I am not sure about this, but I have over 4000+ messages stored in the Messaging application. Does this cause the messaging application to become unreliable and drop messages / have problem sending them? I am dropping messages and sometimes my phone says that a message was not sent, but in fact it was, or it just stays on "pending" indefinitely but actually sends the message, and then when you restart the phone it tries to resend the message again and it confuses people.
So is there anyway to get around this? I really like saving and keeping all my messages, they are all backed up by email online though, its just I like them on my phone
I am running Super D 1.10.2 with the DarkStar theme. (Yes I am running an out of date donut ROM, only because I love DarkStar too much and it has not been ported to the newer ROM)
I do know alot of threads and messages can bog down the G1 (Limited Ram and flash space and all).
Do you need to keep 4k messages? Active?
Why not use a sms backup app, and clear out the phone for now.
Having the same problem using COS-DS and CyanogenMod 6.1 on my G1. I only have about 50 messages stored, but still most SMS don't reach me, they get dropped silently :-(
Sending doesn't seem to be a problem though.
I have a rooted i896 running Cognition v2.3b6. Now by default, when I used the sms app, the time listed for text messages that i receive are 5 hours in the past (at 945pm i received an sms, but the time listed under the text was 445). Because when I my text messages that are sent with the proper time, so in the text message thread my text messages are always first and my recipients texts appear always before in the thread.
I what I didnt was I changed my time zone to account for the 5 hour gap.
So after I did this, most of the text message appear in order except for messages that are sent/received in the same minute. For texts send during the same minute, my sent always appear after even if it is sent before.
I read on these forums that this is a problem with time stamping of the text from the carrier or something, but there was not explanation on how to fix this.
Is anyone else having this problem and found out a way to fix it?

You can download an app called "Sms Time Fix" and put it to adjust by 5 hours. You can also download "Handcent" or another 3rd party messaging app and the time will be correct.
I had a very similar problem. After i got my phone unbricked and loaded the latest version of cognition onto the phone the timestanps were five hours off. I am now using handcent and have no probles whatsoever with the timestamps.
Don't forget to go into tibu and "freeze" your original sms program that came stock with the phone.

I've been having a lot of problems with MMS since picking up the Active and switching to AT&T.
I usually use Handcent, but right now it's pretty worthless when it comes to group messages or receiving a picture. in both the stock messaging app and Handcent settings I have it set to group messages, and to automatically download. when I receive an MMS, though, I still have to click on download (and they won't download at all in Handcent even after clicking).
say I receive a group text from someone and 3 other people respond. both apps now display 4 different entries, one for each person. if I open each individual's thread and click download (again just in the stock app) the messages will be removed from that individual's thread and then be added to a group thread.
this is pretty frustrating, and I really want it solved. is this an AT&T issue (I was on VZW riding the Droid train before) or something with the phone?
a little update on this:
sending of MMS is also way less than ideal, either not sending at all, or taking a really really long time. I tried to send a picture earlier and it took 40 minutes before it finally went through. my searching of the interwebs leads me to believe it's perhaps an APN issue? it would be strange if the default settings out of the box prevent it from working, though. anyone else have an issue with this?
MMS is horrible for me on Handcent, too. I have to open the stock Messaging app just to download an MMS and sometimes that doesn't work, either. I also tried AT&T Messages, but it won't ever even setup correctly.

My messages app STRAIGHT SUCKS!
i have no clue why, but everything I do it lags. I click in the text field and the keyboard takes forever to open (both stock Samsung keyboard and swype), i go too fast typing and it lags, possibly force closes, i try to send a message, it takes forever to add it to the list of responses and actually send, it's not even a signal thing, the app itself takes FOREVER and if I try to start typing before it posts or and send, it can freeze up and fc... if i even get a simple picture mms, my phone might force close and I've even had one time where my wife sent multiple mms in a row and it caused a hot reboot!
This is a stock app... i tried using stock keyboard, thinking that was it, no difference. I tried removing the image from the wallpaper on the messages background, that did nothing. ... there shouldn't be problems with either of those 2 things anyways! My gs4 did fine with similar STOCK features and aftermarket keyboards....
This is horrible.
Not rooted. Updated. Both Samsung keyboard and official swype. Both with in app custom picture background, preset color background and stock background.
I love everything else about this phone, but I'm about to return this thing, i shouldn't have to root to fix a stock app.
Anyone else have/had these problems? Any way to resolve them?
Just use Hangouts.

I guess that even though it was fine on my gs4, the note 4 didn't like the 13.5K text messages i restored the phone with my backup program... considering I have to record texts with an Ex, this us somewhat concerning, and a pain not have all texts backed up into one file and makes me wonder that despite allowing me to have "no limit"on my text messages, that it will eventually be too much and slow the program down to useless speeds again...
I just backed up all sms, set backup app as primary messages, deleted all sms texts, cleared data/cache/defaults on stock messages app, reset phone, reset stock app as default and boom, everything is flying again...
So if anyone ever gets a huge lag in their messages app, backup old messages if you want them, then delete all sms messages with a third party app cause if you want to keep your mms, deleting threads/convos with stock app will delete mms too if you haven't saved then some other way...
N suggest using hangouts? Really? The answer is fix what's broken, not leave it behind, that does no-one any good.
Similar situation but with knowledge of it

I've always had this problem whenever i restore my backed-up conversations, but in my case, it's only the first time i open a conversation i've recently restored from a backup, after that, it's just fine. I'm guessing this might be because it has to create some sort of cache the first time the system opens the entire conversation for you to read.
What i usually do... Get new phone, restore previous sms/mms, open each conversation for the first time and when i'm actually going to text, i get no lag or extensive wait for the messages to open-up. I hope that is also your case and you can deal with that LONG first wait.
PS- yes, i also NEED to keep a backup of my exes *sigh* those messages are my legal defenders ^_^
I never had an issue with restore but I delete the stock messeging app. Chomp works way better
BAD ASS NOTE 4
So today I was texting and realized that I now have to select the "split long messages" box on the texting app that I've always been using, textra, to send long text messages. Now the person I am in a conversation with receives more that one messages depending on how long the message is instead of just receiving one long message. Since I started using the note 4 I never had to do this and I appreciated it so much because my last phone made me do that to send messages period. Splitting messages just annoys me and I'm wondering why now I all of a sudden have to do that. Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening or how to fix it? I did revert back to the original messaging app but it was doing the same thing, I also barely used the original messaging app because I downloaded textra as soon as I began using the N4.
