Well, my Vogue died the other day. The touch screen won't respond anymore and a new digitizer didn't fix it. So I've decided to go back to my Sanyo Katana for a short period until the Epic 4G comes out on Sprint. I can't tell you guys how sad I am to be leaving. I was planning on keeping this thing forever.
man how are you going to function on a katana
rip vogue, yay epic! i'm praying my vogue holds out long enough to make it to the epic.

I'm not really. This thing is stripped down to nothing as far as functionality. I installed the Sprint Nav app just to have some semblance of smartphone functionality. You really get spoiled with the number of free apps on the Android Market. The "app" market for these phones is 90% paid apps with a monthly subscription. This thing is a phone, nothing more.
lol i think alot us sprint sero users who currently possess the vogue will also jump ship come oct 1 if rumors are true.
Its such a shame because WE have the best community out of all the phones, in terms of talent.

Why, what's on OCT 1?
Yes, what rumors are these?
Edit: I answered my own question! it appears that native android phones will be allowed on SERO in October with a $10 surcharge for android and another $10 if you want4G.

The only source mentioned in the PhoneNews post that you linked to is the HoFo discussion thread above. But there's nothing definitive in that thread. The debate there centers on what type of SERO would qualify. So until October 1, or some official announcement from Sprint, there's mostly speculation.
Thanks Dassin4 .... good info, I was just getting ready to bite the bullet in Aug with 2 SAMSUNG EPIC'S for me and my wife. I will wait til oct and see what happens.
yeah, that will be awesome if it's true. I'm not sure if I would spring for the full 4g package, but I could definately see myself getting a used native android phone from ebay. An accelerometer would surely be nice!

Its aliiiivvveee!!!
I got a bug up my ass and installed WinMo on my supposedly dead Touch thinking I could use it with MyMobiler. As soon as I installed WinMo, the touch screen started working again! Now I'm back on Android after taking a shower in hot bleach to get rid of the dirty feeling.
Woot! Now I don't have to deal with not having a smartphone anymore! Yayyyyyy!

I'm sure that while bigger and better development will go on for the Nexus, once we get a stable 2.1 release (I'm voting for OE), a lot of the stuff will be ported to the G1

Honestly, if you think it's the end of the Dream, then get the Nexus One. I still think there's some more we could do with our current device and personally, I'm still very satisfied with what mine is capable of. It's still better than all of my friend's phone, and always will be.
I would love faster updates but there is bigger and badder phones out their for the devs to developer. I would say that the g1 is slowly decreasing but we still have the most people viewing the g1 forums then any other android phone. Its getting close to the 2 year period for whoever bought the phone new, contracts is up but that is in 8months?

Why are samsung leaking these to test, The FroYo FW must be into a good stage of development by now, I am unsure why we are 'beta testing' this and hoping for FroYo to be released working well straight off the bat,
Do you guys think we will get FroYo releases before it is officially released? I mean all these firmwares we are testing will be made into one that gets officially released.

IF they would release thier Froyo as beta to this forum - they could get beta feedback by reading about bugs posted by us AND does not have to deal with the consequences we know how to reflash - "normal" users dont.
So Win Win for both.

I fired up a google search and i found a lot of hits about a froyo alpha on a galaxy spica. Maybe some things got mixed up.
Yep, can't find anything about Froyo alphas or leaks for the Galaxy S, just for some of the older Galaxy phones.
I think we Android owners are a fairly impatient bunch.
In the time it's taken for the iPhone to go from 3.0 to 4.0, Android has had:
- 1.6 Donut
- 2.0 / 2.1 Eclair
- 2.2 Froyo
The phone manufacturers must have a heart attack every time a new version of Android is released and their handset owners immediately begin screaming for it...
Luckily the Galaxy S is the flagship of Samsung which they intend to sell 10 million of, so chances are we'll be seeing good support and the stream of beta firmwares shows they're not sitting still.
Froyo has been confirmed for August in Korea, and most likely September in international markets.
We've got to be patient and remember the Nexus One is still the ONLY Android phone that has received an official Froyo update as of yet. Even the Desire, EVO 4G, Droid, Incredible and Droid X are still on the waiting list.
From the sounds of it August-October will be the time the various handset manufacturers will be rolling out their Froyo updates.

Well they don't do themselves any favours by launching a new phone every couple of weeks and insisting on putting their own UI on top of Android.
Looking further afield: anyone think that Samsung will put Gingerbread on this baby?

Possibly but I think I have to go with the sceptic masses here that say samsung support isn't good in longterm and so I guess they won't do that. Unless ofc gingerbread is going to bring the massive UI update that vanilla android so desperately needs for usablity and samsung decides that touchwiy isnt necessary anymore.

There are developers assigned to port CyanogenMod to the Vibrant (T-Mobile US version):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=729364
Unfortunately, looking at Wes Garner's Twitter, he seems rather more keen on the Slide than the Vibrant:
I like the slide better

@XJRodzx probably more for it than the vibrant

So don't know how that's necessarily going to work out. The intention is there, though, anyway - hope it's still in progress!
I have doubts with Gingerbread...from what we know so far, it's supposed to have a (MUCH NEEDED!) UI overhaul based around the Gallery's sexy look.
If a phone is launched with a certain interface, chances are the manufacturer probably wouldn't be keen on releasing an update that changes everything because of the issue with it being different to what the buyer paid for. Basically, it changes the product, and the picture on the box is no longer what you've bought. It's all well and good with something like Eclair to Froyo since it's largely just performance improvements and some new features rather than an overhaul.
If anything, I think Samsung would be more likely to release a new version of the Galaxy S at Gingerbread's launch. Much like it's doubtful the HTC Desire / Evo 4G / Incredible will get Gingerbread updates. Instead, HTC will probably have new devices ready for the new interface.
The Nexus One is the only current device I believe has a chance of Gingerbread, mainly because it's the 'official' Google phone and has been promoted and sold as a developer phone. They'll be wanting some nice apps ready for Gingerbread when it launches which will obviously need to be in development before Gingerbread-equipped phones launch.
Well, lets get serious, honestly, we need to do something about our milestones and froyo...
So I got this idea where all of us milestone users around the world demand motorola at the same day to upgrade our phones to froyo, or else, we won't buy motorola anymore, and we will start campaining about not buying any other motorola android devices with a locked bootloader.
So, what should we do?
We bomb their twitters accounts (Motodev, Motomobile, lorifraleigh, mlabowicz) twitting something "we want froyo on our milestones and we want it now! wake up and do something about it! #twitterbomb".
How do we do it?
We all do it by the last week of this mont, everyday, sereral times a day, ask everyone you know to retweet your #twitterbomb, we need to put the pressure on motorola.
So put it in your calendars, set an alarm so we dont forget it, lets twitter bomb motorola, foward this thread, share it on twitter, let everyone knows about it, we have until monday to join people to our cause!
Do you know any emails account from motorola offcials we can use? post them and i will share them here!
Btw, the month is AUGUST 2010
I would do a second tweet: "Open the freaking bootloader!! Why the hell Droid is not closed and Milestone is??!?".
That would sure solve all of our problems.
Thanks.

Im sure their answer will be something like we forgot to do it, sorry we ****ed up... or maybe to get you hoocked

the reason why Droid hasn't a signed bootloader is well known...
Google had to work on the Droid it self... so they had to be able to flash their own roms into it, making Motorola unlock the Device!
Milestone was completely made by Motorola it self read NO Google Navigation by Default, instead MotoNavi...
The reason is nothing like that, where did you come up with it?
The reason why the droid is unlocked,is because apple has the rights for multitouch in the u.s.,so motorola unlocked the bootloader,so that users can enable multitouch themselves.milestone has multitouch support out of the box.thats the one and only reason for it.a little research never harms.
Google maps are also present.
Google navigation isnt available outside the u.s. yet in general.things are simple.dont get comfused.

You may be right, but it is also correct that Google worked on the Droid for several months before release.
BTW ..Google Navigation is available in Canada and many other countries, where have you been? The Milestone only comes with MotoNav so you gotta install Google Maps Navigation manually from the market.
Yeah. Because spamming them really is gonna help.
What is this, /b/?
I think Spamming like this will never help. Company like Motorola ,which is spread all over the world with hundreds of categories of products, do not need to pay attentions to any such spamming or shouting.
Do you people really think that just by spamming like this on twitter will make whole world stop buying motorola range of products? certainly not. Like dsixda said Its Just a Phone, lolz.
2.1 updates are still coming to many devices. May be they are still doing some R & D on Froyo on Milestone and will release whey they confirm the stability and power consumption, etc. As per some unreliable(?) sources, Froyo is coming to Milestone in Q3, i.e. upto end of Sept 2010. Click here
https://service.o2online.de/portal/...ostpaid&hwid=4510+020109+00&tid=N-HWO-H-NC-20
On above page see "Besonderheiten" paragraph and find the line "Webkit Browser - durch Android 2.2 Update Flash-fähig". Though in german you can easily know whats written. If one Milestone gets Froyo, surely all will get. You just need patience.
I EVEN SUSPECT THIS TWITTERBOMB IDEA, May be you already know that Froyo is coming in Q3, and you are asking to bomb in last week of this month. It seems it will be easier for you to claim the credit of Froyo on Milestone in Sept coz you asked to bomb in last week of Aug 2010. LOLZ just kidding, dont mind it.
I am also doubtful that why twitter will keep quiet to spamming. There are high chances of your twitter accounts be suspended/closed after such spamming. So be careful.
lolz
I would really like to know what pisses you guys off having 2.1 installed? Only because of JIT, Tethering and the likes?
I'm just happy that Motorola still releases bug fixes for the Milestone (as another company leaves its customers supportless in terms of upgrades => see HTC Tattoo)...
Regarding the unlocking of the bootloader I'm also of the opinion that it should be unlocked...
I'm not to bothered about 2.2 but I want 3.0. Motorola should update the milestone as it is their flagship (I think that term is correct) device juat like the htc desire is htc's.
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App
To the OP: It'd be MORE MATURE instead to ask the Twitter account @ MotoMobile and Motorola when and if they are going to have the Milestone update. If lots of people ask (not "Twitter bomb") it would make them realize there is a lot of interest out there. I don't want us to stoop to the level that makes them think all XDA'ers are silly children who don't deserve 2.2.
The "I want my 1 point 6" campaign for the Rogers HTC Dream (Android 1.5) was successful enough on Twitter that Rogers decided to offer Dream users a free Magic which would be upgraded to 2.1 in the future.
afaik, the "I want my 1 point 6" campaign was for both the Magic and the G1/Dream
and they're still wauting for an upgrade to anything above 1.5 on their Magic
so i dont know if that can be called a success...
in Belgium, where i bought my Magic, they're still on 1.5 as well
upgraded to the Milestone (unbranded, i'm starting to learn) about a month ago, expecting it to be one of the first phones to be upgraded to 2.2, only to find out Motorola wasnt even sure if they would update the Milestone at all!

Hey guys, Purchased an HD7 about 6 months ago to see what WM7 was like, Wasn't a fan at all and used the phone in total for about 48 hours in the space of that time.
The phone looks brand new and is unlocked to use on any carrier.
Looking for £275 for it including next day signed delivery (all original box and items are also included).
Will post pictures as soon as I get the battery charged and upload them tomorrow probably!
What is it you don't like about the phone.. for one its really good and I would suggest you to wait untill the MANGO update as Its got quiet a lot of improvements and the beta really rocks.

If I'm 100% honest I like the idea of it and how it looks (GUI), but the behind the scenes stuff is terrible and the lack of support for the phone makes me feel like a second class user.
I much prefer what Apple and Google have to offer, but WM7 lags behind majorly for the time being, even mango won't keep me interested (Thats why I waited to long to sell, Mango is not what i'd hoped for)
But I have no use for the phone anyway, I have 3 phones now and I got a cheap HD2 recently for messing around with WM7.
You should be posting this in the Marketplace forums.
Good luck with the sale.

HD7 actually have lots of potentials. If you are not satisfyed with WP7 and can't wait, jailbreak it, apply the no-relock patch and upgrade it way up to Mango Beta 2 and you will be impressed by its system-level Facebook and Twitter intergration. (I'm using it and regreted wasting memory installing the original Twitter and Facebook apps since the OS itself is shipped with veeeeeeeery cool support of them. Try have your contact directly binded with their Facebook and Twitter accounts?)

Patience... It's coming. While I share your anticipation, I figure that it will be worth the wait since the boys here will take it and run with it. Just like the other roms that have been released so far, it's definitely been worth waiting for.

Yea I'm trying to be patient about it. When I had my droid 2 I was being patient and it never happened. So my patience is running thin. Haha
This reminds me of when I had my HTC eris. It seemed to take forever for 2.1 to come out for it! Mainly because the sense UI had to be completely updated to be compatible. Not sure what the delay is in this case, but I'm sure it will be worth it.

Take most rumor dates and add 4 to 6 weeks to them with VZW. I do not expect to see GB much before January or February which I find pointless as ICS could just as easily be configured for the Revo...

Yes and no... Esteem built for MPCS and Revo for VZW. Verizon does not necessarily have, want, or need to push GB to this phone. I honestly expect to see the Revo to hit EOL list soon. [sarcasm] It is nearly 6 months old [/sarcasm]
Total speculation, but I wouldn't be surprised if the reason for the delay
is so that they can find as many ways as possible to lock it down from being rooted. Considering VZW is in the business of CONTROLLING what you can and cannot do (unless you pay then more) with your open source based smart phone. I wouldn't put this past them. :-/

Might also be that they are waiting until there is a release of the Revo 2 with stock GB (if the rumors are correct) and they dont want people to have reasons not to upgrade to a new product.
I am on MPCS and had the Ascend with stock 2.1 and even though there were rumors of a 2.2 update, it did not happen until after the Ascend 2 came out with 2.2 stock.
Dunno, just a thought....still hope it comes soon for all the Revo people in waiting.

I do not really care anymore at this point. I have decided to wait for February, upgrade one of my other lines and switch to the nexus prime. By February the prime should be out, and updated with fixes and running smooth. It also gives devs sometime to tweak and fiddle. I will then sell my revo.

I love my Android and it's customizing abilities, so don't get me wrong on this statement, but WP7 has been starting to catch my interest. Of course, I have at least another year before I have to think about upgrading, but since I am a MS programmer, the thought of owning one intrigues me.
I have been with Android for years, but the more I read about the troubles developers have with this platform, the less I believe it will ever be a unified architecture. The problem is that they are developing on a Linux base with fragmented (if not non-existent) standards, with several "one off" branches.
What this means for the gaming industry and high end graphics capabilities is that this platform has a strong likelihood of never reaching it's full hardware potential. Reading comments from large institutions like Electronic Arts on the difficulty in developing for the platform and seeing the Android market further sink into mini-walled gardens due to "perceived" compatibility issues, my hopes for this platform are slowly starting to come into question.
That's unfortunate, because I love the idea, I love the freedom, and I think I would hate living in a design chosen for me, but at the end of the day, it's going to be the quality of apps, and how well the device runs with the operating system, as well as the compatibility of apps that's going to make a difference.
Maybe my mind will change over the next year or so with the release of ICS (hate that name), but right now, I don't have much hope of seeing this OS going in a direction any different than the current state of Linux.
It's functional, it's powerful, but I want EVERYTHING Android has the capability of doing, not just the bits and pieces they deem worthy of my branded device. My video chip is every bit as powerful as the competing OS devices, so I want to actual see the potential realized!
The Amazon store, the NVidia store, the restrictions with the Market, it's all contributing to putting gated communities up around every subsection of Android. Honestly, I grow tired of it...
Not sure if anyone caught this news back in the spring or remembers... but the update is more than likely coming. Google is "encouraging" manufacturers to keep their phones up to date for 18 months after release. LG and Verizon are supposedly on board. Course, this doesn't mean much, but it is hope.

I agree with majorpay. So much potential yet so much pussyfooting around in an attempt to squeeze money out of people. I mean that's the whole point of marketing but I think its kind of ridiculous that when an update comes out everyone running the os has no real guarantee of getting it. And if they did promise it. They don't have to promise when. Android is a tank of an os. Wish we could have the current version when its available and not have to wait till our carrier or manufacturer is ready to release it.
what happens first Revo getting GB or ICS launching?
then how long before people start wanting ICS.
Me i have 1 upgrade on my account left and just waiting for either the Prime and or see whats coming out early next yer.
don't take this the wrong way i LOVE the Rev over any other phone on verizon right now BUT it seems like LG is holding back..this phone should have launched with GB there was no reason for it not to. now it sounds like there waiting for the Revo 2 to launch before updating it.
rant done for now

I love my Android and it's customizing abilities, so don't get me wrong on this statement, but WP7 has been starting to catch my interest. Of course, I have at least another year before I have to think about upgrading, but since I am a MS programmer, the thought of owning one intrigues me.

don't feel bad. I was at an ATT store with a friend and was checking out the HD7s and was highly impressed with it. It was super smooth and fast, had decent specs. Overall a really nice phone. If Verizon had a comparable phone (trophy is not near the level of the hd7s) I would have considered it.

I would *suspect* WP7 is going to start bringing REAL phones to the table within the next year or so (they kind of have to if they want to stay in the game). It will be interesting to see what impact on those of us in the Android world it will have. Unless Android can unify their architecture and make dev friendly APIs and standards, they are going to lose this game as quickly as they started winning it. On that note, I'll never purchase an Apple. Put a gun to my head, and it's still likely not going to happen.
Another interesting point you make there, that I've never understood, is that Verizon, one of the largest providers in the nation, always seems to be the last to get the greatest hardware.
