[Q] Possible to flash JL2 Modem?

Hi, I was just wondering if I could flash a JL2 modem over Darky's rom. I'd like to do this to get my 850 mhz band back assuming of course the modem controls this. Hopefully I didn't just sound like a dolt...
Anyway if I flashed the modem would it do what I intended, or just brick my phone?
Thank you
Yes you can flash the modem alone. Just go into recovery mode and apply the modem zip file.
Sure you can. i changed modems back and forth while on darky. the rom is not a restriction. And you'll have back 850mhz if the modem supports it.
good luck.
If you need the JL2 modem file, you can get it here.

[Q] I9000m Running GINGERBREAD???

Hi, the Gingerbread fever has started and everyone's bragging about it. I am on a i9000m and as some of you may have discovered this model is kind of cranky and does not flash everything like the i9000.
So could someone tell me if they have flashed their i9000m with a JVK successfully?
And if yes, have you tried reverting to stock?
Thanks!
And if you say yes...what steps did you follow to get to GB?
to get to froyo I meant...
I dont see a problem here, I have a i9000m and mine is not cranky. If my partitions get messed or something gowes wrong I usually just flash EZBASE on mine following his instructions, then I flash the JL2 found on Samfirmware without repartition checked to get back to original state.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991792
I tried JVK but I seem to have lost the WCDMA 850 or WCDMA 1900 which ever one is GSM. I used odin and UGjl2 and put it in PDA and reflashed back to Froyo until I can get just the jl2 modem or the BMC CSC files. Don't know exactly which one I need to reenable the GSM.
Gingebread is awesome and for some reason the tv screen off animation is a must have.
I just flashed to JVK today using the firmware from samfirmware (european version) and it works fine, no issues here. Bell Galaxy S Vibrant.
Thanks Guys...So, when I flash GB with its bootloaders and then when I try to flash back to Froyo (Usually do it with JPC and then JL2) the bootloaders shouldn't be a problem???

I forgot exactly what the menus say but,
can you go to "wireless and network" then mobile networks. Then there is a a place for settings that let's you pick gsm/wcdma or GSM or Wcdma.
Select GSM only and see if your phone goes to No Service.
Thanks
Yeah it goes to no service in GSM only mode, no calls or data.

I would be nervous about changing the boot loader from UGJL2. This is where the I9000M internal SD corruption fixes were done from the reading I have done.

Then how do you install GB. I don't think installing without bootloaders is good too!!! I was thinking if I flash to GB and to get back to froyo if I use a three file ROM like JPC.... I will be fine, no?

Have you tried reverting to stock froyo???
I reverted to stock Froyo then used odin and only installed the PDA file.
CF-Root and JVK screenoff/batt.
Looks like I have both wcdma 850 and wcdma 1900 now.

So you are using jvk with the jl2 modem? Any incompatibility issues you've noticed so far? Thanks!

That's correct. So far no problems. The only strange thing was after the flash when rebooting it stopped at the recovery screen showing an error finding CSC information, can't remember exactly. I just selected reboot and all was good. I now have a KOR product code. If I was to flash again I think i'd flash the CSC file too.
I'd like to know if anyone has flashed all 3 files and has both wcdma 850/1900 working.
I flashed JVK the other day and so far so good. I first tried to install JVK without bootloaders but the phone would not boot after, just hung at the first Samsung screen. I flashed the bootloaders version (hesitantly since I am now on my 3rd phone), and it worked fine. Obviously I lost my 850mhz band, but got it back after flashing the JL2 modem. Knock on wood, but things are working great. I have since flashed a couple different kernel's. Used Clockwork Mod to get the CRT TV Off hack working.
I occassionaly run into a force close, but I found the same on the different versions of Froyo I have been running.
In case you are wondering. I flashed using Odin, no additional checkboxes were checked (no pit, no partition, no bootloader). After flashing I grabbed the kernel of choice and flashed it with same Odin settings. I did get error's moving from Speedmod to Ultimate Kernel. I ended up having to reflash the Ginger ROM to fix, then proceeded to install the Ultimate Kernel.
With respect to the bootloader issue for Bell devices. I do have concerns about flashing the new bootloaders, but am hoping that the steps taken to correct the Froyo JK4 debacle have been included in the new bootloader. Otherwise I may be in for another headache in a few weeks. I havent personally tried it, but going back to JL2 shouldnt be a problem. Might just have to check off the bootloader option in Odin to get back on the Bell JL2 bootloader, but not too sure.
Good luck.

Maybe you could try what is stated in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=997950
basicaly, you flash those modem:
Jl2 => JPD => (JQ1 was the ending there, but you should try to flash the modem from JVK)
By "tick off" you mean check it or no? Lol...
If you mean check it... I don't think its a good option. Rather why not just flash a three file ROM to get back!!
I'm running cm7 now and haven't tried going back to stock. I will give it a shot soon. The ROM is awesome but its the batt that bothers me!
Not sure if you were referring to my post but I did not tick off or check off any additional boxes when using odin. only the default boxes had a check. Repartition and Bootloaders were un-checked and I did not have to use a pit file.
In addition my modem gets 850mhz just by flashing back the JL2 modem file through Odin.
Btw, Darky RC3 ROM installed as expected. and by default ran the voodoo lagfix.
Phone is smoking fast....

[Q] Help! re: Flashing a Modem (Bell user) will GPS work ?

Ok so here's the deal.
I flashed JVK 2.3 (Darky's Rom v10 rc6 DarkyCore Kernel 2.2) and so the baseband is JVK i'm assuming
I'm having issues regarding the 850 band.
Q: what's the best modem for Bell users ?
Q: am I able to JUST flash a modem ? if so, how ? (through ODIN or CWM?)
Q: Do I just put the modem file into the modem thing in odin and hit flash? can I flash a Froyo 2.2 (JL2) modem onto my Gingerbread (2.3) ROM ? If not, what's the best Modem to use ?
I'm also having issues regarding downloading MP3's -- they all fail like those mp3 finder apps. But I can preview. WTF?
also my GPS isn't working - does a modem fix this ?

I am running KC1 - I have tried JL2, JL2 with JM9 GPS fix, JK4 but KC1 is the best to date and gives me best GPS performance to date. If you use non "native Bell" modem ie new Gingerbread modems there are steps to take to ensure 850MHz still works. You will need to review this forum I think. I have not tried such modems to date. You can use Froyo or GingerBread modems - no issue.

Yes, CWM is best. I have many modems in the SDCARD root, quick and easy to change.

Use CWM - get the modem files from Perka's File stash - look for the 850MHz section

Se above. But you should search this forum under GPS. If GPS has never worked you may have to do some hardware work. ie the contact from the PCB to the GPS antenna is pretty crappy and you may have to disassemble the SGS, stretch the contact spring a bit then re-assemble.

If using Odin(Definitely easier to use CWM as Jim said) you put the file(make sure it is for odin and not CWM) into the "Phone" section. And if on Gingerbread you're probably using CWM3 so if flashing it via CWM make sure it's a CWM3 version of the modem zip

[Q] KG3 and JVR question.

I have an I9000M from Bell (Running on Telus) unlocked but not rooted.
I have had non-existent GPS since Kies updated me to KG3. I tried a couple of things but nothing helps.
For the hell of it, I flashed JVR (stock) that I got from samfirmware.com. The GPS was almost instant, showing 9 sats in about 10 seconds.
There is a Swisscom screen that appears when booting, so obviously this ROM is the Swiss version. Is there a problem with me using this Swiss stock ROM on Telus?
Can I go back to KG3 and still flsah something from JVR to get the same great GPS performance?
I went back to KG3 and flashed the JVR modem without any luck.
Is there a combination I can do ?
Thanks,
Ian

If the Swiss JVR is working for you then use that only issue you may have is some Market apps not being available to you CSC specific ones mainly, if you do run into that problem then you can always try Market enabler or Root Toolbox
I havent been on a Bell ROM since I bought the phone and never had issues with running EU firmwares
Also it seems weird that you being on KG3 with the JVR modem doesnt work, you could try just for ****s and giggles JVR with the KG3 CSC and see if that does anything, if it doesnt one other option would be to use KG3 with the KC1 modem, just do a search on here for CWM modems

Thanks for this. Since the Bell ROM's never did much for me (Or the phone) I have wondered about using EU ROMs (or others) for a long while. I probably will try JVR for a bit and see how it works.
Many Thanks,

you can flash jvr (pda) with kg3 (modem) and kg3 (csc) that way you get the gps, the 850 band and the correct csc stuff
If I have KG3 already installed, (All 3 portions), will just installing the JVR PDA portion work keeping the KG3 modem and KG3 CSC intact?
Or do I have to do it the other way around?

No prob, if you dont like the standard Bell ROM, you could always try out different custom ROMs too, GB and CM ones

That should work, if you experience any problems like a boot loop (unlikely)
Just do as stated above by shedden, flash JVR PDA, KG3 modem and CSC
FYI if you do NOT use Bell's CSC it WON'T re-install the bell bloatware

I don't really care about Bell's Bloatware.. my whole thing is being able to download from the market as I usually did.
For instance.. When I tried JVR before KG3 was out, I couldn't download "Bell Self Serve" from the market, says it wasn't available.
I wonder if those of you who have done the JVR PDA / KG3 Modem / KG3 CSC Can actually download that piece of software, or will it still not allow you to.

[Q] Data connection lost.

Hey folks, has anyone here experience any issue with data connection after flashing a modem?
I am on AT&T / KK1 / LA4 Modem right now. The phone was fine, until I flashed the LA4 modem. My data connection will disconnect itself once in a while, and it wouldn't come back up unless I switch on and off the flight mode. I tried to set to phone to WCDMA only as some suggested in the S2 forum, but the problem still there. And flash to other modems doesn't help either
Could it be possible I break some files during flash? I was using Speed Mod kernel, and switched back to CF-Root.
Thank you very much in advance~
Maybe an incompatibility between your base rom and the LA4 modem broke up some parameters. Did you try to flash the stock modem according to your rom ? Wipe cache and dalvik ? Re-enter your apn ?
Sadly... i didnt mark down the stock modem.. the rom is zskk1 . I did both wipe before installing modem all the time. Tried sone other modem like la3 etc... not helping guess i will try to flash it to stock and see if it helps..
Thx for the suggeation tho

You can grab it from there http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1344759
