Wifi bugging out - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

Hello, recently my wifi has been acting up. Sometimes it will say it is connected to my wifi network but no web pages or anything work. It happens after I leave my phone in standby for a while, and it will usually start working after restarting my wifi. After I restart wifi so many times it will disconnect even when it's not in standby (and more often) and then eventually the wifi switch on my home screen stops working.
I'm running Android 2.2 Froyo Cyanogen Mod 6 RC2 FRF84B using the jdlfg 2.6.32.9 overclock 300 mhz+1200 MHz kernal.

ok sounds like there could be two reason for this, either the rom or your router. First make sure you have the latest radio for your phone. If possible try a different rom or a nanadroid restore. on to the router, do you have other wireless devices in your home? Are you experiencing this issue on any other device? You may want to try connecting your phone to a different wifi connection just for testing. connect to any available open connection and test to see if the phone does the same thing on a different wifi connection. Now if it does then you know it's most likely an issue with your phone. if that's the case you would want to focus on the rom and or your radio.
If you do not have the same issue after connecting to a different wifi connection then it's not the phone but your home network. You will need to trouble shoot your router, good luck

I'm fairly sure it isn't my rom, although I did only notice it when I started wifi tethering on 2.2 (I never tried it on Eclair though, I only decided to root when I heard Froyo had been leaked). I'm on Cyanogen (I used to be on the stock froyo) and I still get the same problem, I also updated my baseband and I still get the same problem. As for my router I doubt it, my laptop never seems to disconnect along with my wii and any xbox my friends bring over. My sister's Droid also doesn't seem (emphasis on seem, she's not a power user or anything of the sort and I'm not even sure if she has her phone on wifi half of the time, and neither is she, the last time I checked it was connected though) have any problems (she just has a stock Droid, nothing special).
I've tried a newer version of Froyo (I don't have the latest build though atm, but that's because Cyanogen doesn't support it yet).
Does the Droid connect to wifi in any special way that other devices don't? If so then my router might still be a suspect, as I admit the firmware it's running on is glitchy (it actually worked better before I updated it (I was trying to get some remote router switch on my PC to work with it)).
Edit: I discovered recently that no other wifi networks come up when wifi bugs out, although it seems to only happen sometimes.

Fixed the problem, apparently it's caused by a glitch in the settings, when you change the wifi sleep mode settings so that it doesn't sleep after idling for so long the phone assumes it's been changed but it doesn't actually change. Downloading WifiPowerSavingOff fixed it.

Wifi no longer working with paul's froyo [FIXED]

anyone else having the problem of wifi no longer connecting after updating TO froyo?
edit:
Okay just had coworker enable his nexus as a hotspot and I connected fine.
Must have something to do with the phone's wifi driver and home router.
Wifi still good for me.
Re: Wifi no longer working with paul's froyo
I see a bunch of people reporting alot of bugs in Froyo, i havent seen any bugs yet. My answer to OP is: No.

i can't get wifi to work on any froyo!
it's just obtaining the ip adress but not connecting
i'm having the same problem on my phone. i flashed the stock rom update-nexusone-EPF21B-signed, the the frf 50 rom and everything was working fine for a few hours then suddenly it stopped working. now when i try to turn on my wifi, it just scans then says it's disconnected then starts scanning again.
everything is working fine but i just can't get any wifi! :'(
Okay, glad I'm not the only one. Wonder how we can go back to older wi-fi drivers.

This, I think there's a lot of operator errors going on that are being blamed on FroYo

Hey if you got any ideas on what I did wrong, I'm all ears. All I know is wifi worked fine before switching to Froyo.
(but the new wi fi drivers didn't work on 2.1 either and i had to go back to the old ones)
Re: Wifi no longer working with paul's froyo
Mine disconnects after a while of not using the phone. Wifi on profile widget stays on. But in wifi settings it shows not in range which shouldn't happen anywheree in my apartment.
Need to turn off and turn onwifi again to reconnect.

if more than one person is having a problem, i'm certain it's not a user error like one person said it could be (quite an asinine comment if you ask me). it's never an operator error when you turn off your wifi and half an hour later you try to turn it on only to discover it won't turn on.....how the hell is that an operator error?
i didn't have any problems whatsoever. check the md5 hash, make sure your download was fine.
make sure you wipe everything, then reinstall. if you have old data cache'd, and then tried to flash the update, that may very well be the problem.
Yeah, having troubles connecting to 802.1x EAP Wireless Networks, PSK works fine for me at home.
Yes, I wiped, checked MD5 etc..
I'm using Pauls Rooted Froyo zip
i made sure to wipe data/cache/dalvik cache/battery and rotation. i do this everytime i switch roms. after 12 hrs of working fine, i just don't understand why it suddenly quit. before i flashed to froyo, i made sure to read up as much as possible to ensure i didn't miss a step. the worst part is, no matter which rom i'm using now, i have no wifi.
one thing i noticed is pre-froyo, when i flashed pershoot's kernels with new WiFi drivers i could not connect at home, but when i used kernels with older drivers, I was fine. That said, maybe it will work with other WiFi access points a la the point made about not working with certain WiFi router types. Will test when I have the opportunity.

Okay just had coworker enable his nexus as a hotspot and connected fine.
Must have something to do with the phone's wifi driver and home router.
I had problems connecting to my router (a Belkin N1). I set a static IP on the Nexus One and then it works perfectly.
I have tried to connect to my work router and it got a DHCP lease fine and worked fine (only at 54Mbps G speeds).
Perhaps this new radio image has N enabled and something is screwing up with the DHCP lease. I will try to replace my home router with another N router and report back.
I had the same problem with a message saying connecting but not picking up the IP address.
I suspect it was a conflict with the Static WiFi app I was using. I've unloaded this and after restarting and re-saving the static ip details it connected up OK.
For now I'll have to switch between static and dhcp manually I guess....
I came from Desire R19. My wifi doesn't connect as well now, i.e. seems to need a stronger signal from the AP. Last week I was getting 2 bars of wifi for the AP in my office, and now I get 1 or none. I'm getting a bar or two less at home too. I'm guessing some kind of difference in the Radio.
WiFi issue I have seems to be AP manufacturer specific
At home
Pre 2.2 I could connect without problem to my Linksys WRT 600N, no problems, DHCP etc.
Post 2.2 I cannot connect, gets to acquiring address and then craps out and re-scans
At work
Cisco wireless kit, (no idea of type of AP) pre 2.2 connected OK, post 2.2 connects OK
WPA2 security on both setups

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S Wi-Fi problem

I have a Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant device and a strange Wi-Fi connection problem.
It seems that the WiFi conneciton is being lost intermitently with no apparent reason. I ping the device, most of the time there is a 'Request timed out' and only sometimes a 'Reply from <address>'.
On the device side the connection behaves erratically as well, sometimes there is connection but most of the times there isn't. The strange thing is that under device's Settings->Wireless and network->wi-Fi settings the connection's status is "Connected" all of the time, signal strength is excellent, link speed is 54Mbps.
I had this issue on a native 2.1 Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant install, then decided to flash a custom 2.2 ROM hoping to end the mistery. The new custom ROM is an Axura21VE.zip and the WiFi connection problem is exaclty the same as before.
Does anyone have the same WIFi issue as I have? And yes, I did a search before posting this. In fact, I searched for several weeks and saw many SGS Wi-Fi problems being reported but either they are different or they are similar to mine with no solution. Since I need a stable Internet connection on the device for app development, next logical step would be looking at reverse USB tethering. Yet decided to post here before giving up on Wi-Fi.
For the record, the Wi-Fi acces point is under my control, i have a ASUS P5B-MX/WiFi i946GZ motherboard, windows XP sp3. I tried, I think,
every possible combination of Wi-Fi settings available. The only client device I have at home is SGS. At the office network, SGS is having the same
Wi-Fi issues, while a HTC Desire and many laptops don't.
here is what I just found out: if I do a constant ping form the device to google.com for example, then the conenciton is maintained all right. So, should I constantly ping something to maintain a decent connection? Is there a setting or something in Android OS I am missing?
I had this exact problem - changed my router and it works perfect now. Really weird and not an ideal solution but worked for me so far (touch wood!). Try playing about with your wifi config maybe, change encryption, channel etc. Good luck.
Hi, I'm having the same problem on my Galaxy S i9000 on Darkyy's v7.8. I never used to have this problem until I flashed the second to last release. The device says I'm connected to the network but I can't get any internet access. I tried reflashing my official firmware DXJPA, but I still no joy. I'm not really sure what to do.
YES... i have been searching for days. I feel I may have a similar issue. im connected, speed good, IP there.. no data, browser just hangs. seems to happen less in stock. (Rogers captivate, P10.1) also WiFi manager reads my WiFi channel off by 2!! so im set to use ch 9 on the router and WiFi manager on the captivate says its broadcasting on ch 7?? any ideas? ping to infinity??
side note: this happens on all routers and all roms. other galaxys on my network read proper ch... GF's Iphone see the right channel?? HELP..
I'm also having these problems, reposting my reply from another forum:
Just wanted to chime in that I am also having these problems with my samsung vibrant. Seems to only happen from my work router but happens very consistently. Wifi will work immediately after setting it up but after a short time period will stop working completely. It will say it is still on wifi but will in fact have no access to the local network or the internet. Stopping/restarting the wifi connection doesn't fix it. The router has to be manually 'forgotten' and then re-added for it to begin working again. (Update: sometimes this does not work either, in fact).
This is with a 2wire modem (standard issue by at&t) using WEP security in 802.11b/g mode.
Some people recommended switching from 201.11b/g to pure 201.11g. I tried this with no luck. It was also recommended to try to app 'wifi fixer'. This also did nothing to solve the problem. Given that it is my work router, I don't want to go changing the encryption and other crazy things as I'm not the only person using this router and it would break the connection for others.
MRSizzle in another thread (which xda isn't allowing my to link to) seemed to accurately describe the problem as such:
"It appears to be a driver issue with the Samsung base OS drivers in the phone. Possibly sleep policy is not operating correctly and the wifi radio is being disabled by the hardware and is not being controlled correctly by the software so the WiFI icon still appeers to indicate the phone is connected. Also the wifi signal is not being correctly reported. the signal appears to be attenuated more than it really is."
This description would line up with the OP's reports that repeated pinging will keep the connection alive.
Hi, I'm having the same problem on my Galaxy S i9000 on Darkyy's v7.8. I never used to have this problem until I flashed the second to last release
ASK DARKY its his rom and will know more .

Anyone figure this out? I'm trying to use the Web Desktop app but can't because I can't even establish a connection with my phone!
Hi friends,
I have similar problem, but at first I easilly connected to Internet, but now I can connect to my WI-FI but no internet connection. I am not sure but maybe this has occur after updating to Android 2.2.
Any suggestion?
Thanks in advance.
explanation and apology
I was wrong in my assumption that it's an Android device problem. The problem was in the Asus motherboards embedded Wi-Fi access point. I bought a separate Wi-Fi router and now everything works like a charm.

Tethering issue

Whenever I've used the tether on my N1 it will always connect, but it only stay connect for sometimes 30 minutes and other times 3 minutes. Once the connection drops I have to restart the phone to start a new connection. This happens in random places and it does not matter if I have it tethered through USB or not. Any suggestions on whats going on?
Right now I am on MicroMods Gingerbread.
I suggest wiping everything (NANDROID FIRST OF COURSE), then reflashing!
This fixed my tethering woes.
since the 2.2 rom that enabled OS tethering I have had this problem. I have done many complete wipes. Just installed the gingerbread on my phone last night after a complete wipe.
Perhaps try flashing a new radio? im on 5.12, and have gotten great battery life on top of flawless tethering.
Other than that, unsure what to do. Maybe switch to cyanogen and hold off on Gingerbread?
may it be a problem of Wifi sleep policy? try set it "never"
I'm on Cyan 6.1 and just looked thru my wifi settings and I don't see anything for "sleep policy".
Where do you have that option at?
If you really need tethering--
I have used PDANet and Tether, formally Tetherberry
Tether works great--it does have a one time cost

[Q] Wifi stockrom ICS

Since a few days I'm running the ICS stockrom on an unrooted Note. Before on the GB I was have not the best reception with Wifi, but it was working. Now, with ICS, my Wifi is connecting/disconnecting/connecting/and so on within a matter of seconds. I'm experiencing this on multiple Wifi networks. Therefore I would say it does not concern the settings of my Wifi network, also I'm practically sitting on the router (channel, reception can't be issue).
I've installed ICS via Kies and have done an additional factory reset today.
Does anybody know what could be the cause of this? And, more important, how to solve it?

Others have had similar issues - try reflashing the same modem from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1645202
I found that wi-fi and data both worked better after flashing the modem a second time.
Thank you very much it seems to be working!!
I had to look to find out how to get the phone in download mode, but got it.
Sad to say I did an unneeded factory reset this morning, but yeah it is working now!
I've been also noticing momentary WiFi disconnections ever since I upgraded to ICS.
I'm using MyPhoneExplorer to transfer files wirelessly to the device (not via USB), and ever since ICS it has became an unreliable way to transfer files. If I transfer a big file most chances are that the WiFi connection will drop during the transfer, causing it to fail.
The connection is restored immediately but then I have to restart the transfer process as it halts when the connection fails.
I have excellent signal level (physically located close to the Access Point), I tried flashing the latest modem firmware (XXLR1) - twice, I've set "2.4GHz only" in the WiFi advanced settings, all to no avail: I still get these connection drops.
The same setup (phone, access point, etc) has all been working well in the past with GB. Now with stock ICS it performs poorly.
Has anybody got any information about this problem? Been experiencing similar problems?
Thanks!
I've been getting this issue too but it seems to only be with our virgin router, all other devices connected to it are fine although the signal is a bit crap on them to its at least stable
I tried the modem flash etc but no improvement, I'm pretty sure its the ****e virgin router

At my side it seems to be working better now, steps I've taken (in this order):
1. Flashing new modem
2. Enter fixed IP address for my home Wifi
3. At Settings->Wifi->Advanced->Leave Wifi on when enabled
Especially the last seems to have done me good. I have it working in combination with BatteryFu so it does not consume my complete battery.

Well, the AP that I had problems with is a relatively recent D-Link 802.11n router. Nevertheless, I tried connecting with an old Cisco 802.11g router, and lo and behold - connection is now stable.
So, looks like there is indeed some interoperability problems but I won't dismiss this as a "****e <X-company> router" - as the same router is working well with other clients, and moreover, was working well with this phone when it was running an older GB firmware.
My conclusion is that apparently somebody at Samsung / Google has broken the Wi-Fi drivers, interoperability-wise.

You probably mean leav wifi on when screen is off? My phone is already set this way... Anyhow, thanks, but it looks like this is a problem with a specific router as I wrote in the first part of this message.

[Q] Wifi Problem after CM11

Hi All, I've searched around and can't find threads that are exactly what I'm experience, so I'm hoping this is something the community can help with. I've been experiencing this problem since flashing CM11 a few months ago. My wifi has no problem searching and connecting, but intermittently while on wifi, I'll notice that I'll only send data and not receive it. Waiting 15-30 seconds will usually have it come back, or disabling/enabling will also fix it, but it's never consistent. I notice when the phone is plugged in, the wifi connection stays pretty good.
Just to clarify, I am not losing the wifi signal and the phone stays connected to the network. This happens in all kinds of wifi (whether home or work). Any help would be appreciated!

I dont know if its the same in CM11 but in stock rom you have some wifi options to reduce battery usage, maybe turning them off could help? If not you should make a nandroid baclup of your current setup and flash another rom temporarily to see if the issue persist. Btw are you using a stable build of CM11 or nightly builds? If you are using nightlty builds, you might want to try with a stable version.
Is this always happening when using routers of the same brand? I already had this kind of issue but it was with my One X not my M7. The only way I was able to use the wifi without making the routers hang (every d-link router) was to turn off the N band (5Ghz) and only use the 2.4 Ghz bands (a/b/g). Maybe it worth a try... but I never heard of this issue for the M7.

I tried the Wifi optimization option and it's the same performance. I'm using a stable build of CM11 and wanted to see if there's something I'm missing before flashing again.
I'ts a little bit difficult to tell which routers this happens with, as I can recall only having consistent wifi traffic once in the past 3-4 months. I've switched back and forth between 2.4ghz and 5ghz on my home router to the same issue as well.
Thanks for the suggestions...may just have to resort to a new ROM...
