I am using a micro sd hc by kingston 8gb. I have been using this sd card for over a month now with now problems using about .5gb of space. I took my battery out of my tilt while powered on to reset the phone. Now the phone is reset fine and running but it says theres no sd card! I go to settings, memory, storage card and it says not installed. I took out the card put it back in several times no difference. I have an older sd card thats 1gb that i put into my phone and it reads it just fine. I then put the 8gb card back in and says not installed, what the hell? I also tried putting the 8gb storage card in my 8525 and it says not installed. Did my memory card die for some reason some how? Ive never heard of this and never had any problems with an sd card and ive been using them for years. Ive never played with the sd card, once i put it in the phone it stays there and i never take it out. Did maybe resetting the phone by taking the battery out while powered on somehow kill the sd card? Ive done this before with no ill effects. I dont understand, please help anyone. Hate to lose all the info and everything i have stored on my 8gb storage card. Thank you!
did u try to access it on a pc? if you success, move the contents to the pc, and format it, and then move the contents back.

No, my ghetto pc doesnt have a slot for the card. Need to get a usb slot thing for it but i really need this card working now. Doesnt make sense what would case this all of a sudden. Only thing i can think of his taking the battery out.
I think ive really tried everything except the pc method but dont think thats gonna work either. I put the sd card in my 8525 and had the same problem so its not just my tilt, its the card itself. I put an old 1gb card in my tilt and it read it just fine, same with my 8525. Im really stuck here guys and need help, i already contacted kingston tech since they offer a lifetime warrenty even though i got it free but what the hell? Some of the stuff on that card is really not replaceable, really need it. Thanks.

Chances are you need to format the card in a PC as fat32 and try it back on the kaiser. Go to Staples/BestBuy/Walmart and go get a 10$ usb microsdhc card reader. I have one and it works great. I got the Mobilemate Micro Reader and I wont go without it now.
I went to radio shack and for the same price I got one that will read eight types of cards, nifty tool to have around, it can read multiple cards at once

Oh yeah? Well mine is the size of your pinky fingernail when plugged in so HA
Having a micro reader around attached to my keyring ( With my old 4gb card in it ) is nice when im copying random files accross multiple computers. For work i can DL the file using Opera ( Drivers ) and simply pop my micro reader into the PC

Thats great guys but i need the info on the card that is irreplaceable. I could care less about the card, i get em for free. I really just need the files on the card to be recovered but my phone is having this problem and even my 8525 is having the problem with this card too. I ordered a keychain usb thing like what u got from cellphoneshop.net for like $6. Im assuming though if my tilt and 8525 cant read o reconize the card than either will my computer once plugged in. Unless the computer does something my 2 phones dont do to recover the files, i dont know since ive nver had an issue with an sd card before. I really need to recover the files then ill worry about the sd card working again or i could get another no problem but need the files back. What would case this problem, i dont get it? Did taking out my battery wile phone was powered on cause this and make a short erasing the card or something? I have takin the battery out of my phone numerous times while powered on and never had any problems before. How can i recover the files? Thanks!
Your going to have to research some file-recovery tools and try some of those, or send your card to one of those (expensive) places that perform file recovery.
Good luck.
/I feel your pain -- I once lost everything on a 1-gig card. Now, of course, i do regular backups.

Well before i had a 1gb card for over a year with my 8525 and my tilt with zero problems. I just got this 8gb card (really dont need one that high, just got it cus) about a month ago and still worked fine like the first one in my tilt. I actually used the dang sd card as my backup for files on my comp since my ghetto walmart computer likes to crash all the time. Now im screwed! What would i google or search for a file recovery program for my sd card? Worst comes to worst ima send it back to kingston since they have a lifetime warranty and tell them i need my damn files back and see if they will do it. Still waiting a response from their tech unit. Ive also searched this problem here on xda to see similar problems but no solutions. Theres gotta be a way, any ideas guys? Thank you!

How are these programs expensive? I just googled "sd card file recovery" and got tons of pages of freeware apps that recover. Problem here is it wont work with my sd card in my tilt and my tilt connected via usb activesync. It will check your computer or anything via usb but doesnt find or show my phone as a device for some reason. Stupid me didn't think about just stoppin by the store and picking up one of those sd flash usb things and instead ordered one online. Id hate to have to wasted another $10 and get one tomorrow then ill have 2. Any other ideas guys? I found this one to look pretty cool if anyone needs an app for this, http://data-recovery-professional.com/?k=Sd Card Data Recovery It seems to be freeware since i didnt see anything about paying and doesnt say register or anything like that while running the program. Check it out. Any other ideas though? Id really like to get to the bottom of this and find out how the hell this all happened in the first place? Thanks!
This site also seems to have some legit freeware programs for this too! http://www.pcinspector.de/Sites/task_manager/download.htm?language=1#
Yeah guys, i think im royally screwed now. I remembered i have a digital camera so i put in my sd card into the adapter so it would fit into my digital camera, then i could connect the camera via usb as a mass storage device then use the freeware program to get my files back, sounds great right? Well after i put in the card the camera displays "Card Error" and connecting via usb the computer doesnt display the storage device, probably because the card is screwed. Did i fry my sd card somehow in my tilt? I really cant think of how to fix this now. Ill get a sd card reader that plugs into the usb and try that but my digital camera i think is doing the same thing. Ill probably just get the same "card error" after plugging my sd card into the usb adapter. What do you guys think?

card reader + file recovery software is the way to go
also, work slowly, don't panic, and don't attempt to write anything on your card if you got it to work until you pull all your data off of it with the file recovery software.
even if you somehow could format it, the file recovery software could still retrieve some of your files, so, again don't panic, unless the card circuitry is just fried, there is hope

Im gonna try to get a card reader tomorrow even though i already ordered one online but i need these files asap! Problem here is NO Device reconizes my sd card now. My 8525 doesnt show it when i put it in, my digital camera says card error and doesn read how, how will a card reader read it if none of these other devices will? I tried using my digital camera as a card reader but nothing comes up. Tech support from kingston emailed me bck just saying that warranty echange is going to contact me and send me a new card. I just emailed them back saying i could care less about the card but need the files! Hopefully i can send my card in and they can recover the files and mal them back on a fresh card. Until then, ima try to get a card reader today or tomorrow and try i out.

Im assuming you are using the SAME MicroSD to SD card adapter when swapping between your cam and phone. Make sure you are buying a card reader that will work WITHOUT an adapter. It MUST take microSDHC and read it without the use of any other device. Ive had issues with 3 sd to microsd adapters already. All 4 of my Microsdhc cards work great even though i had the issue of not being readable in the phones.

Here is the exact one im using and have been using it for months. Works wonderfully I keep my old 4gb card in it when its on my keyring and swap my 8gb card to move files to my kaiser.
I hope you guys can help me with the following problem.
I have bought a 16gb MicroSD card (it says it's class 4) from eBay. I copied the files from my old 8gb card to my PC and from there copied the files onto the 16gb card (I put it in an SD adapter and into a USB-stick/adapter and plugged it into a USB port on my computer).
The copying seemed to go well. But when I put the card in my HD2 it can't find the files it's supposed to find. When I put the card back in the USB stick most of the files are replaced by one with a strange code, so all the files I had copied seem to be gone.
I checked if the card was actually 16gb and it was.
Any suggestions for what might cause this problem?

Two possibilities.
1: "most of the files are replaced by one with a strange code" = You're in the Matrix, agents are coming, RUN
2: You have a dodgy card or a dodgy card adapter.
Format the card, copy files one at a time via active sync. If that doesn't work it's a dodgy card.
i don't want to open another topic... i'm about to buy a 16gb card... what should i look for?... i want something to sustain long video shots... that's why i go 16gb...
so... anyone has a recomandation as in brand or technical details....?
Hi
In my experience when you copy files to any memory stick or card and they become garbage text and can not be found by your device or pc it means it is a fake card and not the stated size. SEND IT BACK !!!
If its cheap its bound to be fake!!
There is a tool online to test memory cards and usb flash drive to prove if they are fake and can hold the amount of data stated.

Hi, that's what I thought at first, but I used such a tool (I may haven't used it the right way though, should check this out again) and it said it actually is 16 gb. If it keeps giving errors it may be fake, I knew the risk when buying the card (it was cheap, but didn't buy it with Buy It Now, just by bidding). We'll seee what happens, if it keeps giving the errors, I may wait until the 32gb is released.
Ok, I've tested the card and it turns out it's defective. So I'm going to ask for a refund. New and more trustworthy 16 gb card already ordered (still a bit cheaper than the soon-to-arrive 32 gb ).
A friend of mine has a LG Marquee from Boost Mobile and he is having a problem which is a little weird.
The when I install Speech Synthesis from the market place it installs fine but when I go to run the program it wants to install data to the SD card which is normal. But this isn't normal. It doesn't detect the SD card and wants me try again.
This is a new 32 GB card from Sandisk he bought two of them and they both have the same issue. I tried a 2, 4 and 16 GB card thinking there was something wrong with that but they didn't work either. It just wont in see the SD card.
This is not the only program. The stock music app doesn't see the music on the SD card either.
When saving music today to the card from the Android Market place to the SD card it says its full. I know its not there is barely anything on it.
In an effort to fix this I did manage to root the phone. But that didn't seem to help much either...
But I know its working because if I run any other program it finds the card with no problem. I stuck the card in my own phone and it works fine. Sooo...
HELP!!!
Thank you so much..
Hey I have thag same phone but I don't have that issue like your friend is havong with his. Have you tried to format it in the phone? I took my old 8gb sd card out of my old android phone and it works fine. The phone itself may be defective. If u haven't tried to format the card in the phone I would do that first

I did that with other cards and with no avail. So I'm not sure if its a defective phone because the SD card reads normally on other apps with no problem.
I am relatively new to Android and can't figure out how to install apps to my external sd card. My internal 11 GB is almost full so I want to move some larger games to the external card. Please help.

Thanks, I tried that app just now and it doesn't do anything different than what the built in system tools does. It just keys me move apps on the phone to the sd card. My question is how can I move apps from my sd card (internal) to my external card to save space and have the same functionality a if the were installed in the phone. It would be cool if you could just install apps like you can on a 32 GB iPhone.

GMan901 & XDA Members:
If you're willing to shell out the cash for a Micro-SDXC card, I can show you how to swap your internal and external storage (SD cards). In my case, I started out with a 16GB GT-N7000 (International Note) and an 8GB Micro-SD card. I had apps installed on my internal SD card and would put all of my media (music, photos, videos) on my external storage (8GB Micro-SD card); but in the end, it wasn't enough. I ended up running out of space on my internal storage anyway; and considering that there's no way to replace the internal storage, I had to find another solution.
Now, on paper the Galaxy Note officially supports a maximum of 32GB of external storage. However, several sources have confirmed that the Galaxy Note (at least the GT-N7000 anyway) is capable of supporting Micro-SDXC cards of up to 64GB in size, and possibly even larger. However, no matter how large your external storage is, it's still your external storage. Now, if you were able to swap your internal and external storage, you'd have a fixed, 11.5GB external SD card that you would never be able to change, but you would also now have an internal SD card that you could increase or decrease in size whenever you like. In my case, I currently have a 32GB Samsung class 10 Micro-SD card that I bought on Amazon and configured to be my internal storage. Also, If I ever need more internal storage, all I have to do is purchase a larger card, copy all of the files from the old card to it, and insert it into my phone. It really is a great setup. If you're interested in trying this, just let me know and I'll post the necessary file(s) and instructions.
Also, it sounds to me like you are a former iPhone user. If you are, you should know that I am as well. As a matter of fact, it was the new iPhone 4S that I switched to Android from. At first, I found the transition to be..... less than smooth. However, with a little help from the good people here at XDA, I was able to not only make the transition, but also discover just how much more powerful Android is in comparison to iOS. In all fairness though, iOS is, for lack of a better term, the perfect "everyman" mobile OS. But if power, control, and versatility are your bag, Android is the way to go. So if you are in fact a recent iOS-to-Android convert, please let me know. I'd be happy to help show you the ropes.
Let me know if you'd like to swap your phone's internal and external storage; and also let me know if you've recently ditched iOS. In addition to the internal/external storage swap trick, there are a plethora of other tricks, hacks, mods, and techniques that can be used on Android to yield an almost infinite number of effects, changes, and improvements. Android is very tinker-friendly. So just let mw know how new you are to it, and I can show you all kinds of stuff.
Thank you,
Ed (Mister_Mxyzptlk)

Heck yeah, I would like to know! Yes, I was an iPhone user since 2007. A long as I don't need to root my phone out install a custom firmware, I would really like to know how to use my 32 micro sd card versus the ridiculous 11 GB the Note gives you to install apps and games. I barely had enough room to install Real racing 2.

Well, you will need to root your phone, but it's a completely reversible process. And if you do it correctly, you won't even trip the flash counter.
Anyway, we need to start with what build you're currently running. Could you check "Settings > About Phone" and let me know what build you're currently running. With any luck, it'll be a build that lets you use the ZergRush exploit. That way you won't have to downgrade your phone first.

You can by connecting your device to a pc in mass storage mode and using a partitioning software. But it's kind of tricky. I tried several times to no avail so in the end I got myself a card reader. I recommend you to do the same, they are cheap nowadays. It's far more reliable than trying to do it with your phone.

Hello there,
me again, i fear i do not have much luck with my note....
this happened to me with 2 different 32 GB sd cards (same type though) now. First time i thought the card itself was the problem, but now i doubt it.
When i first inserted the card, everything was fine, i copied several gb of music on it without problem, could access al files from phone and via Windows.
Played some files with MortPlayer the other day, and after the next restart of the device (had to shutdown for flight) it suddenly complained that i had removed the card while the system was running.
This does not happen at all with my old 8 GB sd, though, it's running fine whatever i do.
Cannot access the card anymore from phone, camera or PC (Win7 x64).
Runnning german stock rom ICS 4.0.3 rooted on the phone.
Did this ever happen to anyone else and/or is there i way to get that card running again? It does not show up under Windows at all anymore, not even as unformatted or so.
Any help or hints appreciated, thanks in advance.
Try paragon partition manager to format the sd card then see if it works if it does reformat on the phone. I read somewhere that you could format to ntfs and back to fat 32 to get it recognised
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
thanks for the quick answer.
the problem is (don't have paragon where i am atm, but tried with Acronis Disk Director & HP USB Repair Tool and i guess it would be the same with paragon?) that i simply cannot see the device anymore via such tools, same is for the windows disk/storage management.
So reformatting it seems not to be an option here, was more or less hoping that someone knows another "trick" how to get the thing back to life - and of course a reason why my Note might have "destroyed" the 2 cards.
did you buy these SD cards new ? if so was the seller a reputable one ? there are a lot of fake / dodgy Sd cards on the market nowadays
Do you use a card reader via a usb port ? if so try a different port, like one on the back, direct to the PC's motherboard, finally if that fails, try someone else's PC.
If all the above fail I guess the SD is completely dead. I dont know how the Note could have caused this unless the card was a fake, People are using 64GB SD's with no issues at all.
both were brand new cards, bought directly from Amazon.
Could of course be possible that they both were from a bad batch... Gonna ask amazon if there have been any issues with that product so far, could not find bad ratings for it though when i checked.
I'll try to get hands hands on another cardreader, left for vacations yesterday and just have my Netbook with internal USB based card reader, the Galaxy Note and a Nikon D7000 with me, which all do not recognize it, but the backup 8 gb sd card .
thanks for your time
S.
Amazon are friendly, If you havent had the cards long just explain to them the situation and im sure they will refund / replace.
You could be right about a 'bad batch' unfortunately with all the technology we have, it still happens
Hope you get it sorted :good: keep us posted !!!
Samsung NOTE - dead 32gb SD card
first - apologies - I am not an XDA developer (I am a retired architect... and a noob)
This thread came up when I searched "Samsung note destroys SD card". I will simply report my experience in the hope that others may find it useful.
I get a Samsung NOTE G-N7000 in late August & buy a 32Gb SD card from amazon (specifically getting a Samsung one to avoid any incompatibility)
I load about 7gb of music tracks onto it from my PC; it works perfectly& gives me good quality music playback until a week ago; then all playback form the card becomes impossible with an "unrecognised file type" message. I format the card in the phone. I dismount it. I slot itn to my PC, where "my computer" says that it has zero gb capacity, & will not format it. I mount it in my old Blackberry Curve which says it has 29.2 gb capacity - I format it - & the curve says it now has 1.2 gb capacity. The PC still says it has no capacity.
The only possible cause I cant hink of it is that I seem to remember there had just been an Android software uprgrade (to 4..0.3.?)
I find Samsung phone help, ring them, and get very badly run around - several times I am given a phone number for "Samsung SD cards" which is actually the UK "Orange" help number. I have rung three or four numbers at least threet imes each before I get through to Samsung SD cards help. They ask for photos of both sides of the micro SD card - having (I presume) established that it is a genuine Samsung product they e-mail me a product return form & code.
I have sent the card off to Florijn in the Netherlands.... I am not holding my breath.
It has not been a good week for memory...
- Outlook Express started to compact messages as the computer was closing down (so I have no e-mails before 15th Nov 2012)
- this SD card died on me
- & I forgot to go to a folk music dinner &music session that I had booked a week previously
I begin th think alzheimers might be a welcome release....
Your "watch this noob" video... perhaps one of the funniest videos I have seen for a while ... and certainly the most annoying... andyou expect "thanks"?
Well thats something really unusual. Because i am using my note for a year now and bought a 16 gb card with it. I onky encountered 3 errors where my n7000 stopped Reading the memory saying bad memory and what i did was to take it out of the slot and then reinsert it again and It worked fine.
The only advice i give to everyone. Dont plug ur phone to the pc or any other device always keep ur phone wireless with other devices so thst the malware cant replicate to ur storage. I use kies air or bluetooth exchange in cases there is large data i cooy it to the usb and then plug that usb to my phone and it works ok.
