HELP...NEW TO WIZARDS...HELP...BEST ROM?

Hi there
i recently purchased my 02 XDA mini S
its ROM version is 1.5.4.2 WWE
its radio version is 01.09.10
Ive been reading a lot on this site and it seems obvious that when you first buy them there not as good as they can be!!
There are lots of people talking about lots of different ROMs and im slightly confused!!!
What would be the best one for me to instal (if i need to at all), why would it be better than what i've already got? and how i can go about doing it?
Im quite knowledgable about technicle stuff so im not a complete rookie but any help would be GREATLY appreciated

hi jamie! you've the best ROM, don't change it!!!!I'm searching for it in FRENCH for one month!!!
The ROM 1.6.7.1 is good too but only for edge download and the extrom is write protected!
So you can install the 1.6.7.1 only for the edge, otherwise keep yours!!

Hi all my questions may sound dumb but I am a newbie and want to learn!
I have read the wiki but couldn’t find what I was after.
I am thinking about updating my ROM software from 1.40.00 WWE to the latest one offered on the 02 website which is a v1.40.242.
I am running windows mobile 2003 2nd edition version 4.21.1088. Does anybody if I update my ROM will I have to re-install the Windows mobile 2003? As I bought this phone 2nd hand off ebay I don’t have any recovery cds for the windows mobile software. What does the Software update and does it install a operating system when it updates or does it keep the one I am running?
As it is if I update my xda 2s with the latest rom from the o2 website would it mean that after the update my xda would run on the same windows mobile 2003 software or would one be installed with the ROM update?
Also has anyone updated with the latest o2 rom update and has it made their xda 2s more stable? I am not sure whether I should update as I don’t want any more trouble than I already have with my xda! Any help will be appreciated by a newbie in distress!

hi there,
usually the latest rom provided by your vendor, mean there could be big fixes, performance enhancement over the current one, read changelog to be sure of though.
if you decide to go ahead and update it
1. NO YOU DONT NEED RECOVERY CD
2. you will need to reload your own installed application after update.
3. rom update = total current os wipe out and reload a new one, all done by update process itself. so dont worry about that
most ppl in this forum has already given up on the current and stable official rom (windows mobile 2003 SE).
few the guys here like Logout, Tuma and othere are working on a stable release of windows mobile 2005. and we are greatful for their hard work

No one has recovery CDs for these phones. While a minor upgrade from your operator is common, having a major upgrade to e.g. WM5 is very rare.
Updating the phone is like a ROM flash on your computers BIOS. So long as you are connected to mains and don't pull the plug, errors are very rare. Especially with the official ROMs.
Finally, all ROM updates improve stability. They wouldn't spend time and money on them just without a big benefit. Testing and releasing a ROM is quite a big deal for the telcos.
EDIT: oops, posted the same time as imatrix. Twice the answers for the same price!

i did the exact same upgrade with my O2 UK version with 1.40 about a week ago.. once i got that done... i went ahead and upgraded to 2005... which is so much better then the 2003.... so i would suggest upgrading to the IVAN LATEST 2005 ROM WITH RAMDISK... if you don't care much about how the software looks and works.. then just upgrade it with the latest SHIPPED (o2) Rom.. it improoves lot of bugs.. but one problem i had with latest o2 rom is that the Hearing vollume of the phone goes down a little.. not too much...

[Q]WWE ROM on German Device?

Hi guys,
I'm considering buying the HD from Germany with the German ROM (as I will get one a week or more earlier than the WWE one ).
Do you think (or know yet) if the WWE ROM can be easily installed on the German device without HSPL (as there is no HSPL for the HD yet)?

no, you can't. already tried it with my german os HD (bought in Austria) last week, the WWE won't install -- need to hardspl first.

Help On Which Rom And Radio

Hi everyone i have tytn11 with wm6.0 from 3 uk it is now out of warranty can anyone advise me on which rom to use and radio i live in uk and still intend using 3 network but going down to a cheaper package i would love to try wm6.1 ive seen australia released a rom update no such luck for us uk users please any advice would be good thankyou everyone.

i have had good luck with Josh's 6.5 roms and a 1.70 radio.. but you will have to experiment. ROM versions work better with different radios.. experiment.

Do you use GPS? Have you seen the *Hopeless* GPS after 6.1 update thread if you do? By all means read up on what to do first and try out some other ROMs but don't be surprised if you get no direct recommendations to try x or y ROM for best 3 UK performance as it can be a bit inflammatory to recommend one chefs creation over another. I went down the WM 6.1 (official HTC) path and went back to WM 6.0 for a number of reasons, GPS being the main one.

i'm in uk and use pdacorner Ultimate-X.V8 with radio 1.70.19.09 which is wm6.1 and i have no gps issues at all. very fast with no lag.

Im yet again pondering what to do with my phone. At the moment im running Duttys 3.9Xtreme and have to admit its good, but now im thinking is the upgrade to a windows 6.5 ROM worth it?

Only you can make that decision. Why not backup what you have now, try rom with wm6.5 for a few days to get feel of it and make your own decision. If you don't like it, revert back to original and restore your backup!!
No need to create new thread for this!!
