Rom manager by clockwork - myTouch 3G Slide Themes and Apps

Everybody says this app is great but every time I try to do anything with it, it reboots my phone to a green progress bar but before it finished it switches to a picture of a phone with a red question mark on it....am I doing something wrong? I wrote the devs with no response

Have you flashed the engineering rom? You need to do that.

Oh ok....I didn't know you had to flash that for it to work thanx so much for the help...they should tell you that on the app

ROM Manager is for every device that can run clockworkmod recovery, not just the slide. The slide is the only one that can't get a recovery to stick as far as I am aware, so there's no reason for them to include a warning in an app used by tons of devices when only one of them has the issue.

True...didn't look at it that way

I have a stupid ROM Manager question... I remember trying to use a while back and hit a snag. When you open it, it first wants you to install Clockwork Recovery, and of course we cant make ours stick. When I tried this a while back, I remember it breaking my recovery and took some fiddling to fix it. Should I let it run this option, so I can then use it to manage my ROMs?

It now has a recovery for the slide and it works great. It is the only I use to get in recovery.

So to be clear, I can use the Install CWR option from ROM Manager? I cannot do anything else in ROM manager without it wanting to "install" it.

on mine it is the first option "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery", pop-up will show up and it only has the choice of "MyTouch Slide" after tapping that you are good-to-go for rebooting into recovery and flashing ROM's

Yeah I went ahead and did it. I get a lot of Superuser FCs still with it. I even hit the Fix Permissions, which says may fix FCs, and it FCs on me

that's odd I am running it on both of our phones without issue, didn't even have any issues running dumfuq's experimental dopio 960 oc kernel.

I see what happened. Cyans latest ROM comes with a different/newer SU app. When Rom Manager flashed recovery, it downgraded SU. I just grabbed the SU out of the latest CM6 ROM and pushed it to system in recovery and all is good. Running Fix Permissions now to see if it stops the FC I get on some uploader service upon each boot.

oh I forgot, unless you have already figured it out, the power button is NOT used for selecting in cwm anymore... volume still does "up" and "down", track-pad is now "select" and the back button works as "back page"
hopefully all is good.

So, Rom Manager can get you directly to Clockworkmod?
I just got a new Slide, rooted it, and immediately flashed the ENG build.
I then flashed MyFroYo6 with Rom Manager. No dice. What the hell am I doing wrong?

I dont think ive seen this before!! Please check this out and help

hey guys, i am not new to the scene but i have actually run into a big problem.
A few minutes ago i flashed a Hero rom followed by the ebi1 kernel, it booted up perfectly fine and went into installation, still no problems.
Once installation finished i learned that for some reason the home app(launcher) doesn't load, it just constantly gives an error force close when trying to go to the home.
Everything else does work.
I then decided to reflash the ROM, when booting my phone it would not go into recovery, i held the home button and it froze at rogers logo,
I tried again after a battery pull and same result, i thought uh oh, BRICK!
When i rebooted again( holding nothing down ) I learned that it apparently does boot! if i leave it alone, it does the whole buttons light up screen dims thing just before it boots, then the screen dies off and I hear a sound meaning usb connected, **(all this while it is still showing the second boot screen)**
The end button works to turn screen off and on but it it stuck at the second (MLGIN or whatever nexus style boot screen)
I nave now found a way to actually get past the boot screen, if i call the phone it will go into the dialer and I can actually use it as a phone!!, once in like this I can actually use the phone completely except for going to launcher(home), I can make calls (if someone calls me to get into the dialer), use the lockscreen, send a message (if someone sends one to me), enable usb mount.
I have a nandroid and a BART saved but like I said i cannot get into recovery.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated.
Please let me know if my post doesnt make any sense, i can try and get my thoughts out again!
EDIT I CAN get Droid explorer to work, this means i can install any apps that could help! but i dont think i could launch them
-with droid explorer i can use terminal, cant i launch stuff with that? also, when i click Bart manager it says i need to buy a license, aww
- I clicked on reboot into recovery in droid manager, the phone rebooted but it hung at the rogers logo, I really cant understand how the recovery doesn't work!
EDIT it WILL boot into fastboot mode!
Can i install an alternate launcher with droid explorer, I think that if i can do this, when i hit home it will give me the option of choosing which laucher right? i then choose the new one.
Any one know where to get a different launcher? or perhaps the launcher from this ROM so i can try and reinstall it
Because i can use droid explorer, the options are nice,
I still need help organising the above attempt, but if that fails I could also use the flash recovery image option in DE and try that.
Am i right in saying that I should first try and get a different launcher to work or should i go straight for the recovery. If the recovery doesnt wokr could I lose access to the phone booting? (thus droid explorer)
OK I would LOVE some community help here:
I think i wave 3 options
1) install any apk (namely a new launcher and get the phone to atleast function properly)
2) Re flash a recovery image
3) Flash a ROM
All of these would be done with droid explorer, i think i have listed them from least risky to most risky (if i flash ROM and that doesn't fix it i could be out of droid explorer)
Could you guys help me start up, where can i get what, my mind is racing too much!!!
ok, using droid explorer i re flashed the recovery, it now boots into recovery. i am going to reflash the hero rom as i really want to use it!

[Q] Lost Recovery Mode

I'm on a Sprint Hero. I used the universal one-click to root. Titanium Backup to restore my apps after flash. Clockwork's ROM manager for the rest.
Two days ago I decided to flash my first ROM, CM6. When I flashed I got a little carried away, flashed the ROM, gaaps, sprints vvm, the mms fix, and a stable uncapped kernel all at once. Bottom line, it wasn't running quite like I had hoped and I was running out of spare time. Flashed my nandroid backup and was good to go. Everything restored like it was before I started.
Yesterday I found some time and decided to try flasing CM6 again. This time starting slower, with just the cm6 and gapps. Then everything else as needed.
Here's the problem; I can't get to recovery mode. I've tried the "Reboot into Recovery" from the ROM manager. I've tried the power down, power up w/ home key held down. I've tried power up with volume down key then choose recovery mode. I've tried installing rom from sd (this gets me to the point that says it is sending me to recovery to finish installing).
I get three different results, and they seem to apply themselves randomly to my reboots. First, I get hung on the white HTC screen. Second, I get the white HTC screen, the phone gives a vibrate and the screen goes off. Third, I get the white HTC screen, the phone gives a vibrate, it reboots back through the HTC screen and starts up like nothing happened. For the first two, the only way to get the phone back is a battery pull.
I have rerooted with the one-click. Still no luck.
I can restore my original nandroid backup through ROM manager.
I can flash clockworkmod recovery. It is current at 2.5.0.1
Could someone please help me find my recovery mode.
Thank you.
Peace.
Have u just tried holding down power and home it takes like 20 seconds just keep holding them it should pop up and if you hold power down and volume down wen the screen pops up just hit home button and wait it should popup hope this helps good luck
Root-Hack-Mod-Always™
I have tried both. I have also tried getting to recovery through Clockwork's ROM manager.
Every time my phone tries to get into recovery mode it gets stuck. When I say it gets stuck, I mean one of three things happen. First, the phone hangs on the white HTC screen. Two, the phone gets past the HTC screen, the screen shuts off, and the phone becomes completely unresponsive (when this happens I need to pull the battery to get it back on). Three, the phone gets past the HTC screen, reboots itself and boots right up to the stock sprint ROM(it ignores my request to get to recovery mode).
This morning I tried something new, but still failed. I uninstalled Clockwork's ROM manager. Erased the clockwork folder from my SD card. Reinstalled the ROM manager. Flashed the ClockworkMod recovery. Was successful with getting a recovery, 2.5.0.1 Tried to backup my current ROM. The phone rebooted, gave me the HTC screen, then shutdown and I need to battery pull. After that I tried the Home Key recovery reboot and got the same shutdown.
Does anybody see anything that I have done wrong here? Anywhere. I just want to find my recovery mode. Is there another way to get there?
Please help.
Thanks.
Peace.
Try flashing a different recovery I recommend Darch Star RA 1.7 If you search XDA /hero cdma/ android development you will find a thread called Darch Droid 2.8 go there and on the first page u will find it along with instructions on flashing the recovery if you need help with that just respond here and if I can help I will but hopefully that helps good luck

Can someone help me get back into recovery?

Hi
I have been using Clockwork recovery for months and tonight was flashing ROM/zips as usual, and all of a sudden when I try to get into recovery my Nexus just sits on the colored X. When I pull the battery it reboots fine with the ROM I currently have installed. Then I go back into ROM manager, re-flash clockwork recovery: it says flash was successful, so then I choose to boot into recovery, and again it just sits at the blue, red, green and yellow X.
So then I tried a round-about way by going into ROM manager and choosing to restore a backup. Again, when I choose to restore backup it just boots to the colored X again and freezes there.
I've also tried the regular method of holding power button and trackball and get the same results.
Does anyone know why this might be happening? Right now I'm stuck with a ROM I was just playing with and didn't necessarily want to use permanently....I'm afraid I might be stuck with it forever now
Thanks for any help!!!
I've been searching and I should add that my bootloader is not unlocked
Try to flash your recovery manually, using the guide from my signature. Try Amon_RA's.

Well I ended up wiping all user data in fastboot and now I get nothing but an X nomatter what I do, won't boot at all.
All I can do is hold down the power button and trackball and get the page that says
bootloader
reboot
reboot bootloader
power down
the only way I'm going to get this fixed is to use my computer and I've never done it that way...I've always used ROM manager
I'll read the links but I think I'm screwed because a lot of this is over my head
Thanks for the links !
1) Try to follow "Unroot/restore" guide first, see if you can restore functionality using PASSIMG method. Once you have functional FRG33 with recovery, you can root it, replace the recovery and install custom ROM of your choice / update to FRG83G.
2) If nothing helps - consider a) replacing your phone, b) unlocking the bootloader and flashing recovery through fastboot.
Getting in over your head is sometimes a good way to expand your horizons
Hi Jack
Thanks for the help
I'll do some reading and see what I can do....got two feet of snow here so I guess I have the time
worst comes to worst I'm still under warranty.
Well I tried the instructions but nothing happens..it just sits on the screen with the androids skateboarding. I renamed the zip and moved it to my SD card but it doesn't seem to even search for it, let alone find it. Really wish I had not deleted storage. At least I had a working ROM at that point.
Which instructions did you try? Did you download FRG33, rename it to PASSIMG.ZIP (and not PASSIMG.ZIP.ZIP !), put it on the root of SD card and reboot to bootloader?

Hey Jack...
Sorry for taking so long to respond...I finally had to crash for awhile, my brain was frying.
Yes I did what you describe: downloaded FRG33, renamed it PASSIMG.ZIP(not ZIP.ZIP) moved it to SD card just like any ROM and held down volume and power button and came to the screen with the three androids. Then it just stayed there, nothing happened.
The only thing is I had to use my backup Nexus One(EDGE only on ATT model) to move it to the SD card as I don't know how to access the SD card with the device acting like this. If I connect the device to my computer while the three androids are on the screen, I hear it connect to the computer, but nothing pops up allowing me to access the SD card....
Like I said I'm a noob at this I appreciate you trying to help me here
About 3 seconds after the 3 androids skating appears, you should see some text flash up?
It does say you're in HBOOT and not FASTBOOT right? If in fastboot, pick the bootloader option and then it should find the file.

Hi Rusty
Sorry I somehow missed your post here. Yes I see some text flash up...takes a little longer than 3 seconds...maybe 8 seconds...
At first it says I'm in Fastboot, but then I press the power button and then it says HBOOT at the top.....that's when the text flashes on the screen. It flashes too fast for me to read it though....but nothing happens after the text flashes on the screen.
I'll be damned guys....I got it working! After responding to Rusty's post above, I decided to give the whole thing another try. Well I went thru the whole process of putting the file on the SD card and realized I had in fact renamed it zip.zip....it LOOKED like it was only ZIP, but when I clicked on the file while it was still on my PC, it said it was zip.zip...that's when I knew what the problem was.
My problem now is getting it re-rooted. Originally I used the Universal Androot application..the true one-click method...I just tried it again and it didn't work.
Is there a way to downgrade to a version where this app will work again?
Thanks guys you really helped me out here!!
Please read the guide in Wiki, and follow one of the zillion SuperOneClick threads that are around. It's really as simple as it gets - and if you happen to have Windows 7, it's even more simple - you won't need to install the drivers.

Okay I'm having another issue: SuperOneClick said I was rooted,I have the superuser icon in my app drawer, but ROM manager will not flash Clockwork mod recovery and Titanium Backup says I do not have root rights??
well I rebooted and now have root rights but am still getting an error when I try and flash clockwork mod: it says: "an error occurred while flashing your recovery"

You're going to think I'm a dip**** but I don't even know what busybox is?
Let's just say it's an app that the system needs Go to Market, download and install it, try again. If it doesn't work - you can try to install custom recovery manually, using another guide from Wiki. Look in "Installing Recovery" for "For locked bootloader - flash_image using Terminal" guide. If you don't know what Terminal is - download "Android Terminal" by Jack Palevich from the Market.
Use the fix problems button in Titanium Backup to install it, long story short is it lets you use a bunch of native Linux commands that as missing from Android.

[Q] No functional recovery image... now what.

Ok, so after using clockwork rom manager on my nook color and seeing how convenient it was, I thought, "hey maybe this would be good on my milestone." WRONG. I flashed the clockwork recovery (they even had an option for milestone) and when I rebooted into recovery from the software (either in rom manager or the reboot power option) it just rebooted straight into android. When I held the power and camera keys, it just took me to bootloader.
Under rom manager, there was also an option to flash the RA recovery, but that didn't seem to help (exact same behavior as clockwork recovery).
I'm currently running the CM7 mod and prior to this fiasco, I was using RA 1.7 (pretty sure). edit: RA 1.7 was my girlfriend's HTCmagic, I just remembered that I would have had some version of openrecovery on this phone.
So, I guess my question is, what are my next steps here? I'd really like to stop flying without a recovery. My only shred of an idea was to flash a stock image from rsdlite and set my milestone all the way back to stock and then reroot and re everything, but if someone has a better idea, I'd be very open to that as my plan seems like a big hassle.
A) not really the place for this post but anywa
B) you should beable to just flash the Vulnerable recovery http://android.doshaska.net/rootable then you can install a recovery from this forum thats for our phone!
Apologies, I didn't mean to step on any toes. Could a mod please recategorize this thread.

Well, the good news is, that I flashed the vulnerable recovery and I'm able to boot into recovery. The bad news is, it only lasts for a few seconds. I see the standard recovery icon and then a bar fills up and then my phone reboots into android. From what you said, I take it that there's another step in here where I take another file from the forums and then install that as well. Is that just through RSD lite then?

Ok so you need to take an open recovery for example http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1091787 and extract it to the root of your sdcard so you have a update.zip file and openrecovery folder.
Then boot into recovery and press the volume up and camera button and a menu should come up.
Then select the 'flash update.zip' and this should 'boot' you into the custom recovery, sadly because of the looked bootloader we must do this everytime we wish to boot into recovery
Okay, I have that file, or one similar, from when I originally had started using custom roms (and updated/changed them etc.).
The problem is that before, when I'd go into recovery, it would have the icon of the phone out of the box with the exclamation mark or whatever, and it would stay there indefinitely.
Now, it only stays for a few seconds before rebooting into android. A little bar appears, fills up, then reboot. Doing the volume up + camera combo only serves to expedite this process (i.e. reboots as soon as I press it).

what your doing (power + camera) is meant to put you into the bootloader mode... to get into recovery, hold 'x' on the physical keyboard and then hold the power button. This will get you into recovery. Hope this helps.

are you sure that you did in fact flash the vulnerable bootloader, and not a newer, non-vulnerable one? sounds like that.. exploit fails, system reboots. also, if you are running an original rom right now, it does check the bootloader every reboot and flashes the non-vulnerable one!

I'm a bit confused with how you're getting into Recovery mode, but the way to enter recovery is to hold Power + X, then Camera + Vol Up when you see the Motorola Logo.
I'm getting into recovery the same way I always have Power+camera then volumeup+camera. Power+DpadUp is how I've been getting into bootloader. Power+X actually yields nothing, just a regular boot.
Unless the file hosted on the site that was linked earlier in the thread is a newer, nonvulnerable recovery then, yes, I'm sure I flashed vulnerable recovery. I'm going to attempt to flash again. Just to see if maybe that's the issue.
I'm pretty sure I'm seeing it at least attempt to enter recovery, which is a step up from before (before being that it just went to bootloader). Because I'm seeing the image that displays in the recovery menu, but then it brings up a progress bar (which I never saw before) and when that fills up (in about 2.5 seconds), that's it. Reboot.
Thanks everyone, for all the help though.
EDIT: Despite RSD lite saying that the process as a success, the reflash did nothing.

Where did you get the VR sbf? android.doshaska.net/rootable ?
Yep, that's the one.
EDIT: Finally got up the guts to load the official Telus sbf into RSD lite and pull the trigger. It seems like this is probably beyond salvage now. Once again, many thanks to everyone, and if all goes well, I hope to only be in the ranks of the unrooted/unmodded for a few minutes.
EDIT the second: Okay, so flash to stock went perfectly. Everything works, including recovery, but not openrecovery. I can get to the menu to flash the .zip, but it fails the esignature check. Which I'm assuming points to Vulnerable recovery not flashing correctly or perhaps my file is corrupt, or maybe something more exotic and exciting. I flashed SHOLS_U2_03.11.0 if that's relevant.
For those interested, everything is up and functional again.
I had to first flash back to stock, then flash the vulnerable recovery located at http://modmymobile.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=28089 , then the standard, boot to recovery, blah blah blah, install a new rom.
Let this be a lesson to the rest of you; Clockwork Rom Manager does not, I repeat, does NOT seem to work on our milestones. Which is a real shame...
I realize this is a double post, but I'm just so darned jubilant to be able to update my rom again.

First time CM7...fail...try again..

mkay o i'm kind of new to android and tonight i wet my pants cause i thoughy i bricked the optimus. I wanted to install CM7 but something went horribly wrong.
After I rooted and installed ROM manager I copied CM7 to my SD and installed. After it was done the CM7 boot screen kept looping. No way the phone was doing anything more than that.
The only other thing it would do was to sho a 'waiting for update' screen. After a lot of searching I mangaged to get stock ROM back by using smartflash, praise be...
Now that I know I can rescue the phone I'd like to know what whent wrong..any clues? Did I use the wrong build of CM7? I just used the latest of the 4th of july.
I want to try again but maybe some insight would be helpful, thanks...
Did you remember to tick the wipe data box in ROM Manager?
Well it would not install from rom
Manager (installation canceled by itself and ennded up with fresh install of LG rom...) so after that i did it from recovery. cant remember if i got the option to wjpe in there...
So when i installed from ROM manager i did xheck the wipe boxes. Then started installing from SD. The installation stopped, i have seen some sort of warning exclamation but i could not read what was wrong the message disappeared too fast. I think the 'wipe' was sucssesful though because all my apps and settings for stock LG firmaware were back to factory.
Ah ha.
ROM Manager and the stock ROM don't get on too well. Boot to recovery, wipe and install from there.
Assume you are using CWM recovery? It has the option to wipe on there if you look carefully so you can wipe it manually before flashing.
I tried again and it seems GB is now running cause I can see the battery icon on a different angle but it keeps givin me LG installation error messages after boot which i may ' forrxe close' but basicly nothing happens. Did i forget to wipe somerhing or forget to do smth else?
What recovery are you using? If it's 4.0.0.5, you might want to update to the newest 4.0.0.5, as the original one I built had some problems formatting.
The error messagel all seem to refer to LG apps or services. Device wont go beyond these messages.
I know, if it's what I'm thinking, they will have been left behind during the CM install, which shouldn't happen.
Ok so what do you think i should do? thanks for the snappy replies rusty.
Fyi, behind the error messages i can see a black background. The top bar with battery indicator is present, it charging. Signal indicator is there but has no signal.
Change recovery and flash again, either to 3.2.0.0 or the newest 4.0.0.5
this is what it looks like now. When i switch off and do volume down+ power its says waiting for S/W upgrade.
First i need to re-install syock again i guess? Wont do much else..
If you're getting software upgrade, you're letting go of power to early, keep em both held.
Edit: Or use 'adb reboot recovery'
hmkay im in recovery now thanks for that. It says 3.0.2.8
Signarure check enabled
Signature check disabled
Script asserts eneabled
Im not quite sure what you want me to do now. Thanks for your patience
Oh, 3.0.2.8 shouldn't have had any problems then, annoying.
