N1 on TV by HDMI cable - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It is possible to use this cable to show NexusOne screen on TV?
Samsung Cable

It's similar to HTC's micro usb to hdmi cable for the incredible.
It won't work by just plugging it in but I don't see why it couldn't be made to work once we get the Galaxy S source/kernel/rom

It won't work, because there is no HW to support it. If there was - Desire and Evo would be sold with video out option.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=738754
[edit] For a full-scale USB2HDMI dongle support - there needs to be USB OTG support in the kernel, and it's not there yet. For HDMI out over USB you need HW in the phone, which isn't there. And the third option is a device which is USB master and needs a driver in the phone - I don't think this or Incredible's cable is such device.

HTC Advantage 4 - 1 Cable, Not Working??

Hiya,
I just got my cable from expansys, the vga and s-video out is working fine, but i haven't got any thing usb to work yet. I've tried flash Drives and a card reader, just no response, no light or any thing... is there a trick to it or is it not very compatable or is there a chance mine is faulty?
cheers
My guess is that although it is a Host, it does not supply any power, I say this because the battery is only 3.7 V DC and USB devices are 5 V DC, this means that there is not enough Volts in the advantage to power a USB device to start with, never mind powering a USB device and an Advantage at the same time.
You will probably need to plug it into a USB hub that supplies it's own power, like this one
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USB-2-0-4-Por...106823769QQcategoryZ96866QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I had the same problem but it was because the TV out was still on. Once I turned this off in the settings menu it worked fine.
I too had no trouble hooking up a flash drive. No other peripherals were attached to the cable. Alas, no go on a hard-drive MP3 player, but trying a powered hub is a good idea.
Have you tried connecting your USB device, and then soft resetting?
Works for me.
I have no detection of USB devices by my Advantage.
I tried with and withour Soft Reset before and after the cable connection, before and after the cable and flash drive connection, with or without the VGA or Video Output disabled or enabled, but my Advantage does not recognize any USB device (I tried with 2 flash drive, a keyborad and an optical mouse. Nothing to do. These devices do not work with my Advantage).
It seems that the relative drivers are missing.
Someone has a sure fix or solution to this problem ??
Thanks
Battery Powered USB Hub...
This device should work well with the x7500/Advantage. It doesn't require you to carry around a bulky power plug. It runs off of 4 AAA batteries and provides power for up to 4 USB devices. Since the x7500/Advantage has limited power and can't power external drives itself, this is a nice addition and cheap. Hope someone finds it useful.

I have the Dopod U1000. I have connected a thumb drive and a USB mouse without issue. The mouse is useless as far as I can tell as there is no pointer though the buttons work.
I have no problems with a T-Mobile Ameo and a 1Gb Corsair USB Flashdrive - don't even need a soft reset. It's listed as 'Hard Disk' on the Ameo.
Question though: can I just unplug it when done? I'm used to 'safely removing hardware' on the PC, and it just feels wrong unplugging it from the Ameo, but I can't see any similar 'safely remove' method.
Hi.
It depends of the usb device. My 1GB pen drive is recognized but my 4GB isnt recognized (my 160 GB isnt). So I suppose If the usb device isnt powered then only "very low powered" devices are recognized...
If I connect my 160 GB and I plug it to AC then It is recognized correctly...
Does mini usb-usb host cable exist? Where to buy it?

seems to be what I'm looking for...don't you?

Search the forum for the Modaco Mouse driver. It has a mouse pointer and works flawlessly with a USB Mouse!

Hi,
I have the HTC 4 in 1 cable for the T-Mobile Ameo (HTC Advantage 7500) and the ability to access a USB thumbdrive or stick appears to depend on the device.
The following devices worked without a hitch:
- Kingston DataTraveler 1GB
- Q motion 1 GB
- SanDisk MobileMate SD+ (This a SD card reader in a USB stick format, very handy to copy data from a SD/miniSD/microSD card to your 7500 without going through Activesync)
Another noname USB stick that I had did not work.
So the trick is to find a low powered USB stick.
Cheers,
Tim
Please can someone give me some exaples about how could I use
Video/S-Video/ option in 4 in 1 cable, considering that I can image how to properly use VGA out and USB host?
THX so much!
Hi,
before I buy it, could it work?
USB 2.0 (compatible 1.x)
Adapter USB from Type A (female) to mini USB 5pin (male)
THX so much!

Yes, that should work for you. I'm sure it's not more than $5.00 USD. ;-)

Are you hoping to connect USB accessories to your Athena with this?
If so, it will not work.
Only the 4 in 1 Host cable connected to the ext USB socket will do that.
This adaptor will only connect to the Sync & Charge socket, and will not provide USB Host capabilities.

So it will not provide me host function...?
Than the HTC cable should have something like a "chip" in it to provide host, is it right?
Yes, the USB Host chip must be either in the addon cable, or linked to the extUSB socket in the Athena. But definitely not the sync & charge socket.

HOST USB or USB HDMI Video Card ? Any way to use usb port to use usb devices ?

Usb port is it locked or there is possibility to use it like usb host ?
To manage copy pictures of a camera to phone without pc by usb adaptator.
Samsung talked about usb 2 hdmi cable and think if its real it use some usb video card supported by phone(because of physic material imcompatibily of hdmi nd usb)
May there is a way to dev a tool or hack to get it works...
Aah!! Finally somebody like minded!!
I had been scouring forums for something like this. USB OTG would be an excellent add on to this phone. If not OTG, at least host would be an excellent idea.
No idea whether the existing USB Host driver for Nexus one would work on this one.
The processor on SGS already supports USB Host (not sure about OTG though). This has been pointed out in their press release - w w w .samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/newsView.do?news_id=1043
I am just wondering - should we request Samsung themselves via mass petition to open up this feature on SGS?
some USB devices might be compatible, like the 100/1000 Mbps USB to RJ45 plugs
those same ones works in Windows Mobile it should work as well for Android, however a driver will be required.
mouse and keyboard support should work out of the box
external USB keys for storage, or even USB mass storage devices should work out of the box as well.
usb audio... hmm... not sure what else at the moment
Hi AllGamer
Thanks for the reply. So how exactly do we get this going on SGS?
I am much more interested in having USB HDD support on SGS (hopefully without an ext power source - am I asking for too much? ).
Are you suggesting that the N1 fix should work here also? Can somebody help us with a "How To" to enable this on SGS?
Cheers!!
Coooolboyz
you can plug in any USB mass storage devices (USB hard drives) and it should work.
However, you might not get enough power from the usb port, you'll still need need power cord for your external usb hard drive.
I know on my HTC windows phones works like that, it should be the same for Android.
I'll try that when i get a chance.
you just a need a USB female to a mini USB male cable
yep!! you are right about power!!! I am trying to get a cable - hopefully in couple of weeks should have this.
but I am wondering if all this would work without proper drivers in it. Would SGS have USB HDD drivers in it already?

I can see one problem, You will only be able to use Fat32 drives unless someone compiles NTFS / HFS+ into the kernel. Ext3/4 is already done so I don't see many problems. What I recommend you do is get some sort of adaptor for Female USB > Micro USB and test it out with a flash stick or you can hack one .
Yeah - I understand the difficulties of having NTFS support outside the MS world.
I didnt know that ext3/4 were already a part of the kernel!! Is this by default available in all Android kernels?
For USB Host cable - I am guessing that this one can be used - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250671106072 (same as what Sven used for N1 USB Host capabilities).
But I seriously doubt plug and play would work (that would be too much of an expectation! )
Does any body have that cable here, who can check out if SGS does actually work in USB Host/OTG mode?
Sven has try with a Galaxy another Host Driver
h t t p : / / sven.killig.de/android/Galaxy/
Hm what can we do with these files?
However, any news about this?
Maybe, we could ask some Galaxy S kernel developers about this.

USB audio

For the audiophiles among you, I confirm that the Tab S 8.4 is USB audio capable. My HRT microstreamer USB DAC works perfectly.
What about analog usb audio is that supported too?
Sent from my GT-N7105 using Tapatalk
Andriod is getting really good support with usb OTG
my amazon.com/dp/B000KW2YEI/ref=pe_385040_30332190_TE_dp_1 Behringer UCA202 Audio Interface Works with both the tab s 8.4 and my s5
also my PS3 controller works via usb otg
USB hubs work as well; now I just need a way to charge the tablet while using usb otg
That is what I am looking after to.
If I only could get my eyes on a service manual I will find a way to charge while OTG is enabled.

There are many Y cables on eBay that allow charging and otg use at the same time. I find it's a bit hit and miss, as some don't work while others do
We might find some info on this in the kernel source as well.
The table for USB Id should say the resistor value needed for the combination that gives charging and USB OTG at the same time.
I'll see if I can find out which module in the kernel that does USB ID sensing.

OnePlus 3T out video to monitor via hdmi

I want to connect a 27 inch monitor or projector.
From the official support says (ticket #770598, from Sky) that phone 3T supports out video via HDMI
I understand that you wanted to know if OnePlus 3T supporte USB to HDMI. I can provide you with the information that you needed.
I would like to inform you that OnePlus 3T supports HDMI as long as it is connected to the OTG cable/ converter.

Phone have usb type c version 2.
My questions:
1. This phone is really support hdmi alt mode? I don't see the image HDMI (or DisplayPort or Thunderbolt) alternat mode on the box.
2. If (1) is true. Any cable good for me? Ex. usb type c multiport adapter from apple store or necessarily with OTG?
3. How big is the latency video of through miracast (ex. ezcast)? If connect mouse and watch on cursor movement.
I tried this yesterday with a USB C to Hdmi adapter I got off Amazon and I had no luck connecting to the monitor.

Thans for the reply
I think they sold me a dud
Phone not supports MHL and other alt. mode
II wonder if a driver could be put into a ROM to support it via USB OTG since it doesn't support MHL?
I have an old external sound card, a Creative Xmod, that works perfectly with my roommates USB C, OTG adaptor.

I think because it is not implemented in hardware in the phone
If I'm correct Display Port alternate output requires USB Type-C 3.1 since the phone supports only 2.0 it shouldn't work. However not many phones utilise this feature even Google Pixel doesn't use this mode
Video out works fine on the 3T but only with Displaylink adapters. (So far anyway)
I have one and can confirm it definitely works either via HDMI or HDMI to DVI (I've tried both)
I used this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N40RQV4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
but any displaylink adapter or dock will work. (Make sure it very specifically says dispaylink, check the displaylink website if you aren't sure)
The only note is that displaylink says the Ethernet ports on the docks do not work with android.
(I suspect they might work on devices that support a regular Ethernet adapter though, I haven't been able to get a normal Ethernet adapter working on my oneplus 3t though for what that's worth.)
you will also need the displaylink app from the playstore though it does not have to be running.
if any of you have experience using an external Audio DAC with USB Audioplayer pro the process is very similar.
Once you plug the monitor in, a pop up will ask if you want to let the displaylink app control the adapter and if you hit "ok" it does the rest automatically.
Does the phone charge while connected to the DisplayLink adapter?
Just try with Chromecast or anything else with Mirascreen option
Does it work with Anker Premium USB-C Mini-Dock
Hi there everybody:
Have anyone tried to connect a dock like the Anker Premium USB-C Mini-Dock, Does OP3T work for charge and to view the USB ports of the dock? May be HDMI and Ethernet doesn't work but for me the matter is the chargue and the USB ports to connect an external DAC, a microsd and a pendrive. Regards.

USB Audio

I'm thinking about using an Amazon Fire 7 inch tablet as a car radio dashboard install, but before I commit to buying one, I can't seem to find any conclusive answers on a few things.
Firstly, does the fire output USB audio so I can use a USB dac?
And if so, is it possible to use a Y split cable for USB audio and charging at the same time?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I can confidently say this Fire like most other Amazon devices will not support charging while the USB port is being used for any other function. Can't speak to USB audio out (suspect not) as most go with Bluetooth.

It does seem to be a difficult feature to find on Android tablets.
According to Wikipedia, it's a simple implementation of a USB otg cable that should allow charging on any usb otg device.
USB Otg Wiki
The major problem (presuming the cable does work and usb audio is possible) is that the kernel needs to be able to enable USB otg at the same time as charging.

Yep. The stock kernel on most consumer devices don't have robust OTG support as the most commonly used gizmo is a flash drive. I was able to get a OTG GPS receiver to work but it wasn't plug-n-play by any means. Charging didn't work in that context...although I didn't fiddle with it much.
I've been working on a kinda similar project, I just haven't had time. I'm trying to use my fire as an octoprint server, which is a program that monitors and controls 3d printers. The problem is that it requires usb to be connected to the printer, while also staying powered on. What I'm going to try is remove the battery, step down 12v from the printer to 3.7v and just hack it onto where the battery would connect to the pcb. I'm not sure what the different pins on the battery connector are though, so I'll have to test those. Otherwise, it should work.
