how fdo i remove the 3 inputs that are usually cooked into the rom the ones with the arrows
1. First, set the default input method to something other than HTC Keyboard or HTC Keypad (search these forums for reg hack or "defaultIM.exe");
2. Search the device's registry for "issip" (short for "issipinputmethod");
3. At each found "1", go up to the parent key and identify the input method;
4. When you find each of "HTC Keyboard" and "HTC Keypad" input method, go up to its parent key (the long numeric string) and *delete that whole key* (for safety, export it first so you'll have a backup);
5. Now go into HKLM\Software and *delete*the whole "Tegis" key.
6. Soft reset.

I made a write-up on the Wing's hidden shortcut keys.
A few weeks ago while I was typing up my on-site notes at work, on my T-Mobile Wing the device threw me a tilde (~). This confused me because this device doesn't have a tilde key and I wasn't working in the symbol keypad. About two weeks later I was able to get the device to type another symbol that isn't shown on the keyboard, thankfully I was texting and not at work, so after a few minutes of experimenting I was able to chart all of the alternate keys that are available on the Wing.
So what is the T-Mobile Wing? The Wing is a Windows Mobile 6 Professional smartphone that has a sliding keyboard, WIFI, bluetooth, and Microsoft Voice command built in. Voice command lets you perform certain tasks by voice without a training session like most phones with voice control require. Price was $299 at launch.
Chart of alt keys and instructions after the jump.
Pressing the alt key on the left of the chart (shown in blue on the keypad) while still holding alt and then pressing the space bar will give you the symbol on the right of the chart, pressing space multiple times while still holding alt will give you the other symbols on the chart. The number keys and the other keys not listed don't respond to this function.

Obviously a few of these keys just duplicate existing functionality, but some of them are very useful and if you use some of these symbols regularly they can save you loads of time using alternate methods to get these symbols.
I am a manual reader and didn't see this information listed in the manual. (I just double checked to be sure). This information is not in the manual.
Pressing alt tab brings up a useful symbol panel. This symbol panel is similar to the charmap function of a windows computer, and contains several pages of symbols that you can insert into your text.
Update:
Thanks to blackout203 @ XDA Developers, while they were trying this out they found out about the multiple keypresses.
actually this is a nice find but I just found something from learning yours
if you press the space key more than once, you can get even more symbols! try it out
i got << and >> on the " key
Thanks, I've updated the article and the posting.
btw - on wizard devices you could choose the ranking of the symbols by editing the sym.txt. DOn´t even know if herald alos has a sym.txt. But perhaps someone could give it a try.
lol
sym.0409.txt
yes, the "sym" file is present in herald too. the name of the file is "sym.0409.txt" for WWE version (T-Mobile Wing)
Nice, but I want the space character when entering numbers
So that explains why when I am entering phone numbers and addresses and I want to put in spaces, the space key doesn't work! I've found this incredibly frustrating because i have to double-press the ALT key to get in in ALT mode, type a bunch of numbers, press the ALT key to get out of ALT mode, press the space bar, double-press the ALT key to get back into ALT mode, then continue on with the numbers.
Do you know if there is a way to get the space key to put in a space while in ALT mode??
i found the sym.tct file on my herald in the folder /windows.
However i can't edit it since the file is located in the ROM memory.
how can I change the properties of the file such that I can edit it?
I already tried setting the permissions through total commander, but that doesn;t work I can't remove the read-only setting

try to rename or copy it and edit the copy - then copy back. somehow it worked.
hope
I'm wondering if there's a way to assign the HTC End Key (as oppose to the softkey) to the HANG UP key (or end key) physical/hardware button?
HTC End Key decided to install itself and overwrite my right softkey (default is contact, so I had to reg-modify that bit to return it to the default state).
why are you starting new thread? why you did not search and continue discussion where already started because if you did, you will know, that there is only one possiblity - use aebutton plus!
Hello,
I´ve found a solution for the accentuated letters with the AT&T Tilt.
When you run the "Tilt Keyboard Fix" CAB the keyboard is fixed ok, but you can not get the accentuated characters by pressing "Fn+Space".
You need the AE Keyboard Mapper (http://ae.inc.ru/aekmap.php) and the layout I´ve created (Spanish_AT&T_Tilt.aek).
Just install the Keyboard Mapper, copy the layout in the \Program Files\AEKMap subdirectory, run the program (AEKMap Settings) and load the layout. Check the "Run on startup" box and Save.
Now you will get the accentuated letters by pressing the windows button (between Fn and Sym) and the key of the letter you want to accentuate.
Win+e --> é
Win+E --> É
Win+n --> ñ
Win+N --> Ñ
I have changed the $ with the €, but you can edit the layout (Spanish_AT&T_Tilt.aek) and remove this remap line with any PLAIN text editor.
Sory to ask such a dumb question, but I have tried and tried and could not found the solution.
After upgrading to Panosha Light 5 rom, when I press the phone hard button I get a screen to dial, where the left soft key is programmed to "hide keypad" and get to "keypad" again.
I would like to have here instead of "keypad" a shorcut to "contacts".
Where can I change the left soft key?
Open registry editor and go to \HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila
Edit "HomeLSKPath" value and type in the EXACT location of the program you want to launch (includung capital letters) e.g "/Program Files/xx/xx/xx.exe"
Save the value.
Then edit "HomeLSKText" and type the title of the softkey eg "Contacts" or some other text that you want to show for your LEFT softkey
Save this value
Close registry editor
Soft reset phone
After soft reset, the LEFT softkey should now show new title and link to the program that was set in "HomeLSKPath"
Harder than I thought, hope it works. Thanks.
Well, after snooping around trying to find out how to change the kaiser's soft keys using registry only, I finally found the solution after peeking into PocketCM's registry!
Here's how to do it:
1. Using a registry editor (I prefer PHM RegEdit), navigate to the first left one, which is:
Code:
HKEY_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\112
You'll notice two strings there: "Default" and "Open" (no quotes).
"Default" is the name of the left soft key, so if you wanted the left soft key to say Internet Explorer, just change the value of of the string to say "Internet Explorer". "Open" is the path of the file you want to open when you click on the left soft key, and it has to be an .exe file! So, if you wanted the left soft key to open Internet Explorer, you would change the value of "Default" to say Internet Explorer instead of Calendar, and you would change "Open" to \windows\iexplore.exe. That's it!
Now, for changing the right soft key. The interesting thing is, that it seems you can only change the path of Contacts to open a different application, although some programs allow you to change the name, so it must be possible to change the name. Anyway, to change the path of the right soft key, open your Registry editor, then go to
Code:
HKey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSCONTACTS
now, edit the value of 1 to the path you want, and it must be an .exe!
That's it, let me know if I missed something!
Thank you so much!!!!!
It was the only way I could change the left soft key in the new V10 ROM by L26!
Not even SwopKeys was working.
The only thing missing is the name of the right softkey, can you tell me how to change it?
The other soft key is (on some devices)
Code:
HKEY_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\113

lol, thanks, I was trying 111 and 114 for some reason, good to know!
In my latest custom rom for myself this is the registry setting I made in my kitchen....works great...
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\113]
@="Contacts"
"Open"="\\windows\\iContact.exe"
This was placed in the rgu located in the OEM_Lang_409 folder.
Just some information...This rgu contains all the key settings so you can change them to what you would like while cooking
Any idea on how to change the left softkey while in phone mode from "Hide Keypad" to "Contacts"?
Perfect! I now have the Comm Manager available with one touch. Thank you!
