SNesoid problem - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had had various Eclair ROMs for some time but recently I tried some Donut ones and I'm more happy with speed etc. The problem is SNesoid stopped working. It won't run on the latest Cyanogen, SuperD Ram Hack or non Ram Hack. When I try to run a game it looks like it's starting, the screen goes black for a few seconds and then it goes back to the main ROM selection screen. Game ROMs are fine as I played them without any problems before.
Some more info - the same thing happens on Game Boy Advance emulator from the same author but Game Boy Color emulator works fine. I've searched and couldn't find anybody else having this problem, some people even recommend Dount ROMs for emulators.
I can't really think of anything. All ROMs I have tried were installed after a full wipe. I have 96MB swap as far as I remember and about half a gig EXT3. Am I missing something obvious here?
thanks

It's been solved now so I post it here in case somebody comes across the same problem. Author's response:
Yep, it has this problem on some hacked Donut ROMs. You can 'fix' it by turning off the virtual keypad.

You don't use virtual keypad on the G1 anyway but it's turned on by default. Also I have found out it works fine on Dwang Dount ROM.

PocketSNES WM5 on the Tilt

First I'm sorry if there is something out there to help me with this that I over looked, but after weeks of going through several forums for various issues I am going to ask for help.
I've put PocketSNES 2.00 on my tilt along with a few roms. The roms are on the Tilt and PocketSNES is on my storage card. (I've tried to put it on the phone but when I run it I get, "the file POCKETSNES cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of it's components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring the file")
I've also installed tgetfile.ppc.arm.cab which I read somewhere that it was needed.
Well when I open the app then load the rom it takes its time to open. When it opens it runs extremely choppy. I would say it refreshs the screen every 20 to 30 seconds. I've fiddled with every setting I can, yet still super slow performance.
What am I doing wrong?
running it from a storage card i guess
there is something floating about on how to disable that security thing that will prolly let you install it on the main memory and that might just fix your issue
I cannot get the GBA emmy to run properly either - rather the buttons don't seem to do jack ****.
You can use SK Tools to get rid of that message or just find it in the registry yourself.
Ive been playing with nops pocket snes for the last few days with similar results. Very choppy, pretty much unplayable. One thing to remember is that you cant use the screen for controller buttons. Whenever you touch and hold it slows down to almost a stop. I use the keyboard for buttons.
I found it in the registry but it was already disabled. I'm pretty sure it was
hklm/security/certmod/allowuntrustedapps set to 1
There was another mention of changing 000101a in another folder but it was set to 1 as well.
Are you sure this SKTools will work on the Kaiser/Tilt. I tried it and it said that it was disabled. Lastly I found that the kaisertweak app had the option set to disable the error. Grrr
I just tried running it and the roms from main storage, still no good.
snes
I have pocket snes it runs perfect with no sound also have pocketnester(nes) pocketgnuboy(gameboy) and they all work perfect and you can sound working great too except on the snes. I have them all on my card 4gb sandisk and the roms are on the card as well. I have the tytn 2 stock rom with your basic tweaks. took them off my wizards memory card and just continued to play where I left off. also have pocketgba but its far from perfect and slow. u can probally google them. if u need more help just send me a pm if you need help with settings etc. also on the snes u can play perfect with no sound and run ur mp3s so its the emu that can't handle sound not the phone.
Sounds like another reason to go to the htc rom.
Yeah, I play with no sound, but that sux. I'm using the helmi rom, but also tried it with the HTC rom. I also have pocket nester working great.
I saw a method involving certifying the app but I think that might be beyond my scope.

Bad news the @ssholes at HTC still haven't managed to fix this problem - this has been a problem with ALL their 2.8" devices for TWO YEARS!!
Guys, I *really* hope you've been closely following my emulation-related Bibles in the General forum. If you don't want to search them one by one, you can find them all at http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&cat=353
You might also want to give a try to alternative emulators to find out whether they're any good.

I actually did read most of them, thats how I got into pocket Doom. I have Wolf3D, doom, and these emulators.

Gameboid problem?

Hey, I'm loving my MTS so far, really nice phone. I downloaded most of yongzh's emulators, and it's working great
Problem is, on Gameboid, the emulator seemingly randomly stops and takes me back to the ROM selection screen(or sometimes just resets game). I've tried 2 different GBA bios images. This happens on just about every game I've tried.
Anyone else experience this? Any solutions?

Sorry to here that pal, seems to be working fine for me,i play it all the time, hope they make a game grip for it.
i actually cant even play a game. with gameboid, snesoid and gensoid none of them save my settings(so gameboid can never find the bios file). I e-mailed the dev about it. i think hes looking into it.
Thanks for the replies
And when I set the location of the GBA bios image, it saves that setting fine. The emulation itself is excellent- I was surprised how good it was, actually- except it just randomly stops(doesn't force close- takes me back to ROM selection screen). Even weirder, when this happens it pops up the "Gameboid is running" notification as if I had left the emulator running and went to the home screen. The Nesoid and Snesoid emulators do not have this issue, which baffles me all the more.
Funny you should mention settings not saving, though. My Random Ringtones app will not save the ringtones I have selected in my playlist. After I put a check mark in all of them, when I go back later the check boxes are all cleared. This problem's not as important to me as Gameboid though. I hope it gets fixed
This is not a MTS issue, when i was on my G1 it took me like 4 tries to get the Bios to work correctly. I'm thinking its just an issue on the app itself.
I just tried it on my G1 and I'm having the exact same problem(emulation exiting randomly back to ROM selection screen) >.>
So Jerzeeloon and mylostlonelysoul, since you guys have had success getting this to work correctly, think one of you could PM me?
I have the same problem of randomly returning to the ROM selection menu.
If you like at the Gameboid app in the Marketplace the developer put a note saying "NOTE: I am trying to fix the crash on HTC Legend and MyTouch Slide!"
He's updated and the issue is, indeed, resolved! I've been playing Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance for the past week and enjoying it immensely. This emulator can go full speed on the Slide almost with no frame skip! Lovin in

Eclair and FroYo ROMs - need recommendations

I'm having some issues with my G1 with 3G and data connectivity in general. I'm not posting to ask for help on fixing that, although I won't object to help, I'm posting to ask for two ROMs for both Eclair and FroYo. I need to discount CyanogenMod since those are the main ones I run and it happens in both to a degree and my troubleshooting will be better if I know it isn't a ROM specific issue.
I'm aware that there are known issues (with no fix) that others have with both Eclair and FroYo releases of CM right now but it seems different and I want to be sure that it isn't my phone. The reason I'm posting to ask for recommendations is that I'm sure a lot of people are aware there are a lot of ROMs floating around that are little besides blatant rips of other people's work. I want to avoid that since it won't help at all and if it is a rip of someone elses work it will give the same results.
i tried like 6 or 7 Froyo releases the last month
for me the best 2 are:
Froyo Redux (CM 6)
SpeedTeam Froyo
in Speedteam: i got a problem with the market. downloading stopped working after a day of use with it. besides that, its really nice and fast!
biffmod it had FC's every 10 seconds with the "ime_input" blabla, fu**ed me off, so i deinstalled. couldn't really test it.
froyo redux: it begins lagging after a while of use, but i used it the most until now! like for a week or so! it reacts fast when getting a call, looks nice (install launcherpro for more speed in launcher/homescreen) menu's go really fast and it loads really fast too! For me the best Froyo by now!
chromatic : the style was to dark
SuperFast/stupid Fast: after install i had many FC's -> Deinstalled
Super-F : works fine the most but has problems with some files and cant play mp3 files !! WTF ??
Hope i could help u a little

Try: Htcclay Superfly d/s v1.1 - Froyo 2.2
http://androidspin.com/2010/08/07/rom-htcclay-superfly-tcby-v1-1-for-dream-g1/
Absolutely love this one. Market slow on this one but that seems to be on all of the 2.2's.
Thanks for the replies I've given Chromatic a try while I waited for replies and it seems to be the most reliable for 3G that I'd tried to that point. I switched out to Cannon's Eclair as well and that seemed to be good too. Chromatic seemed a little sluggish but no more than other FroYo ROMs. The main sluggish thing that I can't stand is text entry using the virtual keyboard. That seems to be a constant across all FroYo ROMs so far.
tranceonline, you saved me a lot of flashing with that summary so yes you did help I'm going to have a look at FroYo Redux in a little while.
crz6662, testing out the one you recommended now and it seems about the same as most FroYo ROMs, do you notice any stuttering when using the virtual keyboard? It seems to be a bit on / off like it will work for the first letter or two, freeze while you're pressing keys and then a second later you'll see all the keys appear. I can't stand it >_< I don't know if it's the ROMs, the keyboard IME or a combination of both.

Can't say I've noticed but I usually use the keyboard anyway since it's a bit faster for me. You could download couple of the other on screen keyboards out there and see if it's the same.Try this one: attached Handcent. If it works on Froyo. Noticed a screen flicker on CM 6.0.0 though. Might just be my phone.?
I've learned a couple of things today, playing again.
Main reason I rooted/flashed was for apps2sd. Don't put upfront tasks, ie: Homescreen launchers, on-going service apps, mail, messaging, etc. on the SD, leave them on internal memory.
I was putting everything on the SD and it took forever to reload home screen coming out of an app and returning home. Don't ask about rebooting. It took forever to load the widgets and get up and running. Got to thinking about the slower speed of the SD versus the phone. So after installing approx 150 apps I said screw it, wiped everything, and reformatted the card.
Dropped swap to 32MB, ext2 512, & fat32.
Now I'm being careful what gets put to the card. Homescreen now boots and loads much better from the phone. Was reading about partitioning and in some cases larger swap slows up the phone considerably so they say. Why the 1 ROM I did suggested 96MB for swap is beyond me. Just don't run a "bunch" of apps at the same time and you won't need much swap. Some have suggested eliminating it altogether. Don't know bout that.
Much snappier performance now. Boots up fast and 3G is no problem.
Might hold off loading apps and try that Froyo Redux 1st. Haven't seen that one.
Later. Learn by doing

[Q] Why did cyan's Roms run horribly for me?

Just absolutely the worst rom I've ever had on my phone, and I've ran Pulse roms and half built sense UI roms.
I wiped my phone and cleared the partitions but it was always the slowest thing in the world.
The wifi never stayed connected
Gps never ever ever worked
after an amount of time using the rom
it would suddenly not accept incoming text messages
Tons of bogus **** like that.
Anyone else have this problem? I'm currently on speed team Eclair and it's working marvelous, just like the htc clay / fast test 1.6 roms with the 10MB hack.
(mind you these were his new releases, not so much his every day nightlies, but his stable and unstable ones)

Its the kitchen sink problem.... which has two forms;
1) The more bloated big crap you throw down the kitchen sink, the more plugged up it becomes.
2) If you throw in even the kitchen sink, then you've gone WAY too far (related to the phrase "everything but the kitchen sink", which is to say you've packed too much useless crap).
In other words, it is a big fat pig. Just picture yourself a 350 pound fat woman waddling down the street. There's CM ROM for you. Moves just as fast.
Funny you should say that SpeedTeam Eclair is actually themed/botched/molested CM5 (which ran like crap for me ).
I'd suggest trying a straight-up AOSP Froyo ROM which does not use CM kernel.
I also am having many issues with Cyan's roms these days. I'm not even running Froyo, I'm running CM5. Random stuff will happen a while after wiping/flashing. Last time all my Google apps would just force close no matter what I did. This time the Market stopped working. Logs say it ran out of memory and was killed. I killed all non-essential services (which only give me 20-25mb of memory) and cleared app data for market, cleared caches in recovery. I'm just getting fed up with it.
I want a new phone so I can get some stable-ness back in my life, but Tmobile isn't releasing many cool phones like the others (Tmobile's Galaxy S design was disappointing).
Can anyone suggest another rom to run on my EOL G1 until something good comes out? =\

Yep. I'm running CM6 and it is super slow and unresponsive, constantly crashes, no apps2sd so it runs out of space immediately and won't accept incoming text messages, apps won't install or update, background notifications don't work in any app? etc. Swap makes the phone run so much better, but Cyanogen says "Don't use swap" with no explanation. I don't understand why this 3D gallery is installed by default when it can barely crawl along on this processor. Did they even test it on a Dream?
Man I have had nothing but problems. Now the browser won't connect to the web, but Gmail still updates. I can't install anything in the Market, it just says "Download paused". etc etc etc. I tried uninstalling so I could reinstall, but that doesn't work. So now I don't have Titanium Backup because I uninstalled it and can't reinstall it. >:[

[Q] Nookiefroyo on eMMc 6.6, web fields type slowly?

Tried out the new nookie froyo and overrall it runs great. Lower quadrants but not really a big deal.
For some reason when I use a browser and start typing in a field (for instance a password field for my colleges website), it lags incredibly slow. Its almost as if the keyboard is lagging, but this isnt a problem in other fields, such as the URL.
Such a big problem I had to uninstall back to eclair.
Installed with Iomonsters, clockwork from the market, used stock kernel, OC kernel, nothing made a difference. Disabling haptic feedback made a small help, but still unusable.
Anyone else getting this problem?

You know, I really have no idea why this happens, but I had a similar experience. The first few hours I was running Froyo 0.6.6 it was kinda slow and laggy. But after a few reboots and couple of hours of running it was extremely fast. So all I can suggest is try putting up with it for a day or so and rebooting it every couple of hours. For me it runs extremely smoothly and much faster than eclair now.
Going to try. Ugh why cant I just leave this thing alone.
Just keep using it, it will speed up after a few reboota
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
I am about 12 hours in and at least 6 reboots now and still the problem is unresolved. Seems to be exasperated on webpages with large images in the background.
All in all I think .59 felt alot more stable then 6.6 and 6.7. Think I will either go back to eclair or try Honeycomb till a better froyo comes out.
edit: if any of you other guys wants to try, goto atlas.valenciacc.edu while viewing a full webpage. Both stock browser, skyfire, and dolphin hd share the problem. I cant easily type in the UN and PW fields.
