Sprite lost my PIM data after ROM upgrade - Touch Diamond2, Pure Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Was using the Sprite backup and restore off the HTC download Asia site to back up my data and restore whilst doing the ROM upgrade 6.1 to 6.5.
Sprite restore says restore completed, but my contacts list is empty! How can I recover? I have a backup.exe file on my PC Sprite made, that presumably has all the contacts in it?
HTC says I may need to do a ROM downgrade back to Asia 6.1, but where can I find this ROM, other than going to HTC service center which isn't convenient?
Suffice to say, not impressed with Sprite so far!

Hard reset, and try to reinstall.
As long as your version of Sprite is compatible with your ROM version, you should not need to revert to 6.1.
I suggest using M$ My Phone for PIM backup and restoral.

Yes, I'm not sure if Sprite backup even does PIM backup?
I used the Sprite Explorer of the back up file on my PC and all I can see is the old phones data, but no PIM (most importnatly the phone numbers of all my contacts!).

Use Spb Backup or PIM Backup.

Can I import my contacts from backup?

I just upgraded to the iMate ROM from the original cingular rom on my 8125. I backed up everything using aWizard before flashing it. Is there a way I can import my contacts from backup or do I have to go through and re-add all of them?
Thanks!

Don't know about aWizard, but did you sync your contacts with Outlook on your PC? Then you can sync them back on your PPC.
Next time try Sprite Backup, it allows you to backup/restore all aspects of your data separately.
Cheers, M
No I didn't. I really don't use outlook. I was thinking that maybe they were somewhere in the backup data pulled from aWizard.
Thanks for the info though!

The contacts database must be in there, but I don't know how to get it out.
Consider doing a hard-reset, after the restored the backup to clean your device again.
So restore the backup, save the contacts with sprite or outlook sync. Then hard-reset to get rid of unwanted old rom items. Restore contacts with sprite or outlook sync.
Hope it helps, M
aWizard does not backup user data in the RAM. It only backup your ROM. You won't get any luck from getting your contacts back from the aWizard backup.

Backup My Current Configuration

Hi guys
I installed the Q-Mobile 1.1 ROM on my TYTN II and configured it as I want to have it.
Is there a way to backup everything so that I don't need to reconfigure the phone if I need to make a hard reset?
Thanks.
Use SPB Backup or Sprite Backup (which was shipped with my TyTNII on the CD).
Greetz,
Hans Olo
Do these tools backup everything, I mean installed apps, settings, keyboard, etc.? Or just data? I can't find that information directly written somewhere...
They backup everything, except what you have on your storage card. That is where the sprite backup resides. It got me out of a lot of bad situations. I now routinely back up before I install a new "fix" from the many that come to this forum. When problems appear, I can go back to the most recently backed up program.

Sprite Backup and Hard Reset - Question

Greets,
I have a couple of questions about sprite backup ...
1) If I do a sprite backup, and then a hard reset, and then undo the backup, will I still have all of my programs and pointers to programs installed on the MicroSD card?
2) Does it also include registry changes (such as PTT and KaiserTweak)?
Thanks!
Not quite sure what you mean by the first question.
After a hard reset if you execute the backup exe file that Sprite created it will restore everything that you chose to backup.
When I backup I pick everything but the storage card since sprite restores the registry and shortcuts to anything that was installed there anyway.
Sprite can also restore the mess you tried to fix by HR. I did a BU and HR, then Restore only to have the same symptoms. A HR and rebuild from scratch is the only way I was able to fix my problem. It would work to make a BU of a good setup and keep it safe for later.
And that is the reason it is important to do regular backups. I do mine once a week and also right before I install something unusual or tweak things significantly. I'm using Sprite Backup 6.1 (Tilt owners can upgrade for $10) and have done a half dozen restores after hard reset with excellent results. I backup non-SD data to the SD card. Almost all my add-on programs are stored on the card so the backup isn't very big. SB 6.1 also supports remote backup to an FTP server which I verified works but don't really use.

Sprite Backup 6 Fails On My At&t Tilt:

I went and bought Sprite Backup and when I try to backup my pda from my computer or inside the tilt itself it fails. When I attempt to backup from my computer the tilt shows a white background then goes back to the today menu and if I try from the pda it fails. I installed sprite backup to my memory card, that might be the issue. I am not sure.
If anyone has a clue, thanks.
I am using it fine with my Tilt. I have it installed in main memory.
As what pete_c said install in memory.
Sprite Backup only works manually!!!
I have Sprite Backup set to do automatic backups every night, and save the files to the storage card. However, the program continues to try and save the files to the main memory! I then get an error message since I don't have enough room on the device for the file (about 70mb).
However, when I perform a manual backup (with the same settings) it saves to the storage card with no problem.
sprite backup
In the manual option of the Sprite backup i notice there is a PC option. When I have it connected to my pc (running vista and windows device center) the phone restarts and says can not connect. Any advise?

It is recommended not to use a full restore when changing from different rom versions as a lot of system data, registry entires, databases etc will be different resulting in an unstable rom.
It is better to use a custom restore and only restore PIM info (contacts/emails etc). There are other backup apps out there including Sashimi which allows you to automatically reload apps inc. settings etc so process or restoring apps is quicker.
What you could try is the full restore and try and retrieve your information on 'one note'. Once retrieved (if successful) copy info on paper or try and save it to SD card. Then perform a hard reset and then only restore PIM info. Even if your full restore seems to have had no affect on new rom, I would still not continue to use this and would preform hard reset. You will most likely have restored older information from older rom and as a result will have possibly lost some of the newer functionality, graphics, apps etc of new rom
