur phone.
As u said that u already used miui, y bothering trying any other ROM? It's fast stable and good looking ...
On the other hand sense ROM is also good but u always have the processing issues unless u have a high class SD card.
Bugles beast is a nice suggestion for u to use gingerbread UI with smooth and minimal usage...
PS: since I've started using miui I've not thought about any other ROM

I've practically tried all the ROMs on here, from MIUI to Sense and I've got a few things to say.
MIUI looks like iOS in many ways, but is VERY themable. There are themes for almost anything.
CM7 (mainly samuaz's build) is a very fast and stable ROM. It basically displays the stock android experience with a minimal UI. Highly themable.
Sense: HTC's firmware now ported to the Nexus One. Features a stunning and hefty UI that takes a lot of resources. I've tried all builds here, but mainly Runny AIO and I have to say that's the best build. I love Sense. It is not really recommended to run Sense if you have a class 2 SD card like I do, but I'll upgrade it for a class 6 one tomorrow.
Ice Cream Sandwich/Cyanogenmod 9. Very hyped, but with all rights to it. ICS and/or CM9 are totally awesome ROMs and well worth trying out, despite their flaws. Even with no real hardware acceleration, they're awesome. Use texasice's version if you want near-stock ICS experience with a pinch of evervolv tweaks and use samuaz's build if you want a Cyanogenmod 9 experience. Sometime this year, we'll get an official CM9 build from the Cyanogenmod team, but texasice and samuaz have done an amazing job with porting ICS to us.
Other AOSP builds. These builds also kind of displays the stock android experience, but with user added features and frameworks. Some are based partly on Cyanogenmod 7 while others are based on something else. Bugless Beast and OxygeN1mod are among the best in this category.
You're free to choose what ROM suits you best, but my vote goes to Runny AIO or any of the two ICS builds.
Cheers.

It doesn't unfortunately. I haven't tried to install DT's A2SD on it because as far as I know the kernel used in Bugless doesn't have ext4 support. I might be wrong though ..

Alternative to Enoms Rom
I am still running Enoms Rom on my N1. This is the most stable and battery effecient Rom I have tried. The problem is that its quite old (Froyo). I was thinking of going to ICS but the stability just isnt there yet. I am thinking of going to Gingerbread instead. Can someone here recommend a good Gingerbread Rom similar to Enoms? I am mainly looking for 720p HTC camera, trackball wake and led notification. Stability and battery life are important as well.

Me either, and i can't see that ever changing. It really is the best of all worlds. It's unbelievably smooth, stable and pretty as hell. Core apps are vast improvements over that which are found in other ROMs.
