Hey all my Q. Is I am switching my 4g SD card to a 32g SD card and I was wondering if I just copy and past and everything stays the same or do I have to do something else when I switch my SD card...
Thanks. In advance

You can just copy and paste everything from the old to the new and it should work fine. The only thing I can think of that might be a problem is if you are using an EXT partition for apps2sd. You probably won't be able to copy that data over.

Well the best thing to do is copy all the files over to the computer, format, and put back all your files

Under Settings, under Storage there is the option.
Be sure to save ur stuff from that external sd card to ur pc first, then format it.

What ROM are you running?
Ice Cream Hackish 10

Probably something with the ROM. I always had problems with sd cards on cm7 and both the ics builds. Kept losing the card everytime the phone went to sleep.
Now I'm on stock kk4 rom and its still not showing up...

No offense, I am only trying to cover the bases. But is ur external sd card being recognized under Menu/Settings/SD card and phone storage/SD card ?? And if so, is it mounted ??
Also, is the directory path /sdcard/external_sd ?? (u can look at My Files in the app drawer and see)

Update
I kept having this problem on kb2 and jf6. I swapped the card for one that had about 3gb of stuff on it and no more problems. Either my first card is bad, or it needs to have some stuff on it.

+1. If the problem still persists, try to reflash the rom that you're using.
Also make sure you have checked/unchecked the USE INTERNAL STORAGE in case what you are seeing as external is actually internal sdcard and vice versa. But what you have doesnt seem like a cm7 issue I have seen before so unless you had it connected to a pc and pulled the cable out while something was being done to the external sdcard (removable) that corrupted the card. Jn that case pull out the card, reinsert it and see if it starts to work. Also then at that point check to make sure you can see the files on the INTERNAL SDCARD at the correct location mnt/sdcard. Then if the external card still is not working try to reformat it to see if you can save it.
I have had the external sdcard turn off after a small fall where I had to actually power off the phone, pull the card out and put it back in, then reboot the phone and it was fine. Hope you get it figured out.

How about other sd cards? Have you tried to put it on your phone?

The external SD card folder is in a different location on ICS. It's in the root area under EMMC. (It used to be under something like sdcard/external-sd).
I thought mine wasn't working either. Not only that, but my media database got corrupted so that external sd songs wouldn't play because my Captivate was searching for them in the old location.

Oops i thought you said CM9. Perhaps CM7 works similarly though. Check it our.

So I was thinking of upgrading my SD card from 8GB to a 16GB card and I have a stupid question to ask -
If I copy the entire content of my current 8gb card onto the new 16gb one and plug it in, will everything work normally as before?
If not, is there another method to doing this?
It should work exactly the same. Actually, there are some things that dont need the sd card data.
Even I have this doubt.

I did the exact same thing. Literally just copy everything over. And it will work exactly the same as before.

I did it several times (8->16->32) and confirm that simple file copying works fine.
Thanks a lot for the replies ^^
Hi, I had purchased a new sd card, can I just transfer my data from old sd card to new sd card and insert into my phone?

Yes you can, I did that
But if you don't transfer some things over, you may very force closes in some apps that need days from the sd card

No problems if you are transferring everything over
If you leave out some things you think are useless, like I did, you may have problems. I just transferred what I thought was needed and I had no problems
I do Fat32
I use Airdroid

Most SDcards are already formatted to FAT 32. I use Airdroid https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sand.airdroid
Simply copy ALL from your SDcard to computer, put new card in phone then copy back from PC to phone
