we can write stuff into the card in our phone, but not by connecting to the PC then choose Mass Storage / Kies to copy file over there
I can write things by taking the card out of my phone and put it in pc and copy things over but when i connect my phone to pc i can't transfer anything across.

There's a workaround. Not a good one, but at least it works. You can get full r/w access to the external sd card from within Kies, with the horrible Kies file-explorer.

Nope, the external card is still r/o when seen through USB storage in windows
tried changing the permissions in root explorer as well, no joy.
There is a easy way how to solve this. Plug in the cable, select Kies (on the phone), u dont have to run kies on your PC, after the Kies is running on your phone, on your pc there should be mobile phone connected, go there and there are both cards(in, ext) and u can use them.
i also have the same problem with the sd card :/

Title says it all. I unmounted as I should have before turning off USB storage, but when I unplugged the USB cable, it said I have a damaged SD card and that I may need to format it. I hit the OK to format and nothing happened. I tried rebooting and nothing happens. I'm rooted with CM 3.9.7 mod, A2SD, etc. I've tried flashing the recovery, etc, but it can't mount the SD card and so fails. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

do you have a card reader for your computer?
No card reader for my computer.
do you have another phone or device that you can put your sd card in and connect to your computer
yeah, a Dash.
I've run into this problem before. Rebooting the phone. without selecting the format usually fixes it. I think it just happens when the SD card fails to unmount properly.
If you have an update.zip on the SD Card..try applying it through the recovery menu. If it says it fails to mount the SD Card over and over, then your SD Card probably is actually damaged.

Is there any way to fix the card? Like I said, I've got an HTC Dash running WM6 that I can put the card into and connect to the computer. Is there anything to be done?
try to format it from the dash through computer, but im not familiar with dashes
I think I may have figured it out a bit.
The Dash wouldn't recognize the 8GB SDHC, but I fortunately still had the original 1GB, which it did recognize. I was able to transfer the CM 3.9.7 onto it and boot in recovery mode and reload the update.zip file. I'm currently booting up and once that's done, I'll do what is necessary to put my 8GB card in, format it and then try to make everything work again. Suggestions?
you want to use the 3.97? that rom is still experimental. maybe you should use the 3.6.8.1 rom

My plan succeeded! I'm now waiting for the Market to let me download my apps again. It let me download a couple, but stopped for some reason. It's happened before, so I'm not too worried. If I should be, let me know. Thanks.
ok sounds good
For some reason, Google Talk was disabled. I enabled it and voila, everything's all good!
Does anyone know why Android would see the sd card as damaged and the card be fine?
Like I turnoff usb storage and then it will not use the card but if I reboot into recovery I can mount it and copy files fine as well as put it in a card reader and it is fine there too?
Any ideas on how to fix this without a complete format?
Happened to me too once. Everything looked fine even in recovery. My pc could recognize files when I mounted and everything. But in phone it said damaged SD card.
I copied all files to pc, reformatted and all is well...
since there is no damage to the card there has to be another way to do it though. That is what I am saying.

Not sure how much your card worth for you but if I where you I would take the 5 minute and remove the card backup and format it...
Flash can easily get corrupted it usually happen when you move the card from one device to another without proper stopping and even for no reason at all!
Can you explain me why you think the card is good if the hardware tell otherwise ???
The first time I rebooted my Nexus One it told me the card was unreadable and offered to format it. Since there's no way (I can see?) to remove the card without removing the battery, I rebooted the phone, put it in my laptop, ran a filesystem check, no problems. Put it back in the phone and booted, haven't seen the problem since.

Because my computer has no problems with card at all. Data can be moved around and read just fine. Just the phone thinks there is a problem. I am guess that something is telling android there is a problem when no other device sees it. That is why I believe the card is fine.
Same problem here, let me know if you've found a solution
i've had that same problem. just fully formatted it..16GB card.
Hi,
My phone is not able to detect my SD card, All i did was copy a file from a friends laptop using HTC Desire HD data cable... Now my phone wont detect the SD card... Internal memory is detected normally... The SD card is detected normally on my friends Phone, however its not working on mine...
I though it was a software issue, so I reflashed stock JVQ and then Darky's ROM however it still wont show... Any other SD card is detected normally on my Phone, however mine wont get detected no matter what i do...
Any ideas what happened... I only copied a video file... I've even deleted the file and tried however it still doesn't work...
Pls Help!!!
have you checked to see if the card is mounted?
Did u try rescan sdcard?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Press thanks if this helps
Does it read in a PC?
If so copy contents off onto PC, reformat SD card as FAT32, then copy contents back over.
Try to format the card on your PC.

I've got the card formatted on my friends phone and then gave it an shot... however it still didn't work... Not sure what else can be done... any other card works fine...
What company and class is your sd card?
same problem.
I've had the same problem. It seems to occur when you disconnect the USB cable from you're phone while files are being transferred. Though I've also had this problem multiple times when the USB cable wasn't even connected to my phone.
You can try to use a microSD-to-usb-converter to backup the files and format it with 'SD Formatter 3.0' from sdcard.org (I'm not permitted to post links yet). Then try to format the microSD again with you're phone and it should work. I recommend you don't put any backupped files back on your microSD since they could have corrupted the microSDcard's filesystem.

If you don't find other solution, put the card in an adaptor and just copy them to the PC.
Have you by chance deleted a folder called external SD from your memory card, coz it formats your sd card. Try recovering files from sd card through connecting it via some other usb card reader.
there are programs, that can save the photos even if you format a disk or in this case a sd card...
let me find one for you,,,, don't know if it works...read in here...
http://www.easeus.com/resource/sd-card-format-recovery.htm.
of course there must be other programs better and free, I really don't know if this easeus is of any good...
never tried...
you must have a sd card reader in your pc of course...
thx guys
i tried to use other adapter and i find no change as i still can not found the sd card via pc.
i sure that i have not delete the file of external SD, it keep showing Blank SD on my 4x.
i am really frustrated about that...:crying:
Maybe sdcard got corrupted. Try formating the card from your phone if it gives you the option. I dont think this will be repeated.
sad..
in fact i dun care about do the sd card can function after all.
i just wonder can i get back my file:crying::crying:

may be your sd card has corrupted or it is fake, how long are you using it?
once i bought a fake 16gb card it worked good for few days and then the same situation as you are in. and i found no solution to recovery my files as it becomes strange, files are there but you can't use them anymore, can't delete them or copy them.
try using some partition manager after inserting your card into your pc and check if your card is there, and it's status.
if your card is fake, i have no solution,
if it's corrupted, it can be brought back to life by formatting or using other partition recovery tools i think.
i dun know whether it is fake or not, but i have used it for around half a year already.
i dun care whether it can come alive i just want to get back my data.
today i have send the sd card to a engineer, he said he fix it but it cost a large amount of money and i am not able to afford it.
and then he recover the sd card to the original situation.
it means that there must be a solution for it.
can anyone help:crying:
i had the same problem too. my 32GB went on and off after i dropped it from 1 meter high.
i used these two recover as much as my files as possible.

but still be prepared to not be able to recover anything at all.
Hi, I'm having this issue: I have stock camera configured to save photos to the external SD card and it usually works fine, but lately sometimes the camera is taking the photo but not saving to the card, without noticing. If I restart the device everything is fine until eventually it fails again.
Is someone having this problem? Thank you
Have you tried with a different SD card? Just to be sure yours is not faulty.

Remove all the data from the card and format it in windows, not quick format.
Put the card back in the phone, format it again in setting/storage, then move your data back on.
If this doesn't fix it buy a new card.
Today the card was damaged after mounting and unmounting and even the Pc didn't show the content. I recovered the data with the command chkdsk and now I'm testing using it with the phone. In the case that I have problems again I'll format and hope that I don't need to change it.

You need to turn your phone off before you pull the card out, likewise for putting it back in.

But there is an option to mount and unmount the micro sd, and a notification that say that is safe to extract the card.
Anyway I think that my problems began when I inserted a USB drive attached to an OTG adapter. I don't know why are mount and unmount operations offered if they don't work properly.
Thank you.

You can check your SD card by connecting it to a different device and see if it is corrupted or not. Also when your SD card is not being recognized in PC after connecting your SD card to your PC, assign a new drive letter to this connected card through your operating system settings.
Also please check that your Stock Camera firmware is upgraded since the concerned case could be a case of camera-card incompatibility also.

Thank you but chkdsk to recover data and then formatting was the solution. So far is working fine.
