help with sdhc - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was trying to upload a pic to facebook when it stopped at 80%. then it said damaged sd card. reformat. so I tried on the phone but it did not work. this has happened one time in the past but I was able to copy each file to my pc and reformat that way. now my pc (XP, ubuntu) won't recognize it. How can I reformat it or is it toast?

do you have a micro reader, and see if it can read that way..?

I've tried a multi-card reader and a usb hub/card reader and neither one worked

after doing another exhausting search on google I found "HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool." After downloading it and multiple failed attempts at formatting to Fat it was recommended to format to NTFS and try Fat after that works. Well, it did and now that card has been reformatted back. I'm not sure if I will use it for the phone again or just throw it in my camera. But atleast I have that option now.
Thanks for the help.

Can't format card

So my card acted up today. It's a SanDisk 16GB Class 2. It was working fine until I accidently maxed out all the space. So I started deleting stuff, but it still showed 0 bytes available. I tried inserting it into my card reader and it doesn't recognize it. Put it back in my phone and used it as a disk drive, but it won't access. Put it back in my card reader and formatted which drive it should be. Formats to 99% and then says that Windows was unable to format the card. WTF? Any suggestions?
For some reason my card is saying it's write protected. I'm unable to Google and find a way to resolve this without having an SD adapter.
Ok, downloaded HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool. It formatted through my phone, but wouldn't work with my card reader. Oh well...problem solved.

SD Card issue help needed

I formated my SD card on my mac as fat32 and now something strange has occured. It seemed to format fine, and I can add things to the card in both OS X and Windows, and Android, however now I cannot format the drive on the windows PC no matter what I try. The disk mounts in windows fine but when I right click and go to format, the SD card umounts and I get the pop-up message:
There is no disk in drive E:
Insert a disk, and then try again.
I think something weird happend when it was formated on the Mac.
My goal was to gain root access, which I've done in the past, but however the Mac disk utility formated the SD card, I cannot get the phone to recognize the DREAIMG.nbh file upon restarting the phone using the rooting method outlined in these forums.
I tryed a few different methods to format the card in windows, including diskpart, and through managment tools. The same thing happens with all methods.
edit: I also tryed formating using the format utility in in Android. It formats fine, but something is still wrong, it will not format in windows.
Any help would be much appreciated.
are you sure its a mac to pc issue? can you add files to the root of the sdcard and such on a mac
Yes, I can add files to the root of the card on the mac.
Whatever the mac's disk utility did during the format, the PC does not like.
Dude same thing happened to me
I found a work-around that. use a an sdcard reader (Usb or the one that comes with the sdcard) I formatted mine that way so I could use it.
Thank you! This worked.
no problem =)

External SD not mounting with USB attached

Just flashed to JM2 today (had issues with JP2), I have the mimocan fix applied using ext4 at about 1 gig, the rest of the 8gb micro sd is fat 32, when the card is in the phone, all the data on the card shows up no problem but when I connect the phone to my PC via usb and mount to tranfer files the external sd doesn't show up. The internal does but not external, tried clicking the actual removable disk on my computer and it says to insert a card, any help is appreciated with this, cheers lads.
Edit: Solved, paragon wasn't formatting fat32 partition properly, formatted using windows and all is well.
yeah I have same problem since jp2 and not fixed in jp3, some have it working but its 50/50, tried all the normal ways but it says write protection/no permission, no fix for it that I hear of so have to wait on jp4 I guess.
I've had this problem with prev updates and I find that if you reformat the TF card inside SD settings (on phone) it works again. Don't forget to unmount the card first
But yes, I think its a problem with Paragon

pulling battery... external SD corrupted?

I made the mistake when my phone froze today to pull out the battery, instead of waiting for an automatic reboot. Now my phone complains that my external SD card has an invalid filesystem, or is blank... when i press that notification i get the option to format the SDcard, but i just moved all my applications to my SDcard 3 days ago, which would make me lose everything.
Is there a way to recover it without losing all its content?
I've tries a micro SD cardreader for my computer, but either the cardreader is broken, or my computer doesnt recognise the card at all...

In that case NO but a format may recover the card though it could wipe all data .

And computer cant recognize the files either?
Then I'm pretty sure there's nothing to do.
so far ive found out that my laptop sees the card, but i cant access the files on it. it looks like the filesystem got corrupted or wiped or something, because looking at the properties of the card it sais: filesystem: none.
i found out about testdisk, and will try that out overnight. its a 16 GB card, so that is going to take a while.
Recuva free ware may be worth trying to recover files if card can be seen

Or you could try this: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-recover-data-from-a-corrupt-memory-card-or-usb-drive/

[Q] External SD card not recognized

Hello everybody,
I'm trying to get a new microSD card (8 GB class 10 microSD HC from Kingston) to work with my GT-I9000 (Custom ROM Mackay CM9 2014 1.7; freshly installed from stock GB). The card doesn't seem to get recognized and is not usable.
In storage settings there's an option to mount an SD card. When I press it, it says 'preparing SD card', after which nothing happens. In WRTP the card is also not recognized. Another SD card (2GB class 4), however, works flawlessly with the current setup.
When connected with my PC via a USB adapter, the 8GB card is recognized and usable without any problems.
I already repartitioned and formatted (FAT32) the card multiple times using Minitool Partition Wizard and Windows 7's formatting tool, as well as SDFormatter.
Does anybody know what might cause this problem? What else can I try to get this card to work??
Thanks in advance.
Simple Fix for this. Keep in mind that smart phones are
computers and the SD cards are physical memmory and
like hard drives, they require regular maintenance.
First take the SD cad out of the phone.
You will then need to insert it into a PC of some sort. I
had to go out and buy an adapter to insert it in the SD
slot on my laptop. You can usually find a cheap adapter
in any store that sells digital camera supplies. I found
one at Walgreens for $8 with a 2MB micro SD.
Third step (Optional). Copy all the data from the card
into a folder on the PC in order to back up your data.
Fourth Step run a scandisck on the card. In windows
Right click the drive then choose "Properties". Click the
"Tools" Tab and you will find an Error correction section.
Run the error correct and make sure you choose the
"Automatically fix file system errors". This should take
just a couple momments to run. DO NOT CHOOSE THE
BAD SECTOR OPTIONS AS THIS WILL TAKE FOREVER TO
RUN.
Once this is complete. Remove the card from your PC
insert back into the phone and boot up. You should be
all fixed.

Thank you for your reply.
I did what you told (plugged the card into my pc with an adapter and ran scandisk, which ran successfully without finding any errors), but the card is still not used by my phone.
Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the suggestion. I deleted fsck_msdos, rebooted and tried to mount the card a couple of times, but sadly the problem persists.
