[Q] What drivers are needed for Odin? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Please don't unnecessarily kill any more chickens.
Have you tried Android SDK usb drivers? Someone else on the forum said it works.

Thank you for the reply. But it didn't work. Said can't find "USB Gadget"

hi
i had same problem,i installed samsung pc studio package and managed to flash with odin without any problem

following tutorial in the sdk kit, I got "adp" to recognice my phone from a command prompt in USB debug mode. But when I connect in downloading mode, I get this "Gadget Serial" driver issue. Gadget Serial is not one of the drivers in any of the USB driver packages I downloaded. Anyone know where I can get this?

any answers?
i got the same issue and my phone stuck on the samsung screen restarting over and over

I have posted latest x64 drivers from samsung here on this forum. You can try to use them.

Also restart windows with enforce driver signing disabled. Try other usb ports.

Please please can someone help i was using the new 4.01 ics on samsung galaxy s. Now i cannot conect to pc. I Get an error message all the time saying Usb malfunctioned and i cant use odin to revert back or anything. I have looked everywhere tried reinstalling drivers ect but no joy

I know a while has gone by but just in case someone else stumbles on this thread with the same problem or in case you're still looking for an answer try dialing *#7284# which takes you to the PhoneUtil. Under USB section click on MODEM and then click on USB. Give it a try, it should work

there is a direct download for the nexus drivers found here : http://androiddrivers.net/samsung-android-drivers/download-nexus-s-drivers/ , also suggested in another similar post is to clean the usb port of your phone with alcohol and a fine brush(but remove battery if doing so)

Did you flash anything to it or root it?

Hi Rick. Try to re-install samsung usb drivers. during this time, take out the battery from the phone. once finished installing the drivers, put back the battery into the phone. Go into downloading mode. Fire up odin, put in the necessary firmwares + pit files. Once done, then CONNECT your phone to the usb port of your computer.
Hope it's okay.
Edit: Let's hope that it is the computer usb drivers are corrupted. Alterntively, if you still can't do it, try it on another pc.
Nope. I was rebooting it to flash XXJPC to it, but couldnt do so because it was saying that USB message and wouldnt detect it. So I went into recovery, did a factory reset, and now it wont boot.
Another computer does the same thing *tears*
*BUMP*
Lets try a different route. I will pay a generous sum of money to anyone who offers to and does manage to fix this for me?
rick, looking at this, if your usb is not recognised, it is either the pc or the phone usb port might be damaged.
if it is a hardware issue, then use the bounty to get it fix.
I was at that same point with my vibrant. After failed attempts of getting into download mode using buttons, here's what I did.
Download and install samsung usb drivers and android sdk.
Plug into the computer and use adb to get into download mode (adb reboot download).
Then flash with odin.
Doing that worked for me when nothing else would. Try it ?

I can get into download mode just fine.....my pc just doesnt recognize the usb device. tried 3 differente pc's, 2 running win7 and one running xp.
Did you install usb drivers on each of the machines?

I installed the samsung USB driver executable. and I also tried to use those drivers that it installs to manually update the "unknown USB device" in device manager, but they won't take.
Try uninstalling all drivers, then stick a MicroSD in your phone before plugging it into the usb.
Assuming you have Samsung Kies in your PC, try to upgrade it at 1.5.1.10074_45.
How long do you wait the boot?? The first boot after flash is very long, wait at least 5 minutes with flashing "S".
I did not just flash anything. My phone got really hot and laggy (as I was using it while charging it via USB port) and so I rebooted phone in an attempt to resolve the lag. when I did, it would not go past the WHITE Samsung Galaxy S I9000 screen, does not get to the flashing S screen.

if i understood you correctly, you have two separate problems:
a) your phone does not boot up
b) your phone is not recognized by any computer when plugged in
could be a coincidence, but probably is not. i'm guessing your bootloader got screwed up somehow. if it is a coincidence, it could be that your usb port on the phone is effed, or your usb cable is dead. try first using a different cable and see if your phone can be recognized by any computer. perhaps then you can go into download mode and reflash.
also, have a look at this post, might help you (although, if your usb is effed, there's not much point in trying any solution that involves your phone being connected to a computer): http://androidforums.com/780720-post3.html
EDIT: also, have your tried the obvious stuff, like pulling battery?
I ve seen many threads with the white screen problem ... it has in most cases been the drivers ... you desinstall all drivers from pc using Kies option for resinstall the drivers ... then you pull the battery off few sec (give it a min or two) then you get to download mode and you flash the beast ... dont connect your phone before launching odin or else it will not be recognized ...
for the few other people who didn't manage to fix it ... it was a hardware failure
That post you linked, is worth a try. But its for a motorola.....Where do I get my SGS bootloader to use instead?
ohh you were implying to try to use the motorola usb drivers?

I never said anything about a white screen. and I am not uneducated on flashing SGS, or using Odin. Far from it. My phone was first showing USB symbol when it wasnt plugged into USB port, then phone started running really hot while charging and got really bloated like it was overheating. So I rebooted and its now force closing at the first boot animation. I can get into download mode and recovery, but will not recognize in any of the 3 computers all running different versions of windows on them, with either of my USB cables that I tried.

[Q] prob with download mode

hello i found this forum great for mod my samsung galaxy s here i found a lot of thinks.
but here is my problem i have already install the samsung kies and android sdk, but when i trie to update my phone with kies the process run normally until it come the time that kies put the phone in download mode, there i receive a messege on the windows task bar like i have disconnected the phone and then it says that "error unknow device" and the upgrade on kies cant go on.
any help plz thanks
i have a att galaxy s rooted
windows 7 32bit
latest version of kies
First thing to try is test each of the different usb ports on your computer - if you get the same error on each port then my first instinct would be to reinstall the samsung drivers for your computer.
If you try reinstalling the drivers below is a link to the drivers that have worked the best for me.
http://www.mediafire.com/?0b45zo7o75rc5d5 - samsung captivate windows 32 bit drivers
thanks for your replay. i already have uninstall the drivers and reinstall them with no success, but i will try to test it in other usb port and report later
this is soo bad i have try both of you recomendations and still says usb device not recognize. then it says no driver was install and when i click that it says on the driver part that windows have stop the device for a error code 43.
i have search a lot and i havent find anything close to my problem can anyone else give recomendations on this or tell me if you know something similar to this happend to other users.
ps - i also try on a win xp 32 with the same result

[Q] Not recognized in Download Mode

Had I not been dumb ol' Curious George and flashed the wrong backup kernel with SGS Kernel Flasher, I would not be in this mess. The phone is stuck on a loop at the AT&T logo. I can't get into recovery, but I can get into Download mode just fine using power+volume down. I have searched the forums, and tried everything suggested and everything I can think of, and my last resort was to start a new thread. I've tried on four different computers, a Vista, an XP, and two Windows 7 machines, all USB ports, none of which have worked. I have uninstalled and reinstalled drivers. I've gotten it to where it will recognize as mass storage if I plug it in while it is looping. It even installs all Samsung/Android USB drivers. But I can't access the mass storage, it just tells me to insert a disk into drive X. And once I boot into Download mode, it's an Unknown device. And since Windows will not recognize it, Odin can't see it. So my poor Captivate's been collecting dust for at least a week now while I've been using my old phone. At this point I'm pretty desperate and any help would be appreciated.
I'll ask the dumb question: have you tried heimdall? If not, gone it a try.
You may also want to try heimdall from a Linux live usb environment.
Had the same issues with my phone. Turned out to be a bad cable got a new one and it worked first try

Sorry, forgot to mention that the cable is not the problem as I have tried a different cable with the same results. And also used my cable with a different phone and that worked perfectly.
As for Heimdall, I'll download and try it as soon as I can, but since the computer itself can't recognize the phone, won't Heimdall not be able to pick it up either?
Last resort, Think about applying the unbrickable mod or have Mobile Tech Videos JTAG it. The unbrickable mod is very cheap, and relativly easy if you have knowledge of soldering. JTAG from Mobile Tech Videos is 40$ USD, but they can get your phone back to you in as little as 5 days from the day you sent your phone out. both are good options, if you are unable to get download mode working.
Also try this if you have any luck. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1257434 (Just side load ubuntu on your windows / mac if needed)
If someone could help me as well. I have tried everything. Odin will not recognize my phone. Heimdall does work!!! I can flash anything with Heimdall. But I need Odin for the ROM I want.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1486344
I have tried everything including a "commercial" jig to boot to download mode. Still no go!!!
Ummm Why do you need Odin instead of heimdall?
Alright well I downloaded Heimdall but I can't install the drivers because the phone shows up as an Unknown Device in Zadig.
This is list that Zadig found:
Unknown Device
USB Composite Device (Composite Parent)
USB Human Interface Device (Interface 0)
USB Human Interface Device (Interface 1)
Pretty sure its usb composite device
It's the Unknown Device. And the USB Composite Parent shows up even when the phone's not connected.
Anymore suggestions? Or if I can't, anyone I can send it to?
Did you find a solution?
I've got the same problem...did you find a solution?

I know that i need to reflash rom thru odin my problem is the drivers, i tried few drivers that i found in the forum, sdk-from the cm9 post, kies and some more.
No one of these drivers can be recognized by my win 7 32 bit.
After that i took friend PC's and try on each pc different driver, nothing.
I'am dont know what can i do more then, thing i try everything.
I used I9000 with cm9 build 15.
If some one can help me to slove this problem , I was thenkfull.
p/s Sorry for my bad english
can you get into 3BR or download mode?
I can get into download mode
See if you are able to find a copy of this app "SAMSUNG USB Driver for Mobile Phones" download and install on the comuter that you will be using
Allow the app to completely run as it does take a while to install if the computer is a bit slow.
Then try odin
Also make sue that Kies is not runnning a background process (use task manager)
If you are unable to locate the app PM me and i will upload as soon as i get a chance
Did that few times in a few different pc. win7 and xp.
Nothing.
sorry out of ideas
Maybe the USB jig??
Nope
Thank you anyway. I'll keep trying solving.
Have you plugged your phone to PC before? If no that why it couldn't recognize. If yes go to buy a new phone ). Just kidding, I don't know why it was like that. Did you try another USB wire?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
On my PC i pluged before , but on other pc's i'v install the drivers before plug him.
Also try another USB wire , cable ...
For sure i know that its problem came frome the win , cuz the phone is in dm he never get breake so i dont need to use the jig even.
CM9 = Galaxy Nexus Drivers
I had cm9 + sdk but i needed die drivers via Setup.exe

newbie to GT-i9000M - can't connect to Kies

Hi to everybody!
I got used i9000M (Canadian) for my daughter (I have LG 3D so not really newbie to Android). It's in factory default state with 2.2 Android.
I tried to update system using Kies but have problem connecting my phone to PC. If I just boot phone up my Win 7 can see it (but not kies). I enable USB debug and Kies says something like "mode is not compatable". Should I untick USB debug and enabler KIES mode under Wireless?
But once I unplug it and plug back I get error 43:
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
I read and read and read... I'm ready to try odin but I don't know what exact ROM fits my SG... Also lots of stuff is connected to megaupload...
Thanks for any links in advance!
There is an option on Kies to reinstall drivers. I would suggest trying that. But above all, I would advise on rooting the phone and installing a custom ICS rom, like SlimICS. It will add tons of features and make your phone faster while conserving battery life. If you want to transfer files, just plug your phone in, and enable USB Mass Storage mode and you can just drag and drop files like you do with normal flash drives.

If you want to fix code 43, you should try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27205737&postcount=4571
IF you want to upgrade it by Odin , the Latest Gingerbread ROMS are here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881 ,choose the one for your region, all other resources that you may need can also be found at the My Android Collection link below

Thanks for reply! But here is the strange thing :
If I set USB debugging mode on the phone, my PC sees it with no problem and I see two devices in Device Manager under Portable (and they are identified as Samsung ...) But in this mode Kies doesn't connect - I get message like "unable to connect, switch phone to Kies mode ".
But once I turn debugging off, turn Kies mode on and connect the phone, my PC sees only one device and it's in USB group (in Device Manager). And now I get error 43...
So I think it's not the physical connector (otherwise I would not be able to connect at all) but rather old system - 2.2
I'll try to update it with Odin and let you guys know the result.

You should instal SAMSUNG USB Drivers for Mobile Phones from here
Also try different usb port or computer. Make sure to kill all Kies processes when you using Odin.
Thanks for help - still no luck
Guys, thanks for help! I really appreciate it!
I installed SlimICS - phone running nice. But my both computers (XP and Win7) give me errors...
Funny part is - Odin works perfectly and I can see my phone in Device Manager with no problem!
Anyway, it's not REALLY big problem, rather inconvenience.
I don't know if it matters, but I also noticed that my AC charger for LG doesn't charge i9000. Weird? Do they have different pinout?
Thanks again.
It's me again
Just for fun connected the phone to old Toshiba laptop at work with win XP, without installing any Samsung drivers and ... And Toshiba recognized phone and showed me two drives - internal and SD!!!
My home computers still giving me grief... Both systems (xp and wib7) stubbornly don't want to install drivers! They put some Microsoft driver from 2007...
I'll keep fighting (installed Kies several times, just drivers - couple versions...)
