Hey Guys,
I'm really liking my first Android phone, but am having a heck of time working out the kinks. Phone calls and text work. Here's a list and if anyone can help out with any of them, I'd really appreciate it.
1. The phone constantly tries to do Sprint Auto-Activation. I *believe* this is causing the GUI to crash constantly...I've tried three ROMs and none run very stable. Is there a way to disable that pesky auto-activate?
2. I need data settings for Virgin or Boost. Coming from an iPhone, I don't see a setting for an APN anywhere. I think I have the settings, but I'm not sure I'm putting them in the right place.
3. Is there a special ROM I should install since I'm not on Sprint? I'm surprised there aren't more Verizon ROMs around.
Please help with any suggestions.
Realized this should probably be in the "General" instead....

So your on virginmobile but with a cdma hero? Awesome to get to the apn settings just hold the green call button down till you get the voice dial or just do it from your menu. When it comes up say, "open apns". It will take you to the apns. Are you rooted? Also to get the phone to stop doing that pesky
Thanks for the help. I'm working on the APN stuff now. I think your last post got cut short. I'd really like to know how to disable to auto-activate crap. I'm also getting invalid username/password, but I'm sure thats just becuase its trying to log into Sprint.
So u can use sprint phones on virgin mobile? please how do u do this..that 25 buck plan looks to good to pass up.. How would i say use my hero on virgin mobile..
I'm only able to place calls and text. NO DATA which is driving me nuts. I need the APN/Data settings for VM, but no one seems to have them.
And my phone keeps trying to do Sprint auto-activation, which is also driving me nuts. And I keep getting GUI crashes no matter which ROM I use. So far the process has been anything but smooth.
Does anyone have ideas on disabling Sprint auto-activation? Thanks!

I knows this isn't much help but do a search for cricket. I saw a way earlier just gotta find it cuz i'm not doing anything i'll look to ..... try this enter ##data# then hit edit enter your msl then turn off vocoder. Also hit menu then commit changes
I'm pretty sure I seen an APK in the phone somewhere that was related to the over the air activation stuff... might wanna look for it.
I could be wrong, that may be for the Moment, but that's Android on Sprint too so I dont see why the Sprint Hero would be different.
I too am really interested in putting my Hero on Virgin Mobile US. Has anyone figured out the data settings for wap/apn and whatever else is needed? If not, if one were to purchase a cheap virgin phone, say a jax, could the information be taken from there?
Also, would it be necessary to use a non-sprint ROM since virgin mobile runs on the Sprint network???? Thanks for any help.
Ok, I tried the BitterSweet and the nags went away and everything is running smooth on my Hero...I'm really liking it. Just no DATA. I'm still waiting on settings from someone. I tried VM tech support and they didn't even know what an APN was...seriously.
Yes, you can buy a cheap $10 Virgin Mobile phone and use those "settings" for the Hero. That's all I'll say about that.

Lol, not asking about that one setting. I already knew that part, I mean if someone were to buy a cheap phone would they be able to get all the settings, apn/wap and so on from it. If so, which phone, and what else would be needed?

can program your apns in by holding down the green call button and saying "open apns" also try pushing ##data# and you'll get a menu with data and mms stuff. Another note I've been doing some research to avoid the overpriced $75 dollars to get the phone flashed to metropcs and (two things) one they say they've rooted the hero. Two they say that for a normal flash all they do is change the prl.
I've accessed the ##DATA# and APN menus, but I have no idea what to change them to. I've also looked into PRLs but I can't seem to find one for Virgin. I know they just use the Sprint network so wouldn't the PRL be the same?
If anyone is really interested in using the Hero on Virgin, Boost, or Cricket PM me. I searched the internet for hours finding all the info and I don't mind helping someone else out. The more people we get working on this, the more likely we are to figure these settings out.

**** I'm trying to get it to work on metro. My main thing right now is to stop it from doing the hands free activation. I know we have slightly separate goals but that is something we could work on together. What you really need is for the op of this thread to send you his prl.
I got rid of the Sprint Auto-Activation by installing BitterSweets ROM. It's working great so far.

Just realized you were the op can you upload your prl for others? A full nandroid would be awesome
The PRL I'm using is the standard one that comes with the Hero. I haven't changed it. I can upload it, but it should be one everyone has by default on Sprint. I forget the version...

Hey guys not sure if this is the right place to post this or not, so mods if you need to move it, go ahead.
So since day one with my incredible i have had poor signal issues that i thought was due to internal antenna design or something that HTC could fix with an update. After looking around on the internet i found a hybrid prl that some guy alters for the touch pros. Well i installed it on my incredible i went from 97db to 85db in the same exact location with out touching the phone. it is a hybrid alltell/verizon prl here is the link http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=110828 the one i used is 65114m. I will update this later and let you guys know if my cell standby battery use goes down, probably tomorrow. it has been my biggest battery culprit. Well let me know what you guys think and please try it before you post anything negative.
Update Instructions:
This is the order as done on my phone, Can you do a *228 with success?
Save the .prl file to your sd card
make sure that your sd card accessible from astro or something similair
dial ##778
hit Edit mode
enter 000000
hit prl
hit update prl
scroll to the 65144.prl file
hit ok
hit menu
hit commit modifications
your phone should restart and your done.
this isn't working for me, i get the please enter password and enter the 6 zeros. I see an update prl button but when i hit it alls i get is this thing that says "epst" onthe top and a folder a type selection and a box to type in..... no menu or edit available
Updated First post.
something tells me this is probably no different than updating the prl via the standard 228 method

Judging by the OP on ppcgeeks, this is only an issue for people living in an area where there's more Alltel coverage than Verizon coverage (southern states, maybe?). The rest of us had the -< 2 bars issue fixed a while ago with an verizon PRL update. I check PRLs with *228 every day, I'm on 51920.
you are correct, i live in the tampa, fl area, where altell has better signal, and my signal went way up with this update. But this actually is different than just doing *228. *228 only gives you the verizon towers with the altell towers that have already been switched over. this gives you all of the altell towers as well as the verizon towers. Speed test went from .5Mbps up and .5Mbps down to 1.45Mbps down and .87Mbps up. Signal used to be 97db now at 85db!

so we are all assuming this isn't for verizon users other than in the southern states with alltel?

Alltel is now Verizon, as of a while ago, Verizon bought them out
No, i have never had altell. Verizon owns altell now but hasn't switched over all of their towers yet you need to check the map posted below. it's not just southern states. Check out this post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=673661) but the file i linked is newer.
Thanks I will try this updated Hybrid PRL!
Yes the hybrid PRL will not come from a standard *228 option 2. I (live in the dirty south) currently use the hybrid PRL 65024 that I found back in May which improved my signal and network speed at home (although made my network connection at work slower). If you try one of these you can always *228 option 2 to get your default PRL back in place.

It looks as if this guy is going to keep updating his post for prls so this may be a plus!
Just tried myself
I live in Largo, FL and work in St. Petersburg, so i decided to try this too. I can say that it definitely worked as far as reception, I went from between -87 to -93 dBm to -70 to -77 dBm. HOWEVER, I did the speed test and went from 720d and 806u averages to 148d and 712u averages, does that make any sense?
Wow reception improvement! Went from 94 to 75. Great find bro! Also, I saw in the notes that this needs to be updated on a regular basis??
that's wierd, both of mine went up together...

some roms do not allow the ##778 code to work, I had to flash back to the stock rom to do this.
I live in st. pete, fl and from my house I saw a jump from 93dBm to 78dBm in my living room. I used the same spot, with the phone in the same position to try it out.
Also, my speedtest results went from under .5mb down and .5 mb up to 1.5 up and 1 down, thank you to the OP

It depends on what rom you are running, if the rom doesn't have the espt.apk then you will be unable to do ##778
Edit: sorry we posted at the same time
Already had prl 65144 on my Incredible. Live in Eastern ND.
Edit: This was the prl that was on the phone from Verizon. I haven't modified it in any way.
I see this question asked a few times within other treads but wasn't ever really answered clearly in my situation. I have successfully network unlocked my Sprint HTC One. When I put the sim in I get no errors and dialing 4636 brings me to the menu where I can change to wcmda preferred..gsm only... etc.. The phone reads the phone number off the sim and lists it on this page as well. Heres my issue I have verified that phone will cover the same bands where I am so that should not be an issue. I can not get a signal with this phone with 2 different sims. I made sure I did all the obvious things with the settings, the APN's, flashed different radios, and tried different options is the 4636 menu. Ive used different roms as well...When I go to select or search for my network both options are grayed out.... I can connect to Verizon and I can connect to sprint towers but no Dice on ATT. I am currently on version 4.1.2 and have tried all available radios. Has anyone had success in the new York New Jersrey PA area with using this phone on ATT. If so what is the setup you are using.

The Sprint HTC one has blocked the carrier id's for domestic use aka att. You can however if your s-off you can flash the initial release radio the first radio when the Sprint HTC was released and it will allow you to connect to domestic carriers.
I'm in Ohio so not too far from you and I can pick up T-Mobile and att using the initial release radio, it is the only radio I could get to pick up signal.
Here is the first radio released http://d-h.st/HHD
Im currently s-off and flashed that radios. When I select network connection the two options are still grayed out. Could the rom choice make any difference ?

I am having the same issue with my Sprint HTC One. I've tried everything mentioned above and no one has answered. Are you guys still having this issue? And if not what did you do to fix it. I have a Sprint HTC One with S-Off, Unlocked Bootloader, the Radio that is listed here and the latest ViperOne 5.7.0 ROM. Thanks!
EDIT: My phone is unlocked and I have been using T-Mobile for the past month just fine, and want to try AT&T.

I have figured out a way to make AT&T work with the phone. When you place a Sprint or Verizon sim into the phone, it will immediately unlock the network search options that are normally greyed out. I click automatic select and immediately remove the sim and replace it with my AT&T one. Even though the phone complains that the sim was removed, I can click ok, then quickly push the automatic select again before it greys out. I then wait a minute or so until it fails to find a network. I then quickly click the network search option. The notable thing at this point is the only network that shows up is MARITIME. if I click on that, it registers me to AT&T. I have tested the phone and it works great. But it seems to bump me off the network at some point. I dont know if its poor reception or the ROM itself doing it. And if I restart the phone, I lose it as well. So I have to repeat the steps again to get back on AT&T. But the thing to know here is that the phone will work with domestic carriers with no problem. Its a matter of locking to AT&T and staying there. Surely one of the brilliant brains on these forums can figure out how to keep it working. I basically stumbled onto this by playing around with it.

Good job finding that. When it kicks you off of AT&T's network it did that to me when I had T-Mobile as well, so it's not just AT&T. Glad you were able to get AT&T to work on your phone tho, kudos.
So I have a Sprint Moto X that is stuck in cdma-ehrpd mode. Because of this I can't connect to LTE.
I've exhausted all of my attempts at fixing this including factory resets, APN editing and flashing SBF files using RSD and manually flashing.
I'm just wondering if any other Sprint users or Moto X users have ever experienced this or know what can be done to get my LTE back before sending it to Sprint to get fixed.
I am rooted and using Xposed (only for Gravity Box). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I haven't gotten 4g for a few months. The problem is that any fix that involves the hidden menus requires me to have my msl number which Sprint would not release.
Anyone know of any method that works to get an msl number of the moto x?
I also noticed that my APN is different than my wife's. This wouldn't be a problem but I can't seem to edit or add my own APN and have them stay.

There is a apk called like My MSL or something to that effect, and it will give you your MSL code immediately, no calling Sprint or anything, but I'm pretty sure its not freeware, so Google will help. If I remember what website I found it through (there are numerous sources lately I believe), I will try to point you in the right direction. I try to keep my phone from ever falling back on to 3G, and without the code I'd be very frustrated, lol.

I went and dug the apk out of my Google drive, and I apologize for mis-labeling it in my previous post, but it is actually called "MSL Utility", the apk is "MSL Utility_1.0.apk". So, with that being said, I believe that I probably downloaded it off 4shared or GSM Arena or some similar site that disregards software license rules etc.
So, I've recently rooted and unlocked my device and I wanted to know if I can bring it to another carrier and still get data.? I'm using the LS991 Sprint version. I also wanted to know if there are any good CDMA Workshop alternatives; it's really expensive and I'm only gonna be using on a few devices.
Dfs
So you rooted (doesn't really matter with respect to carrier support) and you unlocked it (that's what matters with respect to carrier support) - so you put in a SIM card for the carrier you want, set the APN data (use Shortcut Master if needed, there's a version specifically modded for the LS991 directly available in my post HERE - might be a good idea to read that post as well since that's what I did myself.
Worse comes to worse if you have no luck because you unlocked your LS991, consider installing the global LS991 ROM (whether it's Lollipop ZV6 or Marshmallow ZV9 or ZVA - if you install ZVB you can never go back to anything prior so be aware of that) which will work much better for other carriers than using the unlock mod so many of us have done in the past.
Hindsight being what it is, if I knew about the global ROM when I got this G4 recently I wouldn't have mucked around with all the unlocking crap and the carrier partition at all for any reason because just installing the global ROM (or modifying build.prop to allow for global unlocked operation) is way more useful and less damaging to the phone. Modifying the build.prop isn't necessarily a cakewalk but, since someone else has already done it for others and posted the global ROM(s) for Lollipop and Marshmallow (as .img files you flash using the Send_Command.exe/dd method) it's really not a big thing anymore.
If you muck up flashing an .img file you can typically just use LGUP and a TOT file to get things working again so it's relatively safe overall, but if you muck up the unlock and trash the carrier partition content the phone will end up being pretty much useless unless you have that information safely backed up someplace (I'd say multiple backups in multiple locations, to be honest).
Anyway, if you truly want the phone to be capable of working on other carriers, my suggestion is go for the global ROM but that's just my own personal opinion on the matter. I'm using tabp0le's MellowMallow ZVB global ROM on my LS991 and T-Mobile LTE works just fine for me, for the record. It did take a little work - I wrote about how I got the full phone/data working in that post with Shortcut Master - but it does work.
Thanks for the help!
One last question, how did you get other carriers to let you activate the phone? Everytime I try they ask me imei then tell me my phone won't work on their network.
Well I've had service with T-Mobile in the past (not currently but will again soon), I have a bunch of T-Mobile microSIM cards because whenever they put the SIM card activation kits on sale for $.99 or sometimes even free (rare but it happens) I usually grab 3 at a time so I have 'em around for testing purposes. T-Mobile doesn't require me to provide any info to them, and even if I go to their website right now and input my IMEI number it'll say it's not recognized, etc but it's not relevant: it works, and that's what matters.
Most carriers don't actually require you to provide the IMEI for any reason as long as you can get one of their microSIM cards (or nanoSIM with adapter) and then get service without having to contact them. T-Mobile is somewhat unique in that process I suppose. With this SIM card I have (it's never been activated) I can go to their website and sign up for service right now and it'll be active in 10 minutes or less, sometimes when I've activated service (it's prepaid so I don't necessarily keep it month to month, sometimes I choose some other service for testing) it's done before I even sign out of their website, like 30 seconds or less and wham, the phone beeps telling me service is working.
So, the advice is: get a SIM card for the phone from the carrier you're interested in and go from there, not sure what else to suggest honestly.

So, the advice is: get a SIM card for the phone from the carrier you're interested in and go from there, not sure what else to suggest honestly.

You good sir are a god among men, phone and data are working like a charm. Now I can tell sprint to go **** themselves!
glad it worked for you. MY experiences with ls991, i am using it nvmode. zv6 rooted works for me with cdma data. but data doesnt work with zv9 or zva. global rom doesnt work unless, I edit build.prop target carrier to SPR . it is open to use it as global mode. I am using it in cdma nv mode.. not with any sim..

Ruim is basically used when it comes to cdma sim card.
"Removable User Identity Module (R-UIM) is a card developed for cdmaOne/CDMA2000 ("CDMA") handsets that extends the GSM SIM card to CDMA phones and networks. To work in CDMA networks, the R-UIM contains an early version of the CSIM application."
Your is at&t 4g gsm card. [emoji4]
Check your build.prop and search for
ro.build.target_operator: OPEN
Most probably for global mode open works
For making it work on cdma nv, i have set it to SPR
You can tweak with it by changing to options, it will also change signal bar and 4g symbol like at&t
These will show a Standered international 4G data icon for 3G/HSPA+ and LTE for LTE.
ro.build.target_county: CA
ro.build.target_operator: TLS
These will show a standered international 3G data Icon for 3G/HSPA+ and 4G for LTE (Messes up settings menu pretty bad)
ro.build.target_county: SK
ro.build.target_operator: SKT
If you want the AT&T 4G and 4G LTE Icons.
ro.build.target_county: US
ro.build.target_operator: ATT

My fav cdma tools are qpst, cdma workshop, dfs, revskill and bit advance is qxdm All are freely available. I cant say which one is best hahah. Trust me for me, all of them worked at some instance when i was stuck. Revskill is great with htc finding spc. Though i used dfs mostly.
