Is anyone having problems with getting Appbrain and the Fast Web Installer to work on their Captivates with Froyo? And yes, I have installed the Fast Web Install app and activated it on my Cappy. If I am on my PC and I try to install an app from the internet, I get this error message:
"Fast Web Install is not available for your phone due to a bug in the Android Operating System"
AlsoI noticed sometimes if I download something directly from the Android Market, it says it is downloading but it will not do anything. Other times, it works just fine so I'm kind of confused. Anyone else notice anything? I did not have any problems with Eclair.
Also, I wonder if it was something to do with the fact that I used Titanium Backup to restore apps + data. I did not however restore any of the system data, just the app data. I have already reinstalled both the Appbrain and Fast Web Install app.
Just to update: The problem I am also having is that something will download completely as well but it will not install. It shows that it is fully downloaded but won't install. Any suggestions?
I'm having problems with appbrain as well. I had 2.1 unmodified, did the 2.2 flash and can't send installs from the appbrain web site to my mobile.
Just encountered this problem with app brain as well. I also have occasional weird frozen installs from market, have to restart those. wonder if we missed something.
I had the market force close on me earlier when I was loading a bunch of applications. Not all at the same time either.
Problem with Fast Web Installer and Appbrain on FroyoArrow
Only issue I had was my app lists were not syncing after I updated to the new 2.2 leak. I had to delete my appbrain account online, uninstall the app from the phone. Then sign back up for a new appbrain account and reinstall the app. Seems to be ok now.
I have the same problem.
I try to delete the account and sign up again.
Deleted both application in the phone, and reinstall.
I can send text and url's to the phone just fine.
uninstall seems to work too.
But automatic instalation does not.
What could i try to solve this?
(yes its on froyo)
After reading extensively on the Cognition thread, I found out that the reason the Fast Web Installer does not work is that since we are running a leaked build of froyo, everyone has the same Android device ID.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8604909&postcount=3550
After following these steps, I was able to get Fast Web Installer to work. Hope that helps.
How did you install sqlite3 on the device?
Its not in mine..
Thanks howsleyd!
I ended up copying the db into my desktop and modifing it there.
I actually has a android_id code setted up. So i modified it and invented a new.
Now Fast install works fine.
Thanks!
Fast Web Installer not working for me either after 9.1
I downloaded Android ID Changer and changed a few numbers and changed it.... reboot and everything is good with Appbrain and the market
Hi all,
I'm on stock froyo, rooted phone.. did a factory reset and now wanting to restore my contacts synced with facebook via SNS.
I didn't want to run the entire backup operation batch because when I did, froyo was still lagging. I suspect it could be the application that is slowing it so I want to narrow it down by slowly restoring my applications. Anyone knows which file correspond to the facebook account SNS settings?
OK, so I have CM build #34 and Titanium Backup Pro installed on my Nexus One with all of my apps apps and settings backed up and synced to Dropbox. I also use ROM Manager Premium for handling my CM7 nighties.
I have tried different variations of wiping data and cache\installing Google Apps\restoring all apps and settings with Titanium Backup but I think I am doing something wrong as I usually end up having to enter login and password information on a lot of my apps (once I get them back on my phone).
If my plan is to update to the latest CM7 version every night, what are the proper steps to do so?
Here is what I think I should do:
1. Back up all apps and settings using Titanium Pro
2. Download latest CM7 version
3. When ROM Manager asks if I want to download Google Apps, I check YES
4. After the download is complete, ROM Manager asks if I would like to Backup Existing ROM (I leave unchecked) and Wipe Date and Cache (I only check this if I am having major issues with the CM7 nightie)
5. ROM loads, phone reboots
(Here is where I start getting really confused)
6. Google asks me to sign in. I skip the sign in
7. Join wireless
8. Restore all apps and settings from Titanium Backup
9. Google keeps on asking me to sign in with my Google account.
10 I sign in and usually have issues with Twitter, work email (Exchange), Facebook, etc. Some apps that I know I had installed and configured do not show up but when I go to the Market they show as Purchased and I have to re-download them. Later when I have Twitter and Facebook configured, if I go to Settings> Accounts and Sync, it only shows Gmail and my work email (no Facebook or Twitter). If I try adding Facebook and Twitter, it never goes to the sign in screen. I can back out and see and use Facebook and Twitter on my home screen though.
Questions:
If I am downloading only CM7 nighties, should I download and install Google Apps every night (why else would ROM Manager prompt me for it and include it with every CM7 nightie)?
When using Titanium Backup, should I still sign in to my Google account on my phone or just skip it and restore all settings, apps and data?
Can someone lay out an easy step-by-step best way to accomplish what I am attempting? I think this would help a lot of novice users who want to experience the awesome custom ROMs that are floating around.
Thank you all for your time and effort!
Going from one nightly to another, you do not need to wipe anything.

Then why do I have do I have to keep re-entering all types of logins after upgrading to a new CM7 nightie ?
You say not to wipe data and cache. What about the rest of my post? Any other advice?
Just flashover the top of what u got

You should try logging in to Google first before restoring your apps with Titanium Backup. Then reboot. Usually that will restore the list of apps that you installed in the Market.
If not, then clear your market data and cache and do a reboot again.
So I always should install Google Apps every time I get prompted by ROM Manager just before I start installing a nightie? Then just flash the new CM7 version without wiping Data and Cache?
I didn't say anything about flashing gapps again, just flash the newer nightly over your old nightly.

OK, tried what you said (not flashing gapps) and just flashed to the newest CM7 nightie. I also did not delete Data and Cache. Now the Market, Talk, Car Home, Voice (looks like all the Google apps) do not work. I'm getting pop ups stating that I need to sign in to my Google account but when I go to Settings>Accounts and Sync, There is no option for me to add my Google credentials. I see nothing except corporate email and FaceBook (no Twitter Either---and I have that installed).
That is why I was asking earlier if I should get the gapps every time I flash to a new nightly build. Every time I don't download Google Apps along with the CM7 nightie, I always loose a ton of settings and functionality along with not having access to all of my Google Apps.
Btw, I did a full restore of Titanium Backup Pro (all apps and data) after I flashed to the new CM7 nightie b/c of the problem stated earlier in this post.
Any thoughts?
I have no idea what is going wrong then.
Every few days I download the nightly, flash it without any wipes right over top of my current system, and use my phone. All settings stay working, I haven't flashed gapps for a long while now.
It is pretty much a one step process for me. It sounds like there is some sort of strange wiping going on for you though.
I had this issue when I used ROM Manager to download the ROM.
Here's what to do, just download the nightly from this link,
http://mirror1.kanged.net/nightly/passion/
Then use ROM Manager to install from zip, don't wipe or clear anything.
This will let you flash it over with no issues.
Ah, that could very well be it. I am always downloading it manually and flashing from it manually in Rom Manager.

Yeah I do not know why it is doing this. But oh well lol.

after you flash the new nightly build on top of your current, are you restoring anything via Titanium?
When restoring system data, i found that the order in which its restored makes the difference between things working and not.
I had a similar problem a while back... after a complete wipe and fresh install of CM + Gapps i used TB to restore everything including system app data. after the restore, everything looked OK. If i was to check settings/accounts & sync, everything was there correctly. But when I tried to run a system app, I'd have nothing but problems..(G-Talk & Latitude wouldnt log in, Market was jerked, Gmail would FC...FB and twitter would keep asking for my password..etc). The way I got it to work was to wipe all system data, then in a logical order, restore it again one app at a time with a reboot between each restore.
Its alot easier to just manually enter all account info. Then use TB (if needed) to restore things like FB, Twitter, Wifi & BT settings.
Not sure if this is what you were looking for, but typing this made the bus ride home alot quicker.

HI there
i recently restored my phone after flashing a different rom. everything went well and i restored almost everything using titanium backup. i clicked for "install missing apps and data" but unfortunately i could not restore my phone contacts. my contacts are also not synced with gmail. please help?
Did you click on the button in the top middle to bring up the list of programs, and restore contacts then reboot?(assuming you backed it up of course). Cause all it sounds like you did was that batch restore of MISSING apps. The contacts.apk was included so it didn't get restored.
i'm curious about this too. I dont need to restore my contacts but I've installed custom roms for a few friends who didnt have their contacts sync'd with gmail and after restoring what I thought was the contacts, it didnt actually restore.
so I've had this problem before, too. I'm curious to hear from someone who successfully restored phone contacts from TiBu.
Always sync your contacts with Google
I never used TiBu for contacts or calendar entries.

this is what I tell my friends before I install a custom rom lol
Not sure if this thread is dead or not but I just flashed my brother's phone and used TiBu to restore missing apps + data. For contacts I tried restoring [Contacts/Calls] Storage 2.2, rebooted and still nothing. I dont know what else can I do now. Is there any way I can pull the information out manually from TiBu backup files? I opened com.android.providers.contacts-20110625-144656.tar.gz and noticed the raw data is in the files. Any ideas would be helpful....
Thanks!

Did he sync contacts with his Google account? If so sign into Gmail from the phone and sync. I use the Backup with Gmail from the market to backup calls and texts too. All of my call history, contacts, and texts are synching with my Gmail, works great.

Restart the phone after restoring apps and system data.
When it comes to backing up my contact list I'm Old School. I still do it the same way I did on my Palm OS device. Export to a vCard file (*.vcf). Since android still has that feature I occasionally make a backup of my contacts as a *.vcf and copy it to my SD card, PC or dropbox. However, after reading this post I gave it a try and successfully restored my contacts, txt messages, call logs etc with TiBu. After a restore (I was able to confirm that the 'Restore missing apps + all system data' batch restore will restore your contacts etc. However they don't show in your contact list after a restore. You can try to force close the Contacts and Contact storage from the 'Manage Applications' -> 'Running' screen, and when you restart your contacts after that they should appear. However tried and true method is the simplest.
=> Do a Re-boot.
I tried it successfully four times and doing a restart of the phone worked the best, smoothest and easiest. Then all my contacts were successfully restored.
I performed this on a I897 running FireFly 3.0.2.2 (Froyo based ROM) I used the latest version of TiBu 3.9.0.1 free version and made sure that busybox was updated to 1.18.4
If you're worried about TiBu not working, exporting your contacts to a *.vcf file does give you a nice file that you can then import natively into Android and most other mobile OS. (I've personally verified that *.vcf works on Pantech and Lg messaging phones, Palm OS, Windows Mobile, Blackberry, Thunderbird, Outlook)

Yea, don't use TiBU to restore any system apps like contacts or messaging ESPECIALLY when changing roms/android os versions.
I would recommend backing up ur contacts to your google account. Also, see if u can find a .vcf file in your TiBU backup
Hey long time lurker, so heres the rundown.
I just updated my N1 from Cyanogenmod 7.1 RC1 to 7.1 Final by doing a fresh install and wiping 'errthing and then restoring using Titanium Backup. However I keep getting a popup that says "Google Talk authentication failed" that won't go away and does not allow me to use the Google Market.
I tried to go into the "talk" app via my app drawer but it just ends up hanging on the sign in. Normally I don't ever use Google Talk or Google Voice but I tried setting up my Voice account to counteract this but still nothing helped.
Should I restore to 7.1 RC1 and just update (without wiping anything) and see how that turns out or can I somehow patch it up?
Thanks!
I would try deleting data from Talk, Gmail, Market, and Google Services Framework first...
Perhaps even fix permissions from within ROM Manager...
I actually ended up re-installing the ROM from scratch and instead of linking it to my Google account right away I simply restored all my apps +data (didn't restore data on Google apps) and rebooted.
After that I added my Google account to the phone and everything just worked.
Thanks for the advice though, that's probably what I could have done and not needed to re-instal.
Just encountered this problem and fixed it by using Titanium Backup (I use pro edition) as follows:
1)Open TB and hit the menu button
2) click the Market tools button
3) select Market Doctor
4) select user and system apps
let it run through and market works again and no more google talk error messages.
Didn't have to wipe/reset anything!
Gotta love TB!
