Need some direction, please. - Touch Diamond CDMA

Ok, I want to say first that I do have an Android phone already as my daily phone(Sprint Hero) that I have rooted, custom rom, special themed icons, so im not new to Android. That said, I was given a Sprint Diamond(DIAM500) and I do love this phone, I want to put an Android build on it, as well as a custom WM rom, but I am a total newbie to WM(I had an Axim X50v back in the day), so whats the process? Is it like my Hero, I had to root, use a custom recovery image, then flash a rom? I looked for a tutorial, but they all seem to assume that the reader already knows what they are doing. If any one has a link to a tutorial or can talk me through this it would be most appreciated, Thanks Guys!

G1: Getting started

I will hopefully be ordering a g1 today and I have a few questions regarding the custom software available for the phone.
Is there a difference between the adp and rc builds? aside from one being made for dev'ing?
What is a hardspl, and fastloader and why do i need it, and will i need a custom boot loader for the g1?
And a ROM is basicly a firmware image right? which custom one is the most lightweight and fastest?
And once i get it I just root it and then install one of the custom ROM's?
Ive been with the psp scene since they've been out so i have a little know-how with these things but all of this is new to me
Thanks

Which ROM to Flash?

So here is the deal. I have searched these forums for a while and can't find what I really need. What I need is the most stable ROM available that has all of the features of the phone in proper working condition.
I have enjoyed using experimental ROMs with RAM hacks and the like but I am selling my G1 to somebody else. I need to find a ROM that doesn't have any issues with blue tooth, 3D, or playing video and youtube.
I apologize for creating a whole new thread for this but I have searched the forums and the only versions that I can find have some substantial known issues.
So what Android ROM should I download and flash? Thank you to anybody who can help.
if you're selling the phone, keep it simple. A stock donut rom ought to be just fine. Or hell, unroot it.

Unroot it. That way the new user will be able to get the support and updates they need.
If you dont want to unroot it, then this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538456

If you don't like Sense UI, why not check out CyanogenMod. It's the same look and feel as the stock ROM, but with a bunch of extra tweaks and good stuff goin' on. Link here
Here are a few links that will lead you to some ROMs you can try out before deciding on going back to stock You'll be surprised how good they work. You just have to pick what works best for you... Good Luck and Enjoy!!!!

My favorite setup at the moment is BakedGoods with the UC/UV kernel. Definitely worth trying out.
Moved as not Android Development.

2.2 Question

Hi this is probably a really stupid question but I am new and don't really know what I'm doing lol. I was wondering if there was an easy way to upgrade my sprint hero to 2.2. Google offers the official stock android but I don't know how to install it and I can't figure out the search here. Can someone lead me in the right direction? Maybe link to the right thread? Thanks for the help

One thing is for sure your going to have to root your phone before you can do anything so here's the rooting guide for 2.1:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572
The official source code for 2.2 doesn't just install on our phone everything has to be packaged in a rom and if its not supported by htc we have to do it ourselves so if you look around in the forums you'll find a lot of good 2.1 custom roms and darchstar built a 2.2 froyo build from the ground up. Good luck.
What is darchstar's 2.2 rom called
Just wanted to double check, newbie here but willing to learn. You have to get to your phone into a root statues, at which point your going to flash a new rom onto it with either 2.1 or 2.2?

that is correct
its not too hard once you finally get set-up
i suggest trying out a basic rom without all the bells and whistles first
then once you realize you can load a rom and you mess with it for a bit, try flashing a new kernal, try using overclock, try out a new launcher even *adw or helix.....*, then if you're still feeling good you can try jit
by then you should understand a bit more.

[Q] Please help me out guys!

A friend of mine asked me to root his phone for him. I personally have a rooted and ROM'ed Samsung Epic so this is not exactly new to me. My first question is what is the best way to root and ROM this phone? After searching around my head is spinning a bit about this. For my Epic I was able to do a one click root that also installed CWM. After that I was able to use Clockwork to flash new ROM's and kernels.Second the reason he gave me for wanting to root was to be able to have WiFi tethering. Am I going to need to install a custom ROM for his phone or is there an app that will give him this feature once we have his phone rooted? Thanks in advance for all of the help!
Quickest, basic answer...
For Root... [APP]SuperOneClick v2.3.2
For the tethering question, he will have to check out a Rom that offers it as one of the options (most do). Don't ask what Rom is recommended, he will have to make the choice depending on his preferences to the specifics offered in a Rom. There are plenty of choices here... Captivate Android Development
Your right about the ROM so I removed the question. I guess I was looking for some recommended ROM's that were stable and everything worked. Thanks!
