Hero Goes into sleep mode and does not wake up!!!
Has anyone had this issue, it has happened to all 3 Hero's that Sprint has replaced, out of no where it goes into sleep mode, does not matter what button I hit it does not wake back up, I have to actually take the battery out and replace it and then turn the phone back on to get it back. Is there something that is causing this issue if anyone else has had this happen, is there a solution to wake it up without having to take the battery out, it does not happen often, but at least once or twice a week.
I wonder if it could be an app causing this issue, it did it again today, the screen is asleep and when I try to wake it up, I do everything and nothing works, sometimes if I leave it alone for 10 to 15 minutes then it finally wakes up on it's own, or if I don't want to wait then I have to take the battery out to reboot it, that is the only way to get it back, and I am not doing another factory reset. I am not rooted and do not intend to root at the moment
This is driving me crazy please help!!!!!

Well dude, its kind of hard when you don't give us any info (and your font is hard to read...)
What ROM?
What apps do you have installed?
What are you doing right before you turn it off?
I am on stock 2.1 with the .6 update, apps installed are, Delete old messages, Launcher Pro which I am using as default now, Handcent, Juice defender, Quick settings, COL reminder, Dolphin HD, You Mail, Fancy Widget, Sense analog clock not using this right now, home switcher, Uninstaller, Google maps, Viz battery, Google voice, Barcode scanner, Opera mini, Astro file, PDA net which have not used yet, Free caddie, Color notepad, How far am I
I do not turn it off, out of no where it goes into sleep mode and I cannot wake it up, no mater what keys I press, if I take the battery out and replace then I can reboot it back, or if I leave the phone alone for about 15 to 20 minutes then all of a sudden it will wake back up. Anything else needed let me know!!

Could be
Launcher Pro
Juice Defender
COL Reminder
Viz Battery
all those sound like they might run when the screen is turned off.
Have you tried doing a reformat and starting over?
Yes I have, have reset many times, like mention a few other of my friends also have the same issue, this is also my 3rd phone from Sprint and they have all done this one time or another, as for LP, Viz battery, and juice defender I recently installed and did it before that, and COL I have not used in a while

I use launcher pro and juice defender with no problems, so you might want to start with the other apps.

You haven't hard reset it if you're still having the problem.
I have hard reset it 3 times now and everything works fine for about a day or two and then all of a sudden out of no where it goes into dark sleep mode as I call it, now remember it does not happen everyday, could happen once or twice a week and then not happen for 2 weeks straight after that there is no pattern to it. These are the 2 methods I have used list below.
Menu Path Method:
1. From the Home screen, press the Menu Button and select Settings.
2. Select Security.
3. Select Factory data reset.
4. Select Reset phone.
5. Select Erase everything.
6. The device will dump all of the data and reload.
Key Stroke Method
1. Power the device OFF.
2. Press and hold the HOME and Back Arrow buttons. While holding these buttons, press the End Call button once.
Release the Home and Back Arrow buttons and press the Trackball to execute the Hard Reset.
3. The device will reboot once the process is complete.

OK back to the drawing board, it is not the Blue Tooth as I had BT turned off for 2 days now and it just went to sleep again. I will try another program to deactivate until I find the damn culprit
OK my next step is I have turned auto polling off for the YouMail app,and have also set the downloads to the SD card instead of internal memory, I will still know there is a message as it sends me a text anyways, fingers crossed, any other suggestions are welcomed!!!!!

Hello all,
I just got my AT&T Tilt and love it so far, except for one major annoyance. When I press the power button, the device will turn the screen back on after a few seconds to a few minutes. The problem is when it's in my pocket, it can accidentally call people. My 8125 and 8525 did not experience this issue.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Button lock
It sounds as though the phone isn't set to lock all buttons except the power button when it is in standby. This happened to me last time I re-flashed my Wizard, and I couldn't figure out for ages why my battery was draining so quickly as well!
Settings > Buttons > Lock
Hmm, not seeing any option under Buttons or Lock. I do remember this setting from WM5. It does appear, however, that the buttons are not turning the phone on, it's just waking up even if I leave it on a desk.
You can add lock to the home screen
first press and hold the hang-up button so that it locks. Then just push the power button once. This puts it in standby.
There is a idle timeout for going on standby mode, but I can't find a setting to auto-lock.

Are you paired to a Bluetooth device? I see similar behavior in my 8525 when in my car - the BT car kit does stuff which "wakes" the 8525

I get this behavior when I have Google Maps running. It will even cycle the screen on and off a couple times.
nope and nope. just sitting on the today screen.

However, my girlfriend whom I also bought a Tilt for, her's doesn't do it.
We've installed all the same software too, so I'm a little puzzled.

Hmmm.. yeah, umm my key lock is already set to lock all buttons except power.
The problem isn't with when you press a button it comes on. The problem is the phone turns on by itself, sitting on a table, nothing being pressed, no new email, no new sms, just lights up and that's it.

Any number of applications might be starting the device, from weather apps to calendar, diary, time sync etc etc. For example, HTCs weather app will do it depending on how often you have it set to another example I came across from someone was TREO ALERTS that contains a script "refresh.mscr" and it was set up refresh time 30 seconds (this was turning his TyTn II on by itself).
Mike
hard reset and try again.
i'm betting that none of these suggestions were helpful (except the one about some application generating a wakeup event without any other visual notifications).
i was having the same problem, but i just tried to narrow down which running program was causing the events. it's one of:
* wireless manager
* messaging
* IM
my guess is IM; i'm going to test that out in a second.
well, it's none of the above. still seems to wake up randomly anywhere from 15 seconds to several minutes.
seems to happen more frequently when it's just been turned off.
Even if you were to find what was turing the phone back on, this can still be a problem just from normal use... obviously, you WANT the phone to turn on for things like a call coming in. The solution for people like us who stick our phones in our pockets is to "lock" the phone. But for whatever reason, the Tilt doesn't lock the phone while holding down the end key. That means the only convenient way to lock it is to keep the lock function on the today screen, wasting space. Hopefully someone can find a way to allow the end key to lock the device on the Tilt just like the unbranded device.

i'm fine with using the lock function, but it still turns on randomly, using battery, and eventually unnecessarily yellowing the screen from backlight aging. my next approach is to check out the notification queue, using a notification cleaner app.
So i am having a similar problem. When i press the power button, the phone's screen turns off but when the keyboard slides, it turns back on... is there a way to make it so the keyboard sliding does not turn on the device? I think the keyboard slides around a little when in my pocket and i hate pushing 3 buttons to unlock my phone... thanks
I was having the same problem.
This is an issue with the ATT rom. Flash over HTC rom and you will be all set.
I have been having the same problem as well. I just installed this DeviceLock program:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=305402
If you enable the "Lock on Wake" option, the device will be locked when it wakes up, so the backlight stays off and you won't call anyone by accidentally hitting buttons.
Also, I ran across this related thread you might want to check out (basically talking about the same thing, but for the TyTn II):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=341419
Tried Forum/Google search for this and too many results.
Situation: My noob friend buys a refurbished AT&T Tilt after my praises and he reports that the screen randomly wakes up when the unit is off without any action on his part. What could be the common causes? My Tilt doesn't do this even after Hard-SPL, SIM unlock, and third party apps. He has none of this so far, just the stock ROM. Should I tell him to get a replacement? Do refurbished models have this problem?
the screen should turn on after you press the power button. press it again and the screen turns off. hold it and it wil shut down/power off. i thought that was normal -_-
isnt that the whole point?? u press the power button to wake it up??
I am LMAO at the responses so far. He is pressing the power button to turn it off. After it turns off, it will wake up randomly without any action on his part. I will edit the thread title to be more clear.

Thanks. I don't know if that is what is happening to him, but I will direct him to that thread.
The screen "wakes up" when ever an alarm goes off or you receive a message. Can you confirm that nothing is happening? i.e.:
1. it did not auto-connect to check for messages.
2. your friend did not receive a text message
3. no alarms went off
???

I have the same problem on my stock tilt any solutions anyone? I have done numerous hard resets and that seems to the solve the problem for a couple months then it returns.
could be battery check from sprite backup
Sprite backup has an auto backup when it detects low battery. To test for low battery it periodically turns the device on - if you have sprite backup installed this could explain it.
somthin that was happening to mine for a bit was when i logged on to AIM for a while, it started doing that.... then ever since, even if app is completely closed out, it kept doing it!! it would randomly light up for no freakin reason (no auto login, no apps running) jus light up, then go dim???.... tried everything, eventually got new ROM and hasnt done it since. see if he has used the IM app, that was the problem for me...
there could be so many reasons why it would wake. Just the simple slide of the screen will wake it up. Theres a registry tweak to turn it off. There's also power options your friend can play around with.
I've seen a few posts talking about whether the power button problem is a hardware or software issue. My N1 got a little wet (warranty now void) and I had to reinstall CM 5.8 to get it working again. Since then the power button has gradually failed completely. I'm wondering if upgrading the Rom will fix the power button but booting into recovery is tough.
Thoughts or suggestions anyone?

I had the same issue with my N1, ended up having to send the phone to HTC for repair, took two weeks to get it back.
I can't be without the phone for two weeks, so that option means effectively replacing the N1 with something else....
Booting into recovery is as easy as connecting phone to PC and writing "adb reboot recovery" (after you have the SDK tools downloaded, of course).
I probably should try upgrading to CM6. Also a used N1 on eBay is about $350, repair is $200 and my N1 even with a broken power button is worth $200. So now I'm thinking what can I get to replace the N1 and there really isn't anything out yet.
Anyone know how to turn the screen off without the power button other than waiting 15 seconds. Or how to launch the lock screen? Is there a way to use something like AnyCut to launch the lock screen? I can live with a broken power button if I can turn the screen off.
Trackball Wake/Lock is a utilty which functions the same as the power button - except its through the track ball instead. You can find it in most ROMS or you can install it yourself through Recovery.
Thanks! I have Track Ball Wake with CM6, I didn't know it could lock and don't see that in settings. Is it a different version?

HTC will send you one with a $529 deposit and you can send yours back when you get the new one. I did it. Whole thing should have taken 4 days, max. But, I am overseas and had to do it through my Dad stateside. It took a week through Military mail to get here and about the same back. Like three weeks total and I never got charged. The authorization only lasted 24 hrs. I just kept in touch with HTC.

Thanks alot for this! Been looking for such an app for months.
I have the same issue like you, in my case I bought the pay apps Lock 2.0, Lockbot Pro and WidgetLocker Lockscreen because the Lockscreen Widget app some times not response and I can't wakeup my phone, the three options can replace the original lockscreen and looks like the original lockscreen except Lock 2.0.
To restart, restart to recovery, turn off etc options I bought reboot control widget excellent app.
To turn on your phone you have to do the charger and battery trick.
Hopeful this info helps you.

Most of the lockscreen apps are to replace stock lockscreen with an alternation, if you want to use OS's stock lockscreen with a program then find LockEnabler on the Market. Use it best with CM6 because in CM6 setting you can change the 5 seconds lock delay after the screen goes black to "immediately".
I had the same issue ..end up sending the nexus one to htc .they changed the power button replaced the screen which I never complained about in the first place...changed the entire body dang I got a brand new phone back.. its a hardware issue so i don't think it should be a problem.my nexus's button was completely beat up... one day i was installing a rom and i was pretty low on battery i had about 5% left i panicked because the power button was unresponsive so i used a knife to push it all the way and that pretty much left a very noticeable dent but thank god it did the trick..send it in if you still under warranty and even of you are not the issue is pretty popular at htc.. should take a lil over a week to get it back tho
my lap keyboard keeps messing with me but anywho regardless if you are under warranty or not they will fix it
Put me on the list for this problem, just waiting for my fedex waybill to arrive to send it out. what sucks is that this could take a week yet the place where its going is 15 min away (they don't take walk-ins unfortunately)
I have an AT&T unlocked Nexus One that I recently flashed to CM-7.0.3-N1 . I have had a problem unlocking the device with the power button both when I was running stock Gingerbread and now that I have installed CM7.
When the screen is off and my N1 is in standby, I push the power button and the screen turns on and then back off almost immediately. Sometimes there is a half second delay before the screen turns on and then off. This usually goes on 2 or 3 times until the screen will stay on and I can unlock my phone.
Has anyone seen or heard of this problem, and maybe knows of a fix? It could be hardware related, but the button definitely sends a signal to the phone and it works fine to shutdown or turn on the device from completely off. Thanks.
ummm the power button on the nexus one has an incredibly high failure rate, all over the forum here. its a design defect from the factory. that's why it has always been recommended to root the device immediately, and use trackball wake, so you avoid using the power button as much as possible. you have to send the device to HTC for repair, that's your only option...
Thanks for the information. I will have to look into repairs.
You are already running a rooted rom with track all wake. Use it. To reboot the the phone use quickboot. At this stage you really don't need the power button on your phone.

This is a problem with CM7. Most advise turning off the screen off animation if it becomes a big problem for you. Make sure you are using the newest nightly and hope for a fix. I don't know if the RC's have this problem, but I would bet it appears on the 7.0.3 release.
At first glance that seems to have helped. Thanks for the advice!
No problem.
Also you can use widget locker to lock the screen then the trackball to wake, with that and quickboot I don't even touch my power button anymore. Although your problem doesn't sound like a broken power button so in your position I would switch ROMs and see what happens.

I'm experiencing exactly this too on the latest RC. It doesn't seem to be complete button failure but it's acting like I've pressed it twice sometimes. Disabling the screen-on animation does seem to prevent it from popping back on. But it still sometimes goes on-then-off when I wake it with the power button. So now I'm using trackball wake too.
As others have mentioned, this does not sound like a powerbutton issue, because the powerbutton still turns on the screen. The problem is that the screen turns off immediately after it turns on.
When you flashed 7.0.3, did you come from a previous CM verison? From stock? My first suggestion would probably be to wipe the /system partition (in CWM, it is under mounts and storage -- with Amon_RA, you need to find a flashable zip to do it) and reinstall CM and gapps. This will not cause any data loss. Sometimes, if you install a new ROM over an old one, the upgrade script in CM can get confused and carry over files that aren't supposed to be carried over. The system wipe fixes that.
I've been using this RC since it came out in late June. Only this week did it start flipping out on me.

It still can't hurt anything to do a system wipe, just in case something got screwed up (these things can be so temperamental at times). And, like I said, you won't lose any of your data.

I'm currently using S2E for apps2ext and some data2ext. How would a system wipe and reinstall interact with that? I'm a bit nervous on that front.
A system wipe shouldn't change any of that. It is one benefit of using S2E as it is a standard app that is stored in the /data partition without any changes to the /system partition.
Anyway, to be safe, it is a good idea to do a nandroid backup anytime you are doing something that involves the majority of the features in recovery.
It's a hardware problem for me. Failed completely as of today.

CM7 7.1.0
My power button seems to be in the process of completely failing. The new CM7 update to 7.1.0 has made it possible for me to lock the screen without using the power button using the "Notification power widget" -> "Go to sleep". Now the only times I have to use the power button are to shut the phone down or wake it up, which seems to be easier when the phone is plugged in to a wall charger. Are there any simple apps for shutting the phone down and maybe waking it up at a set time?
The only reliable trick I found to turn it back on was to plug into the wall and take the battery out/in a few times till it vibrated.
I ended up getting a replacement phone and then I sent the Nexus to HTC. They quoted a $55 repair cost off warranty which my credit card insurance would've covered, but when I asked for an invoice they offered to just waive the charges. Finally over a month later it came back fixed.
The app Easy Reboot can shut the phone down.
Sent from my Nook Color!
I also use an app called Lock Screen, which just locks the screen. I have it stored in my dock, because I don't like the space being used in the notification widget.
CM7 has an option for one of the items in the notification tray widget to be a lock screen button.

THANK YOU!!!! This has been driving me crazy. Turning off the screen-off animations did nothing, but turning off the screen-on animation seems to have fixed the issue. My power button is toast (my new power button ribbon cable just arrived... time for surgery), and I've been using the trackball to wake my phone. Before the power button died, it did the same thing. I'm using CM7.2. I installed it after rooting and went straight to cm7.2 from stock, so obviously the cyanogemnod crew haven't fixed the issue since 7.0.3 when this thread started.
So, I was yesterday using my phone and everything was OK. This day, I charged my phone because it was dead and couple mins later I turned it on. I unlocked it, everything looked OK, but I discovered some weird things. My recent apps and home buttons aren't working. When I press recent apps button it lits up but it doesn't do anything. Back button works. Then I saw that there are no notifications in the status bar(I have Kaspersky antivirus so there had to be its notification). And then when I swiped down to check notifications, I tried pressing settings, date and show more buttons, they didn't work either. I pressed power button to restart and in that box airplane and emergency modes buttons are not there. Plus, when I close my S View thing, there's no ...(more) and camera buttons.
Yesterday, I was looking at activities(using Nova launcher and adding a widget for activity) and tried couple, so I think I made something there bad.
My phone is G800F running Stock 4.4.2 without root. No viruses on my device.

This question is solved by myself.
I solved it!
What I did was I went to the Nova Launcher settings and then I changed default launcher to Touchwiz. After it turned on, I got everything that wasn't working now working!
