[Q] dummy phone housing? - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I found a dummy phone is much cheaper than buying a new housing. So i was wondering would it be possible to take the housing off a dummy phone and put it on my phone?

In short - NO. Dummy phones are only designed to look the part on the outside. Inside, however, they are nothing like the real thing and are not filled with anything, some are solid to add weight only. I never seen a dummy phone that was suitable for housing replacement, no matter how much it replicated the real thing.

Housings are not so expensive at all; about 20 dollars,
Look at Ebay? http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=so..._nkwusc=sony+ericsson+xperia+x1+houing&_rdc=1

they are made of plastic. definitely not. Just go buy a replacement

Has anybody tried this FASCIA housing wichm most of them are from HK or china?
I don't know how they are, and I'm afraid. From what I know OEM are better than fascia. Me also I would pay 25 usd on a housing or 30 on a full housing (with slider part also). What do you recomend?

Fascia means FACEPLATE, it's not a brand or means anything else, so not OEM vs Fascia comparison, rather an original product or a copy. The thing is, the original had multiple problems by cracking and falling apart all by itself, no misuse or abuse was needed, so it doesn't actually even matter which one you take. In all other cases OEM would be better.

so OEM it is not original but is better than a copy. Yeah I know about the cracks of the original ones but reading here i understood that this "fascia" are worse and I could spend the money for nothing in the end because it wouldn't fit.

If you end up buying a new housing on eBay, expect lower quality.
I ordered a body, it came with everything except for the back of the LCD (the part that has the slider that connects both halves together). The battery cover was aluminum (but lighter, less reflective paint). The plastic was quite light, and on the keyboard, where the seam is for the silver sides and the center section, the join is visible, not as nice as the original. However, the fascia was aluminum (or some other metal) - probably the best quality thing of it all, although the camera and light sensor holes seemed frosted.
I never got to using this body, but I'll keep it as a spare in case something disastrous happens.
tl;dr: Expect lower quality from eBay, will do the trick, may have missing parts.

XDA Additional battery

Does anyone else have problems with screwing the additional battery to the back of the XDA? I find that finger tight is not tight enough and the grooves in the screws are not deep enough for a screwdriver. If a screwdriver is used it scratches them! Can those screw thibgs be replace with something half decent? Thanks
loose screws
Had the same problem, make sure the xda is face in your hand and press firmly down where the are screws are focusing pressure between the screws take are very small screwdriver the kind you get in a computer toolkit and very gently take up the slack DO NOT PRESS DOWN & TIGHTEN LIKE A MANIAC, if its still loose focus the pressure closer to the 1 screw, take up the slack as above, then repeat on other.
REMEMBER! BE CAREFULL NOT TO GO HEAVY... the threads on these units are delicate.
Where can I find a cheap extended battery on the net?
You have 2 cheating choices.. you could take your chances on ebay or really cheat and contact expansys they have a 9v battery adaptor for the xda thats about £14 excluding VAT and price is at the time of this reply (great for emergencies and when your case doesn't have room for the extended battery)
Failing that, brand new from www.expansys.com is £46 I've noticed the pricing of them keeps falling plus I'm sure the net companies are cheaper.
The expansys one seems to be a different colour to the o2 uk xda, being a slightly more "grey colouration" than the silver of the machine itself.
Perhaps its just the one I've got.
I've noticed that the xda battery on O2's website now seems to be set at a similar price as the expansys one - perhaps that one's a "better match"
not that I'm picky!
The only other issue is its difficult to find a case that will accomodate the battery, the standard "captin kirk" xda leather case wont close properly with it fitted, neither will the innopocket alluminium one.
Case accomodating ext. battery
If you want a case that comfortably accomodates the ext. battery go for the case dixons sells for £10 - Its the only case they sell for the xda, the downside being there is no beltclip whatsoever, great for my handbag, don't no bout the guything- its looks very much like an executive case with room for creditcards ext.battery and an extra stylus slot.

That one shows a grey/silver front in the picture.
Other than some unofficial knockoff from some place in China, via Ebay (which looked really badly produced), I haven't seen any other all black housings around. There is always the option to use the all black aluminium case of course, which makes it even thicker.

search on ebay. they have available parts for shipping that are way cheaper than the ones on the site posted earlier.
I've been searching for a while, i've tried ebay but i've never found anything apart from the original grey front
I've found vinyl stickers, maybe i can find a black one

Most people are searching for replacement parts. There are very few " customized " parts for these phones, as they are $500 disposable items. There is no market for customizing something that is going to be yesterday's technology in less than a year.

i beg to differ..when it comes to technology of these mobiles, oppose to cosmetics and maybe software,..it's more like every 3 years. Now, as technology progresses so will the speed of advancement. The kaiser is 2006 Technology, and just now are we seeing truely new chipsets (not just a smaller chip and bump to 528 mhz) like most modern android phones today oppose to our device. So we are currently on the wave of new mobile technology..so in a way ur right and wrong, it looks like the next year or so will be wat you said especially if you just bought a phone..and for some one like me who has had a kaiser for couple years it will be nothing but a routine upgrade

Replacement housing on Ebay

Was looking to buy a new outer housing for the phone as I dropped it and there are grooves/pits in the soft rubber part of the housing. This one on ebay says it oem, but the camera does not extent as far as out on the original case, and there are no metal edges around the camera bezel (these may actually be better for the device). Was wondering if anyone can confirm if this is indeed oem, maybe htc changed the housing in later models?
Link here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ORIGINAL-HTC-HD...wItemQQptZPDA_Accessories?hash=item45f16d3a99
thank you...
It looks like the real thing. not sure about the camera bit though. Also, the mini picture in the first image is definitely not the hd2. Might be worth asking the seller.
hello n4v1n,
same housing as original, when you will take off your outer housing, you will see that camera's extention with metal edge doesn't come with it (it's part of the camera's module, not housing)
agree with kengel77.. the camera module is by itself, therefore it will be on your board..
I can confirm that the camera part is part of the housing as I have taken it apart already. The board has just the lens attached to it, nothing else.
Would this work for the T9193 as well as the T8585?
I scuffed the corner of my housing (dropped it onto pavement in the leather sleeve, just happened to land on the exposed corner...) and removing the Telstra branding seems like a plus.
$20 is a pittance.
Also, how difficult/risky is the actual process of replacing the housing?
Ok I can confirm this is NOT an OEM housing as truesupplier.com has it for $98.00!!! too expensive imo. Also @spike15, removing the old housing is easy although you will most likely damage the original housing in the process as u have to pry it open with some sort of plastic edge and it's really tight. I have little grooves in the plastic above where the earpiece is now.

I don't care about the original housing -- it'll be going straight in the garbage.
Can anyone confirm the quality of these housings? Can anyone confirm that the T8585 housing is identical (at least in shape and size) to the T9193 housing?

Since its not oem and from china, MOST likely will be garbage, considering an oem version costs 5X more. just my 2cents./ Also the antenna leads for the wifi, gps etc. are not included, so you will have to take them off the original, they look like stickers and if they tear, you're screwed. I didnt mess with them but they look very fragile.

The T9193 is not the T-Mobile version, it's the Telstra version...
afaik ALL US versions are the t9193's.
the internationals (europe/asia/etc) are the t8585's.

No, because the T9193 is the Telstra version, and Telstra is an Australian telco.
Do I need to take a picture of my Telstra HD2 box which says "T9193" on it?

yes you have t9193, the housing will NOT fit, end of story.
Are you sure this won't fit?
Someone on page suggested the only reason difference in size might be standard of measure difference. Sounds very ridiculous.
Why are you saying it won't fit?

Sorry, but do you have URL on where I may order these shells? I only really need the back part where the camera is. My used X1 came with a hazy camera plastic cover and I was trying to clean it with a bit of force when it cracked

I bought this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280509675579&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
It looks perfect. The keyboard had some Chinese characters printed next to the English, so I asked them to send me an English only one but it hasn't arrived yet.
Apart from that I'm also waiting for a new flex cable assembly from another store before I will reassemble the phone. I'll post picture then.
I wished there was a full housing on eBay that sold every single outside part.
That one doesn't include any side buttons.
The main front black button.
The two rear rubber screw covers.
i want to buy, but idk how to change it myself. are there any references or nice guides out there?

I was looking into a new silver housing recently on eBay due to my battery cover losing color... yes the black X1... while it looks nice, the battery cover is just bad at keeping its beauty even if you take good care of it. Is it complicated to change the housing?
Update...
So I finally recieved my housing yesterday, and the first thing I noticed was the two rear 'rubber-feet' were not included. WHEN IT SHOWED IN THE PICTURE THEY WOULD COME WITH! The back black piece behind the screen, that slides up, was scratched and looked used.
DON'T BUY FROM THIS EBAY SELLER: tangyunshop899.
It came with a stylus which I wasn't aware of. Wow. It doesn't even hold itself in the phone. It keeps falling out.
The quality I think is almost the same. It looks like the metal is a little itty bitty silverish-color, more then OEM. The font on the keyboard was thinner on the Chinese-made. When the backlight turns on, you can see more then just the 'lettering', you can literally almost see the whole key light up. Kinda ugly and cheap.
Each key on keyboard doesn't quite fit, but it's trying.
When they ship the housing to do, it's already put together, it was a pain, taking it apart, because it was so stiff, I thought I almost broke the rear parts, that border the battery.
Everything fit snuggly. The phone felt study again. I had to reuse all the old electronic stuff, bolts, screws, and anything gold, such as the things that hold the screws in internally. Reuse the white plastic 'flash-lens' from the camera. Re-use side buttons. Don't forget the microphone!
I also bought a new screen that was faulty. Screen lit-up, but no touch-response.
DON'T BUY FROM THIS EBAY SELLER: moonmoonlam.
I guess you could say it was worth the money. I spent $59.00? Looks a hecka lot better than my old one. (Cracking, huge dents, scratches.)
Now I'm just waiting on a new digitizer, and 3600mAH extended battery for this thing.
CNN Housing
This is not eBay but maybe you could check out this online seller: http://cnn.cn/shop/sonyericsson-xperia-c-28_638.html
Can I have my housing changed at a service center? I'm scared of changing it myself. I'm willing to pay more for it, just to avoid the headache.

Question My phone arrived with sticking silicone edges

Hey all,
I finally got one, at a pretty good deal from Alibaba (8GB/256GB for $800 + $45 DHL shipping). I unboxed it and noticed two sticking edges, like very thin black silicone edges. Anything to worry about? it's unexpected obviously and I assume it wasn't finalized properly at the factory. No visible side effects although I suspect its effect on the phone IP rating.

You can probably return it but might take a month to get replacement
If it's barely visible I wouldn't bother
I pulled one of the edges out and it just went and snipped the other one with a delicate cutter tool, as I figured it's better than pulling it. Couldn't leave it hanging like that. I doubt it did anything, but I dunno, it's kinda weird receiving an $800 phone like that.
Well firstly I would like to as you if it is a global or a Chinese version, 800$ seems quite cheap and you might have received a refurbished phone rather than a new phone at that price point, I don't know the market value for this phone now but still should be higher than that even though Xiaomi 12 has been announced but not yet released
You can get it for $800 from Alibaba and the specific seller I got it from has quite a lot of happy reviews and no mentioning of a refurbished one, so I think it's safe to say it isn't. It's the Chinese variant of the phone, as it didn't make sense to get the global one.
I never heard of silicone sealant being used on smartphones. Acetic acid is corrosive unless they used the 2 part potting silicone mix designed for electronics. So there's that...
Always cut (razor blade), never pull.
Could be a refurb with sloppy replacement panel
Go to the site and check the IMEI numbers to see if it's been used in china before, it will tell you the exact date
Which site? I was only able to find this and it won't say dates: https://www.mi.com/global/verify/#/en/tab/imei.
