Ok i know a thread of this kind has probably been made a couple of times, and i apologize for this, but i have been searching every where to find a way to make my nexus one back to stock. I know once the bootloader is locked i cant reverse that but i just want to have the original stock recovery image. I currently have amonRA 1.7.0 recovery image. I have tried everything possible that i know, and as I must mention im not a really a good adb user. I mostly know how to use custom recovery images, load roms, themes, mods, etc. I have read a couple of threads where it would help me revert back original state but i just cant figure it out. I would very much appreciate it if someone would help me out and give me a step by step procedure i can use to flash a recovery image.
I currently have my nexus on ERD79 stock rom, no mods no nothing.
Firmware is 2.1(not 2.1update1)
thanks for the help!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614850
this puts everything back to original even recovery img.. this is full instructions
and once its "unlocked" it cant be Relocked.. it stays unlocked
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614057
the PASSIMG
Step 2. unzip the original shipping ROM and put it somewhere you can find.
Step 3. Plug in Nexus One with USB to computer (enable usb and debug modes)
Step 12. Skip to step 13 if you want to keep recovery (assuming you have a modified recovery such as Amon_RA's recovery). If not
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Step 13. fastboot reboot
Thanks for this but i came across this thread and to be honest i got lost after it asked to put the unziped file where i can find it.
Can you give me an idea where i could put it?
Oh and i downloaded the passimg.zip and i couldnt extract it, my comp said file is invalid.
thanks again.
Ok ill see if i can unzip it for you sir
or you can try it this way too
http://www.mediafire.com/file/e5t4504thl2ry42/recovery.rar
there you go man recovery image from the thread posted before
1. Plug the phone into the computer
2. Reboot into fastboot by holding TrackBall + Power (you should see three Androids on skateboards and the words 'fastboot USB' in red)
3. On the computer, open a command prompt cd to the sdk/tools directory (we will assume the SDK is located in C:\android-sdk and the recovery file is in the root of the sdk/tools directory for the following steps)
4. With the phone connect via USB, open up a cmd prompt
Code:
adb reboot recovery"
5.
Code:
adb devices
A device name and 'recovery' should be returned
6.
Code:
adb push recovery.img /sdcard/recovery.img
recovery.img is located on android-sdk/tools dir
7.
Code:
adb shell flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
This permanently flashes the recovery.img to your phone, you can now boot into it by holding Vol- while powering on the device
8. Reboot

i apologise if this seems like a noob question, but i searched everywhere, and couldn't find the answer.
I followed the steps to flash the stock recovery to my nexus, and when i boot into the recovery mode to test it, it's just a blank screen with an error triangle and a little android standing next to it.
Is this what the stock recovery is meant to be? or did something go wrong in the process?
Yeah that should be the stock recovery, you should be able to press the power button and volume up and get a blue text list saying reboot system now, apply sdcard:update.zip.... etc.
yes, thank you very much for clearing that up for me
see my guide: [UNROOT] Unroot al android devices which was also posted on the front page. this step allows you to get a stock recover image specifically for YOUR GOOGLE NEXUS PHONE, not just generic google nexus phones
hate to revive a thread thread but im having the same delima.
i just bought a nexus one from CL and it was loaded up with a 2.3 rom. Im guessing its not using stock kernals, baseband, etc etc.
Im trying to get it back to stock EVERYTHING. i know i cant relock the bootloader but other than that, i want to revert it back to what you get right when you open the box. im not even sure what a recovery image is... but if its different when u flash different roms, i would like that stock too lol.
i know about the passingimg method but i wasn't sure if thats compatible with all roms (kind of like how unlocking iphones only works with certain basebands). i also wasn't sure if that'll return everything to stock, kernal, OS, modem, radio, recovery (?), etc.
im not very familiar with adb either. can anyone PLEASE help me out?
this is the method im talking about http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...des_&_Tutorials#Unroot_.2F_Restore_your_Nexus
would the passingimg get EVERYTHING back to stock? or would it leave the custom recovery, kernal, or something else etc.

You obiously don't know what the Q&A section is either.
But anyways, it was a zip? If it was then that wasn't the recovery image, the recovery image is a .img file. Did you try extracting the zip?
no...but now i just wana get a recovery..any so i can flash a rom

even if you borked your recovery you should still be able to get into SPL. reboot your phone with camera+power, after it finishes checking, press "back" button to go into hboot, then connect your phone, and fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (make sure you already extracted it). You should be good to go
when i connect my mobile to the pc its not recognize, setup wizard come's up and i can't install the software drives(did i tell u i'm a noop and all i know is how to flash roms using my g1 mainly)
how do i make it reconzie my g1? and were do i typ flash recovery recovery.img
Have you installed the android sdk on your pc? If not, search the developement forum for it or do a google search for android sdk.

This is excatly the reason you should read, research and always follow the directions.
There are plenty of tutorials on how to use fastboot here on xda so research.read and follow the directions and you will be fine
Here is what you need to do.
1) Follow these instructions word for word, step by step
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=502010
2) Now you should have adb installed. With adb you can plug your phone into your pc through USB and use command lines to manipulate your phone. To use commands in windows go to start, run and type cmd, enter
3) Now if it worked correctly you should have your phone plugged in and type adb remount. If it successfully mounted then adb is working.
4) now unzip Ra's recovery image and rename it to recovery.img (for simplicity) and place it on your desktop
5) now with your phone plugged into the pc power down the phone and reboot, before it starts up hold the camera button. You should see some droids on skateboards.
6) Now press the back button
7) now go to the cmd as I mentioned earlier and type: cd desktop
8) now type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img when it is done type adb shell reboot and your phone will reboot.
9)before it boots up hold the home button and if you did everything correctly you should be in Ra's recovery.
from the recovery you can always hold call, menu, end to reboot instead of pulling the battery.
Good luck. I suggest you flash a rom to get back up and going, and then spend a few weeks reading about everything android that you can find on xda before you mess with it anymore. In the future you probably won't find anyone else willing to give you instructions like this, so I would search and read ALOT before posting a bunch of how to messages....
thanx

Okay so i unlocked my bootloader, that went well (as if thats hard)
and then i used Modacos superboot to root, it rooted (except for some reason the super user application opens to just a black screen). After that i continued to flash the recovery so that i can flash Cyanogen. When i try to flash the recovery i keep on getting the error 'cannot load'. i've tried like 4 different recovery roms. Not sure what im doing wrong
Oh and this has been tried on 2 different computers. One win7 and one XP. both gave the same output

what commands are you using to flash Amon_RA's recovery image? i also assume you're at the white bootloader screen when trying to flash Amon_RA's recovery image. also, to confirm root access, download the N1 Torch app and if it works, you're rooted.
Yes the screen is white. And i am using "fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-nexus-v1.7.0-cyan.img"
Cannot load what - fastboot or the ROM .img file? Do you have fastboot-windows.exe in the same directory as the rom image?-(not necessary if fastboot command works for you)
Type fastboot devices to double check your link between pc and phone. If not check usb cable & drivers.
Make sure ur unlock is right before flashing Amon. If you've rooted then you should see an unlocked-lock image (the the google Xscreen) while booting, or the N1 torch app method as mentioned above.

Make sure you got to that white screen by pressing the trackball and not the volume rocker.
I renamed the recovery image to "recovery-RA-nexus-v1.7.0.img"
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-nexus-v1.7.0.img
Make sure you check
Code:
fastboot devices
and get your device number and also make sure you put it in the tools folder of the Android SDK
Make these steps
Boot ur phone into bootloader
1 Rename the img to recovery.img
2 Place the file in ur toolfolder where u have ur fastboot
3 Rightclik on toolfolder+Shift choose open cmd here
4 write fastboot devices to be shure u are connected
5 then write fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
hi,I have the problem too.I try many times but still stuck TRIANGLE WITH !.when I do recovery image

Code:

Finally got Amon_Ra's recovery to install
I started with a stock N1 with froyo
had a few stumbles along the way and lots of searching...lots and lots lol
using the how-to on the cyanogen page I went to the letter as ive never used ADB
So I installed the Latest Android SDK to get the ADB and Fastboot.
verified connection with "adb devices" command and so on
when I tried to flash amons the first time I got an error saying it couldn't open the file.
I checked to see if i had Super user with the LED flashlight app and I did not so I downloaded Super boot and it worked like a charm
tried again and got the same cannot open error.
I renamed the recovery image back to the original file name and triple checked everything else which didnt help.
at this point it was late and i was exhausted so my memory is fuzzy
but i had a few more issues and finally I installed the clock work app and installed clockwork recovery i then used that to flash amons because that is what i was familiar with from my G1 days.
I do remember I had to go into fast boot and select clear storage. I think thats what caused my N1 to hang on reboot after the ROM was flashed.
But It may have even been what caused my issues with the recovery image.
I need some help like if someone could help me root my phone by conectiong to my computer to help me out that would be great. What are you seeing when attempting to flash recovery?
So when you reboot your phone you see an unlocked lock under the colourful "X"? If you do, you have indeed unlocked your bootloader and have a proper fastboot setup.
Now you need to boot back into the bootloader [Trackball + Power]. Place the AmonRa recovery image into the "tools" folder of your sdk and rename it simply to "recovery.img". Then run the command
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Click to collapse
On the top right of your phone screen you will see a progress bar. Once it is complete, boot into the new recovery by fully powering down, thenholding [Volume Down + Power ], selecting "Recovery" from the list and tapping the power button to confirm selection.
Double post.
We are all jumping to conclusions here...let's start from the beginning.
OP - have you turned your phone on?
(I crack myself up)
Hahaha what the hell?
ok so i renamed the AmonRa recovery image to recovery.img and put it in the tools folder on my desktop and booted the phone in bootloader then tryed to run the command on the computer and I cant get it to work what am i suppost to type
I would try putting the recovery.img SDK\ dir, then using fastboot
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
easiest way

The tools folder is where fastboot lives so unless he puts the sdk\tools path in his global path, he will have to type tools\fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
OP - if you type fastboot devices, do you get an item list that displays your device?

go back to recovery, wipe everything (except your sd card). Flash your rom and if needed, the g-apps package (cyanogen rom additional step). Tell it to reboot and wait for it to boot up.
Sounds like you didn't wipe and got it stuck in a bootloop.
All is well thanks a lot guys
It's not hard to root the Nexus at all. I had adb and fastboot all set up for my Dream. It only took me maybe 2 minutes from when I unboxed my Nexus to having unlocked the bootloader. But he got it working now so it's good.
Hello, I posted a thread a few days ago on how my power button died. Well, now the ROM has died too! When I start up my N1, the screen is stuck at the boot screen, although things have already loaded (trackball already lights up). This means I can't see what i'm pressing on the phone. So I decided to try and flash a new ROM.
But, wait a minute... my power button doesn't work. How am I supposed to select 'Bootloader' from FASTBOOT and then select 'Recovery'? I couldn't think of a way other than flashing from FASTBOOT. However, FASTBOOT can only flash images, not ROMS. So I need a Nandroid backup image to get my phone working again. Sadly, I don't have one of those - I haven't made a backup image in awhile.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Please help me! I want to be able to use my N1 again. Thanks!
1) Install the Android SDK.
2) Turn on your phone and plug it in to your computer.
3) Open a command prompt in the /tools directory of the SDK folder.
4) Unlock your bootloader by typing fastboot oem unlock
5) Go to http://developer.htc.com/ and download a full Nexus One system image.
6) Extract all the files in the zip file to your /tools directory.
7) Flash whichever ones you want by typing fastboot flash <name-of-partition> <name-of-image>.img
Hello today I attempted something that I thought was going to be a quick video tutorial fix. I tried Rooting my HTC one. I followed several guides and read many posts I easily managed to unlock my phone. The problem started when trying to flash the recovery onto my phone, first I tried through commands: fastboot flash recovery and I received the error (FAILED data transfer failure unknown error) I've searched for 7 hours looking for a fix. Since I cant root reverting back to a fresh install is impossible, I cant find a RUU for telus, (I live in canada). I just don't know what to do, when I try to flash anything my bootloader freeze, drivers are up to date, tried restarting computer. Used One_M7_All-In-One_Kit_v1.0 doesn't work. This is a nightmare come save me before I jump off a cliff.
EDIT: What I did from beginning was followed this video "How to Root the HTC One-FlamingArio"to the point where you try and flash the recovery fastboot. That didnt work so after trying to fix that I tried How To Root HTC One & Unlock Bootloader - Easiest & User Friendly- The smoking Android ( super boot a 1 click install) that made my bootloader screen turn to tampered. after that I tried One_M7_All-In-One_Kit_v1.
Note in all in one kit I did erase cache and standard recovery works fine, I've re-installed it may times.
Cant post links yet but I gave video names.
EDIT: when I do the cmd fastboot devices my device shows up when I do adb devices nothing shows up could this be part of the problem?
Thank you all for your help, I re-installed all the programs on my laptop and redid all the steps and it worked. Bye!
Try this in ABD fastboot erase cache then flash the recovery again i hope this helps:fingers-crossed:
What did you do from the beginning? Could you post a step by step traceback of what got you to this point? Let's see if you missed any steps

Keep an eye on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2302870
Many people are looking for the Telus RUU.
Can you still access standard recovery? If so try reverting to factory settings (all data will be lost) and try to boot.
If you can get it to boot you should have more luck in trying to root your device.
I know that I had some issue's trying to get root on my device. But once I got S-off with revone, I was able to install root no problem.

Nice to see you sorted it
Assuming you have actually flashed a recovery image to your device, you will then need to push a ROM to your sd card so that you can flash it in recovery.
Just do the following:
1. I am guessing you have the HTC drivers installed on your PC.
2. Download the attached adb.zip and unzip it to a folder on your C drive and call the folder whatever you like.
3. Boot your device into recovery and plug it in to a powered USB port on your PC.
4. Navigate to the folder that you just created on your PC and copy your ROM zip into it. rename the ROM zip to 'rom.zip' to make life easy.
5. Inside the folder, press and hold the shift key and right click in a blank part of the window and select 'Open command window here' (screenshot attached).
6. Type 'adb push rom.zip /sdcard' (don't use the quote marks)
7. Press 'enter'
8. Once the zip has finished being pushed to your sdcard, you can reboot into recovery and then flash it as normal.
EDIT: That will teach me not to read to the very end of a post. I'll leave this here for someone else.
