Ok so I'm new to this phone.. I am coming from G1 and I'm a bit confused as to what the .Bin files are and then comes the custom roms...
So let me get this right.. from what i'm reading, the .BIN in pretty much firmware and you load the roms on top of them? or can I load the roms just straight up?
Everywhere I read it says to use a 1.100.05 bin and then add the rom.. can I flash any liquid e rom over a newer bin? what's the deal?
Thanks for the info

wow great work community...
don't help me or anything.
Wow man, calm down
Firstly, you didn't posted in the good section, so post moved
Then, about your question, here is my answer, but maybe not totally right (But I'm pretty sure it is ) :
BIN files are the official acer roms. They also contains the baseband of the phone, which contain mainly the radio.
Custom rom, in zip format, are full rom. They are based on a certain baseband, that's why each rom recommand its own bin file (mainly, they are all based on the latest one available).
Hope this have answered to your questions.

Hi ! First I'd like to say " Thank you ! " to all the developers here, you are doing a great job.
Second, I'm kinda a noob, cause I only got my Wizard (G3) 2 weeks ago... I curently have installed Molski's latest rom...and i'm pretty happy with it...
The problem is, I just want to make my own ROM, no offense.
I read all about extended rom cooking...it's ok, easy peasy , thx to Faria...but I read allot of posts and I just can't find how to make my own ROM, not ext rom...just like Molski did, or any other rom maker. I don't know if it's just me...
---So .... How can I make my own ROM , or bether said, my own RUU ?---
I kinda saw that those who ask stupid questions are rather ignored...I pray this isn't the case
And another thing... If any of you need some help...tester...or anything else, mabe we can work something out...
Thanks for your time , and keep up the good work !

Oh plenty of people have read this thread almost 80 views at last count. It's just that we have a couple of really good chefs here and the rest of us are testers.

PLUS -- there are already some really good threads in the Development section on how to "cook" your own ROM. . . as near as your search engine.
Take a look at these threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=249836
http://buzzdev.net/index.php?option=com_phorum&Itemid=125&phorum_query=read,64,23392

That should get you started... but most of the learning process is still trial and error
Good Luck

You can't go wrong flashing one of the newer 1.56-based roms out now. If you read the guide in my signature you can't go wrong
As cRaCKwHoRe said you can't go wrong with one of the newer 1.56 roms based on either WM6.1 or WM6.5
As for which is better, your opening a whole can of worms there mate. This has been asked before and closed done just as often by Mod's
There is no best rom, its user dependant on what you as the user is looking for as they're lite roms, heavy roms, roms built for speed etc etc etc
Best advice I can offer is to go into each rom thread, read up on each and if you like the look of one of them, try it out. If your not happy, try another.
I've flashed countless rom's (60+) and I'm still not 100% happy.
Each rom thread should provide installation guides or direct you to them, though you couldn't go wrong with cRaCKwHoRe's
I'm personally testing Duttys V3.0 which isn't released yet, but should be in the next few days. Could be worth waiting for, though I'd maybe read up on others and try flashing to get accustomed to the process
Happy searching and I hope you find the right rom for you!!
Hi All,
Please would someone be so kind and explain how to make a rom from a phone using anything would be good, but preferably flashable via odin
What i am asking is how to dump an I9000 rom so that I can flash it via Odin on a I900 once again, not porting just a basic dump.
i'm interrested too
Really dude? Read stickies, search, read up a ton before posting stupidly pointless threads like this. Sorry, but this is a busy forum and people like you asking baseless questions aren't a part of it.
In case you didn't know, porting ROMs from devices is extremely hard. There is progress going on porting HTC Sense from the Desire HD but it's extremely time consuming and difficult even for very experienced devs.

Did you do a search? well there is FA info at all on this topic, and I am not looking at porting a rom, i simply want to dump my rom as is as a image.
dd i guess could work, but how the hell do make it odin friendly?

Which am I, the one asking the baseless questions or the one telling others not to? =P
Dumping a ROM is definitely different than porting from another device, but the way your question stated you wanted to take a dump from another phone (Desire for example) and then magically stick that in Odin and make it work or something. Sorry for misunderstanding.
I take it you want to dump your current ROM and then publish for others to use, like Nandroid backup style? I guess that might be interesting although I'll personally stick to cooked ROMs like Docs that are ready to flash with all optimizations and changes applied at the get-go.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he will eat for life. Cryptic as it may be, but I guess the OP is interested in trying to make a backup.
I know samfirmware has most of the firmwares, but it would be nice to know how to create a flashable rom.
Some of us really would like to know how to do this. Samfirmwares does not have all the roms. They do not have the ntt docomo rom for japan on their site. The phone was just released the 28 October with the official 2.2 froyo rom on it. I would like to walk in the store dump the rom from their demo phone to sd card. Put the rom on my phone. I really want get my sp mode working. I have rom mananger. Does rom manager do rom dumps with the back rom option.
I agree this seems like a good idea, my bad for not understanding the Cyrptic OP lol
I don't think we get nandroid backups right now. I don't think anyone has taken a dump from a running SGS and turned it into a flashable ROM. I just know that Doc, Tatyuma and others have taken Samsung's packages and cooked them into their nice flashable zips.

Post updated, hopefully it makes more scene now
Hello all- I am currently using my SGS with the old JPY firmware and see there are quite a few upgrades but I am happy with JPY and am wondering why/if I should upgrade ?
The only reason I can see is simply to be compatible with some of the newer themes but is there any other reason to upgrade, performance, visually, etc.. ?
Is it worth it or will I basically not really notice any difference ?
Cheers for any help !!!

Personally, I'm waiting for the next ginger rom (official is due very soon)

Yes, it's worth upgrading. Try Ultimate rom 8.2. You get a lot of performance improvements which lead to a smoother experience, and you increased features. Follow the instructions carefully!
This is in the wrong sub forum. It should have been in questions and answers.
why should you post this in development section and not in questions and answers?
we need a anti-thanks button!

Speed is the first thing you will notice, then being able to change your phone to how you want it not how your Phone Provider wants it eg themes no adds,no crap apps
By the way this is the wrong place to post try the Q&A section
Wrong Section of the forums.
Why should I answer your question?

I have a friends LG 2X and it was originally on froyo then i officially upgraded to gingerbread then unofficially uses smart flash to flash the ICS KDZ file and now I can't flash anythink including every version of clockworkMOD! please advise me on what to do! I'm going to try repartitioning with the "NEW" partition table.
more info: its randomly factory resting and rebooting, being really slow and sluggish and generally useless

ps. what's the most stable custom rom for the 2X?

I can give you a big list to try.....almost 95% of them are stable.....but you have to try it yourself and find out. 2013 is one of the best years for O2X for having a variety of ROMs....CM based, Stock based, PAC, and so on
nothing is wrong....be proud of this device which is almost unbrickable......so recover it and start enjoying it.
