What's going on with contacts sync on Froyo? Not like I need it but why isn't it working?

It does work on Froyo but it really doesn't like being set up.
When I updated to Froyo and wiped (I had to do 4 wipes in about 10 days due to getting a market issue), I found it very difficult to switch on.
I tried various combinations of setting Twitter up through the app and / or through the Accounts and Sync settings, and eventually got it to switch on (I think through Accounts and Sync in the end).
Mine wasn't working, then it randomly started syncing again.
I also have problem with the official Twitter app. It doesn't refresh on its own anymore. I have to do it manually. It was working fine before Froyo. Do you guys have the same problem or is it just my phone?

Basically, I get a notification of new mail on my phone before my web Gmail, which is normal. But when I read or delete an email from my phone, it doesn't sync properly with the normal Gmail client, because those emails are still unread.
I have a possible theory as to why this might be happening: From what I can remember, it seems like on FroyoMOD it was working fine, but any Gingerbread ROM I've been having this issue. Is it possible that because GB isn't really made for our phones, or the Gapps for GB are causing some sort of issue?
Thanks!
Having same issues. Gmail is not the only one having sync issues. In mine cm7 rc12 gb rom, even other apps such as yahoo mail, what's app, Google +, huddle are not notifying me anything even when I hv the background sync option on!

I think there might be something in build.prop that changes the sync. It is not always going to get everything right away as it only syncs every so often.

Anyone else having this issue?
When I first setup my phone I enabled auto sync for gmail. It was working fine up until a few days ago when I realized I was not getting my emails. I have to go in an manually refresh to get any emails. Anyone have a fix for this?
I am a total noob to this forum (yes I watched the video), and have not been able to find a thread addressing this. I found a few posted last year about similar problems on other devices, but none for the Droid 3. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Go to the home screen, click the menu button, click Settings, click Accounts, click your Gmail account, make sure Gmail is checked. The Phantom of Android sometimes unchecks things on it's own, don't ask me why, but see if this helps.

Thanks for the response. I tried that, but I still have to manually sync to get my emails. I tried unchecking and rechecking every option for sync and nothing seems to work. Do you think it has anything to do with maildroid? I also use maildroid for my business email, and was wandering if that could possibly interfere with gmail? This is very frustrating.

Bump
Same things been happening to mine.
For like a week now

Clear data and cache from Gmail app. Then login to Gmail on pc and make sure all your emails are good. Ensure there is nothing in the outbox and then just wait for your Gmail to sync. You may see emails in your inbox that you have deleted. Delete those as well.
Edit : there is also some other trick to this it seems like. I don't remember what it is. You could see if you can find it searching the cdma hero threads. I was having the problem the other day and tried just clearing data/cache in Gmail and it wouldn't work so I had to do all of the above to get it back normal.

If you have items stuck in your Gmail in web that aren't synced right it could keep it happening. I encountered this last week and had to do a bit of manually deleting on web to get it back to normal. Until I did it all before my phone synced back it wouldn't work. It's a pretty common problem though. I have seen it at least a dozen times over 2 years with multiple roms and phones. Make sure you delete anything in your phone waiting to send too before you clear data & cache. If that all isn't working I'm not sure. It's always ended up fixing it for me.

that seemed to have worked....for now....thanks...

My work around is to save as a draft and then when I get to a computer, I open the draft and send it. *Or* in a pinch I open the browser and send the draft that way.
I wqas having the same problem the last few days. I just went into applications > gmail > uninstall updates. That seemed to fix my problem.
Hello everyone,
I have a big problem. My gmail app doesnt work correctly anymore. I pre-installed it some times but it doesnt fix the problem. I used 2 or 3 apks but all of them have the almost same version. As i said it did work but not anymore.
Using rom: stocklite 7.1
Gmail version: 2.3.5.2
Problem: if im getting a mail it doesnt show me that. It only says no conversation or something like that. The only way im sometimes able to check up the email is the point in the settings important mails.

Hmmm. Do have priority inbox set up? Have you checked Gmail is set to sync (in settings > accounts and sync > tap on Google account and set Gmail to auto sync)? If you are going to try uninstall it in order to reinstall don't forget to wipe the app data. Try a different app like k9 and if the problem persists you can be sure the problem is with your account and not the Gmail app itself. I hope this helps as I'm not exactly certain I completely understand the problem. Sorry

So I installed the Google Play edition ROM, from bigxie. And since I can't post in that forum with less than 10 posts, I have to ask here.
I'm unable to get my Facebook contacts to sync into my phone. I've tried removing the account, and even reinstalling Facebook. I was wondering if anyone else was having this issue.

use haxsync
I'd kinda like to get the phone working the way it's supposed to work rather than downloading an app for it.
Facebooks contacts, at least for me, have never synced with vanilla android. Only way is to use a third party app.

As notown said above, you have to use an asp to sync contacts. Haxsync is my app of choice

FB & Google haven't played well together (on purpose) since either 2.3 or 4. Haxsync works perfectly to get around the contact sync issue.
So yeah, you're not "using an app to get the phone to work correctly", you're using an app to fix Facebook being a bunch of jackasses. It's "working correctly" by not syncing in the first place.
Oh alright. I just figured since they synced in Sense they would sync without it.
