Rooting, ROM choice and some silly Q - Click Android Development

Hey dudes, there r many topics like what am i searching for, but i haven't find what i need so my Q's:
Which rom to choose, i want sense ui, but maybe some folder system in that all programs menu that slides up, or what it is and i would also love app2sd, but except those 2 things i want smthing like original rom. And will rooting speed up my tattoo?
My last Q: is there any 2.x rom fully working?
Thanks for answers.

modaco rom : app2sd and senseUI
fyodor 0.5.3.1 : app2sd and senseUI
fyodor 0.6.x implements bluetooth and fyodor 0.7.2a is a working froyo rom
camera is still a problem for 2.1 and 2.2 roms
ikxdf rom is a 2.1 rom full working apart for the camera...
there are other roms like HCDR , kilijacken, SP and so on but I've not spent so much time on trying them so I can't say anything about

I hate to advertise but my ROM (HCDR.ROM) contains Sense UI and app2sd and it's fast. I also update it more frequently than MoDaCo and fyodor to fix problems

Unfortunately not as there is no source to compile and to implement bluetooth, it needs to be done when compiling source :/

So i'll try that hcdr, but i'll need some tutorial how to root and put rom into my phone. And what about that all apps screen where they r in alphabetic order, what to do with that "problem" also where can i download newest version of your rom

Come on, you can search the bloody forums a bit -.- There are hundreds of tutorials about how to root (it's just a one-click process) and flash a custom ROM.
And I don't understand your "problem" about alphabetical order or what.
Also, this is the wrong section of the forum. The mod should move the topic.

That screen which comes up when u click little arrow in the left corner of screen and i want smthing like folders such as games, gps, ... got it?

New to HERO. Need a ROM

Hey gang,
I just bought a used HERO for my mother and would like to root it and load a custom rom. I will follow this guide to root it : Step By Step Way to root Using Flashrec(Updated 4/5)
I need some advice on a good clean rom though.
Below are my 'wanted features' in a rom.
Android 2.1
HTC Sense
stable (no need for constant reboots)
App2SD
good battery life
NOT overclocked
NOT themed (she just wants what she sees in the commercials. Stock look and colors)
keyboard with voice input (she sucks at typing and just wants to "talk to text")
LWP (optional but she probably won't use)
I looked at the rom area... and got lost with all of the choices.
She will never change a single setting once it is configured for her.
she just wants an "Android".
Thnx!
Everything except that stupid Blue Echo Rom, that thing is horrible

Hi PapaSmurf
I don't follow you...
Please link me to a ROM that fits her needs (if that exists)
Try nfinitiefx45 stock 2.1 deodexed or damage control 2.09.01
Sorry I can't link from the xda app.
Also, if the phone already has 2.1 on it, there is a new rooting method. If it has 1.5, flashrec should work fine.

Sooo, why not keep it bone stock since otherwise you'll void her warranty for nothing?

I want Apps2SD so she doesn't run out of room so fast. I am sure she will add apps and not clean up after herself.

+1 for nfinitefx45's stock ROM. but get the odex version since you won't be using themes
Fresh is also a good option with slight visual tweaks (uses HTC Espresso launcher + vanilla lock screen)
of the 2 i'd guess the nfinitefx ROM is more stable since it's closer to stock, but I honestly haven't tried fresh.

Lmao cold bro just cold. That's OK I prefer my red dawn anyways. Lol
My sig says it all....
(although DD is on a new version now... and does not have sense, but with a few simple flashes, who needs it?)
(PS, LWP sux, will not work on most roms (ie, not sticking on standby), and a batt drain, and slows sys down. dont bother.)
(PPS, after re-reading your OP, I am wondering why you are looking for a custom rom at all? b-sides the lwp thang, stock has all that, no theme, stable. root is good for a few extra things and I recommend it, but perhaps use a stock rom for stability and consistency....?)

ah yes, unless you go for a cyan rom, or some other 2.2 build, which I dont recommend personally, yet.
and make sure you have a class 6 card at least for a2sd...
I think you just want another Hero to play with lol. If you really want a custom rom, the odex version of Nfinite's stock rom has gobs of internal memory and is snappier than any deodexed rom.

Lmao um a2sd can be used on any class SD card. U need a class 4 card if u want to move dalvik cache over but even still it makes the phone unstable.
Go with odexed version of nifinite stock rom. It has a2sd plus is fast and what ur looking for
wouldnt fresh be good for him to flash?
sounds like what he needs

well, I have been told by countless ppl here that anything less than a C6 "does not work well", frankly not knowing what that exactly means, but apparently causes instability/data corruption? whateva.
guess you would know, right?
dont use it, dont care. just trying to be helpful.
+1 for odexed version of nifinite stock rom. i think that wold be perfect, and easiest to "suport" if needed.
Thank you all for the help!
Here is what I did.
Rooted using this 2.1 guide:
[GUIDE] How to Root Sprint 2.1 Release for CDMA Hero
Flashed the following ROM:
[ROM] Sprint 2.27.651.6 STOCK Deoxed w/A2SD 2.7.5_pf4a |7/31/2010|
(i have not tried JIT just yet...)
All seems perfect! I believe my Ma will love this. Who knows... maybe Pop will want one too =)
Thnx again!
~Syn
I would suggest leaving jit alone for now, it is far too unstable in my experience.

What should I do?

I want to develope my own kernels and roms but I don't know the road to take to get there. I'm working in some new things (editing and creating system files to boost performance, etc) but What and where should I start learning to be able to make my own roms and kernels for the hero community?
Also which is better liquids 2.1sense rom or nfinites stock 2.2 rom? Pros and cons thank you
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Well thats gonna be a matter of opinion.Liquids are optimized and most of the bloat and google stuff removed. Nfinite's not optimized, has senseand sprint apps. Both have odex and deodex versions. I prefer both odex versions of the .2 roms not big on theming ,also the odex ver. boot faster.Deca's kernels are compatable with all.If anyone can add anything that I missed, jump in get your feet wet and add to my observations based

I think what a lot of guys do is take a rom that's already made, strip it down, and then reassemble it according to how they want
That's essentially what liquid did. So I would suggest to learn the layout and how stuff is put together you do that for your first time.
I'm no dev tho, and really have no idea how to do that kind of detailed stuff. Its just what I've seen others here do and be successful and its what I would do if I could. Good luck.

[REQUEST] Mod for the first time

Hi, i have DHD and this is my first request!....after a OTA's upgrade on gingerbread, i downgrade my device with this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003 and i've 2.2.
Now what i've to do? i need a rom stable and fast, simple and without many effects, but essential, that allows me to have a long battery usage. I would also increase the wifi reception of the DHD...
What do you recommend me to install and wich guides to follow?
Thanks but I'm really inexperienced!
The most common answer: Read the different ROM threads and try some.
But my advice to your requirements is to try mike1986's Gingerbread release.
Stable, Up2date, ready for daily use..
You will find the thread on your own ;-)
ok very thanks, but i'm a new by....and this world is too big and new for me!...i don't know what to looking for, and where....
did you suggest to me mike1986's Gingerbread release....there are other ones?
and radio? s-off?....what are?
Well bro let me tell.few things...as u r new
1. The most stable rom u can hv isby coredroid v 6.3 and its preety sleek andwith htc sense.
2. No matter what dt play with anythng flashing radio etc...
3. Pref use stock kernel...and the rom I suggested is pure on stock resources so...easy ...quick and easy...
Let me know ifi can b of any more help

Thanks. I cant get it to work though.
Flashed the lockscreen and weather app with CWM. Killed my phone. Just startet looping at the "HTC quietly brilliant" screen.
No problem to fix and go back off course but still...
Can anyone tell me how to get it to work?
I tried flashing CoreDroid. It looks very nice and have many of the things i want. But i want it in the stock ROM.
Anyone can give my a kind of idiot guide to emplement some 3.0 stuff in my IS?
Me too, I'm new to customising Android. I have done iphones and psp in the past but the information is not clear on this topic and seems to be all over the place and spread accross many topics.
I currenty have flashed the standard virgin Rom to debrand my IS and I have made it s-off and its now rooted with clockwork mod recovery installed. I would like to install some Denver 3 stuff to the standard Rom but being a noob I'm reluctant to try with out a better understanding.
Could someone please give us noobs a straight forward guide in doing this.
Cheers

why don't you try the Virtuous Unity 1.25.0 Sense 3.0 based on Pyramid?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122805
It works very well for people who like sense!
Yeah just downloaded it and about to give it a shot. I hope I dont screw up my phone. Never done this before.
I just figured it would be easier to add the stuff to an existing rom rather than flash a complete custom one.
Cheers
Pat
I personaly don't like the Sense 3.0 to much animation which gets kind of boaring after some time and sucks performance and battery!
Just my oppinion
well, with a Nabdroid Backup you should ot be worried to try a new ROM as you can always go back!
I tried the first relase of the Cyanogen ROM and that's the one for me so far.
I already liked the stock ROM on the Nexus S - but not the device itself.
So the Cyanogen ist very close - but better!
Is it easy to do? the instructions seem simple enough. I have made a back up of my existing rom, so if something goes wrong I can re flash my original rom and be back to square 1 correct.
Correct - it is a full image.
You go back exactly to the point where you created the recovery.
I love this feature - it makes it possible to try out a different ROM without loosing all the work you did on the ROM.
Last thing before I do it. It says to do a full wipe? Is this done in the recovery menu? do I do wipe data/factory reset as well as wipe cache partition?
Or is this a different thing all together?
Cheers
PAt
A wipe data/factory reset is sufficient. People will say do it three times, but you only have to do it once.

I was thinking, Apparently the incredible s comes with all of Australias maps pre installed. Now that I have flashed this rom, would I have lost these and if so is there a way to get these onto my system
Cheers

Im really just after the lock screen and the weather widget. The other stuff imnot fussed about.
The resolution on the unity rom is a bit funny. It all functions great tho.
I tried the android revolution HD and that worked except for the market wouldnt download.
Is there a way to just flash the lock screen and widgets to a stock un modified virgin au ROM?
Cheers
Pat
Would HIGHLY recommend this ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1088498
There's nothing different to the Stock Rom apart from the fact it runs alot more smoothly.
You then install this:-
•HTC Sense 3.0 "All in 1" (version 0.3) for Android Revolution HD 1.0.x
And voila - Sense 3.0
Thats the one I had and the market didnt work, formated and flashed it 3 times.
hello guys! im also a newbie here(esp in android) but i also want to S-off my incredible S, i know that there are already several topics regarding s-off but honestly i dont know how to perfom it and im really afraid to brick my phone, can you please help me guys! any help will be greatly appreciated! thanks : )

[Q] Sense 3 rom with old lockscreen?

Hey there.
Was wondering if there is a 2.3.5 Rom around with Sense 3 BUT with the option of having the old Sense 2.1 lock screen. I have found some workarounds on other forums but they all have drawbacks like no caller ID or call answer functionality unless the phone is unlocked first . My phone is S-off and rooted and a close-to-stock Rom would be a plus.
Any recommendations or suggestions would be appreciated.
P.s. I have tried Widgetlocker and it doesn't cut it.
Try to instal custom rom. Look in development section, there are several 2.1 sense roms w/ features of 3.0 sense
BTW, widgetlocker is not the only lockscreen app. Try MiLocker for example
