Hi,
I recently upgraded from Android 1.6 to CM 5.0.8
I was using Radio version 2.22.23.02 before the upgrade, and I am still using the same radio
However, I noticed significant decrease in the phone's reception capabilities
It more or less had the same reception as just about any other phone.
But now, when a Nokia or Samsung, or Sony Ericsson phone (not a smartphone) has 4 or bars, with the same network, at the same area, my phone has either 1 bar or no bars at all
Should I change my radio version?
As far as I know, I cannot use a 1.x radio, but I can change it to
2_22_19_26
or
a 3.x radio (which I am not sure where to download from. The few download links I could find were for Rogers Deam machines, not my regular Dream/G1)
Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Hey guys, I live in a rural area in the USA and I use to get a pretty steady 1-2 bars my house. Recently I started flashing my ROM with some of the ROMs here and I've noticed I can now only get maybe 1 bar by my window. I was wondering if somehow my radio got changed or something else? I'm on T-mobile. Thanks for you help.

What radio version have you got installed?
(in case you don't know, look under 'start>system>settings>device information>software information'.)
Here's a thread with lots of different radio versions for download: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=549939
Different radio versions are often better suited to different geographic areas/carriers. Take a read and see whether there are any comments about a particular radio version from someone who lives near you/uses the same carrier.
It says:
4.49.25.17
I'm knew here and I understand the concept of ROMs but what is the radio for and does flashing the ROM change it?

You can go here...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=549939 and read about the different radios. Some roms work better with certain radios. Flash some and see what works best for you..
The radio (not to be confused with the internal FM-radio) is the firmware which controls the device's various antennas (among other hardware). It sits between your device's hardware and Windows Mobile. The radio is a huge factor in your reception in a given area, so changing radio versions may help you. The only problem with radios is that your situation is completely unique, and therefore, nobody can tell you which radio is best for your location. My advice is to simply try the latest ones, and see how those work, and using older and older ones until you find one that works for you. The procedure for flashing ROMs and radios is the same. Just ensure you don't flash a CDMA radio, or you'll brick your device. Visit cr1960's link for all GSM Rhodium radios.

Aluminum foil wrapped around a fork and tied to my phone seems to work for me.
Flashing a cooked ROM won't affect your radio version. But if you flash an official ROM, that usually comes with its own radio version too.
hi guys, ive flashed a couple of different froyo roms and decided to stick to FroyoRedux 1.5
reason for all this reflashing.......when using 3G networks i randomly get no signal for about 2 minutes and then its back again. im not too sure why this is happening and wondering if anyone else encountered the same problem?
there seems to be no problem with 2G networks but being on 2G is lame and makes mobile internet kinda pointless.
BTW problem still persists in FroyoRedux 1.5
phone specs are in the sig (if you wanna know what im using)
cheers!
Had this issue on my kaiser running froyo also, went to an older radio which fixed it, and amazingly enough, the same happened on my G1, and the same step fixed it.
Using radio 2.22.23.02 I had regular 'no signal' issues, going back to 2.22.19.26I solved it for me, I still get signal loss on occasion, but only in known very low signal areas,
hmmm interesting, im gunna give this a try and see what the outcome is.
did u just flash the old radio file over your current one or did you use a specific procedure?
Need help hoping someone can point me the right direction or has had this problem before.
On random occasions my connections to the T-Mobile network will stop. The way that I know it's stopped is I'll look at the 3G or H icons in the drop bar and the up arrow will be blinking as if it's try to connect but nothing will happen. During this time, no calls will come in or out, and data will not work. To get out of this, I either have to reboot or switch from 3G to EDGE (also happens while on EDGE too) or just wait it out, EVENTUALLY, the connections will be restored and the up and down arrows will light up showing traffic is flowing again. I know it's not coverage since more often than not I have full bars or at least 2 bars.
I'm thinking it's not the radio firmware, since I'm running modded ROMs (currently running CM6.1 RC1) and I've upgraded the radio successfully each time. The radio I'm currently running is 32.41.00.32U_5.08.00.04
Let me know if anyone has any ideas on how to troubleshoot this or has a clue on what I should do.
thanks
5.08 and 5.12 radio versions came from Korean updates, so would you like to give 4.06 a try to see if it solves the problem? if still doesn't, try 5.12 see if it works.
Radio image is not really tied with Rom, Froyo requires 4.06 or later radios. Since radio software handles all data communication.. so it is still possible that radio software caused the problem (i think )
Ive had this problem since I first got the N1, was happening even while running stock 2.1 so I dont think it has to do with the OS. I had written it off thinking it was an issue with TMO and their network. But at this point doesnt seem like that.
I've ran 4.06 radio in the past and still the problem presented itself so Im pretty confident that rolling back to 4.06 isnt going to fix it. I've just recently upgraded to the 5.12 radio so we'll see if that ends up working.
Other than that any other ideas?
I currently have 5.12.00.08 radio. According to this page: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Latest_Version it says the radio should be the LATEST VERSION. But doesn't say what version that is. I have CM 7.0.3 and 2.6.38.7-CFS-redstar+ kernel.
My understanding is 5.12 is the latest for anyone, but I don't know if it was ever officially released in USA or just Korea. I couldn't find anything definitive.
I've been seeing performance issues for quite some time with regard to 3G data. Doesn't quite seem usable, very slow and sometimes the little arrows show nothing happening for several seconds before anything starts to move. When standing next to someone with a Verizon phone, it's pretty embarrassing when their data is already loaded and I don't even see my little arrows doing anything yet.
Speedtest has almost always been .25MBs-.45MBs when on 3G. I'm not expecting 100Mb, but it really makes the phone hard to use when 3G is this slow.
I've called Tmobile on a few occasions and they either tell me it's an unsupported device and, basically, go pound sand or that they are always working on upgrading service and I should see better speeds with time.
What else can I do to get better speeds?
If everything is working you shouldn't worry too much.
The Radio that got update with OTA GB is 5.08.00.
I've run 5.12.00 before without a problems. I went ahead and put 5.08.00 on cause that's what is official with GB.

lol did the same thing
i think 5.12 is a specialized radio for certain regions
Pretty much self-explanatory.
What is the difference between 5.12.00.08 Radio and 5.08.00.04?
Any speed/lag differences?
Anything to do with wifi/data signal range?

I believed 5.12 was originally released for Korean market.
With that said I have tried the 5.12 here in the US and it work fine as far
as I can see. I did however changed to 5.08 as that's what was pushed
to the N1 when it got updated to GB.
i have ran them both for long periods of time and haven't noticed any difference for me.
some devs recommend one or the other, not sure why
some have had speed issues with 5.12, not aware that i do over 5.08
I think it depends on a combination of phone, area, and network. I kept switching, until I found one that gave best performance - not sure how much was the placebo affect though...
yea, i almost switched back to .08 with ics when there were network issues, but all ok now on .12
So it's more of a signal strength thing? Does it have an effect on the FM Radio app?
there's no relationship btwn your fm radio and your phone's xmit/receive radio
I have the .08 radio and it works well. Haven't had any bothersome issues with it and won't upgrade to .12.
No need to upgrade something that works well.
