How to Flash F/W after bricking my phone - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Well i'm new here and i had a little problem with my new Samsung Galaxy S i9000. Today i wanted to flash my phone but after the first time my 3G connection wouldn't work. So after that i did a second try but this time something went wrong and i pulled the cable of the phone (i know u shouldn't do that!). Now when i start up my phone it shows a picture that i need to connect my phone to my computer. But when i do that trying to reflash it, it takes ages and nothing happens, Odins shows only these Command lines and nothing more even after 15 minutes:
<ID:0/004> Added!!
<ID:0/004> Odin v.3 engine (ID:4)..

I tried al kind things like these follow:
20.WHAAAA! I think I bricked my phone. My flash was unsuccessful/My device boots to a black screen/similar scenarios. Can I still save my device?
Most likely: YES! In almost any case, you should still be able to turn off the device (if necessary by removing the battery) and start into download-mode (VolumeDown+Home+Power) or recovery-mode (VolumeUp+Home+Power). After (for example) an unsuccessful flash, you can retry the flash in download-mode (same steps as when flashing a functioning device). If a flash to a function f/w (without apply any update.zip) doesn't help or you cannot get you PC to flash at all, you can ask for help here. (Please try to reboot your PC as well if you cannot flash and try FAQ8 if you have trouble with getting the phone recognized on Windows 7/Vista x64)
If you see a symbol asking you to connect to the PC, depending on how you arrived at this point, it may be sufficient to connect to the PC and run Odin (i.e. press "start" when the phone is recognized) without adding any files. This may, however, leave some residual issues if (for example) had an incorrect/incomplete flash so you may want to do a normal flash after this!

But still nothing works, but though i still can get the phone into download mode, Recovery mode (VolumeUp+Home+Power let me show the sign that i need my phone connect to the Pc).
Please help me i really could use some help with this!

Wait, what? So you're saying that the first time you flashed, everything worked but you forgot to put the correct APN settings from settings menu to enable 3G. If so,

it's hard to brick the phone.
I tried repartition the storage, while flash an small flash file, so in theory, a "clean" partition of storage w/o any kernel and what not, and I could still flash the f/w.
that said, when it happens to me (when it's an empty partition), the phone will appear not to be boot up, and then you may find yourself not being able to go into download mode. chances are, the phone might appear to be power off, but its probably in a panic mode at the previous boot up, so there's no way you can change to download mode.
just take out the battery, leave it for 30s-1min, and then put battery back and then do the volumne down + home button + power button to bring the phone into the download mode.

RTFFAQFFS!

I managed to get my SGS back to life after taken my battery out for like 2 minutes or more...
I'm flashing atm and still working great!
Now i need only make shore that my modem (3g connection) will work, last time i couldn't set my settings back for APN.
But still a question here,
Does anybody knows the best working firmware for europe, The Netherlands?
Thanks for the help Guys!!! i really do!

[Q] Bricked Verizon tab, black screen of death after trying to flash stock firmware

Well, I've bricked my three week old Verizon galaxy tab trying to flash the stock firmware back to the device to try and get the recent Verizon update working, which has been failing consistently. I've thoroughly read through every thread on the forum I could about the black screen of death, so I understand there's a good chance I'm pretty screwed here. I have a couple more questions on the subject, but I understand that I might not be able to get answers for them past the information that's already available.
I'll start by describing my setup and how the flashing process went wrong. I was using the stock Verizon ROM with Boushh's Voodoo Plus kernel v3, converted to ext4 of course. After the recent Verizon update failed to install on my Tab I followed through all the suggestions on the CDMA VZW Tab update thread, downloaded the update zip, put it on the sdcard, ran from rescue manager, unrooted, reflashed stock, wiped data and cache, re-ran from rescue manager at first boot... nothing worked. Things went really wrong when I tried flashing the entire ROTO backup of the Verizon stock ROM. I had the bright idea of setting up Heimdall to flash every file of the backup it had a slot for, including the pit file, zImage in kernel and recovery, factoryfs, param.lfs, cache.rfs, dbdata.rfs, modem.bin, boot.bin in primary bootloader slot and sbl.bin in secondary bootloader slot. When I pressed the start button it grayed out and nothing was happening. I waited a few minutes and finally turned the tab off. When I turned it back on again and tried to put it in download mode, the phone -x- computer logo showed up which freaked me out as I've never seen it before. Still, the computer did recognize the tab as composite USB device and so, unwittingly, I tried flashing with heimdall again. The flash went along perfectly well, but when it was finished both heimdall and the tab just hung there. I waited a few more minutes and turned off the tab again. After that it never turned on again. My questions, based on what I've read about the black screen of death so far are these:
* I've seen it suggested that the tab be left to drain for days or weeks, but not many reports that this worked out in the end. My battery was at about 45% percent when this whole thing went down. Should I even bother waiting? My only alternative at this point is to send the thing to Samsung for repairs which breaks my heart. Verizon won't replace it as I've had it for over two weeks.
* Could a homemade USB jig help me in this situation? I have some soldering experience but I heard that it won't help if the screen won't turn on. Ideally I'd buy it online, but I couldn't find one for the Galaxy Tab on ebay.
That's it I guess, but any information you can offer pertaining to this problem would be appreciated. Thanks!
to be honest, i do not know why people think they can brick the tab.......the only way is to throw it from a building.
Just go to overcome forum and follow this (i 'bricked' my tab a 1000 times):
IF your Tab does not boot after flashing the kernel and hangs at the Samsung Galaxy Tab screen, you must follow the following procedure
1.Get a stock rom package (any of Rotohammer's firmwares will work)
2.Get P1_add_hidden.zip attached to this post and extract the P1_add_hidden.pit file
3.Using Odin 1.7, put stock rom (Roto-JME-Full-v4.tar for example) in PDA slot.
4.Put P1_add_hidden.pit in Pit slot
5.Check repartition box
6.Put Tab in download mode by holding Volume Down and Power, connect to the computer, and press start.
7.After this, the Tab will reboot normally. Shut it down and return to download mode.
you also get the link for the p1 file you need.......easy
This sounds like very useful information, thank you. I'll definitely do this if I can get the Tab to respond to anything I do, which I can't so far. It won't turn on regardless of what volume button I press or not press. I'm pretty sure I had it connected to the PC while trying to put it in download mode just to see if it would be recognized as USB device despite the screen not turning on, but I'll try again to make sure when I get home.
Edit: Yeah, no luck. Not recognized as a USB device, which makes sense seeing as the screen doesn't even turn on.
I am having the same issue... My daughter put my computer to sleep while I was flashing back to stock using heimdall. Any luck getting your Tab to power on?

If your tab is showing any sign of life then you are not bricked and just need to keep at it until you find a solution. When you have exhausted all other resources you can send it off to get it fixed. I ended up bricking my tab when a flash was interrupted to the point that there was no sign of life at all. I found someone here who could fix it for $50 and had it back within the week working as it should. I highly recommend his service as a last resort.
His screen name is connexion2005 and here is a link to his profile.

[Q] Phone, Exclamation Triangle, PC - No Download mode

I'm really sorry, I searched for solutions but didnt found one that fits my problem.
I'm a total newbie and ****ed up my phone in many ways. I started trying to install something it wasnt suposed to work on my phone (rom destinated to 9000 and stuff). I have a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000b (sold to latin amarica) and came from factory with android 2.2.
I'm now stuck with the black screen of death, no matter what I do I get this screen. It hapened after I tryied to install unsucessfully the original rom of the phone and odin presented me with an error.
Before I try any further I'd like your advices as how to procede regarding my 9000b. Pulling the battery out, putting it in again and holding either vol down or both volumes and either pluging the phone on usb or pressing power allways gives me the same result, the screen with phone exclamation triangle and pc.
So, before I buy a jig cable on ebay that will probably take 3 weeks to get here (Brasil) is there anything else I can try?
Please help me, I'm desperate and I dont want to take it to assistence, it would cost me much money and ruin all my courage in trying to use Roms.
Thanks alot and sorry for the bad english.
so did you have the 3 button combination before this happened ??
have you tried to charge the phone whilst powered off, then when the phone gets hot, try download mode then ? sometimes this works, as heat can help download mode work.
another thing that has worked for SOME people, is leaving the battery out for 10mins, doing the 3 button combo, and whilst holding the 3 buttons, insert the battery.
you could try these and see what happens,
And 3 weeks delivery for the JIG is a long time, couldnt you make one in less that 3 weeks.
If you can't get into download mode, you are screwed until you get your hands on a jig, simple as that. Just wait. Patience is a virtue.
Thanks in advance for the quick reply guys, I ordered the jig, estimated 20 days, usualy it takes the same amount from the central postal ofice to my home since they allways restrict packages from hong kong. I'm considering making one but I'm a total denial in eletronics.
I was able to get to download mode before this problem yes. I would just hold down vol and center key and then power. Now even when I plug it in to charge I get the screen with the exclamation.
Any more sugestions?
no other suggestions other than whats listed above
looks like you will have to wait for the JIG to arrive.
Loner-phone here you come lol
Then I have a couple of questions.
1) Since I plut it in directly on the power and still recive the same screen is the phone still charging? Or once the battery is over I'm ****ed up twice?
2) Is there any chance that the jig wont work or I in some way ****ed up my I-9000b permanently?
3) After I make/get a jig how should I procede? I heard about one-click odin, but apears that its for another model of phone, and since I got on all this trouble exactly for trying to do things to my phone that were suposed to be only for another model, I'm kind of lost.
Inputs?
Thank you all for already awnsering my questions.
1) the system is corrupted so the charging indicator will be too - thus leading to Phone ! PC image - this is the only image the phone can now produce
2) The 'JIG' has a 100% success rate - providing that the motherboard is not fried - which it isnt as it still shows an image
3) the jig is just a modified USB, just plug it into the phone whilst powered off and download mode will appear, and then you just attach your genuine USB cable and flash stock ROM thru ODIN.
azzledazzle Thank you very much for your patience, but since I`m a total newbie to all this, some of your awnsers I didnt understood fully, do you care explain me better?
Regarding question 1) The power indicator is corrupted, ok. But this means if my battery die out of usage it wont charge again or just that the indicator wont show that is charging but the battery actualy is charging?
and for question 3) Is ther any tutorial directed to I-9000 on how to use odin to flash a stock ROM ? like baby steps? After all that I'm even afraid to turn the phone on, so I would like to know exactly what to do. I`m cosindering asking someone with technical skills to help me on a home made jig.
oh im sorry, i get carried away sometimes.
1) i assume the battery will be charging yes. only the phone will not be able to show this due to the corruption.
2) when you have made / bought a JIG (link below) you ideally want to flash a Stock ROM, you can get this from samfirmware (link below) and also on this site is a tutorial on how to use ODIN, its fairly easy if you just read the instructions provided.
JIG: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819551&page=3
Firmwares : www.samfirmware.com
ODIN download and guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846913
Its a miracle, somehow I managed to get into download mode. But I'm still a bit insecure
Here is the deal, I dowloaded a .tar file that alledgedly from my carrier and for my country. The tar is named JPA_JP3_JPA.
Inside the file there are cache.rfs factoryfs.rfs modem.bin param.lfs zimage
But what should I put where on ODIN if I only have PIT PDA PHONE and CSC?
And how can I discover if I should use pit 512 or 803?
Should I consider a master clear setting?
the file you downloaded is a full firmware compressed into 1 .tar file.
so in odin load the .tar file into PDA section and THATS IT !!
DO NOT USE PIT WITH THIS FILE.
press start and enjoy
PS do a factory reset after the flash

Hello all!
I've got my hands on a GT-I9000 today.
It's got 2.3.3 Android on it.
Wanting to install CM7, I was first of all trying to root it.
I'm on Mac OS X 10.6.8, thus I downloaded heimdall-frontend and the "Hardcore's SpeedMod kernel with ClockworkMod Recovery".
When I put my phone into DL Mode and connect it to my Mac, I can't write the image to it.
Heimdall is failing with "Failed to receive device info response!"
What do you ppl suggest me to do now?
Thanks,
F.

Indeed I now managed to get Windows XP PC.
one trouble still remains: after rooting the device remains in an infinite reboot loop!!!
It only stops when WiFi is disabled.
Any help bout this?
Or at least any means to get back to a factory ROM?
I got 2.3.3 before flashing...
Thanks!
Try to flash the nightly again, should solve the bootloop-issue.
Or you can wipe cache/dalvik cache, this helped me too.

[Q] HELP! Fully bricked NEW Galaxy S?

Hello... just got a Galaxy S new and I think I have fully bricked it.
It was on 2.2 stock and I installed Darkys v10.1 extreme rom on it following the steps in this guide..
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/i...-darkyrom-gingerbread-jvh-noob-friendly.3080/
I first installed
- Ficeto_JVH_I9000_Odin:
- DarkyROM_v10.1:
and installed the PIT and PDA.
I decided that I didn't like Darkys and tried to install Cyanogenmod 7 on it..
my friend said I needed to install a PIT first, then install a JPY rom afterwards.
I used Odin 1.3 and selected this pit "s1_odin_20100512"
and I think I pressed Re-Partition as previously in the guide that was what they did..
Auto reboot and F. Reset time were both ticked
This was the log
<ID:0/003> File analysis..
<ID:0/003> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/003> Initialzation..
<ID:0/003> Set PIT file..
<ID:0/003> DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!!
<ID:0/003> Get PIT for mapping..
<ID:0/003> Firmware update start..
<ID:0/003> Removed!!
<ID:0/003> Completed..
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 1 / failed 0)
How can I save my new baby?!!!
When I mean bricked, I don't think it turns on at all...... doesn't light up or enter recovery.
Most ironic is, I bricked it relatively easily when people said it's virtually unbrickable.
!!!!!!!!
You may never flash just a pit file!!!
You only use it when you flash a 3file rom.
That's the same for repartition.
If you can get it in download mode, everything is fine.
Else your screwed...
A sgs is virtually unbrickable if you had flashed it correctly.
When you don't know how to flash always follow a tut!!!

I never realised you could just use a .pit without the rest.
The .pit file isn't "installed" it is a file which tells the system how to wipe and then repartition the memory in your phone. Essentially you wiped the phone without installing anything on it after that. I am not sure if it wipes the bootloaders as well (at the very least it has partially wiped them if recovery is not working)
If you can get download mode to work, then you should be alright. If it doesn't work, a jig may or may not help. If you can not get download mode to work, then you have no other recourse than to send it back for repairs. They will need to replace the erased bootloaders if this is the case.
If on the other hand you do manage to get it to work, read very carefully the process that is actually involved in flashing firmwares with odin/heimdall. Yes it is very hard to permanently brick your phone if you know what you are doing. Hell in most cases even if you don't know what you're doing it's hard to permanently brick your phone. You went ahead and did one of the few things that is a danger area though. In general though, you should not repartition (ie use the .pit file) unless necessary (although repartitioning wont really do anything bad it's completely unneeded in most cases) and don't flash boot-loaders unless necessary. NEVER repartition without flashing a rom with it.

Thanks for your long and detailed explanation of what I have exactly done..
I had kind of guessed by now of what I have done.. which is very unfortunate as like you said, "I never realised you could just use a .pit without the rest. ".
Such a dangerous thing, I wouldn't have expected the software to allow me to do that
Instead of making a jig with resistors, I have read that you can cut a micro usb cable instead??
Would you be able to direct me to other resources or information on how to make one?
If a jig doesn't work, how much money am I looking at for someone to fix it?
Thank you very much,
Kind regards

USB JIG may be your only hope then.
but before you do that, take battery out for 5 mins. Then hold the 3 button combo for DOWNLOAD mode, THEN put the battery back in, STILL holding the 3 button combo.
and also, does the phone do anything when plugged in ?? no charging indicator or lights, vibrations ???

first of all CHILL OUT !! dont panic or you could make the same mistake.
Download this http://sourceforge.net/projects/teamhacksung/files/galaxys/GT-I9000_FROYO_FULL_PDA.tar/download
DO NOT use pit and DO NOT select re-partition
let me know the outcome, if the above firmware dont fix it, we need to get you a 3 file firmware THEN and only THEN do we add PIT and REPARTITION

Thanks for the encouraging words..
I'm downloading it now, 370mb?!
After download, do I use Odin 1.3 or 1.7 to flash the TAR and ONLY THE TAR?
BTW I'm with Windows 7 64 bit, I've seen guides saying 1.7 may not work perfectly... however It worked fine for me with installying Darkys rom..
i use 1.7 too, also running win 7 64 bit. no problems for me.
the firmware is a FULL FROYO including all dbdata's bootloaders, kernel the full monty
only insert the .tar file in the PDA section of odin.
it may not fix you completely, but it will restore most of the corruption, however we may need a 3 file firmware with PIT to fix the file system.
but we will cross that bridge when we need to

At the moment, I'm getting a "USB Device Not Recognized" notice with plugging it in..
right ok........
do you have kies installed on your PC ?? if you do uninstall it, and then re install it, this will re-install the drivers,
if you dont have kies, try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728929
Finally, when you are about to flash using odin MAKE SURE KIES IS **NOT** RUNNING, EVEN IN THE ICON TRAY.

What is your exact model number so i can give you correct files links ?
For example T-mobile note 4 has 3 models (SM-N910T / SM-N910T2 / SM-N910T3 .which 1 of these 3 you got?
You can simply check your model number by pressing 3 button combo while device is switched off (volume down+home+power) will boot into odin download mode press volume up to continue there you can see your device model number on top left corner.
It will be better if you can take a photo of your device while in odin download mode and and upload it so i can see what else will require to fix.
Let me know and I'll get back to you.

What kind of error pops up ?
Do factory reset 1 more time.after reset let phone completly cool down dont touch anything .
then you complete setup.
Use high speed microsd card if microsd card is not good it can cause issues and lag to whole device.
Download wake lock app from playstore and open the app you have to click on partial wake lock as shown in screenshot below.it will manage your cpu to run more efficient.
If issue still remains you have to erase old nandroid completly by using PIT FILE and repartion your internal memory to flash fresh nandroid.
Try first the things that i mention and use your device for 2 days.if it didnt work after that you can try erasing nandroid with my guide.

Hi I'm unable to connect my phone to pc unfortunately and Now I believe this is hardware problem as when I decided to get my phone unlocked the person who was unlocking couldn't connect either so he'd suggested me that it's a hardware problem and couple of days later I was able to connect to PC till today. so I think I won't be able to perform repartition my phone until and unless I get my connectivity back. Thank You so much for your help anyway. I'd definitely give it a try as soon as I get my connectivity back and will update you.
Thanks

I just tired, and nothing worked out. the place where I took my phone to unlock he actually changed the charging and connecting port to check if it's port problem but the result was same until it gets back connectivity on it's own. I just changed the cable reset phone couple of times. It's not even connecting as a media device.

Is my phone bricked or is there a way out of this?

Backstory:
Friday morning I woke up to find my phone was off. I had fallen asleep watching netflix the night before.
Hit the power button, nothing. Checked power plug, different cable, etc. Nothing seemed to turn it on.
Eventually found after jumping online that volume down + power would soft reset the phone.
That worked, phone goes to samsung logo and sits there. I reboot it a few times and it finally comes up. Stays on for 1-2 minutes then restarts on its own.
Basic search online shows to wipe the cache partition, I do that. Phone boots up ok, lasts about 5 minutes then reboots on its own.
I get all my data backed up (in between reboots) and decide to factory data/wipe via the menu ( volume up, bixby, power if I remember now)
After that...phone starts up as if new and I'm going through the setup. While going through the setup, phone reboots on its own.
I make it again halfway through the setup, and it reboots again. I can't get through setup of the phone at this point.
I repeat a few times of wiping cache, factory data reset.
Now the phone hangs on the Samsung screen and just boot loops. I go ahead and poke around online some more and download Odin plus a painstaking 24 hour download of the stock firmware for the SM-N950U1 (XAA) (Unlocked) Note 8 firmware, then proceed to run through Odin hoping that I can go ahead and just reflash the phone and basically re-install the OS to factory specs.
Low and behold, FAIL on the flash from Odin, it hangs on system.img.ext4 after about 5 minutes of running, says FAILED (auth) in Odin, and on the phone screen it says "Secure Check Fail : system"
Also, now when I boot into Download mode, I hit Volume Up for Continue and it says that an error has accured and to replace or re-install via Smart Switch (which I tried doing but can't get it to work, it says my device is not supported once I connect it)
Lastly, just turnign on the phone normally trying to boot up, it just loads a blue screen that says "Please re-install the factory image" or something to that effect.
I know this is long, but is there anything I can do to get this to take the stock firmware again? I can still connect to Odin and it will try to run through a process, it just fails every time.
Is there some special combination of Odin, USB drivers and firmware that might work? I keep reading that these phones are tricky and I've tried every cable and USB port that I can on my computer, reading that it could be as simple as that.
Anyways, I'm at a loss...any help would be appreciated. I know this was a long read.
on edit: should have included phone info -
Galaxy Note 8 - Model SM-N950U1 ZKAX (XAA based on Downloader info display)
Bought Unlocked from Samsung in October of 2017, have installed all OTA updates as they've come in. No other modding or messing around on this phone. I have rooted many phones in my time but haven't in a couple years.
More info:
Odin 3.13.1
Downloaded file was SM-N950U1_1_20190306182853_ecpwgsj7rn_fac.zip, 3.6 gigs, was supposed to be for XAA Unlocked Note 8 as of July of 2019, I'm assuming latest update?
I am update to date on my OTA updates, I an unlocked phone but on the Verizon network. I'm reading that I have to flash my phone with whatever build my phone was on, ie..not too new or too old, correct? Maybe the build I downloaded was too new? To my knowledge, I have no way of finding out what build I was on at this point...

UPDATE:
Out of nowhere I was able to use Odin 3.13b (patched) (used many times before with no success) and a May 2019 Andoird 9 XAA version of the firmware.
Odin PASSED and now I get the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 screen when it boots up...however it just boot loops this screen with two small vibrations in between reboots.
I have recovery mode again now, and Download mode is back to normal, but it still won't boot into Android.
Also randomly I'm getting pixels across the screen (a thin line) of red or white pixels that blink on and off, then go away once I'm fulling booted into either recovery or download mode. Just odd, never saw that before this all happened.
Where can I go from here? Now that I have somewhat of a restored phone, at least being able to get to all of the recovery/downloader menus like normal, what would you do from this point to actually boot into the OS?
Thanks!

Thanks Sandy! Since my last update, I do remember trying to boot into the phone and I think I either tried to wipe the partition cache again, then factory reset again...then after that all failed I tried to run Odin again and it failed and put the phone back to its previous condition.
Since then I've had no luck at getting Odin to pass on a flash again. I don't know why it worked that one time, but I haven't had any luck getting it to pass again.
I took it to a uBreakiFixit store via Samsungs recommendation and they told me they couldn't do anything with it, and to mail it to Samsung directly. They made a comment that this sounded like a motherboard issue in the phone and they couldn't help at all with that.
Anyways, that is where my story ends for now. I've already ordered a replacement phone, so this is now going into the scrap pile and maybe one day in the next year or two there will be an easy or cheap fix for it, although I doubt it.

Netflixxx??? Sure, call it whatever you want. Once there isn't any screen burn-in to prove otherwise, it is fine.

Does the phone stay on for longer than the 5 minutes on the download/recovery mode screen? If it was up to me, I wouldn't have wiped the phone to factory or flashed another ROM in the first place. If the last thing you did was to fall asleep before a perfectly working phone then all that happened, I'd have recommended rebooting the phone in "safe-mode" by rebooting with the "recent / back" capacitive button pressed. This would disable all third-party apps causing the issue. I recommend that you try the process with the LATEST file for that phone including CSC with the latest patched version of ODIN, on a completely different Windows PC running a 32-bit copy of Windows 7 (not 10).

I know for the Note 5 models, some of them came with bad eMMC chips which required flashing a special ROM to not use those specific memory addresses (at the sacrifice of having reduced internal storage capacity). I recall reading about some S8 and Note8 models being bricked if the battery is allowed to be drained without doing the first firmware update to the (then) latest version of Nougat.

Yeah, all good info. I do know in the middle of it all going down in the beginning, that I had booted into safe mode a couple of times, back when it was working. It still was restarting on its own, in the middle of me using apps, etc.
I am using windows 7, but 64 bit version. I might be able to run a program as if it was 32 bit mode, if that helps or is really the same. I don't have access to a computer that is 32 bit still. Everything I have is 64 bit (windows 7, 8, 8 and 10)
I was using Odin 13.1.3b (Patched) and I tried the most recently released firmware all the way back to January of 2019 when I believe Pie came out. I even tried an 8.0 version which failed instantly, hah. The firmware's that I tried were all off of Sammobile and had the 4 files (BL, AP, CS, CSC files) so I guess I was trying what you suggested...latest version, patched odin, etc. Unless there is more to it...
Thanks for the suggestions and feel free to let me know if it sounds like I did anything the wrong way. Oh yes, the phone does stay on in Download mode as long as I would like it to.
The phone rebooting every 5 or so minutes may be caused by a bad battery. I've had my Note 3 randomly reboot every once in a while out of the blue. Sometimes it won't go beyond the boot up screen at all either. Swapped the battery with a third-party one (Anker) and still works fine today as my secondary phone. The interesting thing is that it absolutely showed no symptoms of a dying battery until it started rebooting at random. But it worked absolutely alright when plugged in though. Did you try to use the phone when its plugged in to a powerful enough charger? It could rule out a defective battery

I had the same thought about the battery, maybe it was dropping voltage fast in a blip of weakness and was triggering a reset/power cycle.
I don't remember if it stayed on 100% of the time when I had it plugged in after it started to have issues. I only had it running for about 12 hours before the factory reset/data wipe ended up tanking it.
As of right now, I have been plugging it in to run Odin on it and it stays on forever without issues, it actually stays on for quite a while without being plugged in too, in fact I haven't seen it reboot from the downloader menu at all on its own, and it has sat there for a good 30 minutes with the screen on in downloader mode a few times without being plugged in...hmm.
Anyways, I can't get it to take a flash/rom whatever at all, it fails every time except for that 1 time, and even then it just boot looped.
I'm assuming hardware failure at this point :\

You can check kernel to know what cause the issue cause if you can stay on download mode without restart the device and it just restart when boot so it is not hardware problem

Interesting. How would I go about doing that?
Just an update...
I sent the phone to Samsung and they said it needs:
Std. Repair Fee : $64.95
LCD Repair Fee : $134.05
PBA Repair Fee : $409.00
Tax : $50.16
Total $658.16
I imagine this is pretty standard for them to just basically rebuild the phone when things are behaving normally, and just pass that cost onto the consumer instead of actually trying to fix anything, hah...
Oh well, phone done and I moved on to a non-samsung replacement. No reason the phone should have just tanked after not even 2 years. It has had its occassional drops (always in a case), never got wet or dunked in water, etc. I've had phones that are still operating today that have been through worse.
Time to move on!

If you still have the phone, try using Samfirm (samsung firmware downloader from xda) to download firmware with that. It's a lot faster than 100 kb/s you're used to.
If your region firmware doesn't work, you can try and flash another region.
P.S. If you download firmware via Samfirm, you can't find older veraion than the latest.
And if you use Samfirm, remember to install it's system requirements listed on it's page.
Also, when you boot it up, you will see:
Device model:
Region:
Auto/manual buttons
Keep it on auto mode
Then under model type: SM-N950U1
And under region type: XAA
Click check for updates, and then download (make sure automatic decrypt is checked, and make sure you know where you saved the file)
After you download it open odin 3.13.1 (it can be plain old 3.13.1, it doesn't have to be patched one)
Load up the files
Enter download mode on your note8
Now flash
If for some reason that doesn't work, then you have no choice but to check the checkbox in odin named "Nand erase all" load up the files and press start. DISCLAIMER: MAKE SURE YOUR PHONE DOESN'T DISCONNECT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PROCESS, VERY IMPORTANT.
Use nand erase all ONLY if the regular method doesn't work
P.S.S. If for some reason the flash fails, and you want to retry, you will need to reboot to download mode again (regardless you are already in download mode)
To do this, just hold bixby+volume up+power, the phone will power off, and power back on in download. When you see the warning screen again, let go of all the buttons, and press volume up to continue.
P.S.S.S. When you are loading up files in odin, make sure you choose CSC, and NOT CSC_HOME
After all that, the phone should factory reset itself and problem should be fixed.
If it still loops, factory reset in recovery.
That's all you need to know about your situation.
If the above doesn't work, then it must be a bad UFS chip.
It's better to try before offering your phone to scrap metal.

This is unacceptable.
I agree with trying Xenos7's detailed steps to resolve the issue. You have nothing to lose at this point (other than the NAND erase failing).

So I feel like I've done all this, except for the nand erase all method, so I'll try that when the phone gets here. Samsung is shipping it back.
I don't remember what I've said I've done to this point in this thread, but I've downloaded every firmware version from sammobile for the sn-950u1 xaa from the most recent and back to January. Also downloaded them all for the Verizon version since I'm on their Network but on an unlocked phone.
None of them work, it had failed every time, except for one worked one time as a success flash in Odin but still didn't boot up the phone.
I'll try the nand erase option once the phone comes back. Would be nice to have it as a working device again for sure...

Make sure you download firmware using samfirm firmware download tool (windows program) located on xda. I also wrote you how to find your region, so use that.
Don't worry about speed, I use samfirm to download firmwares at 4.5 mb/s
It finishes in less than an hour

Phone came in today, I'm working through your instructions now. Currently downloading the firmware through SamFirm as we speak. I'll give an update once I"m done!
UPDATE:
Ok, I so I used SamFirm to download the firmware, etc.
I put in as an SM-N950U1 and XAA. It downloaded its file, did the cr3 check and then decrypted the file. I then extracted the contents to access the 4 files.
Turned on Odin 3.13.1, loaded up the files accordingly and proceeded to flash. Result = FAIL after trying to write system.img.ext4 for a few minutes.
I went ahead and tried it again with checking the Nand Erase option. Same result, FAIL after writing system.img.ext4 for a few minutes.
Any other suggestions? Thanks!
