Hi Folks
I have a Vodafone V1615 aka TYTN II which has Voda WM 6.1 - CE OS 5.2.19212 (build 19212.1.0.3). I think it's a great smartphone but the UI is a bit blah... So I believe I could use an app and a downloaded cab file and flash the rom to get to a generic 6.5, and then get a very groovy 2d or 3d TouchFlo app so I can pretend like I'm not going through a mid life crisis (but failing....) which sounds like an idea,
Now then, I'm kinda techie but terrified of frying the box so while I understand the concepts I don't get the "how to" elements. Therefore an idiot's step-by-step guide on would be hugely appreciated
so questions -
(a) What benefit is there of a generic 6.5 over voda 6.1?
(b) Which app to do the flash, and how? (the order to avoid a brick etc.)
(c) Which Cab/s for the rom? (and ditto)
(d) Which Cab/s for the TouchFlo?
(e) Will my Tom Tom apps still work?

Phil
ok... just ignore me until I read the "development" Forum
then I might come back and ask some more questions

Hiya Phil
I was in a similar position to yourself around 2 weeks ago and am thus no expert in the field of rom flashing there are however a host of resources out there to help nub cakes such as ourselves. Ill try and answer your questions as best I can with links to resources which I found particularly helpful.
a. From what I understand there are no generic (not user created) roms for the HTC TYTN II. Should you want to use 6.5 you would thus need to make use of a rom designed by one of the many chefs in the community. Concerning differences w w w . 1 8 0 0 p o c k e t p c . c o m / 2 0 0 9 / 0 2 / 1 3 / d I f f e r e n c e – b e t w e e n – w I n d o w s – m o b I l e – 6 5 – a n d – 6 1 . h t m l provides a brief outline. The main difference in my own opinion is that 6.5 is more finger friendly with 6.1 being more stylus dependant.
b. When it comes to flashing mskip has written an excellent guide covering the entire process forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433835 including the installation of Hard spl, Unlocking, Flashing Rom, Flashing Radio. Initially it seems a bit much however once you’ve read through it a few times it becomes clearer.
c. Answered in b.
d. Some of the user created roms will already have TouchFlo aka Manila cooked into them. Should the rom you choose not have it cooked in you can install forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=425851 which contains a link to a cab file.
e. The process of flashing will remove all data from your device and you would thus need to reinstall any app such as TomTom. Speaking from personal experience the reinstallation of TomTom was not an issue at all setting up the GPS again was slightly more of a challenge, however with some tweaking and time I’ve managed to get it working on the various roms I’ve tried.
As I stated at the start I’m by no means a pro at the whole process so be sure to read through the links and the links within the links they offer considerable more insight than I can offer. I would post direct links however due to the nature of my account I’m not permitted
Best of luck in flashing your rom
Go to the ROM thread, read the wiki and FAQ, you'll have better ideas ..

Just thought that I will share my experience with flashing HTC MTeOR shiped with ROM 1.13.xxx.x to DOPOD 595 ROM (WWE) located at:
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Upload.../WWE/ruu_bree100_1.15.707.3_dopodwwe_ship.exe
Upgrade is straight forward as with HTC Hermes:
Go ahead and launch the ROM updater on your desktop computer. At some stage installer will come up with invalid vendor id error. Do not disconnect your device and re-launcn the ROM updater. This time the ROM update process will happily start...
I am still going through ROM update as I type this message. I will let forum know as soon as I am all done here.
UPDATE:
No problems during or after update.

How about a comparison? What's different? Any decent software etc...
1. Accessories --> Network wizard
auto configuration of connections for specific GSM carrier.
2. Streaming media player (HTC)
i guess this one is for, ummm.. streaming of your media
3. bunch of documetn viewers
ClearVue Document, PDF, PPT, WorkSheet
4. system font looks a bit rough though. I had much better loking ssytem font before this update.
5. languages availble: English USA and Chineese only.
6. more findings
in /windows dir i have found:
SetHSDPA.exe
SetHSDPA_Disable.lnk ( 99#"SetHSDPA.exe" /Disable )
SetHSDPA_Enable.lnk ( 99#"SetHSDPA.exe" /Enable )
i have seen information that HTC Breeze does not support HSDPA. Now, after seeing these files in DOPD 595 ROM I am not so sure about it anymore I can not check HSDPA status of my device since i do not have HSDPA available where I live yet.
UPDATE:
just noticed that SetHSDPA_Enable.lnk is also located in \winodws\startup by default.
this makes clear to me that HTC Breeze HSDPA supports HSDPA.
Hi,
Interesting findings! Can you post the HSDPA files separately?
Thanks!

Also, I was wondering if DataDisconnect.exe located in \windows folder can be used for disconnetion of GPRS /EDGE/other data connections?
I know that some users are complained that pressind "end" button (red) will not disconnect their data connections anymore.
at least according to DataDisconnect.mui:
D a t a D i s c o n n e c t J S e l e c t t h e d a t a c o n n e c t i o n s
y o u w a n t t o d i s c o n n e c t ,

D i s c o n n e c t
S e l e c t A l l
Also, to improve quality of system fonts I had to set this in registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\ClearType]
"Quality"=dword:00000001
Sorry to keep bringing on the asks, but can we have datadisconnect file as well?
I'll try these files out on my Mteor and let you know how I go!
No Probs! here it goes...
i have no idea how to use it. My best guess is that reverse engineering of these files should bring some light on this issue

well done of a job man
i am very happy to say its working i have tried it and its working very nice .
now we have to wait for the htc and the i-mate rom to be on the net so we can try it too.
any way we will not be able to know if the 3g will work like on the dopod 595 version as that phone as a front camera as well !!
Hi all.
The rom update file is gone?
I am very eager to try this rom, the current shipped mteor rom has major issues with radio stack. Bad coverage and it gets stuck at "searching..." a lot.
Any issues with that on the dopod release?

Great! Thanks! Was a bit to fast when I checked the FTP. I will investigate if the radio stack gets any better or if it's a carrier problem.

other roms !!!!
does any one alce have any other rom files for the metor - dopod 595 ?
i am looking for the i-mate rom or the htc rom ?
thanks
just an update regarding DataDisconnect.exe :
It really does work!
to prove this :
1. initiate gprs/edge/umts/etc/ connection
2. launch \windows\DataDisconnect.exe on you MTeoR
3. screen will offer you to choose the connection that you would like to terminate.
4. place the tick and press soft button to terminate.
5. connection is terminated.
This can be used for simple "data disconnect" home screen plug-in, etc.
DataDisconnect.exe can not be called while no connection is established.

can any one help please

Just upgraded my MTeoR to the Dopod 595 firmware, and on the face of it, it seems much more stable. One thing I have noticed since getting this handset though (both sets of firmware) is what seems to be a lack of EDGE connectivity - firstly no 'E' indicator (even with the registry hack), and secondly, the modulation scheme doesn't sound like EDGE either. Am going to put it on a piece of test kit to find out! It is always possible that those idiots at Cingular have screwed the provisioning up... again.
Good idea Motin on putting together a thread with all the various versions in the field. I will certainly contribute when/if I come across a newer flash.
Finally, am I the only person who feels a little screwed over by the mighty HTC? I am not best pleased to have purchased yet another full price (non-discounted) handset from them, only to find a month or two later that they've launched a "branded" version that has the front camera on it. There was no press release that this was coming, and after all the fiasco regarding the multi-band UMTS (another reason I bought this phone!) I think they need a kick up the backside! What is coming next? The phone we all wanted in the first place, just gently slipped into the marketplace?!
Rant over. Nice piece of kit, shame about the company...
imate spjas rom is out !!!!

Hi all,
sorry for the newbie question but I'm thinking about upgrading my Trinity to WM06 and wondered if anoyone could answer some basic questions as I'm a bit confusted (... not that techie I'm afraid)
1. As my device is a SIM free, non network attached HTC P3600, do I need to do any of this "Hard-SPL" upgrading before selecting a ROM
2. is there a simple step - by - step flashing guide for newbies like me anywhere
3. Do the ROMs provided here enable SDHC for the device. I want to use higher capacity mini SD cards - this is a really important requirement
4. I love the inbuilt GPS and Tom Tom solution - are there any issues with GPS/Tom tom support in the upgrades
Many thanks in advance

Hey there, coe62!
I'm not a techie myself, but have just recently flashed my Trinity for the first time to WM6, so most of your questions were mine also. Here:
1. yes. From what I understood, also protects your device from a bad flash helping you recovering it (as far as I know, there are three of them: OliPro's HardSPL 1.30, OliPro's HardSPL 1.20 and Des' Crash Proof SPL)
2. http://www.trinityguides.info (thanks to racerx_)
3. some of the do, some of them don't, check here for details: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1635483&postcount=5
4. using iGo, so I can't tell!
Best of luck!
iGo
hi tnyynt,
i've seen u are using iGo, and also seen the small flag in the corner....so let me say first "salutari". as i'm new user of a trinity and have the german wm5 (my german sucks), i will flash it to wm6 english but i don't know if iGo is working with wm6. is it iGo os dependant?
thks!

Hey there!
YES, iGo works very well on both WM5 and WM6. I had it with the stock WM5 and now using it with a cooked WM6, it works great on both operating systems.

hi there
Am as a newbie as well, lately i've been tried flashing pretty man ROMS over Trinity Windows Mobile Section 6, and find out some ROMs are really good, smoothness, fast and damn good performance, or you can try Mary(latest ROMs). Personally, after trying cooked ROMs, i found Only _AX3L_WM6_WWE_v3.1.2c FULL & LITE (25-10-07)
This ROM is simply an edited version of the Official DOPOD's ROM (lastest released version!) for the Trinity work on my DopdD810, what i mean is with this ROM i can get connected with Internet, but rest of other ROMS don't, i've no idea Why, i am from Hong Kong, somebody has idea due to connection to the internet??
Ok, due to my bad understanding which SDHC would be most suited for my device? As i read about
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1635483&postcount=5
for ROMs flashing i follow the instructions, so far without serious errors happened, i'd to thank all of you, no matter newbies, seniors, moderators...
hi!
that's great, thanks. hopefuly i'll have time in week-end to play around and flash it!
numai bine!
Well i use this thread to post some of my questions...
i get my p3600 tomorrow and i'm very excited, so i want to flash the WM6 from bepe.
1. is there any way to backup the factory-flashed rom?
2. do i lose the warranty if i flash the device? is there a workaround?
3. I've read a few threads but i cant get an idea whats this hard spl for?
4. is it possible to reset the p3600 to factory default so may i can get warranty if somethings fails?
thanks for the replies..
Hi guys,
I want to upgrade my phone to one the WM6 roms available in here.
I just wanted to ask will the sms / email / mms settings stay once the new ROM has been flashed.
If not where can i find them to write them down.
Thanks in advance.
no, they will be erased...
take a look at the trinity upgrade guide on trinityguides.info which will take you step by step through flashing your ROM (backup, hard spl, flash ROM, restore, etc)
Erase the ROM before installing?
I heard it's better to erase the ROM before installing a new one.
A kind of a 'super' eraser to clean deply the ROM. Have you heard of any of such a program/utility?
Thanks
connetion problems
hi
i tried to get all steps like on trinityguides.info but always the same sh....
ERROR[260] : CONNECTION
1.the USB cable IS connected to PDA
2.also at hte PC
sync is done and i get always the same, doesn´t mater what i try
- HardSPL
- ROM flash
has anyone an idea? i just want to have a german wm6 on my 3600. later on a can install TT on the "normal" way.
thx for any help
Well folks, just got myself a nice shiny t-mobile MDA Vario after my XDA Exec died of hunger.
I want to upgrade my WM5 to WM6 and want to retain all the features of the software i already have atm.
This is my Wizards Info (G4 im pretty sure)
3.08.0001 IPL
3.08..0001 SPL
02.69.11 GSM
3.8.2.1 OS
What i am looking for is basically a very fast running WM6, so after a while i can build on it etc.
And i want the same usage on the cpu and ram etc too, at the moment i have about 26 megs from a fresh startup and i find my wizard extremely fast and responsive
What would people reccomend for a new user like me, did microsoft release any official roms or was it just the SDK?
Thanks
Exemike
"did microsoft release any official roms or was it just the SDK?"
no ms dont make roms and even if they did they would not work
roms are required to include the correct drivers spc for the device
if it dont it dont start up
and sdk mean standart development kit which is what 3th party programmers use to program up agenst when they make programs sdk == api description doc and examples
so not really a rom related thing as using the api require a rom where the programs can run
what ms provide is the base libs the mobile makers include their required drivers into to
make a rom for their device which can boot
Ahh, so what would you reccomend for the best step up from WM5?, any that come to mind? i do enjoy my Vario alot andwould hate to mess it up.
Hi Guys n Gals
I have a couple of questions if i may. I have a SHIFT X9500 and i am wondering about upgrading the ROM to allow GPS functionality. I have heard this can be done but am not entirely sure how.
Will i need to cook a ROM or are the .nbf files to use with a loader exe ??
Are there complete loaders / packages i can do this with ??
Can i even use my existing ROM update utility to load files ??
and finally . . .
Can someone take a quick 2 mins to explain how Vista sits in relation to WM6 (SnapView bit). Are these operating systems running side by side or is vista running a shell inside WM6 ( unlikely i know but better to ask and not find out the hard way later lol )
I have loaded the ROMS onto a WIzard many times but this is my first SHIFT if i am able to go ahead with a ROM upload
At the mo, i am presuming i would need to cook a ROM then upload to the SHIFT ???
Sorry for the questions but i have been away from upgrading HTC toys for a while...
Any answers / info will be muchly apprecieted
Thank you all in advance..

SHIFT coming !!
xda-dev -> Shift -> Shift
WIKI would have covered all your questions too !!
Just get HARDSPL, get a rom with GPS enabled and get lucky, but be aware, the shift has few memory to store maps on!
Greets
ps. vista and Mobile run together each on its processor, one key press to change the OS in a second!
before you do all the stuff and read the wiki and threads about liberating please UTFSE !!!
for all that not know what UTFSE is (like me ;-)
UTFSE = Use The Freaking Search Engines
please who can help me 'how to make a Rom (Windows Mobile 6.5 interface of 6.1, and submenu to be the wm 6.5) for HTC Diamond (diamond 100), because me i do not understand well the following steps to do a Rom, are complicated for me. There are many Rom `s but I want one that contain only programs that I need and therefore have more free ram, because I installed about 100 d Rom's, space and ram is only 20 - 35 free of 192, please be nice if someone can help me. There are many Rom `s that they have many programs and simultaneously more home screen that some of them where I have more free RAM are a little undone Well, I think the one who did that worked for that Rom to please as many as possible. I do not know what ROM I use to be good for me. I feel like a crazy : ( . I apologize if I posted rong right here.

Try PPCK (http://ppckitchen.org/) Or look at some VK (Visual Kitchen) Builds. If you dont know how to make your own custom rom, then just get some that people already made. As you get more familiar with things, then you can try it. Look here for some help - http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=36062. I am new to building roms too. So i am not a person who knows everything, but i have picked up a lot of info. Just PM me for questions. I might also make a custom rom for you, if you want. Regards ZALI
