So for some reason I am getting the following error when the EVDO connection goes out
Data Call Failure
Error Code 67 .Registration failure. Your PCS Vision username and/or password may be incorrect. Please try again.
Now I am using a rom that I cooked(cooking) based on my carriers 2.1 ruu update. So I don't understand why this is happening.
The only thing I can think of is something happened when I rooted my phone using the leaked sprint ruu. So the phone thinks I am under sprint?
I also recently updated to my carriers RUU and re-rooted the phone from 2.1.
The only difference I am seeing from my phone to a stock phone is the PRI version is different. The PRL is the same on both phones.
Is this the reason for the error??
and if it is how do I get the PRI from a friend's phone to put on my phone?
The PRI on my phone is 2.10_003 (im not with sprint)
i get this error sometimes to its driving me crazy i also work for sprint and have seen alot of these devices come in with the same issue also the moment i think it may be with the original software
mine gives me that error and i cant do anything i dismiss and it keeps popping up till i reset also web just randomly stops working and i continue to have evdo coverage just the arrows dont move
I am wondering if there is anyway to backup and restore the pri.
I am thinking if I could get the pri from a friends phone and restore mine that might fix the problem.

i bought a used g1 no physical problems took it into a shop and they couldnt find anything wrong with it internally so im guessing its a software issue....dont know if this guy i bought it from tried to mess with root and messed something up but im thinking its some sort of software stuff....can anyone PLEASE help!?!?!?!?! i either get this phone fixed or keep using my nokia that seems like its from 1998 and its killing me!!!!!!
What are the stats of the phone? You can check the versions in the settings\about phone area. Model #, Firmware version, Baseband version, kernel version and build number information would be helpful.
Is it already rooted? If not, you may want to go ahead and start reading up on the root process. Some of the newer builds may or may not help the issue. But if it isn't rooted and you arent getting a signal, it very well may be a network issue. Also, does your phone service have a data plan? Has the phone gone through and passed all of the sign-in procedure? (being from another country, I am not sure what all you have to do to activate your phone) Sim card good?
thats the problem i did a factory reset to input my gmail info and now i cant get past the damn activation screen! ive been through all the customer support through tmo and cant figure anything out!!! im goin crazy
also ive found this webpage http://developer.htc.com/adp.html that has recovery, system and radio images from htc and every time i try one of them it comes up and says no signature or no verification.......not sure what to do

you cant apply those because your phone is not rooted. learn what your doing without randomly flashing everything that can killed your phone. and yes, you can kill your phone permanently flashing the wrong **** (i.e radio/spl)
Today while at work I look down and my phone is in Digital Roam for no reason at all. I tried PRL update I just get a force kill on OMADM has stopped unexpectedly.
I tried removing the battery, re flashing to a different radio, tried wiping the phone and reinstalling fresh 2.1.2 still digital roam. tried connecting to wifi no luck.
took it up to the sprint store the guy is familiar with the fresh rom and told me he's seen a flood of issues today with 1.5 and 2.1 regardless of rom. but they reflash the phones with the sprint update and they are fine...
anyone else having this issue? any fixes? help?... i dont want to get the sprint update and I refuse to believe that they implanted something to block people with bootleg roms... right...?
I know the PRL should be 60665 but it shows 27392

Have you tried running Update Profile as well? That has fixed it for me. Also, I know this seems to pertain to ROMs and such, but post this in the Q&A forum.
Hope you get it figured out.

try adb pushing the attached OMADM.apk to your /system/app directory.
OMADM.apk FC's have been reported by others, and i experienced them myself. This APK fixed the issue for me, I was able to update Profile+PRL and everything was hunky dory =D
EDIT: also, it sounds like your on a GSM PRL. this issue has been covered by many. here is a quote from damageless on the issue.
damageless said:
you need to go and set your phone to not use the gsm band. On the dialer, type in *#*#4636#*#* and go to phone information and change the set preferred network type to CDMA auto(PRL) - you must do this regardless if it shows it already.

when you go into phone info, it will show that its set to CDMA auto(prl), but its just a graphical bug, if you try and change it, it will force close, and when the app recovers you will see it set to GMS auto(PRL). Just set it back to CDMA auto(prl).
Good luck =D
The sprint RUU actually wont fix the issue, I work at a service center and saw 4 phones with the same issue today. All had the sprint official 2.1 update.
To fix the issue you need the PRL flashed over the wire, unfortunatley the only way I know how to do this is with the software we use at my store. Ask your local service center to just flash the prl.
I nadroid to a previous version still was in digital roaming tried a prl finally it worked 60665
Usually just hitting Update PRL over and over fixes it.
I did but it kept FC and would just sit on the screen.
Hello,
I've tried a couple roms, including Damage Control, Fresh 2.0d, Fresh 2.3.3 and ZenEXP.
All of the roms except the ZenEXP constantly give me an error 98.
Data Call Failure
Error Code 98. Network Error. Sign in failed. Please wait a moment and try again. You may need to go to [Settings\PCS Vision] and select [Update Vision Profile]. If this problem persists, you may need to contact Sprint.
Even though everything on the phone works, including GPS, MMS, WAP, Text / Call.
Please note that my phone is flashed to a different carrier called Cricket.
I think the only reason I don't get the Error 98 is because ZenEXP is a GSM based rom?
If that's the case, does anyone know what file(s) I might be able to modify in one of the CDMA based roms in order not to get that error? Or just a solution to make that error go away on CDMA based roms?
Thanks for the help!
-Chris
Anyone else get this error?

try this rom
BitterSweet v1.2
it's made for non-sprint phones/carriers.
how is that cricket service? what area are you in?
i've been thinking about doing this just to get my bill down to $40/month. pretty tempting.

I never travel so its quite good. Everything unlimited for $40 a month is a godsend.
I live in Tulsa, OK. If I goto Oklahoma City I lose service, but I only go there like once a year.
Other than that I always have full bars and call quality is good.
I will have to try that Rom you mentioned.
I like the Damage Control and Fresh roms because they are fast and reliable.
The ZenEXP is a very nice rom except it makes my phone really sluggish even after a fresh wipe. Takes like 5 seconds for it to unlock, sometimes takes 2 or 3 seconds to go between home screens? Damage Control and Fresh are isntant.
I thought it would be quite the opposite considering ZenEXP is OC'd but it's not.
Thanks
I've had a Droid Eris on Cricket since March and never received the 98 error. However, I just recently flashed my new Evo to Cricket, and wallah...Data Call Failure Error 98. It appears this is certainly a Sprint related error, and seems to happen anytime my 3G connection hiccups.
I'm wondering if this error is happening for the same reason on the Hero as it is on the Evo?

Yeah that's when mine would do it. Or anytime I enable WiFi as it switches and loses 3g, bam error 98. No idea why.. its normal for service to lose and gain bars and signal.. not sure why the phone makes a big deal about it.
It's so annoying that I'm sticking with gsm roms until a fix is found. It will seriously pop up and interrupt you no matter what you are doing. Pretty lame.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
Yep..it's quite annoying. I have found that I can reproduce the error on my Evo (Android phone) by going to Settings/System updates/Update profile. I immediately get the 98 error...so it's something to do with Sprint programming on these phones that tries to connect their network to update a profile and then fails of course since flashed phones aren't on the Sprint network.
Error 98 DATA FAILURE fixed on my cricket evo by changing the mobile + simple ip to JUST simple ip in qpst service programming in the m.ip tab.

WORKED LIKE A CHARM!!!! :victory:
I am working on getting a hero working on Verizon. I currently have created a custom rom using FroShedYo.V6 and update-cm-6.1.0-RC1-Heroc-signed. This is running but I am not getting a data connection. The mobile network state is disconnected and I am always roaming. I was able to do a *228 and both options said they worked.
I replaced the wifi driver with the one from the hero and I have wifi working now. Does anyone know if there is a 3g driver or the like for the hero that I need to replace? Or is this a MMS programming issue?
So close yet so far away.
You gotta change the apn settings and and eri.xml is your rom sense based or what?
The roms I am working with are CM6 based without sense. I think. I am new to android hacking. The eris one is the FroShedYo.V6 and there is no /data directory in either one. I am going to try a different rom with the /data directory already in it.
try hexscrews rom I believe it has apn settings in it for all carriers
I'm wondering if this is a PRI issue. I see there used to be a leaked rom that had an Eris PRI from verizon that was installed. Is there anyway to get this somehow installed on my hero on purpose now?
I now have the hero on the verizon network with talk and text. I used a base eris rom and used the drivers for wifi, screen rotation, bluetooth from a hero rom with the same kernel. The one thing that I do not have working is the 3G data connection. I have looked at several things trying to get this to work but have had no success.
I am getting data connection errors in the radio that I can see in logcat. The phone also appears to always be roaming.
Anyone have any suggestions on how I can get these things fixed?
Well if the phone is always roaming and its set for Verizon that means its picking up sprint, I think the biggest issue your going to run into is that It needs to be provisioned before data will work and you can't do that in cm6 I would try a sense Rom first then try cm6

Guys, I have a GUIDE that is about switching from Sprint-> PagePlus (pageplus would be the better option here) just search for my threads by me. I have everything working using it with CM6. In the guide even have the ERI/APN settings for PagePlus
I have flashed the southpaw odex 2.1 rom and copied over the apn and did the qpst programming. Still stuck on roaming and no data. My phone information currently:
baseband:2.32.40.11.09
PRI:2.20_003
PRL:51893
I have tried the PRL's in the sprinttopageplus guide and still roaming and no data.
I can still make calls and text.
I tried pst programming earlier to try to match settings in another verizon android based phone. I may have messed up the pst programming and got stupid and did not back up. Anyone have a qcn file for the hero working on verizon/pageplus?
bowb, make sure that setting applied match those that I outlined, also in the package thre should be two prl files, one will be used adn it will get data and it will force it to 1x, after teh 1x (it reset the a-key) then use the other prl so that it enables EVDO, if used in reverse order=no data
If there is only 1 prl, then:
http://www.fortuneinyou.com/buddy/pageplus.prl
then
http://www.fortuneinyou.com/buddy/pageplus1.prl
The first prl gets me on the Verizon network without roaming and no data. The second prl I have no data and roaming. I'm getting closer. Thanks for the help.

it will always say roaming unless you use a CyanogenMOD/AOSP ROM, I always get that unless Im on those. I know it's a PITA. ensure that in your mobile network settings that data is enabled while roaming for a 2.1 rom.
TpyoKnig what PRI version are you using? Over on the Eris section when the 2.2 Leaked rom was installed it looks like a Verizon PRI was installed and there were issues with data. I think I might have the opposite. I think I may have a Sprint PRI and it is not working on Verizon. When I logcat the radio it does not compare to a phone working on Verizon and it even has 'Sprint' in the output. Or I may be completely wrong.
So I have change my PRI and it still does not work. I noticed I am getting a
Failed setting numeric '31172' to the current operator
This is a sprint operator code? I have tried changing this in build.props to 31004 which is verizon for the gsm.operator.numeric etc... but it keeps coming back.
Does this lead me down the rabbit hole?

sorry heres my info from bootloader:
Radio: 2.32.40.11.09
as far as the PRI if you arent referring to the radio, then I have the stock one that came with 2.1
I'm going to do a hard reset. Flash the Sprint 2.1 RUU to get my PRI back and try this radio. I see that it is a verizon radio so maybe that will get me some results. If this doesn't do it I probably have messed up my system programming.

Ok, in the guide that I made, it has the appropriate settings that need to be applied in EPST (##3282#) for data with PagePlus (verizon)
The phone I am trying to move from is a samsung reality. Is it possible it has a different way of making the data connection?
try a droid eris rom. It's pretty much the same thing as the hero but for verizon. Me if I was doing this I would ruu back to the 2.27.651.51.5 and set everything up in ##data. Use the verizon prl and then flash the radio. Then go from there.

same for both, buy why did you post 'hero on verizon' if here you explicitly state its a samsung..
I rooted and installed CM7 from stock for my Sprint Hero. When ever i make a local call, the phone company has a recording that says I need to enter the area code. Never had to do this before. Any ideas???
Also, will sprint sending me an OTA or reprovision the phone cause any problems with CM7???
FYI - The phone does not say I am roaming.
Thanks!!!

Never heard that one. I am pretty sure that the actual phone/dialer itself (aka radio) is entirely unaffected by a ROM. My guess is something went weird in how you rooted. Could you provide more details, maybe someone will recognize a step you missed or something. Also, if you are on CM7 sprint will not be able to send you anything, since the access they need/you need to do stuff like that is integrated with the sense framework. I would say on that front, either RUU or nand back to stock if you have that and work with sprint to resolve the issue, then reroot/flash etc.
If you dial the area code does it work? I will say that ever since I have had a cell phone I've been 10 digit dialing. I'm sure a lot of things could cause that but I'm not aware of anything rom specific that would cause it. You could try flashing the rom over itself but I would think this would be more than likely something specific to your area. Someone else may have more specific answers regarding reprovisioning but anything sprint could do to your phone specifically remotely would have mostly gone away with rooting and installing a custom rom. I could be wrong on that part but they certainly lose some ability to update a phone or we'd all still be stock.
~maybe I set it too high...
