push custom ringtones to rom? - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi guys i was wondering if anyone can tell me how to custom ringtones and notification sounds (such as hero sounds and ringtones) to an eclair or froyo rom? i have a feeling that it might speed my phone up when receiving calls and messages and reduce lag...

First it wont help but hey knock your self out.
The easies is just to make a folder on your sdcard that contains your ringtones/notifications name it like media/audio/ringtones and media/audio/notifications
If you really want to actually put it in the rom then push them to system/media/audio/ringtones and system/media/audio/notifications.
with adb it would be adb push [youringtone] /system/media/audio/ringtones
or use something like root explorer.
I have heard the ogg files make the ring start faster but that could be a placebo also.
good luck

cheers mate, i think it might help, on my magic it reloads the sdcard on random occasions too and then when i get a fone call it lags, hopefully this should help a lil

Copy them all to "My documents\my music" on your phone
ok so i have done that....and it shows up in the options to choose as ringtone but not for any other options...like text message or mms or email...am i doing something wrong or those just can not have ringtones as there notification sound
are the .mp3? try to convert them to .wav for notifications other than ringtones. i've noticed that it varies by rom whether it would take a wav or an mp3 as a notification.

Could you zip up all the default XPERIA ringtones for me?

hey guys.
Just a simple request to those who you have the time to do so.
I recently installed Gtrab's W4X WM6.5 Cooked Rom but didn't realise it had a lot of the ringtones included with the xperia missing.
I've searched the forums and found the odd file containing ringtones taken from handsets but they are different tones.
Could you please copy and zip all the ringtones from the Windows folder from a default Xperia rom and upload it to the internet for me please
Cheers,
Hyped
I need them too. can somebody please post them?
Thank you
Press me softly....
Thank you for your help, however, unfortunately, these are not the ringtones I need.
I'm not sure where they're saved but there are some ringtones called like Alarm1, Alarm2, Alarm3 and such. And it's in this location I need the ringtones. I think they are scattered throughout the Windows folder admist the system files.
So, could you possible collect and zip these please

Extract the rar file on your computer, connect device via active sync, once syncing click "explore" and your my documents folder should be visible, move the extracted mp3 ringtones to this folder. Hope that helps
Thx
But does anybody have also the ringtones for sms ?
There is one ringtone, i really miss on the ROMĀ“s, but i do not remember the name

There is a thread or two around here somewhere with a link to all the OEM ringtones / sounds etc. I'm not sure what it was titled though.
It was a rar file and nearly 38mB in size.
:edit Found it. I used the top secret 'Search' button. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=526164

Dtmf tones

Well I'm not sure what's up but my dtmf tones are so quiet i have to put my ear to the speaker to hear them. Does anyone know where the DTMF tones are located so i can extract them and see how the sound on my PC? If they are indeed quiet natively somehow, I can always edit them and adb push them back, but I just cant seem to find where they are located.
I wonder if it somehow has to do with me using meltus's audiohack. (Using V2 w/v6 update) I've reset it back to the stock files, but it didnt seem to change anything from the DTMF standpoint. So maybe its another app causing this.
Thank god for nandroid. At least it resolved the issue. But i cant help wonder what app caused my dtmf tones to be almost inoperable.

Sounds very interesting. I'm not too savvy on ringtone formats, but are you talking about the stock ringtones that come with the build you're using? You might want to go out and find the collection of every ringtone from every build and put that on your SD card, see if those work just as well.
It very well could be a app modifying things, but I find that unlikely because they have to go into the system root folders...hmmph.
Can you play music at a normal level from the speaker?
He's talking about touch tones, not ringtones. And for the original question.. I don't know, but I'd hazard a guess that DTMF is generated by software (they are pretty simple, as far as tones go) rather than recorded. I haven't seen the media anywhere. Check with meltus to see if he has discovered anything that may affect DTMF? Doubt the tones themselves are at fault, but probably something to do with the mixer / volume control.

MP3 as text alert?

Hi all, i have recently got an mp3 trimming program i found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4841262#post4841262 which works fine on the TD2, and i have chopped up a few mp3 tracks and put them in the ringtone folder(main memory) on my device. Now i can select one of these to use as my ringtone fine using the notifications tab in sounds but i cant seem to set a mp3 i have trimmed as an incoming text message alert. Does anyone know if this is possible and if so how?
no it is not possible, you have to put your file in wma format into windows folder
edit: sorry my mistake, mp3 works in wm6.5
I set one of my trimmed mp3s as my incoming text and mms alert. I renamed as "Alert-tonename" and dropped in into my windows folder. I also put into my ringtones folder for good measure so I don't know if you need to do both. But, that is how I got one of my trimmed mp3s available as a message alert. Hope this helps.

Put it directly into your Windows folder, rings are only for rings but sounds go to Windows.
Thanks for the info guys ill take a look now
Hmm if i try and move the file on my pc via sync for some reason it does not show the windows folder i need to move it to, and i have tried several things on the device itself i.e. touching the mp3 file till i get the pop up menu, pressing cut then going to the windows folder holding the screen again but i have no option to paste :S sorry if its a simple solution i just cant seem to work it out.
Many thanks guyd i have sussed it ou, im well happy thanks
P.S. if anyone else is unsure feel free to ask here or message me and ill do my best to explain.
Hi Shambolicuk, I'd be grateful if you could explain to me how you did it.
I copied them in My Ringtones and they automatically appeared in the ringtone list
Changing ringtone and alerts to Mp3's or Wav's
This is old but I wonder if there are any fossil TD2's that are still using TD2's. Change the login sound by setting "HTC-tonename" ? Cant delete the original HTC-Quietly...wav any ideas??

This works for ringtones but not for alarms or alerts.

[Q] installing Ringtones & changing fonts?

I just recently got myself a G1 and really happy with it.
I rooted and installed Cyanogen 6 RC3 which appears to be working good - had it running for a few days now.
Personally i dont like the default ringtones and would like to use my own MP3 ringtones.
Secondly, i would like to change the font, have seen screenshots from other users who have done this.
Question is how do you add ringtones and change the fonts?
Thanks for the help.
I would suggest that you update to Cyanogen 6 stable.
For ring tones the easiest way is to just and them on your sd card.
Make a folder called media\audio\ringtones, media\audio\alarms, media\audio\notifications.
Just put your ring tones etc. in the appropriate folders.
As for the font I don't know.
Thanks for your help on the ringtones.
Dont suppose you know easiest method to put music onto the sd card as well?
add a folder called music or what ever....
Can't remember if a reboot will re-scan or if it is in the music app to rescan.
I think a reboot will scan and find it automagically.
