I'm trying to add JIT to a custom rom based off of .5 Ruu (which i get from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=681697)
I've using the JIT lib files from pretty much every source I could find here on this forum. I have added to 2 lines to the build.prop file.
Phone boots up to lock screen then continuously boot loops. Ah, curious as to what I'm missing here to get this working?
Go to the zenherofx rom thread. Go to second post. Dl the jit.zip and use that. U can replace the build.prop with urs as long as it has the lines added. U might want to take the gebiewidget out unless u want it. That works for sure. Or go to either of my two roms and take one of the jit.zip files there. Replace build.prop. resign and flash. Ur probably just missing the correct update script.
Also don't add it to a rom cause it needs a lot of memory for first start up and it wont start correctly if it starts within a rom.
Flash the rom let it boot then flash the jit.zip
I suppose my question is half answered but still a tad confused. BTW this is a rom i'm building not just trying to add jit from a flash but include in base rom.
I gather from what you you're saying JIT cannot be a part of the base rom because it needs to much memory at initial startup.
If that is the case how did you include JIT in your blue echo rom? Kind of confused on this whole matter. Do you have the lib files for jit included in your rom but have a line somewhere that stops it from enable?

Nope I tried to keep it in the base rom. It would start up then boot loop after first start up. It would run out of memory. Nfinitefx45 is working on a way to have it start differently.
I took it out of blue echo and then made a flashable zip to be flashed after u boot up the rom.
Also there is a newer .6 version of ruu that I would suggest as a base. Newer files and a little less lag when it comes to making phone calls

Lmao I hear ya. All four of my roms were down for 24 hours due to it and not finding a fix. I finnaly had to start over. It was a pain in the ass. Also to help with space and speed once ur done theming and Modding the rom and it flashes I'd recommend a PNG optimize program to make the rom smaller in size. Smaller means faster.
Yeah already have a program that png optimizes and zipaligns apks as batches. I used to dev before 1.5

First and foremost, this should have been posted in the Q&A forum. This is development, not a place to fix your boot looped phone.
Now, to help you. Where did you get this update? Why were you installing it?
I would suggest booting to recovery and wiping your phone. Then reinstall the ROM that you were on and see if it will boot up after that. Or just restore your nandroid backup if you have one. If that doesn't work you may need to wipe your ext partition too. Without knowing what the update was or what was included in it, it's hard to say how much you will have to wipe to get your ROM working again. For instance, if it included a radio update you might have to reflash your radio.
I got this from droidheaven.com. sorry that I posted it in the wrong place
He said he did restore his phone and that he wanted to build a boot.img, so in a way it is devolpment since he is not at a boot loop

all of ur questions are already answered throughout this forum, use the search function. but to make ur troubles a bit easier. find a rom on here that is declared stable, reformat ur sdcard with the correct partitions(again everything u need to know can be found with the search function) and just reflash. if u cannot figure any of this out, throw ur g1 into the wall as hard as possible. fixed my problem.

Cyan's latest experimental ROM has a few faetures from Donut and has working Wifi, unlike that donut preview ROM, why not use that?

Too right, I highly doubt they got permission to host any of those ROMs, and that fact that they release them with no information leads to people coming to xda for help.

If you don't know what it is, leave it alone.
Don't just go messing with files all willy nilly. Read through this forum and you'll find all kinds of helpful things, like what a boot.img file is for. Start messing with things like that and you'll be crashing your phone faster than I can type this (and I type fast).
Just leave your phone alone. If you feel like doing some modifications to it, just use some of the stable builds here and don't fuss with them, they are stable for a reason.

Tinkering with things is how some people learn! I completely disagree with your statement.
To the OP, mess with whatever you want, just be prepared to break things if you don't know what they do. Reading and learning is part of the journey, but eventually you are going to have to start futzing with things. When you do, be prepared for failure and technical problems. I bought a spare G1 on ebay for just this purpose. If it breaks, gets bricked, or is down for a few hours, then I still have my primary phone. If you want to start tinkering seriously, then consider a spare phone.

Its messing up cause of a few reasons.
There is no reason to resign all the apps individually unless the uid's r conflicting which it is most likely not.
Also be careful with the apps u take out cause some of the apps work cause of other apps. There is a thread out that explains what apps r safe to remove
Also how r u signing. R u enabling a2sd, making overclocked, etc. Make sure update script is correct. Also the boot animation can be changed just have to add in the update script to delete the boot animation. Zip

I grew tired of doing this manually via the command line every time I re-flashed so I followed what others did and pieced this together. This takes cares of startup/shutdown audio and video. It basically eliminates anything that remotely resembles T-Mobile and gives that extra long shutdown sequence (60 frames). UPDATE: It works great with UVJI5. In fact, the new ROM is the reason why I created this and thus the only ROM I've tested it on. UPDATE: As expected, it works with UVJI6. You will just have to re-root. ROM Manager's automatic process was acting up so I had to go into its manual mode and choose the file myself.
You will need to flash this via ROM Manager.
Best,
DCC
UPDATE: Attached to post; VapidShare gave up on us prematurely.
UPDATE: I apologize for being a little vague, unintentionally ... this gives the phone the stock SGS I9000 startup/shutdown animations. There is another update out there that accomplishes the same thing but for whatever reason only offered 14 frames in the shutdown. This is the full 60 frames of the S breaking up into little pieces. It's the reverse of the startup, essentially.
Reserved by OP for future use
Totally joking of course ... I just always wanted to do that!
Works great, thanks! First time I have seen the shutdown longer than 14 frames. Hooray!
Does this work on the new firmware?

Great question ... I forgot to mention in my original post: this update works great with UVJI5 ... in fact, it's what led me to create it. Jacking around with Kies for an hour in vain left me with no energy to deal with extricating my phone from those horrid T-mobile startup/shutdown sounds and graphics.
Do you have a mirror rapidshare keeps giving me an error message

This looks like the same one I already had I want to one with the extended shutdown animation like the OP had posted
IDK the one i posted replaces tmobile with the original galaxy s boot/shutdown
removed link
Sorry guys, I am at work and my client's firewall does not let me through to rapidshare ... if I can find a few minutes of downtime, I will seek alternatives. I can't even download the file to attach it to a post in this forum (it's almost 8MB, BTW; I don't know if I'm even allowed to). I will see if it's at least still on my phone.
Yes, this removes the T-Mobile start-up shutdown animations (audio and video) with the stock SGS I9000 ones but it has the extended version of the shutdown. As I originally mentioned, I pieced it together from others' updates.
UPDATE: I attached the file to the original post! My apologies to all who were inconvenienced by the RapidShare link.
NP no rush here.

Installed through Rom Manager with no issues.
Very nice. Thank you very much.
the reason the original only had 14 frames is because the original shutdown would only play 14 frames and stop.
Does this work on the stock roms and some of Eugenes.
I haven't ventured out into the JI5 stuff simply because I'm waiting for all the smoke to clear.

It should work just fine with any ROM. It is a very simple script. It just removes the existing PowerOn and Shutdown sounds and replaces the two bootsamsung QMG files and overwrites the shutdown animation folder. In the worst case, it would just do nothing.
Folks, feel free to download it and see the constituent files. There is an update-script in the META-INF/com/google/.... directory.
Good luck,

Click "Install ROM from SD Card", then choose this file (GalaxySBoot.zip or whatever), don't choose any "Pre-installation" options, and just click OK. Since it's not named update.zip, it shouldn't conflict with ROM Manager's "process" (for some people, ROM Manager needs to lay down its update.zip in order to ensure that when booting into the stock recovery it is able to load itself via said file).
I hope this helped.
Hey all, Team Black Hat have released a series of update.zip’s that will allow you to easily flash the newest kernel, radio, system, and bootloader. Thought some might wanna download ASAP in case they get pulled.
Article About it here:

Cheers! And all credit and thanks foes to Team Black Hat!

Flashing the kernel and radio as I type.

Sorry.. just trying to understand...
I have downloaded these 4 files. Now I go to Bootstrap/Recovery and use the Update.zip option for these files one at a time? (in a particular order?) OR do I re-name them update.zip one at a time?
Secondly, I have ApeX 1.2.1 installed... it's working with .320 and I wonder if it will work with the new files?
Any advice on these 2 things. (please)
Thanks.

To answer your first question, we don't need to rename them. We can got o bootstrap and update them one by one. I don't think there's a particular order, however, I do think that we can only do one at a time (install one and then reboot)
I'm not sure about coming from Apex, i'm personally coming from Fission 2.3.1, and I am a little scared to do these....

Yeah no renaming is needed.
I am on fission 2.3.1 as well, flashed the Kernel, Bootloader, and Radio Image all one after another while in clockworkmod recovery, and had 0 issues.
U will have to *228 again after radio, but other than that u its fine.
So I just got a question..is this the file that is downloaded ota or put together by these guys? I only ask cause trying to understand why we can't just throw in our own stuff in this update.zip and resign it..but I am sure there is some kind of keys we will be missing
Did the 2.3.340 SBF also update the radio or should I use the .zip to update that?

Lol, if only it were that simple, unfortunately we can't because of the bootloader being locked, it wont pass security, so we can only modify or use their kernels.

edit: i am searching while im waiting for an answer, my bootloader says 30.04 but i dont understand the whole sbf stuff and i can get into clockworkmod recovery im not completely helpless just a little lost after playing with my eris so much.
Confused
I downloaded each file then rebooted into recovery. I installed each file one by one. I reboot system out of recovery and I get a black screen that says:
Bootloader
30.04
Err: A5, 70, 39, 00, 27
Battery OK
OK to Program

if you are trying to add in the modded battery on first boot, the only way i have gotten that to work is by decompiling, making edits by hand, and then recompiling. if i tried using something from the kitchen injected in the initial boot, it just bootlooped.
if you want this to work, you are going to need to learn how to use apk manager and edit the xml. otherwise, stick to just flashing the batt mod after the initial boot
makes sense
That kind of goes back to my original question of how to recompile that stuff so that I can do that. Well when I first started out on this journey.

its not exactly simple.
use apk manager to decompile the apk
make your edits to the xml and add in your images
upon recompile, you will say yes, it is a system apk
select yes again
then in the 'keep' folder you delete all the stuff that you just modded (they will be the original xmls/images in the keep folder, and will actually be replaced by your edits when the recompile completes)
delete the resources file
then finish compiling
it will probably take a few tries to get it right, and have some notes handy if you plan on doing lots of edits at once, but start small and only one small change at a time.
