Changing the language - Touch Diamond2, Pure Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good morning.
Having looked around a bit, I kept getting directed to XDA Developers so here I am. From various searches I have found out the following and I just wanted to confirm it before going further.
My problem is that I bought a HTC Touch Diamond 2 phone yesterday and all the menus are in Dutch. Changing the language in settings only seems to affect the date display, everything else stays in Dutch. I want to change the whole lot to English.
I read that this is not possible within the OS and that I must install (flash?) a new OS / ROM thingy. I looked in your guide but the link to shipped ROMs gives a 404 error.
I looked on the HTC site and they have a Rom Upgrade Utility, however based on my phone's S/N HTC will only link me to an upgraded ROM in Dutch. The file they ogffered me is called;
_HTC Touch Diamond2_QMR_RUU_Topaz_HTC_NLD_1.39.404.4_Radio_Signed_Topaz_61.20t.25.10_3.43.25.19_Ship.exe
Clearly this isn't going to be what I want, so I played around with the S/N and eventually found a number that would link me to what I *think* is the right ROM
The downloaded filename is;
_HTC Touch Diamond2_QMR_RUU_Topaz_HTC_WWE_1.39.405.3_Radio_Signed_Topaz_61.20t.25.10_3.43.25.19_Ship.exe
I plan to follow the HTC site instructions to install this to my phone (so not installing hardspl or whatever that is), is there anything that I'm missing here? I suppose my concern is that I've randomly changed characters on the S/N until HTC oferred me what looks like the right file, but it could be for an older phone etc etc. In the event that I run this and it all goes t*ts up, I suppose I can reflash with the Dutch ROM from the HTC site to restor it to Dutch, albeit with an upgraded ROM?

The XDA-WIKI is down, that's why you get a 404 error.
For a list of available official ROMs you can go to HTCPedia or to my website htc-topaz.co.cc/website => Official ROMs.
You can try to flash one of the WWE ROMs without HardSPL, but I doubt that it will work. Usually the phone allows you only to flash official ROMs for the same language/region. But with a NLD phone and a WWE ROM it might work. If not, there will be no damage, as it simply will not flash.
Btw. 1.39 is not the latest official version. The latest have a 2.53 or 2.54 version number and are WM6.5. 1.39 is the latest WM6.1 version.

RUU Fails since i upgraded to a WM6 ROM?

Hi everyone,
First and foremost, let me introduce myself, I am known as wizzkidd (a name that often is used against me at times like these). Aged 27 from London, UK. I'm a typical mod-freak, modding anything and everything possible from PSP's to Wii's to Cable TV etc etc.
Anyway, I've got a SPV M700 (aka HTC P3600) branded on Orange UK running Windows Mobile 5, and everthing works fine. I found this wonderful site when I was researching into the amazing additions and power of Windows Mobile 6.
To my amazement, I soon realised it would be possible to upgrade to WM6, so off I went reading through the forum....
To start with I realised I needed to perform a CID Unlock (and whilst at it, I done the SIM Unlock too) before I could proceed. I done this perfectly fine.
I then found the first ROM that looked impressive as it was based on WM6 and had a bundle of goodies baked within it. (im learning the terminology too, hehe), it was a PDAViet ROM (latest to date)... I followed the instructions and hey presto, my phone was a fancy WM6 version with loads of impressive goodies installed.
After search for more stuff here, I found loads of interesting stuff. But firstly I decided to install the Hard-SPL into my phone for my own protection when doing future ROM flashes.
What caught my eye was the Touch Flo stuff, so I wanted it. Searching through the threads and the progress in development, I soon found a Wizard ROM that includes Touch Flo, and based on user suggestions and feedback, I decided to go for NBD v7.4.
My problem:
- (currently running PDAViet ROM: 02.07.06.PV and have Hard-SPL integrated)
- I double click on the "ROMUpdateUtility_Wizard_NoID.exe"
- I tick the "I understand...." and the "I Completed the steps..." boxes
- (the USB cable is connected and ActiveSync 4.5 detects the connection fine)
"Verifying the information on your PDS Phone..." displays for about 4 seconds...
The RUU displays the current information about my phones image, and has a "Update" button to click to update the current ROM version, so I click it...
The RUU displays some verify checks such as
FROM
model ID: ""
image version: "02.07.06.PV"
Language: ""
TO
model ID: "Wizard"
Image Version: ""
Language: "WWE"
I click next twice... the phone boots into the Hard bootloader (SPL-1.20.Olipro) and the USB connection disconects and then reconnects at this point (i can tell this by the audio sounds), the RUU displays the progress bar at 0% and nothing happens, the screen on the M700 stays on the bootloader screen, and the RUU stays on 0% - this lasts for about 15 seconds, then the RUU says "ERROR [264]: CONNECTION, and gives me the option of clicking the "Recovery" button, doing so, and following the instructions, leads to a final message saying: "Error recovery has been successful and the update process is ready to resume. Exit recovery and run the RUU again."... I try running the RUU again, and im back to sqyare one again!
I've even tried using the Soft-SSL (by Des), but the progess bar stays at 0% and the bootloader stays on the screen.
What could be wrong?
PS Thanks for reading and thanks for your patience if you've got this far. lol
Don't flash a wizard rom onto a trinity rom. Only flash trinity roms. That's like trying to flash moto razr firmware on it. Not meant to insult, just telling. I hope your device isn't bricked.
what you're doing wrong is flashing a Wizard Rom on your phone. There's a reason that the forum is divided in to different sections for different phones.
Think of it this way.. would you put a Wii mod on your PSP? you're lucky that the RUU has saved you from carrying around an expensive brick.. read a little more.. flash a little less..
Ohh I see, I didnt realise 'Wizard' was a different model name, I assumed it was a Wizard in the sense of an 'Easy Install For All...' type ROM, (ie If you was to use a wizard when creating a chart in an excel spreadsheet, catch my drift).
My bad for mis inturpreting what a 'Wizard ROM' was. Ooops. Well, my device still operates pefectly fine anyway.
Do you know anywhere I can get a stable version of Touch Flo for my device? Preferably cooked in a ROM, because I used a alpha version of the Touch Flo .cab file, and I had nothing but problems.
Thanks
there are no trinity ROM's to my knowledge with touch flo built in... should be coming soon now that official Dopod WM6 ROM is out... keep an eye on the trinity mobile 6 forum (and not on the Wizard forum haha)
lol. OK.
I noticed you're using the same ROM as me at the moment. Have you tried installing the Touch Flo (Alpha) cab file and managed to get it working by anychance? (eg. No black screen)
didn't work for me. I couldn't really be bothered to mess with it too much as people have such varied results. Someone will cook it in to a ROM before long. Look out for mun's Indigo ROM.. he said he'd put it in.

Reverting back to HTC ROM and SPL for warranty return?

At the point I am I need the help of experienced Users from the community.
I flashed a original HTC Wings (S730) with WM 6.1 ROM. It runs perfectly until I got a hardware problem (radio) . This is the reason I have to send it back to the official service.
Therefore I tried to go back to an official ROM from the http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=WINGS_WM61_Alcaline
At first I flashed the earlier backuped Bootloder via sspl-0.91-wings.exe. This seems to be okay. But as I tried to flash an official ROM from the site mentioned above, during the flashing process I've got the note 'ERROR 294 Invalid vendor ID'. What was wrong? Did I forget any step?
Please, is there anyone who can describe the correct way back to 'warranty' for a newbie?
Thanx a lot.
have you tried all the ROM's? there is one prerelease and two release ROM's.. try both of the release roms, they might be for different production models/locations.
I tried both official released ROM's (signed as 'Ship'), not the prerelease version.
and if you first flash the shiped rom (with hardspl) and when done flash the back-up of the spl
With reference to an earlier statement of bigflavour in the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=383617&page=17
I flashed back the original SPL at first.
Too bad It seems to be that I have a new problem now. Few minutes ago I have tried to reinstall hardSPL on the device via the well known sspl-0.91-wings.exe running on the Wings. But as I started the sspl, the device shows on the display that 'Access denied....is not digitally signed with a trusted certificate'.
Thereupon I thought I had to 'application_unlock' the device. After running the SDA_App...Unlock on my PC the display message shows succesful unlocking process. B U T, the sspl doesn't run as before.
Now, I'm totally confused. What has happened??
It's flavor, and unfortunately, I have no idea how to help you.
Probably tried the European english's spelling hehe.
Also This does seem like an odd problem, have you tried for kicks doing the factory reset to see if it will reset some of the registry and maybe fix your issues? I dont know anything about the spl's since I have no need to upgrade to 6.1, I wouldnt imagine it causing any more damage but again I dont know what all was done. I havnt followed those threads for a long time.
Thanx a lot. Apparently, the hint to make a hard reset hits the mark. Now I flashed back the HardSPL. So I'm back at the starting line . Does anyone knows if the official ROM from the http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index..._WM61_Alcaline is the latest one and can I use it for the warranty return?
Or should I look for an original German HTC ROM?
I was a little bit to fast. I will need a German ROM definitely, because the ROM from the Wiki doesn't include a the german language option.
Is there anyone who can help me with a original HTC S730 ROM for the german market?
Thank you in advance.
Hallo HSN,
if you give me a introduction how I backup my ROM, you can have my one. I own a German HTC S730. But I am confused when I read all threads about flashing etc....
One page introduction how to back up and you can have my one.
But I think that the Repair center here in Germany, doesn't care about the Rom you have installed.

HTC TyTn II Aussie ROM?

Firstly...I'm with 3 in Australia
Ok, bought a TYTN II off ebay some months ago now from a Hong Kong dealer (that'll learn me) and it seems to not work with the 3G network here in Australia. The phone is always EDGE roaming and whenever it switches to 3G I can't send or receive SMS messages.
I've done some reading around and found that maybe I need to flash the ROM of the phone to an Australian one so that the phone will work properly. I found a thread on Whirlpool and someone there posted a link to this ROM for another user:
www.mediafire.com/?0jt1cwyx61g
Is that the ROM I want? If so, how do I go about flashing my phone with this ROM to make it work?
Can anyone help me??
You're more than likely having issues with the radio that came with the phone. Go to the ROM development forum, read how to unlock, install HardSPL, etc.. and then choose either one of the ROMs that come with a new radio available: NATF, Hyperdragon, Dutty's, etc... or look at one of the threads that show how to install a new radio. I'm not going to make any ROM recommendations, because it's really a matter of personal taste and how the ROM feels to you. For me personally, I've settled on T.i.R vk8 WWE build 19971. And I have radio version 1.58.25.17.
Hey dude,
congrats on the kick-ass new phone.
To help you with your prob, you'll have to signup and login to HTC E-Club for Australia, then download and flash the latest 3 ROM. Its the only way to ensure you have the correct inbuilt three network settings, there was a cab floating around a while back but it didn't include planet3 connectivity - only mobile internet.
look for this one :
HTC TyTN II WM6.1 ROM code for Hutchison ‘3’ Network customers
ROM version: 3.29.861.0
ROM date: 05/15/08
Radio version: 1.65.16.25
Protocol version: 25.83.40.02H
Date: 2008-06-02 Category: ROM Upgrade
I found the ROM development page and the list of radios that relate to the specific ROM's match the ones I already have (note: I already flashed my phone using the one in the link I provided in my first post).
I went and registered for HTC E-Club and went to download the WM6.1 ROM u mentioned Sanchez and when I entered the Serial Number it says the ROM is unsuitable for my phone. Is this because it is NOT an Australian phone?
Would this ROM actually work on my phone and would I be able to get a copy of it from somewhere else?
yeah, its not the actual ROM so much as the stuff Three bundle within that you need.
I'm aka Dr.Nerdlinger on whirlpool, a guy I recommended this to didn't have any problems, seemed to make his US Tilt into an Aussie Three TyTnII.. Havent tried it myself as Im already three branded.

Damn! Sorry...
The ROM I posted the link to doesn't ask me for a "serial" when I've flashed it..
I assume you have run the Connection Setup wizard (Settings > Connections > Connection Setup?
Have you tried to manually enter 3's settings?
Perhaps flash the latest Hyperdragon III http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=397121
It has a suitable radio for Australia and I flashed this recently on a TyTn II purchased in Malaysia and all worked fine (as did the ROM I referred to earlier)
Ok but to flash to that (being a cooked ROM) dont I have to do something before I can flash to that? Is it HardSPL I have to install or something like that?
Yes... Unlock and flash a hard spl...
It is quite easy
Excellent directions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=356895
I am in no way an expert with these devices but I have had no problem that hasn't been quickly resolved.
perhaps unlocking the phone may resolve your problem with flashing the 3 shipped ROM.... (again, no expert here)
Ok seems this is not gonna work. I've done some reading and apparently the board it to blame for my phone not working properly. Since it was an eBay job (but from a company) I can still get warranty but I have to send overseas to HK.
What do people think, I can buy a new TytnII for $659 and when the old one comes back from warranty I can sell it. Would the new one (if I bought from Australian store) work on 3G?
Unless it's faulty hardware, it shouldn't need a return. Don't spend your cash just yet
Try this new official 3.34.721.2 WWE HTC rom, with 1.70 radio.
Download it, plug your activesync cable in, run the exe file you downloaded - after 20 mins or so, you should have the latest ROM, with built in Aus Three Network detection (assuming you have a legal 3 sim-card)
(ps. it may seem like its stalled while flashing, but just give it time)
Report back if successful
Downloaded and installed last night - doesnt seem to have made any difference
sigh...

After Flashing a ROM you should always hard reset the device as well. After all this is done, what versions of the following are showing as being installed: ROM, Radio, SPL (can find the last one in the tri colour boot screen - read the wiki if you need to know how to get to the boot screen)? If all of this is showing correctly and you're still having problems then it's probably something like the sim (just any old sim won't do and it needs to be compatible with the phone). You could try another if you have a spare. When you switched it on, after a minute or so did you get a message popping up asking if you wanted to automatically configure the phone for your networks settings?

SIM Unlock help...

Hi all,
I had an O2 XDA Stellar which I believe is the HTC TYTN II. However, this phone was stolen a couple of weeks back. I purchased a second hand one today which is sim locked to the orange network. I managed to break the lock by following the instructions on this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433835. I followed the instructions word for word till step 5.
The problem is now though it accepts the SIM and I can dial out, I don't have any audio on the calls So I can call and my phone also rings when I receive a call but I can't hear the caller nor can I be heard at the other end
Also, I hate the orange rom (and I used to complain about the O2 rom) and I wish to use the default HTC WM 6.1 professional upgrade the problem again is that it asks for a serial number and my serial number starts with DCOxxxxxxxxxxx and it says that this is not a valid serial number
What do I do now? Has my phone become a brick Please do help I can't bear the thought of having one stolen and the other toasted by me
All help will be greatly appreciated

Did you actually read anything or did you just start hacking away ? I will cut and paste a few items out of that thread, so that you don't have to actually read it .
PLEASE READ THE *FAQ* BEFORE FLASHING OR ASKING QUESTIONS!!!
* IF YOU DONT NEED TO FLASH A NEW ROM THEN PROCEED TO STEP 6 TO PUT YOUR DESIRED RADIO BACK*
7. After I flash a Rom I dont have any sound in calls and the camera is black
The Radio has to match the version of Rom you flash i.e. WM6.1, an incorrect Radio will give sound and camera problems. Read The Ultimate Radio Thread to find a Radio that matches the Rom there are lots to try on there if one doesnt work then try another.
3. What are the different types of Unlock?[/B] (answer by DaveShaw)
The three stages of unlock are:
SIM: Allows you to use SIM's from another carrier. Can be done using codes or unlocker programs on xda-devs.
Security: Allows you to flash radios from another device - It does other stuff, but this is all the casual user will use it for
CID: CID unlocking is an old concept, nowadays you flash HardSPL instead. This lets you flash any ROM, Splash or Radio (depending on sec unlock) to your device. N.B. the CID is the carrier ID (e.g. HTC__001). The stock SPL's only let you flash ROM's that match the CID in the ROM image with the CID on your device.
Obviously you did not unlock your phone if a serial number is needed to flash a new rom. I would re read everything and do it again
Thanks for the reply

I've been through this link as well and I was contemplating installing the latest version of the HTC WM6.1 ROMS (version 3.34.721.2, radio version 1.70.19.09) available at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser_ROMs However I was not sure if this would be ok and (at the risk of sounding extremely dumb) I was not sure what WWE stood for

I maintained the default that was given by the unlocker for the CID (I think all zeros). Do I have to change this as per the ROM image? I don't mind re-doing this again it's a relief that my device isn't busted
No your phone isn't busted. Go into bootloader and check what it says next to spl, if you followed Mark's steps, it should say 3.29 Hard. If that is what it says ,then you can flash any Kaiser rom you want. If it doesn't then start over again.
WWE stands for World Wide English and those roms are all in English. That rom you picked will be fine, if you do not wish to explore the fine world of custom roms ? Maybe later.
You only have to CID unlock once by following the steps, not at every rom flash.
No sound means wrong radio, 6.0 roms need 6.0 radios and 6.1 roms need 6.1 radios. If the rom has a radio in it already then flash away.
Thanks Denco Flashed the ones I mentioned and it works perfect. Can't believe I actually have a working device Thanks for all your help, really great.
Now to sync my data to my new (second hand) htc and I'm good to go
Another question, the device works fine, however since it is a HK rom, it seems to have localised to HK. I've changed this as much as possible to UK. However, I'm wondering if this will affect anything else? For example the gps? Is there any quicker way to configure this globally so all settings use UK instead of HK?
Why didn't you flash the latest UK ROM.
Use this code: HT750GB02264 to download from HTC's site.

Once you are unlocked and HardSpl'd you can flash any rom you want. Pick a UK one another WWE rom or a custom rom. Test a bunch until you have one you like. Your only restriction is it has to be a Kaiser rom. And with all the Kaiser roms available, it is not a restriction at all.

Wow, thanks for that, I was looking for a valid serial through which I can download from the htc uk site One question I had is do I install the radio which I download from htc? Or do I keep the one I have already flashed? The one I have flashed yesterday seems to be a later version than what I've downloaded from htc

1. I keep hearing on this forum about Hard SPL, I'm not sure what this is used for or why it is required but I followed the instructions and it seems I had installed JumpSPL1.56-KAIS.exe. Now, since then I had flashed the rom, so do I need to reinstall this again? Is there some other one I should be using? I come across different versions on some threads. Also, how can I check the version of HardSPL I have?
2. When I view the memory (under settings) it shows me Storage and Program. However, I can't seem to see any storage area in file explorer. I know in my old xda 2i, there used to be a separate storage area. The reason is because some of the apps I install are quite bulky for example lexisgoo english dictionary (the dictionary files themselves are about 18mb) and this fills up the main memory. How can I install this in the storage memory? (not storage card since I sometimes swap storage cards)
Sorry lot of questions I know, but I'm a newbie and all help will be greatly appreciated
The UK downloaded ROM will install the radio too.
I would do a bit of testing with your current set-up, then flash the UK ROM.
Test the new UK ROM & radio & then reflash the radio only if you want (do some searching on Radio versions)
Newer versions are not always best, chasing the latest builds normally bites you in the ass at the end of the day.
Check HardSPL by going into bootloader:
* Using a stylus, press and hold the soft reset button at the bottom of the phone along with the camera button
* Release both buttons once the bootloader screen appears
* Exit bootloader by pressing soft reset button
Once you have installed HardSPL thats it, job done (you installed it during unlocking)
What you see in file explorer regarding storage is correct: 128MB RAM for running software ect & 256MB ROM for storing your programs ect (WM2003SE was different)
ROM can be increased by using one of the cooked lite ROMs if storage space is a concern.

Will do, the HK version seems very stable, the only thing that bothers me is the region settings. Anyway, I think I'll give the UK Rom a go and if that works well I'll stick with it

I checked the version and this is what it showed:
KAIS130
SPL-3.2.9.Hard
CPLD-8

TBH, I don't know what any of that means But do you think the version I have is ok, or do I need to upgrade this to some other version?

I've attached a screenshot of my memory screen. The bit that puzzles me is that the storage area apparently has a lot more storage but I do not have an option to install all my applications on that area or atleast the bulky ones. I don't think I need a lite one since I do have 112MB free in the storage area which is more than sufficient for all the apps I usually install. Can you advise how I can install apps to the storage area as well?
Lastly, I was wondering if it is possible for me install my apps on the rom and then kind of take an image of my setup and flash the rom with this setup. That way when I do a hard reset, all my apps are installed again. Which will save me the trouble I know sprite backup does something like this but I'd prefer if it was in the rom
Thanks for all your help, it has given me a lot of confidence in these matters. Something I probably wouldn't have attempted

I agree 101% and it appears fewer resources are put into ironing out bugs in the WM 6.1 ROMs than the WM 6.0 ones. I replied to fmervin's post in the ROM forums along these lines.
If all is running OK I would stick with your current HardSPL.
When installing your applications choose the option of installing to "Device"
You could install all your apps into a ROM, this would be cooking a ROM & is a complex process.
I would suggest a backup via Sprite or SPB. I use SPB v2.0 build3065 & it works well for me, preference of backup software is a bit of a Marmite scenario, you either love it or hate it.

You can't do that, it is flash memory. It's not like you can partition the hard drive.
But this is the easiest way to get your Apps and settings back after a flash.
Try this Sashimi Auto installer by a former XDA member. It is a nice little program that installs all your apps after a flash

Hey Denco..Than'x for considering my thread & giving out suggestion towards the link to check the info. But i m really nt that techy afterall so i can burn a ROM on my Tytn II. Even though i tried to burn a RUU rom that supports TyTN II ..Its just gets disconnected from USB mode..So i was looking forward to start it initially with some comparatively easier to install .cab files..Can't these RUU files be transformed into .cab files or maybe some other version of Manila 3D cab file that is completely fixed...I seriously have done a lot of research upon this but nothing looks like working. So please if you have some links to .cab files that can give a better & different look to my Kaiser running Windows 6.1...It'l be a great help !!
Than'x & regards in advance

I think you need to decide what it is that you want to accomplish. Unless you cook your own rom, there is no way to add apps to the rom ( so that they will remain after a hard reset) Your rom is wyour phone's base operating system, it contains your OS (WM 6.1 ) and can only be replaced after completely erasing and replacing all files from the previous rom.
If it is a new rom you want, pick a rom that interests you and follow these instructions verbatim .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433835
Your phone will go to the bootloader screen ( three color) and it will disconnect from usb during the process, but be patient until the end. When it says it takes ten minutes, it takes ten minutes. Leave the room if you have to , to keep from getting impatient.
If you just want to keep your OEM WM 6.1 and keep it simple, but change the look of your phone try this,
http://www.htcwiki.com/page/Manila+2D+and+M2D+Themes
This will change the look and feel of your phone with uninstallable .cab files and will not affect the rom or brick your phone by accident.

Change from Orange UK 1.59 ROM back to a generic HTC ROM

Hello all,
I've been searching non-stop now for over a month, and this is stressing me out. I cannot find any solution, so before I'm criticised for a repeat thread or something, I'd be really grateful if someone could point me in the right direction or explain to me how.
I upgraded my ROM on Orange UK's website and it's 1.59.61.2
But I hate it and want to go back to the original ROM as it all was. I've tried everything for downgrade or change it and nothing works. I'm not liking the Orange branding and all the changes that came with.
Can anyone help please?
Also, on a separate note, Advanced Config never saves new settings. Any ideas?
Thank you all in advance.

You've obviously not tried everything as you've not got it to work
Maybe if you list precisely what you've tried we can suggest alternatives...
By everything, I mean everything I can think of.
Tried installing ROMs below 1.59 i.e. 1.56, but loads to 1% and that an error message appears.
Tried reading some of the guides on here, but nothing has worked yet.
I'm not so up to speed with all the jargon, but I'm learning as I go along.
u need to use HSPL from olinex to downgrade roms or use custom roms...its a sticky...i'm also on orange as soon i got my HD i put on a custom rom asap and been trying different 1s since then...
Done all that, tried it all and it doesn't change a thing on my HD.
OK, so in August I upgraded my ROM on the Orange web site after the HTC web site wouldn't let me do it because it said "Sorry, this software download is not suitable for your device" after I put the S/N in. It installed no problems, but changed everything from HTC generic format to a customised Orange format.
Since then, I have used HSPL from OliNex, and tried custom ROMs. On the tri-colour screen it comes up with a different version each time (at the moment, it's BLAC100 32M SPL-1.54.0000). But on the 'Smart Mobility' screen, it comes up:
R 1.10.25.25
G 52.57.25.30U
D 1.59.48753
I used a S/N to download the ROM upgrade from the HTC web site (RUU_BlackStone_HTC_WWE_1.56.405.1_Radio_52.62.25.34_1.13.25.24_Ship). I go through everything where it says: "Verify you want to update the ROM version: From: 1.59.61.2 To: 1.56.405.1". It then appears to start, gets to 1% then fails coming up with "Error [294] : Invalid Vender ID"
I've done lots to the phone, installing lots of different versions of things, but it still remains the same.
Sorry for my ignorance and distinct lack of knowledge.
Not sure but the HD may be vendor locked to Orange roms when using an official rom update (clearly this isn't true with custom roms as they work on any HD). Try flashing one of the older Orange roms - 1.14 or 1.19. For my part my Orange phone came with the 1.19 Orange rom installed and had no Orange crap on it at all, it was identical to a generic rom. I did use the Orange 1.59 update but I don't remember seeing any Orange crap on that rom either, though I only used it for 10 minutes maximum as all I was after was a clean install of a custom rom.
By the looks of things you already know this but at the bottom of the first HSPL post there are instructions for flashing back the stock spl and roms http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=431217
