I've searched the threads and haven't found anything like this.
All of my contacts in the phone sync up correctly with Google. No problems there.
What is odd however is that if there are multiple numbers stored under a single name, if a call comes in that is not the first number in the list, the contact name is not shown on the screen, only the number.
Example:
Name: First Last
Home: 333-555-1212
Mobile: 333-999-2121
If a call comes in from the home number, the contact name is shown on the screen.
If the call comes in from the mobile number, only the number is shown and the contact name is never displayed.
This has been happening from day one, long before rooting and installing custom roms and it continues to occur no matter what rom I have running.
I've tried deleting and recreating the contacts, but this does not help.
Has anyone else experienced this and is there possibly a fix? It's a minor problem, but kind of annoying.

Interesting problem this, it seems to have just started to happen out of the blue a few days ago.
The problem, in a nutshell, is that whatever I try to do, be it recreate the entries in the Address Book, create a duplicate entry with the same name, use the O2 Plus feature which lets you save a contact to your address book and make a new entry like that... Whatever I do, whenever I receive a new text message, the person's name isn't shown as the sender, just their mobile number in international format.
Even if I have that contact in my phone already, with their number in the same format as is shown on the text message (+447...), their name doesn't show at all. It's really starting to annoy me, as I've not added or removed anything to my XDA and yet this problem isn't going away.
Argh! Anybody have any ideas as to what's wrong? I might ring O2's oddly-named Data Support and quiz them about this tomorrow, too...
Cheers again everyone,
Christopher
When you search the forum for "CallerID" you'll find a few people asking about the same problem, mainly when receiving calls however not SMS' and some suggestions.
Do you have photos attached to your contacts? I'd try reinstalling the CallerID_Alpine_... from your Extended_Rom, if all fails it might be easiest to restore a backup (if you got one that is).

I did some further testing today, borrowed a mate's phone and rang mine... Bizarre, the first time my phone was rung, it would take approx. 30 seconds for the name of the caller to show, the number showed up fine though. Subsequent dials would result in the name showing up almost instantly (as usual)...
.... Veeeeeeery odd. I'll just dash off and try reinstalling this CallerID cab...
I had this problem ages ago with my c500 and fixed it but cannot fix it with my diamond.
When a person calls - their name (and pic) appears as the person calling. Yet for 1 number only (it happens to be my gf) it comes up as the number only - and once the call is over it says 'number is not in contacts - would you like to add it'
I thought the fix would be to have both style of numbers (with +44 and without) in the various contact fields but to no joy.
It's annoying in the fact that it works for every other contact just not her! (maybe it's a sign!)
Any clues?
Long shot
Try this.. (assuming that you sync your phone with outlook)
Delete the contact from the diamond.
Edit the contact in Outlook with the contact numbers and assign a pic in Outlook itself.
Sync
See if this works.
I've tried it - still no joy. I've checked to see if any other number exists in the phone/outlook that is too similar but I can't see one. I'd read somewhere that it uses the first 7 digits for caller id - and that number is relatively unique.
hmmm
While we are trying stuff out
Delete the contact from the diamond, anyway. In the call list / history.. you should have the a received call from your gf's number.
Save it from there. Then assign a pic.
Let's see if that works.
Hi all,
I bought the Touch Diamond2, and have noticed this really annoying problem.
I have a list of contacts (that their names were modified in Outlook 2007, and then transferred to my phone), that whenever they call I can see their number but not the name associated to them (above the number it displays: "(unknown number)"). If I choose to add the number to their name (which is already there - it just asks me to update it), then their name appears if they call. After I add it, it seems like the same exact number - no change at all.
Another thing is, if I enter a number manually that is already stored in my contacts, it doesn't show the name of this contact. If I select the number from my contact page, it does show the name and picture as it should.
Am I the only one experiencing this? Is there a setting in the device i'm missing?
Please help,
Thanks
Hello!
I also have the same problem, because of the indicative of the country, already send an email for the HTC, to try to decide the problem. I am waiting a reply of them.

Hey
I recently bought a HTC TD2. I have one major problem though. When someone calls/sends a sms the phone only displays the number not the name, even though the contacts are saved to the phone.
It happens with at least 7 different contacts.
(I've searched but can't find a solution that has actually been successful)
Could anyone provide some assistance?
Thank you
im having the same issue on my compact V. The numbers are stored in the SIM and in the contacts but it still fails to recognise.
Forget it man, I have the same problem and did everything possible to solve but couldn't. I changed the caller ID match values, the contacts memory, contacts format, and deleted the contact and recreated it again with no hope....now I'm waiting the technical support of HTC
Same issue here... Hard reset solved problem...
I'm having same issue for some of my contacts.
Yes hard reset and add the contact one-by-one solved the problem, but it happened again when I restored all the contact lists from my backup, even the backup was created (I think) before this problem happened.
So maybe something with the list of my contact, either they were not saved in the same format or they were inconsistently saved with only <firstname>, only <lastname> or <firstname lastname>.
Still investigating.... I've tried to increase my registry key "CallIDMatch" from 8 to 12 and will see...
Had the same issue. HTC tech support didn't know how to fix this, so the last resort was hard reset... and it fixed it.
Try one of two things -
(a) Check if you have multiple entries, I had discovered that multiple entries (of numbers and not names) had caused this before;
(b) Check to see if the mobile number is stored under "Mobile" and not some other entry. It does appear that entering the mobile number and storing it under "Work", for example, might cause this.
I just got my Razr i and I have a problem with contact names not showing in recent calls list.
When the Dialer displays the recent calls list, I see only numbers, no contact names, but when I am actually calling (typing a number) I do get the contact name.
All my contacts are from Google Contacts.
I tried installing Dialer One app and it acts the same.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Avner.
Edit: Same thing happens in the SMS app; I see the contact number, not the contact name associated with it.
Hi there, does this problem was solved?

Hi, is it really ALL contact names that show as numbers or just a couple? I had the issue with my girlfriends number for some reason it wouldn't show the name..
I read on another forum to just delete it and re-add it in the absolute same way as before.. and voila, worked.
Maybe try one number first, and see if that helps... if so, you may have a weird formatting in your contacts numbers...
good luck, Stefan
