[Q] Phone only boots into recovery because of home button! - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Last night i i wet my phone and since then the home button seems to be stuck or fryed or idk. it only boots into recovery and when i try to use the home button (ex. try to power off via recovery and press home to confirm, flash a rom press homee to confirm), it doesnt do anything. so now im stuck in recovery trying to figure out what i can do? any ideas? is there anything i can do in adb to get it to boot properly?

OK, that should work: You need a fastboot enabled spl (death/hard/eng) for that, and a kernel boot.img, ideally the one from the rom you are using (it is inside the zip archieve, just extract it).
Boot -> Recovery (automatically...)
adb shell reboot bootloader
fastboot boot boot.img
Well, your homebutton will still be screwed, but at least it should boot if the system is still ok.

Well I went into adb and started punching in commands. Reboot android did the trick. I think I may do as u say tho just in case my phone dies for some reason. Appreciate it

Well I still have the home button problem but now I'm stuck again.....I want to flash the new cy rc3 but don't know how to do it. I can't press home to confirm the wipes and the flashing....I think saw a post somewhere a while back about flashing through adb but can't find it no more. Anybody have any ideas or know how?

Have you flashed the SPL?? If so some of the SPLs actually wipe out the phone so it's left "romless" Use an SD card reader to put a ROM on the then flash again....
But after reading your post again it seems like you cant get to recovery. If that's the case then the only thing that we can do is use fastboot to get the recovery img back. When you get to your SPL is it the Rainbow screen or is it androids skateboarding? If it's the Rainbow screen you may have hit a massive roadblock. If it's the skateboarding you're in luck. Now you do have to have ADB/Fastboot configured on your PC (Click Here to find out how)put a recovery image (named recovery.img) in the C:\[whatever you extracted the ADB stuff to]\tools and then using Command Prompt:
Code:
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
What this does is erase your current recovery and then reloads your new recovery. If you continue to have issues you could always go back to stock, reroot and see if you're running into the same problems. (This part I think is easier)

Load of Problems Tonight..Help Please

Ok well I downloaded a 1.6 update and flashed it to my G1 from the Android Dev website off a link I found. It turned my phone into a 'Dev Phone 1' and just seemed to add the new market. Well I decided to go with it and through my day I started to have my first problem. When my phone was locked and I pressed the menu key with the *keyboard slide in* they keys would light up but the screen would stay off. I had to lock the phone back up and slide the keyboard open then press menu to see what I was doing.
I decided to just flash back another ROM i had on the card, and I noticed the 1.4 recovery was gone and it was back to stock looking. Well I got home and none of the ROMS would flash, from early customs to newest. It just aborted after 'verifying'. So I decided to try the Unroot my phone thing to just start all over. After putting the .nbh file on the sdcard and booting into camera/power It just wouldnt load up. I dont know what to do..
Also they phone will not boot up into regular or recovery mode with the screen on unless the keyboard is open
If you have root cant you just download the terminal emulator and reflash cyans 1.4 recovery.
^^Im not sure how to do that exactly
do you have ADB installed on your pc?
Yup I have it on my computer
I would suggest getting Amon_RA's recovery image. It is nearly the same as Cyanogens recovery, only with more options. You can get it here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566669
turn phone off
connect usb cable to pc
turn phone on with Menu+Power to boot into fastboot
load your cmd window up and navigate to your adb directory
(you can make sure its ready by typing fastboot devices. this should list your phone)
from there type the following
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-dream-v1.2.2.img
Then reboot your phone into recovery Home+Power to make sure it took. If it does not take, I don't know what to tell you.

Stuck @ Fastboot

Hey guys, sorry for a new post. I did a search and wasn't totally sure about what i found so i figured i'd start a new post and get some help.
I bought a nexus off a guy for cheap but it was stuck at the fast boot (?) screen
image
the trackball doesnt work so i cant select anything. the only thing i can do is pull the battery out to shut it down. what can i do to fix this phone? I have no idea what to do to an android. I switched yesterday from wm6.5 so you're going to have to explain everything.
thank you!
You search the forums. That's what you do.
Trackball might be effed up. Replace that
That phone is unlocked
You get to that screen by holding down the trackball when you press power. (Like the above poster said)
Make sure the volume buttons or the trackball are not stuck in a pressed state.
I thought to navigate that screen you use the volume button and power button to select. Trackball doesn't work in that menu

thanks for the helpful comments guys. :]
i meant to also add that none of the buttons work either, volume or power button. i tried to flash amonra's recovery thru cmd prompt but i couldnt do much after that. i couldnt get into the adb prompt. it says the device isnt found, although fastboot promt found the device fine. anyway so after i flash the amonra recovery img i can't get into recovery mode. holding the power and vol down button gets me to the hboot (i believe it is?) but again, i cant navigate the menu with any buttons to put it into recovery mode so i'm pretty much stuck here.
and just to clarify, I have done a few searches as i've said and I didnt feel sure enough that the problems mentioned were my problem so that is why I'm asking for help here.
You should not go to any forum and feel bad for posting or have to say over and over that you did a search. There are many people that can do better and some will show up, hopefully with answers that are not painful to someone who has purchased a new phone... cheap. I would flash amon ra which you can do adb without using any of the phone hardware buttons and then see where you are at. There are many posts on installing amon ra and the instructions are also in the offical thread. With any luck you just have a hosed recovery and the flash will get you rolling.
Can you not navigate the fastboot/hboot screen with the volume buttons? If not then you're gonna run into serious problems. Make sure both the volume buttons and trackball are clear. You can clean the trackball by pressing it in with a piece of cloth and pushing it in different directions while pressed in, this should clear most of the junk on it.
You can also clean the volume buttons and power button a little better by removing the battery cover. Good luck bud.
trackball+power -> fastboot mode.
volume+power -> recovery mode. if you see androids on skates you have the stock recovery.
trackball+volume+power held = reboot
Recovery, boot etc can be flashed from fastboot only.
just to clarify, the first thing that pops up when i press just the power button is the fastboot. i dont have to press anything else, just power.
i flashed amonra recovery img while i was on fastboot mode from my computer (cmd i used was fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-nexus-v1.7.0.1.img) and it was successful.
Then i tried to put it into recovery mode w the command adb shell reboot recovery. It said that the device wasn't connected.
when i input the cmd fastboot devices i see my device connected, but when i input adb devices it says its not connected.
So i figured I'd put it into recovery mode on my phone by pressing volume+power. I get to the hboot screen with the three androids on skateboards (i realize the screen looks the same as fastboot but the selectable options here are different) but the volume buttons, trackball, power buttons don't work so i can't select "recovery" on the phone.
so this is where i'm stuck
It sounds like you have a stuck or f..d up trackball.
P_
I have the same problem has anyone figured out a solution?

You cannot use ADB commands when you are in the bootloader (i.e., fastboot) screen. You need to be booted into the ROM or into the recovery for those commands to work.
What I find difficult to understand is how come your volume buttons work to boot into the bootloader, but don't work once you are there?
Try flashing each partition from a stock FRG33 ROM (from here). Unzip the files, and flash the boot, system and data images using fastboot (e.g., fastboot flash system system.img) and then try to reboot normally.

[CLOSED] Stuck in bootloop - Cant load a recovery

Hello,
I tried to flash Slim ROM on my TMo HTC One and I accidentally soft-bricked it.
First, I unlocked the bootloader, put the zip folder in storage and then went straight for flashing a ROM.
Since then, I am stuck in a bootloop even when I try to run recovery - I flashed TWRP.
Can anoyone help?

yes, this is pretty simple:
You can boot into your bootloader by pressing the power button for a long time and if the display turns off, press the volume down button and hope you jump into your bootloader.. try this out until you manage to get into your bootloader. If this doesn't work, you should hold your phone below a bright light so the sensor recognizes it.. then play around with your power button and volume buttons and you should be able to boot into your bootloader. Then connect your phone to the PC and use this fastbootcommand after you navigated to fastboot on your phone:
Code:
fastboot erase chache
Now you should be able to boot into your recovery..
If it helped, hit the thanksbutton or ask other questions by quoting my post so I get notified and I can answer
If you managed to enter the recovery, say it, I write further instructions... Because if I write it now and the steps above didn't work... I wrote it for no reason and yeah... just say it

thank you for your quick response, unfortunately, after erasing cache before and I still got stuck in bootloop (didnt work this time either).
Entering Recovery... appears on top of a screen and nothing happens for a long time before the phone reboots itself

I would simply reflash recovery (maybe a different one) to make sure it's not the file you have

ok.. in that case we have to do some other stuff..
Download the TWRP recovery, it's know to work better than CWM at it's current state, you can download the file for your HTC One here:
http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7 (credits to: http://teamw.in/ thanks for your awesome work!)
Then when you are in the fastboot mode, use this command:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery "C:\pathToYourRecovery\recoveryname.img"
Then boot into recovery... and if this doesn't work too, try this command:
Code:
fastboot boot "C:\pathToYourRecovery\recoveryname.img"
If you were able to get into the recovery, or if you were not able, pls answer
!! :good: It worked and I got successfully booted the recovery, I think I was flashing a wrong version of twrp before

[SOLVED][Help] Installing stock recovery causing problems

Hi,
I'm very new to rooting and such and only followed guides a read forum posts to get to where I am now.
My phone is rooted with stock ROM and SU, the bootloader is unlocked but no S-OFF (don't think it's possible on the mini 2 yet anyway). The new OTA update last night installed when I got home and charged my phone, then the phone just shut off and every time I tried to boot it would go straight into TWRP without showing splash screen or bootloader (even when holding power and the volume down button). When it's in this state the touch screen doesn't work and the power button only locks the phone. Holding power + vol down in this state doesn't do anything.
I have to let the power drain completely to get the phone to boot back up but it immediately boots back into recovery and then I can use ADB to force the bootloader to appear, but when I flashed the stock recovery that I found in these boards, it messes up the screen and all it shows is static with some artifacts. I have to let the power drain again to get back into the bootloader, and from the bootloader I can get the android OS to boot but I'd like to fix this completely.
I guess I should also mention that even after flashing the stock recovery the phone will still boot back into TWRP after I let the power drain so I think that means that the stock recovery isn't taking?
The twrp problem you mentioned is known, hope it'll be fixed soon. Are you sure you typed the right command to flash stock recovery? Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img?
If you get stuck, the combination is power button and volume up, not volume down...

Unfortunately I was using the wrong ADB command, I was typing "fastboot boot recovery.img". This seems to have fixed the problem so far but I have yet to try rewriting TWRP back to the phone and I probably won't until theres a fix or unless I need to.
Thank you for your help.

I had the same problem. It happens when I reboot with my phone when charging.
You can reboot your phone by holding vol up+power button.
