Old news...
This has been around since at least July 30.
Engadget dot com /2010/07/30/motorola-droid-getting-android-2-2-next-week/
In fact, you can now manually force the 2.2 install on a US Droid (not sure about Milestone). Check Engadget or Gizmodo for more.
Guys, please check the below link where you will find how to update Froyo 2.2 on Milestone (read the users comments below the subject and you will find that some users succeeded in installing it to Milestone (also the sample photos are from Milestone)

Well, lets get serious, honestly, we need to do something about our milestones and froyo...
So I got this idea where all of us milestone users around the world demand motorola at the same day to upgrade our phones to froyo, or else, we won't buy motorola anymore, and we will start campaining about not buying any other motorola android devices with a locked bootloader.
So, what should we do?
We bomb their twitters accounts (Motodev, Motomobile, lorifraleigh, mlabowicz) twitting something "we want froyo on our milestones and we want it now! wake up and do something about it! #twitterbomb".
How do we do it?
We all do it by the last week of this mont, everyday, sereral times a day, ask everyone you know to retweet your #twitterbomb, we need to put the pressure on motorola.
So put it in your calendars, set an alarm so we dont forget it, lets twitter bomb motorola, foward this thread, share it on twitter, let everyone knows about it, we have until monday to join people to our cause!
Do you know any emails account from motorola offcials we can use? post them and i will share them here!
Btw, the month is AUGUST 2010
I would do a second tweet: "Open the freaking bootloader!! Why the hell Droid is not closed and Milestone is??!?".
That would sure solve all of our problems.
Thanks.
Anthonws.
Im sure their answer will be something like we forgot to do it, sorry we ****ed up... or maybe to get you hoocked

the reason why Droid hasn't a signed bootloader is well known...
Google had to work on the Droid it self... so they had to be able to flash their own roms into it, making Motorola unlock the Device!
Milestone was completely made by Motorola it self read NO Google Navigation by Default, instead MotoNavi...
The reason is nothing like that, where did you come up with it?
The reason why the droid is unlocked,is because apple has the rights for multitouch in the u.s.,so motorola unlocked the bootloader,so that users can enable multitouch themselves.milestone has multitouch support out of the box.thats the one and only reason for it.a little research never harms.
Google maps are also present.
Google navigation isnt available outside the u.s. yet in general.things are simple.dont get comfused.

Whoa cool down buddy, it's just a phone... LOL
You may be right, but it is also correct that Google worked on the Droid for several months before release.
BTW ..Google Navigation is available in Canada and many other countries, where have you been? The Milestone only comes with MotoNav so you gotta install Google Maps Navigation manually from the market.
Yeah. Because spamming them really is gonna help.
What is this, /b/?
I think Spamming like this will never help. Company like Motorola ,which is spread all over the world with hundreds of categories of products, do not need to pay attentions to any such spamming or shouting.
Do you people really think that just by spamming like this on twitter will make whole world stop buying motorola range of products? certainly not. Like dsixda said Its Just a Phone, lolz.
2.1 updates are still coming to many devices. May be they are still doing some R & D on Froyo on Milestone and will release whey they confirm the stability and power consumption, etc. As per some unreliable(?) sources, Froyo is coming to Milestone in Q3, i.e. upto end of Sept 2010. Click here
https://service.o2online.de/portal/...ostpaid&hwid=4510+020109+00&tid=N-HWO-H-NC-20
On above page see "Besonderheiten" paragraph and find the line "Webkit Browser - durch Android 2.2 Update Flash-fähig". Though in german you can easily know whats written. If one Milestone gets Froyo, surely all will get. You just need patience.
I EVEN SUSPECT THIS TWITTERBOMB IDEA, May be you already know that Froyo is coming in Q3, and you are asking to bomb in last week of this month. It seems it will be easier for you to claim the credit of Froyo on Milestone in Sept coz you asked to bomb in last week of Aug 2010. LOLZ just kidding, dont mind it.
I am also doubtful that why twitter will keep quiet to spamming. There are high chances of your twitter accounts be suspended/closed after such spamming. So be careful.
lolz
I would really like to know what pisses you guys off having 2.1 installed? Only because of JIT, Tethering and the likes?
I'm just happy that Motorola still releases bug fixes for the Milestone (as another company leaves its customers supportless in terms of upgrades => see HTC Tattoo)...
Regarding the unlocking of the bootloader I'm also of the opinion that it should be unlocked...
I'm not to bothered about 2.2 but I want 3.0. Motorola should update the milestone as it is their flagship (I think that term is correct) device juat like the htc desire is htc's.

To the OP: It'd be MORE MATURE instead to ask the Twitter account @ MotoMobile and Motorola when and if they are going to have the Milestone update. If lots of people ask (not "Twitter bomb") it would make them realize there is a lot of interest out there. I don't want us to stoop to the level that makes them think all XDA'ers are silly children who don't deserve 2.2.
The "I want my 1 point 6" campaign for the Rogers HTC Dream (Android 1.5) was successful enough on Twitter that Rogers decided to offer Dream users a free Magic which would be upgraded to 2.1 in the future.
afaik, the "I want my 1 point 6" campaign was for both the Magic and the G1/Dream
and they're still wauting for an upgrade to anything above 1.5 on their Magic
so i dont know if that can be called a success...
in Belgium, where i bought my Magic, they're still on 1.5 as well
upgraded to the Milestone (unbranded, i'm starting to learn) about a month ago, expecting it to be one of the first phones to be upgraded to 2.2, only to find out Motorola wasnt even sure if they would update the Milestone at all!

Fair enough, but they did get a free new HTC Magic and got to keep their Dreams, plus they were "promised" the Magic would get the 2.1 update eventually.
Anyways, straying away from topic...
So I am betting we do not get froyo before the end of the year. What I mean is the official release will not be this year. My question is, why is it that most of the other phones that can handle froyo already have had it for months, but Samsung is so behind and can't get it out the door?

Since nothing constructive can come out of this thread, I'll direct you toward a thread on another forum with the same topic being covered:

Hmm.. I'm going to still say before Christmas.
As it is now Samsung Epic has the official Froyo build from Samsung. So... one can only hope.
This thread is a waste:
1. Samsung still says by the End of Year we will have Froyo. They never said we would have it earlier - only the international i9000 was specified as November
2. Epic got a leaked release - it is not official Froyo. It may turn out to be, but there is not official annoucnement from Sprint or Samsung that Froyo has been released for the Epic.
People need to get facts straight. They may not be what anyone wants to hear, but they are the facts.

I thought the same Epic release was hosted on Google's servers so... doesn't that make it official?
lol.. what I get for reading Endgadget while on the pot

Google hosts all kinds of stuff. It could be any one of the Beta builds pushed out to testers OTA.
If it were official, don't you think Samsung and Sprint would be shouting about it?
One web site had this post:
"I don't think this is the real deal.t The only phones that got the OTA were one with a hardware version endind with .4 ,these are test phones. Every production Epic is a .5 phone. You can check your version by looking at (about phone) in the settings menu."
Although it is 2.2.1 - most sites are saying now it is most likely a leaked Dev build.
My 2c is that ATT couldn't really care less if they push out 2.2..so I doubt the Captivate will ever have an official upgrade to froyo..just too expensive in terms of R&D..remember, we're dealing with Ma Bell here-just under a different dress
HTC recently released a ROM update on their site for the AT$T Tilt 2. Info about it was nowhere to be found on the AT$T site. This is a phone that is no longer in production and near the end of its life cycle, but AT$T thought enough of it to release not only an updated ROM with fixes, but with the nicer Sense 2.5 UI instead of the original TF3D 2.1. I think a Froyo update from AT$T for our phones will eventually come.
I'm still shooting for St. Patrick's Day, around the end of Q1.
Can't post links but go look the smartphonemag website and look up an article by Steve Green dated 8th of Dec. Says he spoke to a B&N rep who showed him a test OS running on a Nook Color. Had Android 2.2 with official android market (which had certain apps removed [I imagine things like GPS apps will be gone]). The rep also said it addressed battery issues and performance issues. The new OS even uses the normal android home screen and you switch into the Nook UI when you want to read books etc...
Hell yehs if its true.
EDIT: Oh and the B&N rep said they were aiming for January 2011 for release.
Please check for news already posted, 5 threads down:

Yeah I've seen it now, can a mod please delete my thread
To anyone awaiting official 2.2 update from B&N and/or access to the android market
If you want a full-fledged tablet, you should probably just root your nook.
Over the past few days, I've seen a lot of people wondering whether they should root their device or wait for B&N's update, as if that will automatically make it a full tablet. Unfortunately, that is not true in the slightest.
The official update, which has not been assigned a date of roll-out yet (sometime Q1/2011, but I've heard end of January), will not change much about your nook. It will still look and feel exactly the same, and still have many of the same limitations. It will not be running the standard android 2.2 UI.
It will not have the android market either. It will only have a handful of apps, if any, from those developers who take part in the NOOK developers program (http://nookdeveloper.barnesandnoble.com/). All of the applications will be "reader-centric".
It does appear that it will be possible to sideload applications that conform to the Android API 7 (no FroYo love) but this will only be available to those people who sign up and register the SN of their NOOKcolor to a developer account.
If you poke around on the website (particularly the developer forums) you can find lots of interesting tidbits about the upcoming update (NOOKcolor 1.1) and what it will include.
Hopefully this helps.

Edit: (for the record, I am in no way an official B&N spokesman. I just am a wee bit more privy to stuff than others)
Thanks for the official update. I can't imagine many official b&n apps. There's only so many sodoku variations you can make.
I will say that the froyo base brought a lot of improvements over eclair, but I do agree that a lot of people will probably be let down when they see the update and wonder where their new launcher is. I for one am happy with my rooted NC, and look forward to the 2.2 update.
I get the impression that the 1.1 update is not the B&N Froyo update. I think it just adds the framework for approved apps and "developer mode" to permit sideloading apps for testing. Probably some stability/usability issues as well. Have they said anything "official" regarding what 1.1 will contain?
Homer
Barnes and Noble doesn't say anything official until the day it becomes official.
It is probably a 50/50 chance that the forthcoming update it will be the much talked about FroYo B&N update.
But if you were to root after the 1.1 update, would you get a 2.2 android?
Hey if I may ask will there be an official bluetooth in 1.1. ?
Pavlos
Some people are waiting to root only because they don't have to worry about doing it twice. My understanding is that you have to restore your device to original form to get the update, then root it. I might be wrong.
OK so it seems we are getting a new version 1.4.
what do we know.......
Well it seems both Nook Tablet and Nook Color are getting 1.4.
Would that mean that it could be based on something higher than Froyo.
Since B&N is marketing theit new product as a tablet that could probably link to a tablet os for both devices.
Maybe...
How does 1.4 effect...
While the news sites are touting the new "stuff" in NC 1.4, how will this effect those of us with Rooted NC's? ( remeber the problem the 1.3 upgrade had )
I look forward to some of the new apps, mostly the HuluPlus app... I wonder if that means they will be unblocking regular Hulu from us too?

I would say to hold off on updating if you can until xda either gives the go-ahead or has a procedure to follow.
As for Hulu -- I would assume regular Hulu will still be blocked, unfortunately. They seem to have a stance that everything but a PC is a mobile device and subject to different rules.
No idea about whether its going to be gingerbread.
The update is not out and wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't until nooktablet launch. The 1.1 update for the simple touch is out.
From what I can tell, there is going to be some sort of 'account management' app so you can handle gift cards and credit cards without the need of the browser. Netflix will be available as a download from the press quotes I'm seeing.
Does gingerbread give any DRM security that froyo doesn't? Because that might be the only reason why it would get bumped up to a new andoird version, to appease Hulu and Netflix (and their evil masters)
i think the most interesting thing is wether they updated the kernel version.....
I'm impressed with B&N's support of the NC. You don't see this many updates on phones.
It is easier to update a device if you don't have a third party in between the developers and the users (i.e. cellular carriers)
Good news is that it does actually apear to be Gingerbread, on the other hand BN decided to delay it until December.
And the delay appears to be a marketing decision, according to what people are saying on the bn forums.
Thanks for the advice, but how can I stop the update until XDA has help for us?
