[Q] Recovery image - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm currently running DarchDroid 2.7, and I'm not sure if the recovery image that I have is the one that he uses. Does that come with the ROM, or am I using the same recovery image that I used to root my phone? Many thanks in advance.

when you flash it doesnt update the recovery image. what's it say when you boot into recovery (press home and power on)? If it doesnt say RA-Darchstar 1.7 then its most likely not the one he recommends. you can dl it here. http://www.4shared.com/file/ct5xCGYb/RA-Darchstar.html
and follow these instructions.
1. Place on your SD Card. Don't put in any folders
2. Download Terminal Emulator from the market its free
3. type su then hit enter
4. then type flash_image recovery \sdcard\RA-Darchstar.img then hit enter
5. type exit, then type exit again.
6. Reboot into recovery should have a ninja tux and state RA-Darchstar 1.7

yeah most people on xda don't answer questions.

yeah sometimes they just leave jackass non-constructive comments.

I have to say this is good advice, but sometimes a search just doesn't do it.

does anyone know if Amon_Ra has completely quit making his recovery images, or did he just stop making them for the cdma hero.

did the flash_image recovery /sdcard/cm-recovery-1.2.img part then my now my phone freezes every time i hit hold home and power does this mean i cant do updates or anything anymore
Did you thoroughly read before doing this? No issues here at all
Just reflash the recovery...
A frozen recovery is really really no brick.

quickest fix, setup your system for ADB (if you haven't already). once done, copy cm-recovery-1.2.img to the root of your C:\, reboot your system to fastboot, run cmd prompt and type this:
Code:
PROMPT>fastboot flash recovery c:\cm-recovery-1.2.img
and reboot your phone
OP, would you mind re-naming this thread and not throwing the word "brick" around in such a cavalier manner?
op please read me
Ok, first you flashed the spl before you knew how to do it, so if you are truly bricked you did it not the spl, guns don't kill people, people killpeople with guns, see the metaphor?
But I think u should change the post title to: I jumped into the deep end before I learned to swim and now my phone is pooched, like somebody said don't bricked is a unrecoverable condition, and when you are flashing the spl, bootloader or recovery, you are messing with your failsafe, that you need to recover from a bad OS flash, so yes it is possible to brick your phone if you don't get a good flash, which is why all newcombers should take this story as a cautionary story, if you are new to writing flashes or just learning to "hack" htc devices, stick to OS and radio flashes only cause you always have your failsafe(bootloader or whatever u want to call it) to get things going again.
I've been "hacking"(4 lack of a better term) my phones and pda's for years, had my palm IIIx connected to the net wirelessly via a moto startac on sprints cdma in 1999 and I always read and reread everything I can find before I muck about with anything other than OS & Radio updates before I jump, look b4 u leap.
Even tho I'm guilty of flaming a bit, somebody should close this thread, if he is bricked there are threads for that already
Bhang
If you see any signs of life at all, it's not bricked
People who think they might have bricked thier phones may still be looking at this thread. If you get anything out of your phone at all, it's not bricked.
The last resort and fixall, afaik, is copy DREAIMG.nbh to your formatted to FAT32 sdcard.
Then go into bootloader mode by (from power off) holding down the camera key (until you're there) and powering up with the red power button. The nbh file should load automatically. Wait for this to finish, or you will brick your phone, likely.
One thing that's kind of confusing to newbies (anyone whos been avidly at this for less than a couple of months) is that there are three modes for your phone:
1. Bootloader (powering up with camera button held)
it runs/loads nbh files
2. Recovery (powering up with home button held)
it runs/loads update.zip files
3. The OS (just powering up)
I've only run img files from Telnet and Terminal Emulator (or the SDK adb.exe on my PC, but I don't mind the small keyboard)
If you have either Bootloader OR Recovery modes intact, you can recover the other, and the OS with either (the methods are different from each, though).
To many this will sound so insanely basic it shouldn't be posted. From what I've experienced on the WinMo fora, it will need to be posted over and over and over until someone stickies it so it can't be missed.
Please feel free to correct me on any of these points. HTH.

what i would suggest is after flashing the next command you input is: reboot
instead of manually powering it down.

Reboot into recovery?

Maybe this should be in Q&A. If so, sorry.
Anyway, is there a way to create a shortcut with a terminal emulator command for "reboot recovery?" or any other method to quickly reboot into recovery? Thanks.
There are probably several. GScript can do this. If you're using enomther's TheOfficial, his Spare Parts also does this (though not as a shortcut AFAIK).

You're right, this is not the place but I don't resist the tentation:
There's an app for that! It's name, Root Booter. Search the Market.

Yes sir, download either quick boot or reboot control widget.. those are it.. enjoy, I prefer reboot control.. it allows you to power down, wipe, reboot to recovery, boot loader and fastboot. So your pretty much covered there.
Your welcome..
i use quickboot.. and im loving the shortcuts that it comes with... saves the finger gymnastics

Reboot straight into Recovery

Is there an app or widget that's free that I can get the phone to reboot straight into recovery rather than have to hold the trackball and go into the bootloader etc?
I came across one called QuickBoot (i think it was called) and it didnt work for me
Quick Boot
If your connected to your computer: adb reboot [bootloader|recovery]
Terminal application "reboot recovery"

Make a script, better cut to that script!

He said quickboot didn't work. Really guys...
but as others have mentioned, if you have a computer, "adb reboot recovery". Or, if you have access to the terminal on your phone, "reboot recovery". (I haven't tried that last one myself)
If none of these work, another way you could do it is to hold the down volume button during startup. This puts you in hboot, which is one step closer to recovery.
Use G-Script from the market..... Very awesome app!! Can make a "reboot" script, a "reboot recovery" script.... **** you can make any god-dam script you like with G-Script... Wanna RM com.amazonmp3.apk? No problem.... G-Script!! Check it out, def one of the better free apps out there!!
Oh ya PS: You can also make "reboot bootloader" script....I mean really, this is the best option... Your not relying on an app as much as you are relying on a script..... Which "tech" you "wrote" hehehe... Can feel someone smart saying that!!
I use Quickboot, not sure why it isn't working for you but it works fine for me.
Pretty obvious guys :
You have to have Root to use Quick Boot. I would say that the OP either doesn't have root, or did not authorize Quick Boot with Superuser.
Perhaps OP is using the Desire ROM. When I had the Desire ROM on my phone Quick Boot wouldn't work but with stock it does.
desire doesn't reboot
i read somewhere that desire roms have problems with quickboot.
i tried quickboot and desire, didn't work for me either
i'm rooted. screen just goes black.
use gscript... nuff said
Root Manager has a reboot widget
yea I was on the desire rom and in my ignorance I wrote it off after going back to CM!
I'll give it a go again!
Although i'm tempted by the script side of things although, hopefully its n00b friendly!
thanks for all your comments peeps

works from a terminal session

[Q]Clockwork recovery mode

I used this rom [Stock FroYo, based on WWE 3.15.405.3, rooted]
when my telephone is powered off and I tried to boot in clockwork recovery, I was stuck in red triangle screen. How to boot my telephone in clockwork recovery mod?
tnx a lot
Edit: fakeflash is the way
Try pressing the vol up and power together. You should go into Stock recovery. If you have the update zip n your sd card and install zip from sd card then you may get the CWM recovery that came with rooting.
It should work but I cannot confirm. By which process did you root in the first place please ?
OK so you figured it out. Next time post your questions in the General section. thanks
First of all you must place the recovery update.zip to the root of your sdcard....then, when you
see the triangle must press the up volume button with the power button and then the option apply update zip from sdcard, thats it
Given the 900+ posts I have, I don't see how you can't know of Fakeflash
tnx a lot. _D

What are you talking about?

Bootloader button combos does nothing.

Been trying to do this for two days straight now and I'm going bananas...
Got a GT540 with stock 2.1, now rooted with z4.
Gone thru a shipload of tutorials on how to flash a ROM onto this, downloaded lots of files to make winxp behave and find the drivers.
Somehow these tutorials miss something and I just float in space...
I can't get the phone into bootloader mode to even start the process.
- Camerabutton (all the way down) + Power does only normal boot.
- Camerabutton (all the way down) + USB cable insertion does normal boot.
(it's not even possible to have it to stay shut when USB is connected to PC, it restarts immediately)
- Home + Power does a boot in safe mode.
- VolDown + Power does a Download mode.
Please help me get past this step.
My aim is to get CM7 on it.
you need to install a fastboot rom to install clockwork and cm7
Sent from my GT540 using XDA Premium App
You could try this (but I think you need plenty of ram free):
1) install Terminal Emulator app from Market.
2) Copy the img file for Clockworkmod Recovery to the root of your sdcard and call it "recovery.img".
3) run Terminal Emulator and type in "su" and press enter. It will request SuperUser rights - accept this.
4) next type in "flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img" and press enter
5) reboot into recovery (hold camera + press power)
6) back up your phone
It will either work or it won't but if it does you'll have recovery and from there you should be able to install a recovery image of CM7... But I've never tested it But you would have your backup if it didn't work...
Sorry it's speculative - others might have more experience.

When entering this world as a newbie, there are -so- many details folks take for granted that I simply don't understand.
What's the difference between a fastboot rom and a flashed rom?
What and why clockwork?
The russian fastboot image found here does it come in any other language as v2.00?
@fishears: I'll try that if I don't run into lack of memory, as you pointed out.

Ran into a brick wall when it came to mount the SD-card.
It was FAT, now it is FAT32 - no change.
Read something about activating adb thru debugging mode - but I must've missed something, it doesn't work.

Nope, didn't work, not even after low-level formatting.
But I had a spare SD-card, put it in and it worked right away. Seems like cm7 not accepting every sdcard-brand.
I do not know what the brands are, None are known, and no logos.
